Kristina Blackthorne is a trophy wife, and she is spoiled. No doubt about it. Jack, her wealthy husband, gives her everything she wants - an unlimited shopping budget, an exclusive membership at the finest country club in town, and a new Porsche. Kristina tries to help him get over his first wife by learning to play the classical music that was her life, but it’s a lot harder than she expected. She wants to give up, but an unpleasant argument with Jack leaves him ready to divorce her. Now she’s stuck with a very expensive piano, a no-nonsense teacher who’s already spanked her with a hairbrush, and a husband returning to the dominant life she never knew he had. Can she learn quickly enough to escape punishment? Or does she enjoy the sexual arousal it provokes too much to behave herself? This full-length novel, the first in the Spanked Princesses series, is available for a short time at an introductory price. Please note that the story includes mature situations, spanking, and delicious lovemaking.
I have to admit, I went into this story with a bit of trepidation. I am not a huge fan of Domestic Discipline. It comes off to me as far to humiliating at times. Or maybe, as a submissive, I feel that I need it in my life, and it is a hard pill to swallow, that something that intense is something I crave. Either way, I was hunting for something with great spanking in it, and I grabbed this title off my review list. I let it hang back a bit. I hate not liking a story for reasons that are personal, so I almost, I repeat, almost passed this book off.
I have to say that I am so glad that I didn’t! Once I started this story, I couldn’t stop. I read well into the wee hours of the morning till I finished the story, because it was one of those stories that I just had to know how it all turned out. Or maybe at certain points, I really needed it to turn out well! I needed answers, and I was longing to get them. The author did a great job about not giving away too much, and allowing the storyline to take place through the lead female’s eyes. There were slight shifts in POV to the male lead, which we needed. I needed to know how he was feeling. However, at a certain point, the author gave it all over to Kristina. I empathized with her so much, that I found myself crying many times in this story. I did get the feeling that she was written overly childish, but if I was dressed and told I had all the rights of a thirteen year old, I have this pressing feeling that I would behave very similar to Kristina.
I had trouble at times with some of the spanking scenes. But as the scene progressed, feeling the reaction of the Heroine, and then noticing my own reaction to the scene, I realized it wasn’t hitting triggers, but it was hitting curiosity. The woman was raised from the age of thirteen to be self centered. It wasn’t a choice, and I was wondering how Jack, as a experienced Dom, totally thought his wife was vanilla, and moaned to his best friend about it nightly. Yet, Kristina was so submissive I related to her on every need, and urge she had. The spanking scenes were what I like to call, impact play, or heavy spanking. It was bordering on masochistic, so if you are faint at heart, don’t read this. I, however, loved every scene I knew she was getting spanked in.
The story flowed and I read each word riveted to the page. I found myself wanting more at the end. I do think the author could have given a longer HEA. It was all explained, and sorted in the last few percents (I have a kindle) and I would have liked Jack to come forward sooner, and give her the run down. It was a great ending, that made me suck in my breath and if I was Jack’s submissive I would have earned a new punishment with some more pouting, while being aroused at how controlled he was through the whole thing. He had a vulnerability that slowly evolved into the Dom he was meant to be at the end. I knew that Kristina was a sub, because I am a sub, and I felt everything that she felt. Confusion and arousal clashed to create a very titillating read.
This book did have some grammar issues for me, but I can over look grammar any day for a great story!
Kristina, a young trophy wife of a much older wealthy man, is aware she doesn’t measure up in her husband’s eyes. Because his late wife was accomplished pianist – something that seemed to please Jack – she tells him she wants to learn to play. He buys her a very expensive grand piano and hires the best instructors.
But while Kristina loves her husband and wants to please him, she doesn’t really want to learn to play – at least not enough to invest the time it would require. So she doesn’t pay attention, doesn’t practice and behaves rudely to her piano teachers who become frustrated and quit.
On the brink of divorce over it, and after soliciting advice from her young trophy wife friends, she approaches Jack and tells she’ll hand over complete control to him, do anything he wants, including submitting to a spanking. She even signs a consent form. What she doesn’t know is that Jack is a Dominant who has been itching to make her his submissive, a relationship he had with his late wife. And thus the piano lessons resume, but with a whole new set of circumstances. Rather than discipline him herself – Jack gives the instructors (and the household staff) the go-head to “spank” her if she doesn’t toe the line.
Writing this review is difficult. I give it four stars based on how it compares with other novels of a similar genre. The story is solid, the writing is decent (there’s a couple of name glitches but as an author I understand how that happens!), and the Kristina character is well-developed and surprisingly sympathetic. The psychological insight into her character as she changes from a spoiled, pampered seemingly vanilla young woman into an obedient “submissive” is especially well done. The reader can see the change occur and fully understand how and why.
It feels very real. Too real. Which is probably why it made me uncomfortable. I did not read the reviews, but bought it based on the blurb, which gave me the impression that it was domestic discipline story. It’s not. It’s actually a bdsm book, with emphasis on sadomasochism. Kristina is more than a submissive, she’s masochist and her teachers are sadists. She is not spanked or disciplined, but beaten – and she, as a masochist, not only consents, but craves the beatings.
