Sometimes I see a book tweeted about, or mentioned somewhere, and on the spur of the moment I’ll buy it. Randomly, I’ll neglect my careful pile of TBR ARCs that I’m supposed to be reading, deviate from my schedule and try something completely left wing. Sometimes this turns out really great. Sometimes it doesn’t.
This was one of those times where it doesn’t. Ever been in a dream that you kind of liked, though couldn’t help but notice that it made absolutely no sense? If you don’t, ReVamped is a great way to experience the sensation for yourself. A young, president’s daughter is off on her first assignment! To unite a ragtag group of weirdo vamps and turn them into a team! For reasons…
Unfortunately, things go awry when mysterious forces work to attempt to kidnap her! For reasons…
Luckily, there is a super hot guy who is mysterious, sexy, there to protect her and somehow knows something about her! For reasons…
ReVamped was kind of like if you took The Vampire Diaries and Mighty Ducks and created some kind of weird baby.
There has got to be a fanfic of this somewhere…
It had the same kind of small-world,plot twists where everyone is related/knows each other somehow. Drama! So much drama! And the ragtag group was, on one hand, extremely formulaic and, on the other, probably the best thing about this novel. They were funny, interesting characters – eventually. Unfortunately, getting them there required the smoothest road of annoying blandness I’ve ever come across.
Indeed, the beginning and ending of this story are its weakest links. The very beginning because the author hasn’t finessed the balance of info dumping and narrative commencement. Thus the beginning was like an alarmingly boring series on infomercials where I was left wondering if I could just skip it or flip to another channel.
“How’s it going, Dad?” I asked.
*Insert two paragraph explanation on protagonist’s relationship to father.
“Swell, daughter, I’m off to see the president tomorrow!”
*Insert three paragraph explanation on how her father is the president of vampires and how that came about.
“Oh, wonderful! Hey can I totes head out of here on a mission? I’m heaps bored.”
*Insert two paragraphs of the protagonist wallowing over her caged childhood and giving her entire back story.
“Sure.”
*Insert characters extreme excitement and mental checklist of everything she’s going to do*
It was so clunky and awkward that I found myself cringing, this was proceeded by the most inane, colourless writing, though that did improve. It read a lot like a child’s fanfiction, which was interesting as the writing did pick up a good deal more later in the story.
The romance with the lead character was absolutely bland. It seemed there was more focus on making him as mysterious and surly as possible to shoehorn him into a popular archetype than to actually develop him as a character, or the relationship in any meaningful way. I felt like I slipped on a banana and they were in love.
Throw in some fiendish, mustache-twirling villains, a completely ridiculous ending which stretched even my ability to suspend my disbelief and you end up with ReVamped. Something that seemed to realize how campy and silly it was, but ultimately, never managed to pack in the fun, vitality and necessary introspection to really pull off the effect.
Over all, I cautiously advise reading the free sample before purchasing this one!
Ada Adams bring us a new and fresh look into the lives of vampires, it is refreshing, funny at times and well written. The words flowed easily, character descriptions were excellent, and you got to know each character well. All in all I would say this was an excellent read.
We are introduced to Dawn; she is the daughter of the President of the Vampires. In this novel Vampires are out and almost treated like we treat movie stars today. They are sought after, respected and envied by most, but of course there are some people who don’t feel the same way. Dawn is a Born vampire; Born vampires are special and have greater powers, being that both her parents are vampires. Dawn has trained her whole life and is a strong, independent young woman.
Dawn’s father sends her to a small town called Angel Creek to train a group of vampires who are going to become the town’s protectors. Dawn is so happy that her father finally trusts her enough to send her out on a mission and can’t wait to begin training. When Dawn arrives in town she gathers the vampires and realizes she is going to have to work very hard to get this group trained.
Here we are introduced to some new characters and all I will say is it almost appears that Dawn’s new group would fall under the category of the misfit vampires. Of course nothing goes smoothly for Dawn, a human is kidnapped, Dawn herself is almost taken and she realizes there is more going on in this small town of Angel Creek then appeared.
Dawn and her group of trainee’s work together to protect the town and find the girl and of course keep themselves safe at the same time. There is also some romance lurking in this story for Dawn we meet Ethan who is human and Sebastian who is a vampire with many secrets. Both of course are extremely good looking and Dawn who has never even been kissed doesn’t always know how to act around these two.
ReVamped is a great addition to the YA Paranormal genre, I have rated it a 4 out 5 and would recommend this novel to anyone who enjoys reading about vampires. Ada Adam has brought us a new and fresh series for us to follow and I cannot wait to read the next book in this series.
Vampire books are usually bloody and dark and nightmare-inducing. But ReVamped focuses more on the fun side of vampires, which is one reason why I adored it so much!
ReVamped takes place in a world where vampires coexist peacefully together with humans, who idolize vampires rather than fear them. There are TV shows like Next Vamp Idol and Transylvania Shore, as well as drinks like Blood Cola. They even have a Scarlet House for a vampire president next to the human one.
Dawn was so easy to love! As the Born vampire daughter of the Vampire President, she was raised and trained in near-isolation within the Scarlet House. While her training made her more kick-butt than most other vampires, her isolation made her adorably and realistically awkward around some — especially boys. She was far from shy and still had a snarky trademark, but Dawn didn't always know how to react to a boy's affection, which was so endearing! ♥
Other characters, like sweet Ethan, brooding Sebastian, and the vampire misfits who Dawn was sent to whip up into shape, will put a smile on your face as well. My only wish is that we could've gotten to know the characters a bit better — dove beneath the polished surface more — but I guess there's always room for more development in future installments.
With a fantastic cast of characters, a fun yet mysterious storyline, and vampires you'll wish lived in your world, ReVamped is a refreshing new take on the supernatural creatures we all know and love! I could never stop smiling at the vampire lore Ada Adams created. It was creative, fun, original, AWESOME. Definitely a novel you'll finish in one sitting!
BUY or BORROW?: It's only 99 cents as an e-book right now — that's a total steal right there! You should definitely grab this book while you have the chance. It's more than just a pretty cover! :)
ReVamped by Ada Adams is not your typical vampire story. Ada Adams took the idea of vampires and built her own story around it with added fun and flare that is completely engrossing and highly entertaining. I fell completely head over heels in love with this book from the moment I read it.
The world that Ada has built up in ReVamped is originally unique, downright amazing and possibly even better than the world we live in now. In ReVamped, vampires live peacefully side by side with humans. Not only do they live together with minimal problems, but the humans absolutely adore the vampires to the extent where they sell products like Blood Cola, Blood Beer, Blood Vodka and various bloody snacks. Even more so, vampires are sought to become celebrities in Hollywood. I especially enjoyed the fact that there is a separate U.S. Vampire President with their own house, called Scarlet House. I also loved learning the differences between vampires: the Made and the Born, along with the different aspects of the way Ada made her vampires that I found to be creative and well thought out.
The main character Dawn, is a Born vampire and one fierce warrior. The best fighter at that, according to the Vampire President, who is her father. She has been sheltered within the Scarlet House always training and learning new things. Finally, Dawn’s father gives her a simple mission to go to Angel Creek to train four vampires to become the small town’s new guardians. At first, the mission seems simple enough, until it becomes obvious someone is hunting Dawn. I must say that I love Dawn. She’s got this fire personality and she really kicks butt. I was able to connect and relate to her almost instantly. She’s strong and loyal. She’s a good friend and wonderful person all the way. She kind and has a big heart. I adored her from the moment she appeared on page. To me, Dawn was more human than the other characters in the book, including the humans themselves. I really loved her spunk, her confidence and this set determination that she had throughout the whole book.
