There is neither pure goodness nor pure evil in your heart—you are what you choose to be.
Those are the words Ivy spoke to him three years ago when she sent Eric to the surface. But she had no way to know that every day the curse would twist his mind further, making Eric more depraved and more desperate to stop the monster he is becoming. Eric puts a lethal plan into action. Once started, it cannot be stopped. The plan will result in his ultimately finding peace—and destruction.
However, Natalia has other plans. She's spent three years getting close to Eric and doesn't plan on letting him slip between her fingers. But when she finds the opportunity to destroy him, she hesitates--seeing the spark of goodness he still possesses.

H.M. Ward continues to reign as a NEW YORK TIMES bestselling author who surpassed more than 23 million books sold, placing her among the literary titans. Ward has been featured in articles in the NEW YORK TIMES, FORBES, and USA TODAY to name a few.
I didn't think this series could get any better. I was wrong. This book had the relational aspect of Demon Kissed that I so totally loved. But it also had the feeling of danger of the later books. Its like the author took all the best parts of the rest of the series and put them in this book!
Assassin picks up where The 13th Prophecy left off. It's not a spin off, although I know the author talked about it being a spin off. It continued the story, which is great. And I'm getting the feeling that Ivy's role in this series isn't done. She's has a powerful role in this book, although it isn't about her. Assassin is about Eric. I loved that we got to follow Eric around. He's still crazy and totally hot. I don't want to post spoilers, but the basic idea is that he's taunting Ivy, while falling for a new girl - Natalia. Natalia and Eric are perfect for each other! I can't wait to see what happens to them.
In terms of mood - this book was lighter than the rest. It still had it's intense dark scary moments, but it doesn't seem hopeless. I was smiling a lot. It really felt like the 1st book, you know where you are reading, turning the page as fast as possible, with a smile on your face and occasionally gasping because its so good.
I don't know how else to describe it. My suggestions: Don't stop at The 13th Prophecy. It'd be like watching the Empire Strikes back and then not seeing Return of the Jedi. Majorly showing my inner dork here, but you get the idea. Assassin is part of the series imho. If you skip it, you'll smack yourself later.
See more reviews up on my blog! http://sparetimebookblog.blogspot.com/ From what the author put on Facebook I knew this book would be more adult then the first 5 Demon Kissed books. All I have to say about that is....YES! AWESOME! I knew there was a lot about Eric that we didn't know. This book gave me way more incite into why he is how he is and how he deals with it. I loved that. He always made me curious in the other books. I'm glad we finally got to know more about him. We also got to see some of Ivy and Collin which was nice. I really enjoyed their story and was glad to see them make an appearance.
I think his relationship with Natalia was perfect for him. She wasn't afraid of him and talked back! She didn't take any crap from him. It's about time someone did that. She was kind of ice to his fire in a way. She distracted him at times from his pain. She has a secret though...and I have to say that it wasn't what I thought it was.
I think this is the first book to a great installment to this series. The ending left me craving more of the story and I can't wait to see what happens next!
AMAZING I DIDNT THINK I COULD FALL ANYMORE IN LOVE WITH THIS SERIES WRONG! I LOVE READING FROM ERICS POINT OF VIEW I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN A BIG ERIC FAN I LOVE THE NEW CHARACTER NATALIA SHE ROCKS THIS BOOK IS BY FAR ONE OF MY FAVORITES I TOATALY RECOMENT READING IT .
Searched all over for this this book for two years. Couldn't find it in any library, book store or in online book stores. Finally found it but couldn't buy it a read only site. It's one of the best books in the 6 book series. There is now mentioned here on Goodreads "Untitled Book #7". But I can not find it anywhere? Would give 1 star for ability to find it anywhere. I really want to find book number 7!
This book was beyond perfection. I loved how every time a new character would come in, their perspectives were given along side the other persons perspectives. So awesome. The main characters switched from the first five books in the series, if you couldn't guess. Ivy did make a wonderful appearance during the book though which was super exciting, cuz I love Ivy.