And although her husband Jack is a self-described Dominant who tells Kristina’s teachers to discipline her, I found his behavior to be subservient and submissive to his Fem Domme friends, who seemed to be much more in control and much more Dominant.
Readers of hardcore bdsm will probably find Spanked Princesses: The Pianist enjoyable read. It was too extreme for my comfort.
Jack, a self-proclaimed Dom, had married the love of his life. She was a classic pianist and his dedicated submissive - right up until the day she died. Jack soon found a new wife, but couldn't bring himself to expose her to his old lifestyle. So, he spoiled her.
Kristina does pretty much anything she wants. She loves her husband and knows that he misses his first wife. To help fill the void, she decides to learn piano for him. But, after he buys the piano and pays for the lessons, she decides it is just too much work and quits. This is quite possibly the last straw for Jack. Sensing his withdrawal, Kristina offers to let him spank her for her misdeeds. Jack decides this was the push he needed to rediscover his inner Dom and instead of spanking her, he presents her with a submissive contract.
This story would have been more appealing had I realized it was completely fantasy fiction from the start. When Jack decided that his wife needed to be trained as a submissive, he employed the help of his housing staff. He never spanked Kristina, but had the maid, cook, and piano teacher do it for him. These punishments were often done in front of others, to Kristina's chagrin.
I certainly enjoy a fantasy spanking book every now and again. It's refreshing to see in print the crazy little ideas that occupy the average spankophile's mind that can't easily be implemented in real life. But the jump from realistic to fantasy needs to be a smooth one. "The Pianist" was rather disjointed and did not offer a transition from "spoiled wife" to "submissive under contract." Additionally, there were considerable flaws in the book that should have been picked up while editing. For example, the main character's name changes from Kristina to Katrina throughout the whole book without explanation. In my opinion, "The Pianist" is a pretty good story and could be the start of a decent book with additional content and proper editing. As is, however, it missed the mark.
Erika Moran’s Spanked Princesses: The Pianist was an enjoyable read for me. I was immediately drawn into the story and made a strong connection with the heroine, Kristina. Kristina is spoiled and was raised to be a gold-digger, but despite this she really loves her older husband, Jack, and would do anything to please him. Kristina decides to learn to play the piano because she knows how much Jack loved to listen to his belated wife, Jan, play piano. Talk about difficult shoes to fill, and Kristina doesn’t realize what a huge commitment she’s made – or how angry Jack would become if she slacked off or treated her piano teachers rudely. Moran did an excellent job of portraying the hurt feelings between the couple, especially the desperation Kristina feels as she realizes she must take a huge step and ask Jack to punish her. Despite her eagerness to submit, he decides she would most benefit from receiving her punishments from a woman. Kristina agrees and soon finds herself at the mercy of a stern piano teacher and the live-in servants. Over the period of a few months, Kristina undergoes an enormous personal transformation. To make a long story short, she becomes a better person and gets in touch with her submissive side at the same time. Even though I didn’t connect with Jack as well as I connected with Kristina, he was still a likeable hero and Dom, and I couldn’t wait for the moment when he finally took Kristina’s discipline into his own hands. There was a strong build up to the ending, which was hot and sweet. I recommend this novel to anyone who likes a strong story with elements of bdsm and lots of F/F and eventually M/F spanking scenes.

I went into The Pianist with a bit of trepidation because I don't understand the psychology behind domestic discipline. In the books I’ve read with domestic discipline in them, the process seems far too humiliating. But never the less, the blurb caught my eye and I agreed to read it. I was certainly surprised by the plot which leaned a bit more towards bdsm. Once I started this story, I couldn’t stop. With the story evolving naturally, readers will be compelled to flip page after page to unravel the mystery that is Kristina. For my complete review, go to: http://guiltyindulgencebookclub.blogs....
Ms. Moran is a powerful writer whose use of dialogue to drive the story is a thing of beauty. One of the most refreshing things about this book is it use of ‘common language’; it reads the way we speak. That makes it an enjoyable and easy read for almost everyone. At the same time, the author introduces readers to the often misunderstood world of dom/sub and discipline in a compassionate and realistic manner. This book is much more than it appears on the surface with themes of love and loss, acceptance and rejection, and self-discovery. It is a journey into the complex nature of humanity itself.
The story itself is solid with a consistent flow. The ending was a bit abrupt, as if just when the couple find their footing, it ends. Readers will be happy with the outcome though Kristina, I’m sure, couldn’t sit for a few days afterwards. This is an intense story – not for the light of heart – and one that overflowed with charged emotion. For my full review, go to: http://guiltyindulgencebookclub.blogs...
I thought this story was going to be more about a submissive's "awakening" as a person and as a lover. It was more of a BDSM story. Which is ok for some but I felt the piano teacher was cruel.
