He was off limits, I broke the rules needing just one taste. I betrayed him, he ruined me then left me alone to gather the pieces of my shattered heart. He turned my life upside down and watched me burn while he stood by and did nothing. Even when the truth comes out, he can’t see past his hate to forgive me for my mistake. After two years I thought he would finally give me a chance to redeem myself and explain. He hates me and wants to make me pay for hurting him, again. He promised to break me, and he succeeded. He used my weakness against me, and lulled me into a false sense of hope before tearing my heart out in front of the whole school and my brother. Darius Lockhart thinks he’s won this war, he’s wrong. They may be the kings of CHU but I’m going to show him that a man is nothing without a woman by his side. I’ll make him see the new me, gone is the weak girl he broke. Now, in her place is the woman who is going to show him how it feels to kneel before royalty.
3.75 🌟 This book gave me whiplash, but it was still a good read. There are a lot of exclamation marks used, so it seems like the characters are always yelling, and that's how I read it in my 🧠 and that exhausted me, lol. 🌶 was better in book #1, but still decent in this book.
Contains Spoilers. I read her mafia series and it wasn’t too bad, so I decided to read more of her books. I started book 1 but skimmed the rest of book 1 because it was getting ridiculous with too much drama going on. Darius has every right to be upset and not trust her. Leah keeps secrets and makes up pathetic excuses for her reasons. Darius and Leah have a past, they were humping behind her brothers back in the past, something went wrong, boom he hates her. Darius and Leah’s brother are BEST FRIENDS. Her and Darius have no respect for her brother because they rekindle their humping and are constantly sleeping together behind Corvin’s back and they know he doesn’t approve, then again, just tell him. They end up have a hump/hate relationship because pretty much Darius hates her when their not humping. The story just got unbelievable. Darius had just went off on her and called her a slut for the umpteenth time, this is when they are having a humping fest behind her brother’s back again, while he’s out of town, then they turn around and have a threesome with another one of her brothers friends who lust after her. Darius is soooo possessive up until that point..like really?! So now she’s had sex with 2 of her brothers friends. The other secret. She was date raped and this secret she was supposedly traumatized from it but had plenty sex almost the whole book. It comes out that Gary her rapist and Darius her lover are twins. So one twin raped her and the other twin is her lover. But how tf she didn’t know they were twins, she was shocked when it came out. That lost me. I mean I get they were split so they have different families but…..THEY ARE TWINS! How did she not notice. Maybe i skimmed a little too much lol. But I didn’t care, it been stopped making sense, Then the whole thing with her drugging Darius because Gary blackmailed her to do it, he tested positive for drugs and could’ve lost his spot on the team. I could not bring myself to feel sorry for her, she is far too unforgivable. The drugging him should be a deal breaker. Darius and her brother are best friends and they hold weight in their community, She could have told them everything from the beginning. I don’t want an HEA for Darius and Leah. They Were both very Toxic. Darius mouth is lethal, but after Leah’s secrets, I don’t blame him. So DNF. They need to go their separate ways. The relationship won’t work. She can’t be trusted.
My dearest Samantha just absolutely loves to leave me in suspense for prolonged periods of time 🤣. I absolutely need need need more of these boys. Especially Beck. Can I just say how much I love him. He's so close to knocking Rook from the top spot of my favourite book boyfriends.
I absolutely adored Leah and Darius. Sam has this amazing ability in creating the most incredible characters. I love Leah's personality and her attitude, Sam has definitely added her smart wit and humour into her. She is just an incredible strong woman. And I do not need to say much about our tall, dark and handsome leading man. Darius will have you dropping to your knees, ready to give him what ever his heart desires. 🤣😉
I'm going to say it again. Drop everything and start one of Sam's books now!
I can’t get enough! I am sooo happy to have been introduced to Samantha Barrett. I am in love with everything she writes. Enemies to lovers, Angst, possessiveness, Alpha-holes and so much more.
This duet did it for me. I am in love with this world. And you best believe I’ll be the first in line for Becks book. Watch out, I’m going to need them all!!
