La cavalleria medievale, lungi dal costituire una realtà stereotipata, fu un mondo complesso e variegato, caratterizzato da molteplici ambiguità. Ambiguo fu anzitutto il termine "cavaliere", che dal significato originario di guerriero a cavallo passò ad indicare successivamente un uomo di rango sociale elevato, e solo molto più tardi divenne titolo nobiliare. La cavalleria costituì in realtà una funzione pubblica, che si privatizzò durante il Medioevo e accentuò il proprio carattere aristocratico e militare, fino ad assurgere in epoca feudale a braccio armato della Chiesa. Risale al Medioevo la nascita dell'ideale cavalleresco che tanto determinò i modelli di comportamento dell'epoca fino ad entrare nell'immaginario comune.

Jean Flori est un historien français.

Docteur d'État ès lettres et sciences humaines (Panthéon-Sorbonne, 1981), directeur de recherche au CNRS, Centre d'Etudes Supérieures de Civilisation Médiévale de Poitiers, spécialiste des XIe et XIIe siècle siècles et des idéologies guerrières (chevalerie, croisade, guerre sainte, jihad, eschatologie). Il est un spécialiste de la chevalerie à laquelle il a consacré sa thèse d’État soutenue en 1981.

Русское название книги вводит в сильное заблуждение вследствие попытки издателя натянуть сову "Chevaliers et chevalerie au Moyen âge" на глобус серии книг "Повседневная жизнь Х в Y". Оригинальное название "Рыцари и рыцарство в Средние века" подходит гораздо больше, поскольку про *повседневную жизнь* рыцарей в книге нет ни слова, это подробное историческое исследование развития рыцарской культуры и феномена рыцарства от падения Римской империи и до начала Нового времени. Не рекомендую тратить ваше время, если вы не медиевист, потому что в плане стиля изложения что автору, что переводчикам явно далеко до Игоря Можейко.

I have to admit that it was a bit better than the previous historical book I've read. I still had to force myself into reading and I could barely read thirty pages a day but I'm glad I finally finished it. I have to admit that at times it was very interesting, those parts about literature and love in the medieval ages was definitely interesting and I can use that. Otherwise, I'm not really sure if I remember anything else but it gave a good insight into nobles' lives, knights, tournaments and much more for sure.

Historykiem nie jestem, więc ciężko mi ocenić na ile fakty i tezy przedstawione w tej książce są prawdziwe. Natomiast z pewnością mogę powiedzieć, że napisana jest bardzo przystępnym językiem, i porusza bardzo ciekawą tematykę, rozwijają różne jej aspekty i stawiając interesujące i mające sens tezy. Jedyne co nieco mnie zawiodło to fakt, że spora część tematów nie jest rozwinięta tak bardzo jakbym chciał. Wiele teorii przekazanych jest zdawkowo, ale z drugiej strony być może właśnie to ocaliło książkę od bycia mniej ciekawą.

Polecam fanom tematyki, także tym dla których miałoby to być pierwsze źródło bardziej historycznej wiedzy o rycerstwie.

El autor hace un recorrido por la política, la guerra y la ideología. Expone sus conclusiones y las de otros, con lo que el tema se muestra de una forma bastante completa. Verdaderamente me ha gustado mucho. Quizá sea porque es el primer libro sobre el tema que leo y siempre la novedad de algo que gusta, entusiasma. Sea lo que fuere, he aprendido unas cuantas cosas y me ha sorprendido ver la cantidad de ideas erróneas preconcebidas que hay sobre este fenómeno en el imaginario colectivo que nos hacen comprenderlo mal, incluso hasta situarlo mal en el tiempo. Así que si te interesan estos asuntos, te lo recomiendo de veras.

Любопытные факты встречаются: о подвижности рыцарей в латах (жалко о самих латах мало, ибо доходили любопытные слухи), о том, как со временем менялось желание становиться аристократией, пара глав о рыцарском мировоззрении и массовой культуре. К сожалению как всегда не очень подробно, к счастью не очень религиозно - видя аннотацию опасался что автор может забраться в эту сторону.

Molto bello, ma parla poco di tecnica militare, soprattutto sul finale. Sarebbe stato utile ai miei studi un approfondimento sul declino della cavalleria dato l'affermarsi delle armi da fuoco.