The other characters are developed very well. Each have their own separate personalities and voices. They were all distinguishable from one another and I enjoyed getting to know each and every one of them. I love how well rounded the characters were. None of them blended and each were very memorable. I thought it was brilliant of Ada to take a group of seven, make them all different from one another, but still keep them working together as an incredible dynamic. I loved the transformation of the group and it left me in awe to see how much they changed, improved, and cared for one another by the end. I do hope to learn more about Ethan and Sebastian and their relationship with Dawn in the upcoming books. I can’t get enough of these characters.
The overall pacing to ReVamped was just right. No parts seemed too slow or too fast and I was easily lost into the world that Ada created. I enjoyed everything within this book and had no problem visualizing the story in my mind. It was easy to read and understand, it’s no wonder I devoured this book in one sitting. It’s just too good to put down, too irresistible to resist.
What I love most about ReVamped was all the emotions and feelings the book was able to evoke from me along with the surprises it brought. I found myself smiling and laughing at many parts and I even cried at this very intense scene. The build-up to the ending was crazy good and I was so thrilled from all the suspense. The twists and turns and epic revelations were shocking that completely took me off guard. I wasn’t expecting a lot of those things to happen and I was blown-away by those moments.
All in all, ReVamped is wonderfully delightful read that will grab your attention from the start, keep you intrigued, and have you wishing there was more at the end. I can’t wait for the next book and whatever Ada Adams has in store for these characters I ended up loving so much.
5 out of 5 stars

SUMMARY (50 word or less)
Well, I’m not sure how I feel about this book. I’m a little confused with the angle for it. The writing wasn’t bad, but I didn’t know if this was a parody or if this was suppose to be a humorous book. I guess you could say I’m speechless.

After reading the synopsis on this book I was pretty excited to start it. It sounded right up my alley. Vampires, action, romance, conspiracies.
Yep, that has me written all over it. If I had any doubt after reading the synopsis that this was going to be the book for me, the cover alone would have lured me right in. It is gorgeous and begs for you to pick it up and give it a try.
This is not your typical YA vampire book. Not at all. This is something different and fresh and new. Completely original. No copycatting here going on.
Adam's has managed to create a fresh new look into the world of vampires with a heroine that knows how to kick butt and still have fun while doing it. All the while making the world she created feel very believable and real.
There were a great cast of characters in this story, all very loveable and different and quirky in their own way. The underlying mystery was excellent and kept me guessing and the slight romance to it kept me turning the pages wanting more.
Over all this promises to be a very fun series and I truly am looking forward to the next book and can't wait for more.
Adam's is a talented author and I know I will be watching to see what she comes up with next. She has a new fan in me and I can't wait to read more from her. I look forward to watching her work progress and grow and just keep getting better and better.
Brilliantly plotted, inventive, and outrageously fun to read, ReVamped is a book that rocked my socks off, made me shiver with excitement, and sent me into dangerous fits of laughter. It's deliciously geeky, potent, beautifully imagined, emotionally engaging, and incredibly (and I mean INCREDIBLY) compelling. This is not your usual sucky vampire story. This is easily one of the most original, totally badass takes on the vampire world ever!
Dawn is a vampire, and not just any vampire but a Born. She's the daughter of the US Vampire President, living in the Scarlet House (it's like the White House, only for the Vampire President and his family), and she's highly skilled in martial arts and combat tactics. On top of that, she's a trainer, responsible for teaching youngsters how to fight and defend themselves. The world is no longer afraid of vampires. Quite the opposite, ever since they announced their presence to the public, they've become more loved and more popular than human celebrities ever were. The two races coexist peacefully. There are certain laws and rules that both parties have to follow (like "no snacking on humans" and "no turning humans into vampires"). When rebel groups of vampires start popping up in various areas of the country, and the human population is suddenly in danger, Dawn's father sends her on a special mission to Angel Creek. She is to gather a group of vampires living there and train them to become guardians. The only problem is... those vampires are absolutely and utterly clueless and they suck at being vamps! Dawn not only has to train them in martial arts, but she basically has to teach them how to be proper vampires.. she has to revamp them. Like that's not enough, Dawn soon discovers that there is way more going on in the small town of Angel Creek than what everyone originally assumed, she stumbles upon an evil plot to take over the world (why start small? go big or go home!) and she finds herself right in the middle of a dangerous intrigue.
I loved everything about this book, really. The plotting was skilful and thorough, down to the very last detail. The world building and the premise were simply masterful, I loved how original a world Ada created. I can't rave enough about the fascinating society, complete with all the social structures and politics. It was cool, unique and completely believable (despite its paranormal aspects). The characters were just awesome. Dawn was down-to-earth, kick-ass, smart, smoking hot and just sooooo sweet! She was also very strong, brave and a great leader. I loved her sense of humor and occasional sassiness. Both Sebastian and Ethan were great love interests. Obviously, I loved Sebastian more - he's gorgeousness impersonated, and I totally dig his "I'm so mysterious, baby, you don't even begin to comprehend it" act. He also seemed wise, experienced (hey! no dirty thoughts there!) and emotionally mature, though slightly damaged by his tragic past. A very complex and intriguing character, indeed. The villains were exceptionally fleshed-out, too, and I certainly appreciated the back story behind their evil plottings - it's a nice change to see bad guys that are not just evil for the sake of being evil, but their nasty behaviour (while it's still not acceptable) is somewhat motivated by the past events and experiences.
While it's a greatly entertaining and fun story, ReVamped is also so much more than just that. There's some family drama involved, social issues weaved into the plot, convincing romance (no insta-love, no "I love you to death" after 10 pages, just the beginning of something that could potentially turn into a serious relationship), ingeniously plotted intrigue, tension, and a whole lot of unexpected developments. It's an unputdownable book, and one that you'll simply love and remember for ever. I quickly grew attached to all the characters and really enjoyed observing the dynamics of their relationships. Ada Adams' writing style is unexpectedly amazing (I say unexpectedly because it is, after all, her debut novel), and I was amazed how interesting and deep a story she created.
All in all, ReVamped is an excellent YA debut novel, and one that I will be coming back to time and time again. I said that before and I'll say it again: to me, Ada Adams is Rusty Fischer on high heels. If you liked Fischer's Vamplayers or/and Zombies Don't Cry, you will fall head over heels for ReVamped. If you like your books entertaining, action-packed, sassy, intelligent and with a healthy dose of humour - this should be your next read. Trust me, you absolutely can't afford to miss it!
Sent to the small town of Angel Creek to train four new vampires to become guardians of the town, Dawn thinks she has been given a pretty easy assignment. Her assignment, however, turns out to be not so simple when she meets her trainees, and the longer Dawn is in Angel Creek, the more she realizes she is in for more than she bargained for.
Revamped gives us a different take on vampires from the usual. I enjoyed the way they were portrayed in this book and loved the humor throughout the story. The descriptiveness of the story was wonderful and imaginative, and the characters were well written. The author did an excellent job of creating her characters and getting inside their heads.
Dawn was a great character and easy to connect with. The only thing I really did not like about her is that I found her character to be inconsistent at times. She was trained to be this great warrior, the greatest in fact, but at any sign of trouble she just seemed too indecisive and weak. I loved the 'misfit' vampires. The humor they brought to the book was great. I also loved Ethan and Sebastian. There was some romance sprinkled into the story, but it is not really a big part of the story.
There were some great twists to this story that you would never have imagined coming. Overall it was an enjoyable read.
If you think that this is just another vampire story you are sadly mistaken. This book was so much more. It had all you could want in a book and then some. We start out this book by meeting Dawn who is in the middle of training. We learn she is a vampire and about to be sent on a mission. We learn that she is a Born vampire which makes her special than an average vampire.
I love the way this book showed vampires out in the open and living normal lives. It was a different well deserved take on vampires than the average. We got to see the more human side to then with Dawn being no exception. As the book progresses we learn that Dawn will be heading to Angel Creek to train some vampires to be guradians for the humans in town. Angel Creek was described so well and the descriptions were written so vividly. I also loved the history between the town.