Leah and Darius found their way to an HEA but it wasn't without it's ups and downs. Leah and Darius had a lot of growing up to do. Granted Leah suffered a traumatic ordeal but her decision to handling it on her own out of fear of her secret getting out just made things worse. She was really naíve at times. Common sense should have told her in book 1 that no matter what she did; the tape of her assault was going to be released.
Darius had the emotional fortitude of a toddler. Instead of helping Leah deal with her pain, humiliation and PTSD; he was fixated on what she was manipulated into doing. Thank goodness for Beck because he was the rock she desperately needed.
Time away is what was needed for growth. Leah doesn't get a pass on her stupid decisions just because she suffered trauma and Darius doesn't get a pass either but eventually they got it together.
Leah and Darius aren't couple goals in my opinion because they were toxic af too each other but by the end of Book 2 there was hope for this evolving couple.
The Cliffhanger is enough to make you want to st*lk the author because I know Beck's story is gonna be Angsty and Hott AF.
Holy Crap this one just got even better!! Sports Romance with Enemies to Lovers and a little Bullying thrown in the mix making it Unputdownable!!
Ok this book has it all and I need more with that epic little twist of a cliffhanger!! Samantha Barrett is a genius and has fast become a one-click author for me.
Darius and Leah overcome some serious challenges in their relationship to only grow stronger as the story progresses. I love their banter and even the hate they throw at one another at times. They love hard and this one brings it full force. What can I say I love a good hate-to-love tension filled story and this one is chef kisses!!
I'm so loving all the side characters and can't wait for more of them to come now!! They bring so much to this story and leave you wanting more!!
So all I can say is if you love a story that brings all the feels this is an absolute Must Read!! It's emotional, fun, dark, and spicy with a few twists to keep you guessing what's gonna happen next. Top 2023 Read for me!!
New author for me & holyyyyyyy shit!!!!! That duet was INSANE!!!
I love the characters. I will say that in my opinion Leah is somewhat of a doormat. I'm used to reading books with badass bitches but Leah really had a hard time standing up to Darius. HOWEVER, she didn't just lay down, she gave it right back. I just wish she didn't give in or let him talk to her the way he did especially when he constantly called her a whole.
THE SIDE CHARACTERS ARE EVERYTHING!!!! I love all the men! I'm dying for a book about Crue, Saint & Katie. Also Beck is a MYSTERY! I had a feeling 93% that we would learn something & just those last few chapters I called it & the scene was STILL SHOCKING!!!
This writer is great! I loved the storylines, the drama & the characters & I'll definitely be binge reading more lol
I am so happy I picked this duet up & I cannot wait to read Becks story!!! Bye bye to sleep hello DRAMA! lol
Where to start with this book..honestly, I feel their relationship and actions are childish. The back and forth with the constant lack of open conversation got repetitive. The reactions all of them had towards her after the secret was announced was hard to read Because of all the toxic male selfishness, and the constant victim blaming. Talk about piling on. It reads like the author hates women, especially how she writes Leah’s side of events, she clearly favours the males point of view and questionable behaviour. Leah should have had plenty more chances to clap back at the way Darius talks to her. I have no doubt that the male leads would be pissed at leahs actions, but ultimately the male self serving and lack of empathy was toxic, not strong / alpha and came across as gross. It’s a shame because the story idea is interesting and could have been a real good example of how to act, communicate, protect, love and move forward in a healthy way through a tragic event.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
As a true American football fan the author’s lack of football knowledge is blaring… College plays Saturdays (typically) and FNL (aka Friday night lights) is for the high school kids. College teams don’t play for State Championships again that’s high school. College teams hope to play in bowl games, the biggest are for National championships. Ect…
Also clear the author is not American, it’s a hood of a car not a bonnet.
Once you get past that part, there are missing words, repeating words or just wrong words through out, kind of regularly enough to make it a mild distraction.
Over all the series was fun and sweet enough. Characters were endearing enough. The plot over all is rom-com unrealistic, trite but entertaining enough. It is a good, easy read.
