I felt like this was a pretty decent philosophical introduction to Hegel. It's quite old but that meant it was easy to find in PDF form. I liked the fact that Mure spends a lot of time- the first 7 chapters, as a matter of fact- on Aristotle's metaphysics and shows how it relates to Hegel. I also think he deals with Kant pretty well and fairly.
Reading an older introductory text gave just enough of a challenge to help me focus. Frederick Beiser's 2003 introduction is more relevant to contemporary Hegel scholarship but I found myself reading that book more passively. Now I can go back to Beiser's book- or any more contemporary text- to compare it to this older scholarship.
I don't know how likely I'd be to recommend this book but it was definitely useful for me. If I've learned anything from my occasional sojourns into Hegel, it's that on some level Hegel should feel unfamiliar. This book plunged me down into that unfamiliarity almost from the jump and I think that's a real strength.