Once Dawn arrives in town she meets Ethan and everything changes. Ethan was so dreamy and great I'm not shocked that Dawn was drawn to him. Hannah is a character that was beyond words in a good way she was so cute you couldn't help but like her. Dawn finally meets the new vampires and to describe them as a group if misfits would be an understatement. It is apparent they will need alot of help to be ready to defend the town.
Dawn settles into trying to get them trained and also meets Sebastin. I have to pause to say I now have a new and his name is Sebastin. Oh where do I begin with him from his good looks to his arrogant demanor with the hidden caring side. Bravo to Ada Adams for creating this complex character. I am officially Team Sebastin.
As the story progressing we learn some startling news about Dawn that I didn't see coming. It was an amaxing twist and I don't think anyone will see it coming. Dawn is thrown for a loop and must decide how to deal with it. Dawn deals with it in her typical fashion and refuses to go down without a fight. This is another reason why I love her. She reacts without thinking first. Dawn and the vampires end up in a battle and prove that they are a force to be reckoned with. I was so glad to see them all prove themselves and learn how to take care of themselves.
Overall I loved this book and didn't want it to end. I have to read the next book in the series and can't wait for it to come out. This book had just what I like in my books romance, battles, friendships and of course a cute love triangle. The author did a great job of bringing everything together and it was written well. The book flowed well and was at a great pace. I highly recommend this to others.
There have been several good Vampire books which I really enjoyed this year. But none of them compare to ReVamped. This book really gives me hope that the Vampire genre can come back from the brink and be a great genre in Young Adult like it has the potential to be. Out of all the books I have read this year (117) ReVamped has easily taken the spot as my second favorite book this year. It is that great of a book. Ada's writing is amazing and I just honestly couldn't find any faults with this book. You have an awesome heroine that is a vampire, a group of rogue vampires with some pretty twisted campaign plans and a great romance. I would say that is a great mix of story elements.
This story is fantastic. As I mentioned above, it just has so many awesome elements. You start the story off with Dawn being at her fathers headquarters. I like how simply the story was set in motion, by her being called to her dads office after a training session. And then some things are discussed, and she heads off to Angel Creek which is where the majority of the story takes place. Her arrival at Angel Creek when she encounters Seth. This was when she was meeting all the "Guardian" recruits.. But Dawn's encounter with Seth in the very beginning was pretty hilarious to say the least. This book takes a little while to pick up, but once Viktor and his gang get involved things really get heated. With the election coming up for the next vampire President, Viktor really wants to be able to claim that spot. And he is willing to do anything to get it, I think you all will be surprised by just how far he is willing to go.
Dawn is such an amazing character, she is incredibly strong in any way you want to look at the word. And she is just such an enjoyable character to read. It is really easy to see just how badly she wanted to know about her mother, and how far she was willing to go to get the information. Even though she was afraid at times to question her father. Dawn and her father had a pretty good relationship in the early half of the book, but some things happen later on that come between that and you really hope that they will figure out a way to work things out. I can't complete this review without talking the four other guardians of Angel Creek, Brooke, Sophie, Hunter and Seth are such amazing characters in this story. They are all really funny in their own ways, and are each extremely likable. Honestly don't know what this book would be without them. There are quite a few other really awesome characters in this book, but I would be talking forever if I tried to focus on all of them so I will leave them for you to be surprised by when you read the book. And I have already talked about Viktor, which is a character that is very easy to hate.. don't think I need to go into much detail there.
Oh my, the part of the review I was looking forward to most. Which is where I talk about the ending of this book. I was completely blown away by some of the events at the end of this book. I had several moments where I had to go back and read a page, because I was questioning myself if different things actually happened. Some of the events made Dawn and the other guardians even more awesome than they were before, while others were kind of bittersweet because of things that had happened earlier on in the book. I really hated that some events played out the way they did though, even though some of them weren't so much at the ending of the book but just towards the later part of it. In the end though, I felt like everything came together nicely. And Ada was able to provide a strong ending for such a wonderful book.
I know, you're probably mad that I didn't really talk about the romance. I really liked it though, and I thin it was a great part of the book. I just wanted to let something about the book remain completely elusive, so you had something fun to look forward to. But trust me when I say that I really think you will enjoy it.
I really, really hope that you all will check out this book whenever you get a chance. If you are like me and have been on the fence with vampire books, I really think you will be impressed with ReVamped and what Ada brings to this genre. I am so happy that I gave this book a chance and I am really looking forward to being able to continue this series when ReAwakened comes out. I wish I had been able to jump right into it after finishing ReVamped, but I am positive it will be worth the wait. I highly suggest picking up a copy of this book though, I highly doubt that you will find yourself being disappointed with that choice.
"I was falling for the one guy in the world I had never expected to fall for and I was falling hard."
I really don't know what to say when thinking about this book. I had heard great things about this book but after reading so many vampire books I was completely prepared for this to be just another vampire book. I was completely surprised and ended up loving this book.
Vampire Dawn has always been trained to be her father's second-in-command. So when an important mission comes up and Dawn is sent to do it she thinks her life is finally going to begin. What she doesn't count on is her life changing forever and her life being put in grave danger. Trying to train her new vampire friends to protect the town of Angel Creek Dawn finds herself torn between two guys, Ethan, the human who is crushing hard on Dawn and the uptight mysterious vampire Sebastian who Dawn feels a strange connection to. Can she sort out her tangled feelings and protect her life?
I was really consumed by this story and ended up reading it one sitting. I couldn't put it down and was completely hooked from page one. Ada is such a fantastic author and she completely sucks you in from the prologue. Using foreshadowing to show us a glimpse of what is to come was such a fantastic way to start this book and I just couldn't stop reading and needed to know what was going to happen. This book is sweet, beautiful and exciting. I loved seeing the relationships between the characters develop and loved that the characters grew so much throughout the book.
Dawn is such a fantastic lead character and I loved her. She is just fantastic. She is strong and doesn't fear change. She thrives under pressure and she definitely isn't one of these YA characters who sits around waiting for a guy to save her. When she is in danger she takes charge of the situation and acts to help her friends. I really loved her and she is one of my favourite YA lead characters. I felt like Dawn really grew throughout this book. She started as the innocent daddy's girl who led a very sheltered life and she grew up a lot and ended up the strong-willed action girl who would stop at nothing to solve the problem and help her friends.
The guys. This is what every girl wants to hear about for the books. Well in this book there are two completely swoon-worthy guys and I fell in love with them both. Ethan is the cutest, sweetest character ever. He's so adorable and from the moment we met him in the book I was constantly going awww. BUT there was something about him that I didn't trust throughout the book and I turned out to be right but at the end I still loved him. Sebastian on the other hand... WOW! I just completely fell in lust... er... I mean Love from the first moment. I liked the book a whole lot and then we met Sebastian and I immediately loved it. He is hot, mysterious, brooding and I just loved him. The more of Sebastian that I read the more I totally loved him.
This book was completely amazing and I couldn't put it down. It's amazing in terms of the relationships and I totally loved every character in it. The thing I loved most about ReVamped is that it is fast-paced and action-packed. I was sat holding my breath waiting to find out what was going to happen. I loved every moment of this book. It is no ordinary vampire book. It's completely unique and I loved that. It's so difficult to find an original vampire story and at times I feel like the whole vampire thing has been overdone and get a little bored of it. ReVamped is amazing and unique and it has me hanging on for book 2. A must-read
"You kept inching your way into my mind, as if you had some crazy hold over me."
ReVamped was an exciting debut novel for author Ada Adams. You have an endearing heroine, a couple of sexy potential book boyfriends, and a great urban fantasy stage set.
Dawn, a vampire, has been training all her life and never been allowed to put her training to use. When her father finally decides to give her a "safe" assignment she is sent to a small town to train four misfit vampires to be the towns new guardians. But not all is at it seams in Angel Creek and must figure out who to trust and exactly what is going on.
