As the founder of one of the world’s largest tech companies, mysterious billionaire Michael Cavanaugh seems to have it all – fabulous wealth, power, and access to the most influential politicians in Washington. A collector of classic art and fine wine, Michael's business has provided him with a very good life.
But Michael also has a secret. One that could cost him everything if discovered.
With the aid of Marlin, a former CIA case officer and his longtime mentor, Michael operates a clandestine organization that protects his company from a global network of intellectual-property pirates who want what he has, even if they have to kill to get it. Together, the two men use whatever means necessary to defend what Michael has spent his life building.
Because of his very dangerous life, Michael has forbidden himself from ever getting too close to anyone. That is, until he meets Caitlin Doyle, a beautiful, intelligent, and politically connected campaign strategist working on the upcoming presidential election.
This is an interesting story--a bit far-fetched in some areas, but interesting. There is a lot of action, and a relatively high body count. The characters are pretty believable, and the story line is not totally unthinkable. Who knows what length businesses, or politicians, will go to in order to protect their interests. What is hard to believe is that a person could build a massive underground complex, ten levels deep in the Rocky Mountains and no one would know about it except the contractor and a few workers. Just the logistics of getting men and materials to the site are going to attract a lot of attention. What is even more mind-boggling, especially in this day and age, is the idea that a person going to Dulles Airport from a large estate in northern Virginia, can leave, by car, thirty minutes before departure and make the flight. All in all, this is a really good story, and the author does a good job of keeping everything moving towards an unexpected, and ultimately very satisfying, conclusion. An easy 4 star read, and the author goes on my "to read" list.
This was a fun read. A combo of Batman & James Bond, a good adventure. I thought the dialogue between Caitlin & Michael was distractingly awkward at times but all the badass characters and the spy "toys" made up for it.