There is not enough words, I don't have enough words. I cried, I got mad, I yelled (almost three my Kindle) and...well, I can't give that away. You'll have to read it for yourself. But let me just say this, I love the boys...Every...Single...One of them! They are alpha males that make men want to be them and women pant to be with them. Leah, oh goodness, she is definitely a character to wish one could strive to be. She's brave, strong, vulnerable and yet...she is one kickass baddass and one of my favorite ladies so far in this series. Though I have a feeling she isn't going to be the only one. When not If you get this series, definitely get them all at once. Don't waste time waiting, they are are gut clenching, wine drinking, face fanning, anger mingling and lastly high five hell yeahing goodness.

5⭐️let me first start off by saying, Samantha, you’re killing me!!! These cliffhangers you like to leave us with are just MEAN!!! Don’t know if I can wait for Becky’s story!! Darius and Leah are amazing characters! Their chemistry and personalities are hotttt! But the entire group is so alluring and leaves you craving more from them!
This is a gritty action packed spicy read, which I loved. This is book 2 in the series so we a get a glimpse of the future couplings of our favourite characters.
The boys are outed as being the youngest new billionaires. After the explosive altercation, charges are laid.
Darius and Corvin go head to head over Leah.
Darius is racked with guilt for not being there for Leah when she needed him, but he is also holding onto his anger over her being the reason he was drugged.
And when the tough gets going, bring a shovel, we need to take care of a body or two!
Overall I really enjoyed this book.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️🌶️🌶️ ❤️❤️
I am really excited to read book 3 End Game. Where we learn about Beckett’s dark past and why he “ran” from the love of his life.
I loved book one, but the second book just wasn't my favourite. I was so annoyed at the lack of care for Leah and I thought the the way the girls paired up with the guys was so predictable even Becketts story line. I skimmed so much of this and would never have forgiven Darius for the cruel and hurtful as he treated Leah after such brutal attack s. I also never connects to Corvin in this book e, I had hoped he would have repented and loved his sister but he was an absolute a****** and treated her friend appallingly. Again his apology was weak. With the only male character of any substance being Beckett, his reaction in the last scene affirmed my dislike for the book.
Book 2 of playing for keeps. The last one left me questioning where it would go what would we find out, how would these characters relationships be impacted.
The answer will blow your mind!!!!
You find out most of your questions you want to know until the end when you have to wait for the next book.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, was great full to purchase at BABE2023 in Sydney instead of waiting two weeks for preorder. Thank you Sam for introducing me to your characters, it was lovely meeting you and hearing where the story came from. (:
I look forward to reading more from you and see where these characters end up!
Touchdown is the Playing For Keeps, duet book two and picks up exactly where book one (Offside) finished.
Darius and Leah’s relationship was 🔥🔥🔥 in book one and just when you think you have it all sussed, it all blows up in your face! Seriously what a rollercoaster this book sends you on, the twists and turns this book takes definitely keeps you in your toes.
Secrets will be revealed, but is it too little, too late? I really can’t stress enough what a great final to the duet this is.
I can NOT wait for the next in this series, as I need the stories for Beckett, Corvin, Saint and Crue like now!
Okay if I thought the first book was intense, it’s got nothing on this one! This was so so good!
I can’t count how many times I said “oh my god” while reading this (in a good way)!
Seeing Leah and Darius’s characters grow to overcome their challenges has been so good! The tension between them at times was heavy, very much hate-to-love, but their love for each other is second to none. I love the possessiveness of both of them.
ALSO, let’s talk about these other boys for a quick minute. I love Beck, I think he just might be my favourite character in this series 😍 I think everyone needs a Beck in their life! Corvin, Saint and Crue are really growing on me and I can’t wait to see more of them!
Just because the guys going to practice or football is mentioned, that does not make a sports romance. The author has no real knowledge of American football and should really do some research. American football is not a year round sport. So, to talk about the season after January is really annoying. Some of the story and details are not congruent with the first book so that doesn't help. Once again the FMC is lets herself be treated badly and always gives in to the MMC. The fact that the MMC and her brother didn't seem to care about the horrid thing that happened to her, should have been unforgivable.