I can't say much more than that, I don't want to be giving away any of the mystery. Absolutely check out this series for yourself I have a good feeling about this one!
I loved this book, completely loved it! I think that I enjoyed it so much because it just seemed so different from the normal vampire book. Normally, vampires are made out to be super hot, strong, seductive and suave. In Ada Adam's novel, they are pretty good looking still, but not all are strong and agile, or seductive. In fact, the misfit vampires seem about as far as you can go from what's "normal" for vampires. And that cover? I love it!
In Adams' world, the vampires are coexisting with humans quite peacefully. They have products in all of the stores so that the vampires don't need to feed off humans. There is Blood Cola, Blood Beer, Blood Vodka and vampires can't forget to eat a healthy diet of garlic so they can venture out into the sun. There are two ways to become a vampire; the classic way, to be made a vampire, and then there is the extremely rare way, to be born a vampire. Dawn, our protagonist, is a Born vampire, so she will age until she dies unless she has a child, which is extremely dangerous.
I had a really hard time putting this book down once I started reading it. I was just so engrossed in the world Adams has created that I had to read it all. I kept thinking I knew what was going to happen next, but I just never saw what was coming. There is a huge revelation for Dawn that I was just so shocked for,did not see it coming at all. I had to keep reading after that!
There are two love interests for Dawn. Ethan, a human, and Sebastian, a vampire. Both are super hot and amazing, but who will Dawn choose? Before this mission she had no idea how to talk to guys. So it's pretty amusing reading about a vampire who is completely speechless around guys.
I literally laughed out loud multiple times while reading, getting me strange looks from the people around me. I was sad and just clinging on in anticipation in other parts. I just can't say enough good things about this book. I loved it, you need to read it, it's amazing. Forget what you know about vampires because Adams will completely blow your mind!
The remarkable world that Ada Adams has brilliantly created in ReVamped is absolutely unique and amazing. It is a world where humans and vampires peacefully coexist to the extent that vampires are admired by humans. At first, it sounds over-the-top but Ada knew what she was getting into. She provides readers with rich and bold descriptive text that her creative world becomes interesting and admirable.
Nineteen year-old Dawn, a stern vampire-born warrior, is assigned a mission by her father, the Vampire President, to train four vampires in Angel Creek to become the town’s new guardians. The simple mission quickly turns out to be deadly when it becomes clear that she is being hunted. But who is hunting her? Why?
Ada’s debut novel had a touch of everything. From the paranormal/supernatural aspects to nonstop action, and the humor and romance, it filled the pages to maintain its readers’ interests throughout. The writing prose is very precise and stunning. It is amazingly descriptive with a story plot that thickens with each page turn. The twists and turns readers are exposed to are thrilling and highly captivating. Ada has a natural talent of getting readers hooked onto the story. When the story seems to be heading to the obvious, the rug is pulled right under the reader’s feet and is surprised with a shift in the storyline. ReVamped will have readers feeling emotions that have been absent for a while. A very fun and unique read and a great way to introduce a series.
Adams has created a wonderful world that's full of suspense, danger, and romance. ReVamped is an intelligent alternative to many of the YA books out there today, and it is a refreshing and unique take on vampire lore. It did remind me a tiny bit of the Sookie series, but I love that series, so I am okay with that. The characters in this book are well-developed, the plot is intriguing, and there is plenty of action. This book flies by. I read it all in one sitting, and I cannot wait for the sequel!
Dawn as a fantastic character. She was smart, funny, and kick-ass. She could take care of herself and didn't rely on some man to save her or make her happy. I really liked that about her. She was a bit naive, but it was endearing instead of annoying. She never came off as stupid, just inexperienced. Sebastian was also an interesting character who grabbed my attention. I always love the emotionally damaged, abrasive bad boy with a heart of gold. I loved Ethan, too, and he was super brave and a really fun character, but I still like Sebastian the best.
The plot is a bit political at times. Not that Adams is shoving her political beliefs down your throat, just that a lot of it has to do with politics and the vampire president's (Dawn's dad) political problems. This novel assumes that you have enough brain cells to follow what's going on and keep up with everything. It keeps you guessing and doesn't simplify anything. It's not overly complicated, but it's not straight forward and easy to predict either. I really loved that about this book. The pacing was spot on and I never felt like the book lagged in any way.
The action is intense. Dawn kicks a lot of ass, and I was kept on the edge of my seat for most of the novel. There are so many twists, turns, and surprises that I was also kept guessing the entire time. I really enjoyed this book, and I can't wait for the sequel. It's hard to believe that Ada Adams is a debut author, because this novel is fantastic!
When I found "ReVamped" on Bloggerdise (a website which offers companies/authors a place to list products and bloggers a chance to find neat things to review), I was immediately intrigued by the cover design -- the aforementioned description was just an enthralling addition. "ReVamped" definitely delivered. It is an atypical vampire novel, so if you are sick of the hype surrounding the creatures, you will enjoy Adams' refreshing perspective.
In "ReVamped", vampires live openly alongside humans and have their own form of government. Some relish media attention, and others have the duty of protecting humans. Werewolves also exist, but they are a far cry from the robust, domineering beings we are accustomed to. Adams puts other unique twists on the old legends as well -- vampires are not only created, but can also be born (thus possessing greater abilities). There are no sparkles or desperately brooding romances in this novel. The main character, nineteen-year-old Dawn, is the daughter of the vampire President. She is a powerful (born vampire) protagonist whose life is somewhat shrouded in secrecy. Confined to her father's mansion, she jumps at the chance to go on a mission to the endearing Angel Creek, a small town in need of new vampire guardians. Here, she is to train four oddball vampires to protect their town and fellow humans. One vampire is a bubbly cheerleader, the next is a newly turned video-game geek, another is an addict, and the last is a librarian. If this doesn't sound like it would make for quite the interesting plot, there is also the alluring vampire Sebastian who refuses to join training and the overly-powerful human Ethan who are both vying for Dawn's affection. Needless to say, the mission is not quite as simple as Dawn or her father bargained for. There are many setbacks and enigmas in the seemingly perfect Angel Creek. You will be on the edge of your seat (or your bed, if you're up late trying to finish this) as Dawn discovers information about her life and those around her. I read "ReVamped" all in one sitting; both the plot and the characters command your attention until the end. You will want to finish it so that you can unravel all of the mysteries. I do not want to give anything away, but rest assured that there are quite a few plot twists by the end of the story. "ReVamped" is jam-packed with adventure, action, romance, and humor. Besides having a great vocabulary and effortless writing style, Adams really knows how to throw in the element of humor. Typically we don't think of "funny" and "vampires" as complementary subjects, but you would be surprised. I like to see a bit of sarcasm in paranormal novels, as most authors are too afraid to brighten the sinister category. I would give "ReVamped" five stars for originality, as well as a captivating crew of characters (both villain and heroine alike). I cannot wait to see what Adams has in store for us in her next novel, "ReAwakened"!
I was instantly drawn to ReVamped because of it's stunningly beautiful cover. So when I got the opportunity to read the book as part of the ReVamped relay I jumped at the chance. I can safely say that ReVamped is not just a pretty cover, it has one of the most genuinely interesting story-lines I have read in a long time. Not to mention the most truly likeable, relate-able and delicious characters, that were a joy to get to know. There is tons of kick-butt action, lots of shockers and a whirlwind of emotions throughout the book. Ada Adams has written some truly amazing world building here and she crafts everything so beautifully that ReVamped becomes a real must read book.
Dawn is 19 years old, she is a BORN vampire, she is the presidents daughter and has lead quite a sheltered life. She is a highly trained and skilled fighter and she longs to go on her first mission out of the presidential headquarters. Dawn's dreams finally come true when her father sends her on her first mission to Angel Creek. She needs to train a group of vampire mis-fits,to become the new guardians of Angel Creek.
