Rama (7th avatar of Shiv) was born on a Tuesday and perhaps Hanuman too. Tuesday is the day I finished this book.
Loved the simple introduction to Ram and Hanuman, and the further explanation about the belief system which sure complemented the tale. I think the series is fit for layman readers like myself. I look forward to reading all the books in the series and get, at least, a basic understanding-- I owe that to my childhood years.
Brought up in Hunza-Gilgit (Norther Pakistan/ Gilgit-Baltistan), we didn't have cable channels. One was left only with PTV. Soon it became common for households to install a satellite dish and access to channel frequencies such as AsiaSat 7. Once installed, out poured all these Indian channels, such as B4U, Zee, Sony, and especially Star Utsav.
The mythological series of Shree Ganesh started on Utsav just about the time of installation (2000). My brother and I were hooked, waking up at 8 30, on a Sunday, to catch the episode -- good times.
Hindu mythology is thus part of my childhood and of many millennials growing up in Gilgit-Baltistan. Chances are that most of us still remember Ganesh's Arti and unconsciously mix up Hindi words into our everyday Urdu.
Does that make us less of a Muslim? No, but it sure has made us more tolerant.
Religions have the same end, it's just that some are more creative in weaving the web. Ram is the Ultimate and the only truth, Hanuman is the way. Hanuman just like personalities in other religions makes faith accessible. Does it matter if I mediate with the words of 'breath in, breath out', 'Ya Allah, Ya Ali', or 'AUM AIM HRIM HANUMATE SHRI RAMDOOTAAYE NAMAHA'? As long as I understand it, it doesn't.
A month ago a two-century-old temple in Layari Karachi was destroyed by some goons. That temple was of none other than Hanuman's. If only we could read, if only we could 'IQRA' across our boundaries, we will have no reason to raze Mosques, Churches, Synagogues, Temples, etc.
Now, the Hanuman Chalisi makes sense. This was a nice presentation of the story of Hanuman, and his loyalty to Ram and Sita. This is also a story of faith and not taking care of everyone or everything by yourself, rather allowing time, God and people to also take their place. I am a follower of Neem Karoli Baba - Maharaji, who was the incarnation of Hanuman. This was Ram Dass guru, and i learned of him feom his book, “Be Love Now”. Now, I understand the love.