If you thought book 1 was action packed and kept you on your toes, you ain't seen nothing! So we carry on where we left off With Darius and Leah and the rest of the crew trying to save their friendship circle from the bombshell and fight that has been dropped. Leah is regretful of what happened and she tries her best with everyone to get their forgiveness but it takes Corvin and Darius a long time. I raced through this book, i was addicted and now we have another secret that has been dropped and I cant wait to find out more with Beck!
Wow what a conclusion to a fantastic duet !!! Samantha has a way of dragging you into these worlds and makes it that you don't ever want to leave I loved Darius in book 1 but hell now im obsessed he's just everything Still drove me crazy still wanted to slap him quite a lot but he redeemed himself in the end This book has many twists just as you think thats it now surely they're happy then boom Samantha drops another bomb !!! Loved this duet so much its my fave of the year up to now !!
OMG just amazing. Cliffhanger totally worth waiting for. Loved the duet. Sam you hit Touchdown with this book. 🏈🏈Love Darius and Leah’s story. I’m completely hooked on the series. Loved all the twist and turns. Can’t wait for the rest of stories for everyone else. Especially Becky. Sam once again you are an amazing author. Thank you for giving me an opportunity to be an ARC. Really appreciate it. Love ya Sam. You are awesome 🥰🥰💯💯💯
Well that was one hell of a book from start to finish, it didn’t stop, I couldn’t put it down. So many twists and turns and then boom that shocker at the end, now I need to know what happens. I do feel for Darius though, he’s got so much hurt that needs to be removed. Leah is definitely his one and only and boy does he show her 😳. Another brilliant book by the amazing Samantha Barrett, you won’t be disappointed.
This is book 2 in Playing for keeps series. Omg what a way to start the book off. It picks up immediately after the ending of book 1. Secrets are starting to come out. Tension is high between friends and family. I loved Cody, Katie and Beck more in this book. The way they supported Leah throughout the book was great. Darius and Corvin are jerks through most of book due to their own issues. I can't wait to get the next book.
Touchdown is the conclusion to Leah and Darius's story and what a conclusion it is!!!
Samantha kept me on my toes wondering where this book would go after the cliffy in book one. I was glued to my kindle. There were so many shocking twists and turns!!
I am completely in love with this world she created and I cannot wait for Beck's book! I can feel the angst already!
This duet had me so gripped I finished it in one day, I absolutely could NOT put it down!!!! This duet is LOADED from cover to cover with twist and turns, keeping you on the edge of your seat foe the entire ride!!! Holy smokes this duet was absolutely amazing and this group of friends who found a family with eachother was absolutely inspiring!!!! Bravo Samantha you deserve a huge standing ovation for this masterpiece!
This series is amazing. The character development for each character including the side characters is fantastic. The storyline keeps u emotionally invested each moment and guessing where the book is going to take you. There are some surprises but one thing remains in the forefront. They are all in it together they have each other's backs always. I'm so glad to see the main characters journey come to a head. Fantastic writing a must read series.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🥵🥵🥵🥵ummmm this book was soooo good my god the chemistry between shay and Darius is so fire , they have so much chemistry and sexual tension it’s insane . I love love seeing Katie and Cody find people as well, I love how into one another everyone is .. This book is amazing , soooo many emotions . Beck was a true stud in this book.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE @author.samantha.barrett and she dis not disappoint with Playing for keeps Duet. This Duet is AMAZING! I am happy we will get the rest of the guys stories in the future as I am not ready to be done with these characters. This Duet is going to hit you with an emotional punch, you will want to slap someone a time or two but at the end it all works out and leave you smiling.
Touchdown picks up where Offside left off. Touchdown is such a journey, the twists and turns, you won't see them coming! Darius just keeps getting better and better! The conclusion to Darius and Leah's story is amazing, an aazing ending tk this duet and exactly what I needed. I'm beyond excited to see what else Barrett is going to give us from this world, I'm here for it all.
I was not ready for it to be done yet. There needs to be more! Now. That cliffhanger… the storyline is amazing. I already loved all the characters… well most. The plot twists and turns keep you guessing where it is going next. The spice is toe curling as always! Samantha is one of my favorites! You have got to read this duet if you haven’t started it yet!!