But it doesn't take long before Dawn realises that all is not what it seems in Angel Creek. When a human called Hannah is kidnapped when they fail to protect her, the group of mis-fits need to pull together to track down Hannah. But nothing is ever simple and there are bumps along the way. Dawn will find out some shocking revelations that leaves her shaken and questioning everything. One thing she does know, her life will never be the same again.
I could happily ramble on about ReVamped all day, but I don't want to spoil it for anyone. The ending was fabulous, full of action, just the way I like it. If you are after some action, intrigue, mystery, topped off with some well developed, fun characters, then ReVamped is the book for you. Oh and did I mention Dawn's love interest is just swoon worthy, love that guy. I really hope there is another book in the works as I am missing these characters already.
My favourite character:
Dawn: She is everything I look for in a great heroine : She is down-to-earth, believable, fun and she is one tough cookie. I clicked with her from the off and I would love to have her as a friend myself. In the book, when she put on the white sun dress and teamed it with her combat boots instead of heels, I thought YES this is my kinda girl.
I'm not sure how I first came across ReVamped, what I do know is I loved what I saw. From the amazingly gorgeous purple cover (my favourite colour) with the beautiful model, to the enticing blurb, I knew that this would be something I wanted to read.
The day after I looked this up, I was surprised to have an email in my inbox from Ada asking if I would like to review it. Spooky coincidence! I told her that I'd only been looking it up the previous day and would be delighted to review it. Needless to say, this made us both happy!
So I picked ReVamped up a couple of days ago. From the first minute, I was in love with this totally different book. I was reading and the thought struck me, "Holy Hell, these vampires don't sparkle - AWESOME" So many people say that vampire books are on their way out. I must admit, I have seen a decline in the amount of vampire books out there, but maybe I'm just not looking in the right places. I'm not one of these people anyway, I still very much adore a good vampire book - as long as it's not the 'same old, same old' - I love nothing more than settling down with a good vampire book that I can really sink my fangs into (sorry I just couldn't help myself)
So anyway, on with my review of this amazing book.
ReVamped is the story of 19 year old Dawn, a vampire with a simple mission that turns out to be a deadly nightmare. Dawn has led a somewhat sheltered life within the confines of her fathers presidential headquarters. For saying she's a vampire, she seems to have had an easy, ordinary life. Though with one exception, she learnt to become a phenomenal fighter.
When her father finally decides to give Dawn a mission outside of the walls - he tells her he is sending her on an easy little mission in Angel Creek. She is to train 4 vampires to be the new town guardians. The 'Fab Five' - the towns previous guardians - are no longer around. They are off auditioning for shows in Hollywood. So whilst they have the glitz and glamour, Dawn is in charge of getting the new recruits together and into shape.
Little does Dawn know at the time that this mission is far more deadly than her or her father could ever have imagined.
Once in Angel Creek, Dawn sets about her first task - finding the new recruits. All she has to go by are facts in a file on her tablet computer. There's Brooke Mason, the cheerleader. Sophie Reed, the librarian. Hunter Woods, the ex- punk band singer turned alcoholic. Then there's Seth Lee, the Role-Playing Game Olympic Champion. Let me guess, the first thought through your head upon reading that was 'These 4 are meant to be new recruits to become guardians? This rag-tag band of weirdos?' Honestly, you would be right. There is nothing about these 4 that screams that they can become lean mean fighting machines like Dawn.
But Dawn starts to train them in the hope that they can surprise her.
When Hannah (the waitress at the town bar) has her dog kidnapped, Dawn discovers that there is far more to the quaint little town than meets the eye. Not only are there werewolves, but they are the complete opposite of how one might expect them to be. Far from the fearsome creatures people have seen on tv or read in books, they are cute fluffy creatures without much backbone - as Dawn comes to find out, much to her annoyance when she could have done with some help.
But werewolves being the exact opposite to their lore is the least of Dawn and the groups worries. The rogue vampires wanted to kidnap Dawn, but instead had to make do with taking Hannah. So Dawn and the group must try to find out who the vampires were and where they are likely to be holding Hannah.
I won't spoil things for you by telling you the details - suffice to say, they eventually find this group of vampires and hope to get in and out with Hannah without coming to any harm.
Little do they know that things are about to take a definite turn for the worse. Now Dawn not only has the task of making sure the recruits are ready to protect the town, she has to deal with this villainous vampire that has a strange and deadly obsession with her.
With twists and turns and much turbulence along the way, this story is a fast-paced, gritty and at times romantic. I can't say much about the love interest, all I will say is, I fell for him when Dawn very first met him. He's mysterious, alluring, moody and handsome. The perfect combination to set my heart all a-flutter.
As this is Ada Adams' debut novel, I wasn't all that sure what to expect from ReVamped. I was pleasantly surprised by what I found and she has fast landed herself on my favourite author list. I participate in a Best Book Ever feature over on another blog where we get to nominate books in different categories. In a couple of weeks, the category is Debut Author - I have nominated Ada Adams for my entry. I think she is just fantastic and I look forward to hopefully many more books from her in the future!
I like the fact that I could sink easily into Ada's fluid writing style. I like nothing more than being able to lose myself in a book and with ReVamped it was very easy to start reading but very difficult to put it down.
In short I would say: This book is fast-paced, unputdownable fun, from the first to the final word.
Thank you Ada. Both for giving me this book and for introducing me to a new world with some awesome new characters. I very much anticipate the release of the second installment.
Note to those considering purchasing ReVamped:
The author of this book has been the victim of book piracy - The ARC of ReVamped has been fraudulently put on B&N and people have been able to download it from there amongst other places. This being so, people have been able to read and review the unedited, unfinished version - meaning that there have been some poor reviews received. PLEASE do not let these reviews prejudice you against buying a copy for yourself. It is available on Amazon for download and it is the finished version - the same version as I have just read and I believe you will receive as much pleasure from reading it as I have. Please do what you can to guard against book piracy, in my honest opinion, it is the WORST thing that can be done to an author. I know this has upset Ada greatly and with good reason. She has put a lot of hard work into her novel, hoping to give readers an entertaining read - only to find that people are ripping off her work and belittling the amount of effort she has put in. Thank you!
Imagine vampires coming out of the coffins and walking amongst us, with us knowing and accepting them...
From the prologue I could feel myself falling in love with this book! I’m not exaggerating from the very first line I was hooked!! Here’s the first line of the book “A sharp, searing pain pierced through my chest as I watched the guy I liked- the guy I was falling in love with- kiss another girl.”
What did I tell you? Amazing! And did I mention how much I love this quote?
The book is set in 2015- however whenever I was reading the book I felt like I was being thrown into the 1900’s or even earlier. By the way Dawn described stuff, how all the characters talked and acted (well all apart from Brooke) it was as if the whole Angel Creek took a step back in time but decided to keep all of the gadgets and every modern thing. And I wasn’t expecting it to work. But it did strangely enough. I had my doubts I kept thinking “oh hang on this isn’t how a normal teenage girl would act, not nowadays” But it actually made the book so much better….
So not only is the book set three years in the future, but vampires have come out of their coffins into the real world meaning one thing humans know about vampires! They know that they exist and walk amongst them. So what does our population do with that knowledge? Run away screaming in fear? Nope they welcome them with open arms and make them famous. Trusting humans to do the exact opposite.
The characters had a lot of history, some painful, some shocking and some absolutely heart breaking. When I was reading the chapter about Sebastian’s family it made me want to cry. It was so sad. And then when Dawn was finally getting the answers from her father that she deserved a long time ago. It was really emotional. I was ready to cry, I didn’t expect it at all. It’s just not something that I saw coming.
