Gosho Aoyama (青山剛昌) is a Japanese manga artist. He is best known as the creator of the manga series Detective Conan (known in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom as Case Closed).
Aoyama made his debut as a manga artist with the work Chotto Matte which was published in the weekly magazine Shōnen Sunday on winter of 1987. Shortly after that, another work by Aoyama, Magic Kaito, was published on the same magazine.
As is usually the case, volume 66 completes the previous books mystery and ends with a murder for another mystery.
This particular volume has a nice mix of murder mystery and non-deadly cases. There's also a mystery that requires knowledge of Japanese history and language, but for the most part this one translates well for Americans who know nothing about Japan. Three mysteries were completed in this volume, as well as the previously mentioned completed case from the last volume and the first chapter of a new mystery.
There are no story-progressing mysteries this time around, but these ones were different than past fair and made for a nice change of pace.
The Jr. Detective League is always cute and fun, and I liked the case of the haunted warehouse. It's also always nice to see Harley and Kazuha. The real gem here, though, was getting the sweet backstory for Santos, why he joined the police force, and why he's been going after Sato. I loved getting to know and appreciate him more as a character!
I'm really enjoying the cases in this volume as well as those in the recent ones. It’s refreshing to see Aoyama branching out with more diverse arcs. The introduction of new characters, like Santos and his childhood crush, makes it even better—they’re so likable!
This volume picks up right where the last one left off…and if it has been sometime between readings I would recommend going back to volume 65 for a refresher as this one jumps right into the story. The story involves a murder and there are three potential suspects (possibly a fourth) and the resolution is very satisfying in my opinion. The next case has the Junior Detectives going to the movies and bumping into Inspector Santos. We get a brief backstory on him and how he was motivated to get into police work. He then ends up at the movies with a stranger who needs some help. Upon going to her apartment a body is found! So begins the latest case for Detective Conan. The next story within this volume leads right from the occurrences of last volume and has the Junior Detectives and Inspector Santos again in the story….this time in search of treasure!?! The next story of this volume involves Harley and I must say the coolest thing about this volume is characters from the previous story slide right into the spotlight in the next story. I don’t think I have seen this technique done elsewhere and definitely not as consistent in other volumes of Case Closed, but this was a nice treat for the readers. There is a missing charm and the detectives (Harley and Conan) are on the case! But this seemingly light case turns terrible when they both stumble upon a crime. The final story of this volume is a cliffhanger and so you will not know how the story goes unless you pick up volume 67 of the long running series Case Closed!
The red wall killer mystery is resolved. Conan and his detective boys group compete to solve a warehouse mystery where it appears full of treasure one minutes and completely empty the next. Heiji and Kazuha show up trying to recover a mistakenly given charm she made that contains a secret she would rather not reveal to Heiji, but they (and Conan, Ran and Mori) become involved in solving an assault on the guy who has the charm. Finally, we start the murder investigation of a woman in goth! Fun volume, I always like the Heiji stories.
I technically haven’t finished the volume, but I’ll save that last chapter for when I can buy the next volume so I can read the case in its entirety without having to refresh my brain on it.
Chú Shiratori và mối tình hoa anh đào =))) Tưởng là Sato cuối cùng lại là cô Kobayashi =)))) Trần đời chưa thấy ai nhận lầm crush tận 2 lần như chú đâu

General Synopsis: As mentioned above, I am going to write a proper review for this soon, but I have a few books ahead of this one in the queue, so I cannot stop reading DC NOW! That's sacrilege. I have decided to read all the chapters available up to now (we are almost to 1000!) As you can see, I am totally fangirling over here and I don't care, because this is one of my favorite manga series, ever! But all of this aside, there are a few things I wanted to list so I don't need to go back and look everything up when I do finally sit down and write my fangirl review. ✌🏻
DO NOT click on the spoiler link if you don't want to read all the cases in this volume, because it will ruin it for you. On the other hand, if you're a fan like me or are looking for a certain case (and please note, these are how I have set the cases), etc. click away, that's why it's there.
Another spoiler link, so don't click if you don't want to ruin this manga. I am going to include the characters introduced or as the series continues are in this volume. Personally, I think us DC fans love certain characters more than other (yes, Heiji, I mean you!), so sometimes when we are re-reading this series (like all the time!) you might wish to start at a specific case or start when a certain character is involved.
Characters in this volume:
Personal Opinion: #1, I never call this CASE CLOSED. If you do, you're not a true fan of this series, so don't even bother reading my review or my personal opinions. I'm sorry if I offend you, but you offended me first by telling me you want to read CASE CLOSED or you just love Jimmy.
#2, as you can tell by #1, I read this online. I would never waste my money buying a manga series in english that cannot get the name correct and mess up the main characters to make it appear more "ENGLISH." I am so happy I don't run a blog and this isn't a review on Sailor Moon, #1, because I have a huge soap box tirade against DiC. I also don't think there is anything against reading something online. Comics, which is what manga are, are meant to be read and shared and sometimes paying over $10 is too much in my opinion. Plus, I read the newest chapters as soon as they are released from Japan, because I would never miss a release of DC. So this is my personal shout out to you translators from me, Thank You!
DESTINY AND DECEPTION: SHIRATORI'S LOVE AND A MYSTERIOUS MURDER Shiratori recalls a childhood encounter with a brave girl who inspired him to become a policeman, believing that girl to be Sato. After a chance meeting with a woman who gives him a drink adorned with a familiar paper sakura, he begins to question his memories. Their budding connection takes a dark turn when her boyfriend is found murdered, and Shiratori must unravel the truth as suspicion falls on both the woman and her stalker.
VANISHING TREASURE: THE WAREHOUSE'S HIDDEN SECRET The Detective Boys investigate a mysterious warehouse where treasure was seen but vanished without a trace. Conan's sharp observation of recent footprints and an altered abacus hint at a hidden mechanism. Despite initial setbacks, Conan becomes determined to uncover the secret behind the warehouse’s disappearing act.
THE LUCKY CHARM AND A DANGEROUS ENCOUNTER Heiji enlists Conan’s help to recover Kazuha’s lucky charm, accidentally given to Teruaki Kunisue, a student who hasn't been attending classes due to an injury. When Teruaki is attacked at a sports parlor, suspicion falls on three individuals. Conan and Heiji must uncover the truth while Kazuha desperately tries to keep the charm's hidden secret from Heiji.
Of course my favourite chapter in this volume is about Detective Shiratori's first love. But, is she really a murderer? Oh, I wish she's not. And yes, she's really really not a murderer. She's another girl. She is Ms Kobayashi, our nice teacher. Congratulation Detective Shiratori.
This is special series because Shiratori find out his first love, Ms. Kobayashi a teacher in Teitan. So, he doesn't have to taste another lonely and broken hearted day seeing Takagi and Sato cuddling together. Hahahaha.
waah~~ cerita tentang detektif shiratori rame juga! trus cerita detektif ciliknya juga rame. cerita heiji biasa aja dan cerita goth-loli bikin penasaran! gak sabar buat conan 67 :) hehe
