Farm Girl is the author’s memoir of her childhood on a dairy farm in Central New York, where she was allergic to everything, including the animals, crops, and even milk. She was also allergic to her father, grandfather, and three siblings, who carried many allergens on their clothing, creating strained relationships. Often sick and isolated, she searched for emotional release, which she found in music and writing.
I really enjoyed this memoir by Cindy Freeman. Though it differed completely from my experience growing up - Farm Girl vs. Army brat - there were still so many things that I could relate to in this story of simpler times and families. Enjoyed it. Recommended!
Isn't is fascinating to learn about someone else's little corner of the world? Reminiscent of a Lake Wobegon storytelling, with the bonus here being real places and actual people! Though I have known the author for a season, it was great - sometimes affirming, sometimes surprising - to learn more about her origins.