The book was mostly action, and no romance which sucked. Or at least that’s what I thought at first. The lack of romance during the book certainly was really disappointing but then when I reached the end and read the last line I couldn’t help but smile and squeal and giggle to myself. It was the MOST perfect way to end this book! It was so so cute, absolutely adorable, I loved it so much. Every time I think about it I keep smiling to myself like an idiot.
I don’t like Ethan. He’s charming and cute, and bit goffy at times. But I don’t like him. I did at one point (well actually before I was introduced to the hotty that is Sebastian) and soon he seemed really annoying! Like a puppy running around wanting attention from Dawn *yawn* compared to Sebastian he had no chance.
I was expecting this book to be one of the stories where a girl (never been kissed or had a boyfriend) moves out of her father’s mansion to a small town. Where she meets two hotties who are falling in love with her! Fighting over her non-stop. Boring, boring, boring. I’m so glad that this book turned out to be a lot more. Instead of all the vampire-love we got vampire-action, really there was quite a lot of death.
Thank you to the awesome Ada Adams for sending me a PDF of ReVamped as a post-exam treat. Ada, you are awesome and I love you. *totally not creepy, ok?*
*rubs hands*
THE COVER! I have a thing for this cover. It is beautiful. Isn't it captivating? Yes, yes it is. The simpleness of it is amazing. The font of the title and the author is awesome. The spider web type thing behind the title looks like someone punched a window and it cracked. By someone, I mean the girl on the cover. We don't see all of her face but I don't think we need to. It's enough. It gives us a starting point to what the girl looks like and allows our imagination to do the rest. Her amethyst eyes are beautiful and it totally matches her awesome necklace. I would totally wear that necklace, although, she rocks it more than I ever will.
As soon as I finished this book, I grabbed my phone and started jotting down dot points so I don't forget. Not that I think i'll ever forget the amazingness of this book. I know, I don't care that 'amazingness' is not a word. *opens that note*
Let me just tell you that I don't think I've read a book like ReVamped and I don't think I ever will. Unless it's the sequels of this book. It's so different from every other vampire book I've read that it makes it unique. It was such a great read and I actually dropped my Kindle on my bed! I told Ada Adams that I dropped my Kindle on my bed and she told me that I was lucky it didn't drop on my face. *hehe, that was really funny because it has happened before* Why did I drop my Kindle? Because I was so shocked! Best that it fell on my bed and I didn't have to fling it across the room.
This book explored a whole new side to vampires that I haven't seen before. The beginning of the book caught me in its pages (uh, epages?) and I kept turning the page (uh, clicking the next button?) and didn't stop. I flew through this book. Isn't it evident that I loved it?
The protagonist, Dawn, is a kick ass character and I loved reading the book through her. Actually, I felt like I knew Dawn and she was telling me her story rather than me reading it. I loved all the characters in this book, well, except the bad guys. They all were so amazing. With the misfits, they were so different but once they came together, they made a whole and complimented one another. They were a team.
The threads that connected the characters were so..jaw dropping? Dawn's backstory was so shocking and her connection with other characters, I wouldn't have guessed it. At all. I felt for Dawn. When she was sad, I was sad. When she was swooning, damn right I was swooning 12233443x more than her.
I loved Ada Adams' writing and it was so believable and natural and, again, I didn't feel like I was reading a book. She's got skillz. Through her writing, the characters come to life and shine in their own lights. From the very first page, I was hooked. The book was a roller coaster. I don't even go on roller coasters! ROLLER COASTER OF EMOTIONS. Yes. Not just for me, but for the characters as well.
This book was great and I loved it. If you get the chance, pick this book up and I hope that you will love it as much as I did, if not more.
Fast-paced and well written, ReVamped takes a new twist in Vampire story.
ReVamped set in time when humans have accepted vampires in their daily life and vampires have became some kind of idol. Imagine One Direction with fangs or Hugh Grant who bites. There are even shows like Next Vamp Idol or a charitable organization named Vamps Without Borders.
Dawn is the daughter of current vampire president. She is smart, beautiful, and determined. She wants to prove her father that she is capable of being his second-in-command. When her father told her that she will be sent to a small, peaceful town where she’s going to train vampires into guardians of the town, Dawn was beyond excited. This is small mission, but maybe this small mission can lead her to bigger, deadly assignment.
Be careful what you wish for cause you just might get it.
Little did Dawn knows that her desire would come true… in the form of human girl abduction, new drugs that involve vampire blood, and mysterious guy that saves her when she least expect it.
ReVamped is a brilliant story and I love its originality. Vampires are all out and it’s simply awesome that they have become some kind of Hollywood stars. There are werewolves in this book and they are not hot-blooded creatures with desire for conflict anymore. Werewolves live their peaceful, hippie life away from human’s observation. It’s certainly a refreshing idea after reading so many bloodsheds between vampire and werewolf.
The characters in ReVamped are a little too stereotype for my taste, or maybe it’s just me who read too much YA books. I can predict their action easily so I didn’t have pleasure of getting flabbergasted by the characters. However, the mystery is good and I think that is what I like most about this book aside from the originality. It puzzles me enough to flip the pages and continue reading.
ReVamped is a great, fun read. If you like vampire stories with twists and humor thrown in the package, then this is the book for you! I can’t wait to read ReAwakened, hopefully we get more romance and action in the book!
Not wanting to panic the recruits, I casually made my way to one of the dining room windows. Wiping away layers of dust that clouded the glass pane, I pressed my forehead against its cool surface, scanning the horizon for the origin of the activity. It was hard to make out through the thick sheets of rain, but right at the edge of the forest, concealed by the shadowy trees, stood a tall, dark silhouette. From its frame alone, I could not tell if it belonged to a human, a vampire, or some other being altogether. I was only sure of one thing—it was watching us. I rushed outside to investigate, but by the time I had reached its hiding spot, the stranger had vanished into the darkness.
Well I certainly wish I had picked up this book sooner. I didn't start it until about 7pm and I was up until about 2-3am reading it. My reading ability slowed with the late hour but my interest only intensified as I read on and I was not ready to put this wonderful book down. Even after the last page was turned, I was still finding myself wanting more. Not because it was a cliff hanger ending but because I simply loved everything about this book.
The story itself seemed simple enough to start. Vamps as we know them are in the open. We have the wonderful Hollywood to thank for this. Once out in the open and welcomed by most people life seems good. You have all of your politics of course and this is where you find Dawn. The daughter of the Vampire President of the US. However you don't get your typical defenceless daughter. Dawn is highly trained in EVERYTHING and is more than okay with taking care of herself. In fact she instructs the younger ones on how to defend and attack. Honestly you will love Dawn and her strength.
When Dawn finally gets her first mission, it is so far from what she expected. No matter what it is to start she is just happy that her father is letting her out into the field. Brooke, Sophie, Seth and Hunter are her assignment. She is to train the 4 of them to protect the small town of Angel Creek. What seemed like a simple task is going to be much harder than planned when she meets them all. Not only are they basically all 100% different but they can barely get along. The way they clash is undeniable and you will feel for Dawn but at them same time there is always hope, right...
The main men. Oh boy! I use the term boy very lightly. Both Ethan and Sebastian are horribly attractive, however the difference in personality is like night and day. While Ethan is easy on the eyes and simply easy to be around I just couldn't love him. He is the puppy to Sebastian's wolf. Yes that means I LOVE Sebastian and his difficult and infuriating ways. Aren't the best ones the more difficult ones :) Sebastian really just wants nothing to do with any one and you can't help but be drawn to him.
When I say pick up this book you wont be disappointed I mean it in the strongest, most suggestive way possible! The story is different, intriguing and fun. There is something for everyone and the strength of the leading lady Dawn will seriously blow you away. There are a couple twists the will really throw you off but honestly I think that is why I loved this book so much. The pace was perfect for me and when the little twists came it was simply a delight and a surprise! I can't wait for the next book!!!!
