Decorator and home stager Katy Ruth Gilligan has sworn off men. She’s been married to two no-good, cheating weasels, so when handsome book publisher Jack Walsh shows up on her doorstep and pretends to be her hired escort, she’s not one bit amused.
Jack’s back home from traveling the world as a journalist, ready to take over as CEO of his family’s publishing business. Not only does he want to hire Katy’s firm to renovate his family’s historic building, but he’s also very interested in exploring the attraction between them. At first, she’s humiliated and furious, but the job will put her on a fast track to success. Despite the fact that she’s drawn to her new client, Katy’s determined to protect her heart. Can Jack convince her that the third time’s a charm?
Nan Reinhardt is a writer of romantic fiction for women in their prime. Yeah, women still fall in love and have sex, even after 45! Imagine! She is also a wife, a mom, a mother-in-law, and a grandmother. She’s been an antiques dealer, a bank teller, a stay-at-home mom, a secretary, and for the last 17 years, she’s earned her living as a freelance copyeditor and proofreader.
But writing is Nan’s first and most enduring passion. She can’t remember a time in her life when she wasn’t writing—she wrote her first romance novel at the age of ten, a love story between the most sophisticated person she knew at the time, her older sister (who was in high school and had a driver’s license!) and a member of Herman’s Hermits. If you remember who they are, you are Nan’s audience! She’s still writing romance, but now from the viewpoint of a wiser, slightly rumpled, menopausal woman who believes that love never ages, women only grow more interesting, and everybody needs a little sexy romance. Her first novel Rule Number One is available at Amazon.com and Barnes&Noble.com. The other two, Once More From the Top and Sex and the Widow Miles — the first novels in the Women of Willow Bay series, are available exclusively at Amazon. This is a sweet love story, with some hot rockin’ sex, that makes RULE NUMBER ONE not just a light read but a very pleasant book to pick up and enjoy. This is Ms Reinhardt’s debut published novel. If she follows up with more like it I will be a dedicated fan. BTW, her website is one of the cuter author websites and I recommend taking a walk over there. I think Ms Reinhardt and I have a few things in common, including her tag line, “Grown-up love stories, because we're never too old for a little sexy romance…”
I enjoyed the Irish bar, talk and feel in this book. Katy, Katy, Kate I loved her and Jack too. I so enjoyed the story, the characters and the sex!I have found a new author to add to my list- awesome job Nan!
If you like your romances to involve real-world people with just the right amount of spice to need the air conditioner, then RULE NUMBER ONE is for you. Set Indianapolis,Nan Reinhdardt nails the details of Indiana's capital city, from the Lockerbie neighborhood where Kate Gilligan lives to the Butler-Tarkington area, where Jack Walsh grew up. Twice-divorced Kate isn't inclined to trust the handsome Jack when he tries to hire her to stage his mother's house to help sell it. But Jack finds Kate unresistible and eventually gets her to break her number 1 rule of business - don't get involved with a client. What follows is a quick, fun, sexy tale full of memorable characters who you'll want to spend next St. Patrick's day with. Because with a little luck o' the Irish, Kate and Jack just might get that happily ever after they've both dreamt of.
This is a fun and light read. The story is very well written and the characters are good, fun people. It is a pretty standard romance story, but the main characters and all the people that surround them are interesting, engaging and easy to like. I like that the relationship between Katy and Jack develops slowly and how Katy thaws, realizing that not all guys are bastards. There is also a great little side romance, which in itself makes the book worth reading.
A straight up romance-- this book was excellent. Reinhardt does a wonderful job developing her characters, establishing scenes, and amping up the tension in this story. It's very well-written and edited. I loved the Irish brogue the author infused seamlessly. It added great atmosphere without feeling like she tried too hard to do it. And it's a feel-good story that leaves you smiling.
Such a wonderful love story!! I'm privileged to be Nan's critique partner, so I got to watch this book develop. It's impossible not to fall in love with Jack and Katy. A fun, flirty book you'll love.