ReVamped is a nice change of pace from the traditionalist approach to vampires. The vamps in Ms. Adams' novel come in 2 varieties: The Made and The Born.
The "Made" vampires ones that were once human then turned into a vampire. These vampires stop aging.
The "Born" vampires are actually conceived by another "Born" vampire. The children produced are always female and they grow up and age just as humans do. One difference, in that aspect, is that if a "Born" vampire conceives a child of her own, she stops growing old at that point. If the "Born" never has a child of her own she will continue to age and will eventually die, just as a human does.
Dawn, our heroine, is a "Born" vampire, the daughter of the Vampire President. And they live in the Scarlett House. She was raised and trained to be a warrior, to stand by her father's side as second in command. Just shortly after her 19th birthday she finally gets to leave the protected grounds of the Scarlett House to head up her very own mission.
The fab five vampires that protected the small town of Angel Creek got caught up in the celebrity lifestyle, abandoning the town, and ultimately leaving it open and vulnerable to rogue vampire attacks. It is Dawn mission to corral the only other 4 vampires that reside there, train them, and turn them into the town's ultimate protectors.
She wasn't planning on a group of weak vampires that had no training, nor was she expecting Ethan, the human, or Sebastian, the dark and brooding vampire. And when a town resident is kidnapped during a scuffle between Dawn, the new recruits, and the rogues, it is now up to Dawn to find her. Little does she know that she's the target of a vampire obsessed with her.
Excellent..this novel is excellent! This is a fresh, nice change of the vampire story. I enjoyed reading every bit of it. The story flowed and was pretty solid. There were some spontaneous passages that were abruptly shoved into the plot but they ended up smoothing out and ultimately making sense. The novel is gritty, full of action, and has romantic elements. The interactions between each character were well thought out. The tension between both Dawn and Ethan, and Dawn and Sebastian was written well. Overall this book is fast-paced, attention drawing, and different than other young adult vampire novels.
(Book provided at no cost by virtual tour promoter in exchange for an honest review).
ReVamped is the first book in the Angel Creek series by Ada Adams and was kindly provided to me by the author for Bewitching book tours.
19 year-old Dawn Fairchild is the daughter of the US Vampire President, she is a vampire born rather than made and has trained her whole life to be her fathers second in command. When she is given an opportunity or her first mission to travel to Angel Creek and recruit new vampires as Guardians she didn’t realize the role she would be playing or how hard it would be to train a group of ‘misfits’.
Dawn certainly had a hard task ahead of her, The vamps she was having to train were certainly nothing like what she had expected; we have a prima donna (Brooke), a nerdy librarian (Sophie), a computer geek (Seth) who was recently changed (by the prima donna) and a drug addict (Hunter). Each of these characters were fascinating and had me laughing on a few occasions.
When unusual events begin to unfold and a human girl is kidnapped by a group of rogue vampires, Dawn realizes that there is more going on in Angel Creek than what she or her father initially thought and it is her task to work it all out in order to prove herself.
The love interests in this book are Ethan, the local bartender with many secrets and Sebastian, a moody Vampire with a haunted past. I adored both but Sebastian was a clear winner for me, I loved the mystery surrounding him and his ‘bad boy’ attitude.
Dawn was such a likeable character, full of kick-butt awesomeness but she still had vulnerability and innocence about her which I really liked. Each of the secondary characters were wonderful and played an important role in this story - I thoroughly enjoyed the interactions between all of them; they were thought out, likeable and written really well and the fun banter bought a bit of humor to the story.
The world Ms Adams has created was unique and held my interest, I must admit to being a little tired of vampire stories of late but ReVamped was something new and refreshing; I loved how vampires and humans coexisted, I liked the mystery and many twists and turns, the fast-paced plot and wonderful characters kept me engrossed throughout and I am really keen to read the next installment.
First things first, check out the amazing cover. Isn't it freaking beautiful? That is was actually drew me to the book in the first place, just how stunning it was.
Ada Adams did not write your typical vampire book – no glittering vampires, no hiding from the sun, no hiding from humans, and no garlic repels vamps (actually garlic makes them able to walk in the sunlight – they actually EAT it). ReVamped is a book filled with humour, romance and adventure.
Filled with quirky characters, like Brooke the vampire cheerleader, Sophie the vampire librarian, and Seth the vampire gamer/geek, there is no doubt that the banter between them is filled with pop culture references and snarky comments. The unusual band of misfit vampires that Dawn is put in charge of reforming quickly tries her patience time and again, yet she is filled with determination. Can Dawn get this new team to work together and hold their own when the missions start rolling in?
Dawn is a BORN vampire versus the rest of the team who were MADE. Dawn's outstanding training and combat skills are what makes her standout as a kick ass heroine. She is a vampire of high standing in the community due to her family's position in the world, Daddy is the vampire President of the USA, but she takes her job seriously and wants to turn her crew into the best crew out there. Dawn's commitment to her team, to her feelings of duty, to her morals – these qualities make me love her character that much more.
The other amazing aspect of this story is the love triangle between Dawn, Sebastian and Ethan. Sebastian is the dark, brooding, mysterious neighbour – he's smoking hot and completely the guy I am rooting for. And Ethan is the traditional guy next door with the heart of gold, though he has a few secrets.
All in all Ms. Adam's story, ReVamped, is quite unique, the characters are completely likable and fun to read about and I am very excited that this is a going to be a series.
My Gosh, I love it when Debut authors just come out Shining :D Fun, Quirky, action filled, with just enough swooning. - Full review below !
* I was given a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review, all thoughts and opinions are my own. *
It's books like this that make me remember why I accept review requests from smaller Self published and Indie Authors ! You get the ones that you regret accepting, the ones that show potential, and then Ones like this. Ones that come out shining and immediately go to my "favorites" and "Must be shared with the world" shelves !
Ada Adams creates of world of Vampires with a twist. Where Vampires can me made AND born. Where there is Blood Cola and Blood beer, and garlic allows vampires to not burn in the sun. The characters in this story are quirky and lovable, but at the same time.. can kick some serious A** !
Revamped has just enough of everything. Swoonworthy guys ( Some more than others ;) ) Girls that can stand up for themselves, enough sarcasm and witty comebacks to make me chuckle to myself but not feel like I was reading a comedy, and the perfect blend of intense action, and laid back storytelling. I couldn't get enough.
Throughout this book Dawn grows as a person ( ... err.... as a Vampire ..) and I found myself growing right along beside her. As she comes into her own and realizes who she is. As she finds out some startling revelations and grows even stronger for them.
I find myself in fan girl mode when I think of this story now. I banter back and forth with fellow readers as well as Ada Adams herself as she taunts us with snippets from book #2 ReAwakened. Wondering to myself in quiet moments just WHAT is going to happen next. One of the markers of a good book for me is if I still am thinking about it long after I turn the last page. And guys? It's an awesome book!
ReVamped should not only be on your TBR pile, it should be in your hands... NOW !
ReVamped *Thanks to the lovely Ada Adams for the e-copy which has no effect on my honest review!
What if vampires and humans coexisted peacefully? What if vampires had their own U.S President and their own house called the Scarlet House? Mix in some concoctions like Blood Vodka, Blood Beer and even Blood Cola and you get an amazing debut from Ada Adams!
Dawn is a nineteen year old BORN vampire, who lives with her overly protective Father. ReVamped is where we see Dawn finally able to spread her wings. This girl is loyal, protective and absolutely loveable while still being kick-ass. After training day in and day out in the Scarlet House we see Dawn off to her first mission, trying to turn a group of MADE vampires into the new guardians of Angel Creek. This may seem like a simple task but Dawn has to get all her vampires past their prior issues whilst also dealing with someone, or something, hunting her.
Brooke, Sophie, Seth and Hunter form the new guardian group. Since they all have their own version of a strong personality their were strong clashes, especially between Brooke and Seth but that is all explained within the story ;). The personal growths within each character brought something to the plot and were all brilliantly written.
Now for the love interests. That’s right more then one! But this isn’t the story of an awkward love triangle, just of one girl and two guys. However Dawn does not string along either Ethan, the adorable sweetheart, or Sebastian, the sexy silent one. For the record, I am a Sebastian girl :D. With the way Ada has structured the story we see the good elements of both guys and I admit there were certain times where emotions ran high!!
ReVamped is fast paced with action packed twists and turns! Ada Adams has expertly written a story that brings another side to vampires, and makes the reader connect and believe they are on Dawn’s mission themselves.
"ReVamped" was given to me by the author herself and I am eternally grateful. This book is ONE OF A KIND. I just finished it and I'm sad and happy. I'm sad because I want to read SO MUCH more about beautiful Dawn, mesmerizing Sebastian, cute Ethan and the Fab Four or now five;)I'm happy because finally Dawn gets to learn the truth about the dark secrets and she gets her "first" with Sebastian;) First lets begin how this cover is completely GORGEOUS and your just drawn to it! The characters are completely fabulous, they are VERY well-created and unique. The world Adams had created is just pure satisfaction every reader will have. There are unbelievable twists I never would have imagined and I am shocked! This book is about vampires, yes, although this world is SO different that any other I have read. Humans and Vampires are peacefully living together and have learned to respect each other without killing a human nor having them as a small dessert. The plot is very original and its a really fast-paced book that everybody, any age, will learn to love. I CAN NOT wait for the second book and Dawns new adventure! "ReVamped" is filled with action, romance, its deep, and you can learn from it as well. Also!!! I LOVED how the two main characters didn't make love or have sex, I understand the need to show the love for each other in other books BUT sometimes its better if they just don't. Its too soon in my opinion. I wouldn't mind if they got into hotter situations laaater on in the book though;) Ok so yeap... I HIGHLY recommend it, this book is one of my favorites and I really hope it can be one of yours as well:)
Nineteen-year-old vampire Dawn has led a sheltered life within the confines of her father’s presidential headquarters. Upon being sent on a mission to revamp four goofy misfits into guardians of a peaceful little town of Angel Creek, Dawn believes that all her dreams have finally come true. What starts off as a simple task, turns into something unexpected, changing Dawn’s life forever and leading the action-loving, thrill-seeking vampire teen on a path of mystery, danger and intrigue.
When a human girl is kidnapped by a group of rogue vamps, Dawn discovers that there is more going on in Angel Creek than meets the eye. And it all connects to Ethan, the cute newcomer who seems too perfect to be true, Sebastian, the mysterious vampire with a turbulent past, and even Dawn herself. Dawn must not only succeed in revamping the troubled recruits, but must also prevent the vampire race from being overtaken by a malevolent villain who has a strange and obsessive fascination with her. As threat escalates, romance blooms, and ghosts from her past begin to surface, Dawn is sure of only one thing: her life will never be the same.
Let me start off by saying that I love this cover to this debut novel.Ada Adams is a new author to me and I have to say that I really loved the first and second book.
The story involves vampires and humans coexisting together. In this story the vampires are known to the humans some in favor of there existence and other who are not.
All and all this was great story.Dawn who is a young vampire warrior and also the daughter of the President of all vampires is sent on a mission to trained 4 young teenage vampires to become the new protectors of the town they live in.For Dawn she been sheltered and protected all her life.Dawn has now been given a mission and for the first time able to spread her wings.
I loved the idea of Dawn training a bunch of misfits to be great warriors. The characters had all different personalities total opposites of each other making them a great cast of characters. Some where moody and dark others quiet and shy and another nerdy. You had to love the reaction to Dawn coming in contact with each and everyone of her new recruits .Remember she has been training with hardened warrior her whole life and now she takes one look at this sad group thinking her mission is hopeless from the very beginning. Her reaction to meeting each and everyone was priceless.
For me I have to have a favorite character but, this time it was really hard to choose. But, in the end I am choosing Sebastian.Razor his brother would be my second choice.Sebastian was a young vampire with a tragic past making him a bit dark and moody but, on the other hand very protective and loving individual at the same time.He had many sides to him that made him so interesting to read about.Sebastian a tall dark and handsome vampire that is surrounded with mystery who wouldn't fall head over heels for him ?
I just loved the story it had so much going for it.Love and romance budding for several couple intrigue and danger. The forging of 6 new friendships.I felt by the end of the story that they formed a loving family of there own.I enjoyed seeing each and every character grow into there own making them feel cherished and special and prideful and even more confident individuals.
The story had tons of intrigue going on where we learn about each and everyone's past some even connecting with the future and the danger that surrounds them all now.For some many secrets were uncovered in Dawn's past leaving the girl in limbo and truly hurt.I found her character at first to be a little annoying but, when her past secrets are starting to reveal themselves you understand her character much more and understand why she acts they way she does but, little by little she opens up and unwinds and bit making her more of a likeable/loveable character.
I loved it and recommend it to all whether young are old. This is a Young Adult Fantasy Romance.New Debut novel for Ada Adams and I have to say that she did a very good job for her first novel. So looking forward to the rest of the series. We are giving this newest story 5 stars!
Revamped is the story about 19-year old Dawn Fairchild the only daughter of the US Vampire President Alastair Fairchild. She is a born vampire which makes her unique and extremely strong and able to hold her own against a slew of vampires.
Dawn has been trained since she was a toddler in the martial arts, the use of katana and crossbows, foreign languages and the ability, if necessary, to be Alastair’s second-in-command or lead a vampire army against the resurgent rogue vampires.
Only a few born vampires are made each generation. Born vampires can choose to live a more human life which includes experiencing both birth and death. Because of the rarity of her birth and other secrets, Alastair has kept her a short lease within the Scarlet House complex.
In the world created by Ada Adams, it is the year 2015 and vampires and humans have lived alongside each other since the spring of 2012 when the brave started announcing their existence to the world. A large majority of vampires are considered to be celebrities and appear on such shows as Next Vamp Idol and Transylvania Shore. Others end up with organizations like Vampires without Borders.
When Alastair tasks Dawn to ReVamp the remaining vampires of Angel Creek into a cohesive guardian unit, she jumps at the chance to prove herself. As excited as Dawn is about retraining and re-forming a new guardian unit, it’s not as easy as she believes. Dangers in the form of werewolves, rogue vampires, and humans working together with vampires to make a power drug called Vampiricol that would one day make vampires expendable, stand in Dawns way.
The inexperienced vampires include: cheerleader Brooke Mason, librarian Sophie Reed, addict Hunter Woods, and gamer Seth Lee who is a reluctant vampire accidentally turned by Brooke. Then there’s the dangerous and mysterious Sebastian York a vampire who refuses to join Dawn’s new rag tag team of guardians under any circumstances.
If that wasn't enough to peek your interest, Dawn discovers bartender Ethan Summers a human who is charming, good looking and is carrying around a big secret that is later revealed in the climax of the story.
Yet, it is Dawn’s relationship with Sebastian that peeked my interest since they have so much in common.
Adams story is fraught with mystery, suspense, action, yes, romance, and shouldn’t be considered anything near being Twilight-esque. Yes, vampires are able to be out in the sunshine, but, only if they eat a lot of garlic! There are drinks called Blood Cola and Blood Juice that are able to sustain a vampire until real blood is necessary.
ReVamped is a fast paced story which I finished in one sitting. Dawn is an interesting character and one that readers should enjoy learning more about. She is determined, sassy, strong, innocent at times, and a kick ass heroine rivaling Cat from the Cat & Bones series.
The mystery surrounding her birth was a doozy of a reveal and one that I didn’t see coming. Even though this is the first book of a new series, I didn’t feel weighed down by any unnecessary background or world building that Adams has created. Definitely looking forward to seeing where Adams takes this series after a doozy of an ending to this book.