Characters:
Eric in this story is so different from any other time in the series. He is on a mission of self destruction. It was so awesome to finally get his perspective of things and kind of see what he goes threw on a daily basis. H.M. Ward really knows how to make all of her characters suffer, and Eric is not left out of this particular rule. However, this time he has Natalia or Nat. Natalia is so perfect for Eric it is not even funny. Natalia is a new character to this series and even after only one book I love her. She is an amazingly strong, and cunning character. H.M. Ward has a way of writing characters that always seem weak or incapable sometimes, but can always surprise.
Story Line:
Assassin: Fall of the Golden Valefar is honestly full of so many twists and turns that surprises that at the end I was completely surprised, which is amazing. The story often switched between Eric and Natalia which was awesome, because you get more of the story. This story was a lot more adult than the first five which was awesome. And a total "duh" since it's Eric, who changed majorly even from the The Thirteenth Prophecy. Now he's not completely evil so you can sympathize with him.
Now the story does leave off with a cliff hanger so that means...there will be another book!!! Super awesome right? I would highly recommend reading the other five books before you read this book. Coming into a series on the sixth book is kinda hard so I would go pick up Demon Kissed if you haven't already.
I'm sorry. Really truly I am but I have to be honest.
The Demon Kissed series ( 1-5)(I still consider 6+ a spin off) was as fantastic because of the strong plot that was present through all five books. In Assassin I couldn't even figure out what the plot was until the very end. It's a good set up for the rest though which is exciting. It's also bothered me that years were skipped it felt like I skipped a book. Its sad because the things that made D.K. so great seemed to be missing here like the writing. It doesn't flow. There are POV switchs that were very hard to follow. After a few chapters it became easier to distinguish who was who but I had a lot of moments where I had to reread. It's was also extremely repetitive which is like my #1 pet peeve.
In Ivy's books there was the Ivy/Collin romance which was very well written but it wasn't dominating the paranormal aspects of the story. Here it felt like the romance smothered the paranormal with a giant pillow. Just so you know. This a completely reasonable scenario for this romance. It's twisted. (and I like it because I need mental help)
Ward's characters are always fantastic and this is no exception. I love that Nat is something new.
I'm giving it 3 stars out of complete faith that the rest of the series will blow my mind and of course entertainment value. Even though it fell short of my the usual demon kissed standards being inside Eric's head makes for a very good time. I'm obviously going to keep reading these and would recommend them to anyone... Except my sister ..because she hates books.
Takes place years after Kreturus is destroyed and Ivy as the Queen of the Underworld. This book is told in Eric's point of view (finally.) After years of not seeing what he was thinking or the reasons behind his actions it's truly good to have his point of view. Even after all that has happened the boy is still hung over on Ivy, "Since he saw Ivy last, he had tried to kill himself several times." Yea we all know the boy does not do half ass but extremes. I truly enjoyed this book we saw a side of Eric that only seeing through his eyes would provide, and I truly didn't know it existed either. The boy starts falling for someone other then Ivy (truly shocking isn't it?) I think Natalia brings out the compassion and human side of him that I thought was lost. "Tears stained her face, distorting her dark make-up. It looked like someone had taken coal and drew lines under her eyes. Eric's stomach twisted. He hated seeing her like that and he was the one who did it to her. Damn." must say it was good to see Collin and Ivy still going strong even if they live in the Underworld. Seriously ANOTHER damn cliffhanger Holly!
after Ivy defeated Kreturus and became the Demon Queen, she was trapped in the Underworld with no physical form as it was her curse of using the Satan's Stone. originally an Angel, Eric too used the Satan's Stone to stop the previous war. his curse was to live his life feeding of fears from others. after he was brought back by Ivy, he transformed from a Martis, to a Valefar, now a Golden Valefar. having limited amount of fear for Eric to feed off, Ivy sent Eric to the surface. he was more powerful than before, but also became more and more desperate to stop the monster that he was becoming.
Natalie was not what she appeared to be. on the outside, she seemed innocent and sweet, but she was an assassin. she had been tracking Eric for years, knowing all about his past but not the recent changes. she had to get her revenge but he was so gentle to her sometimes yet so murderous the next, it confused her. the most delicious twist in the plot was Natalie being a Succubus, the child of a fallen angel and mortal. while Eric needed fear to satisfy his thirst, Natalie needed men.
I have always loved this series and this last book, well it was kind of like a car accident. Brutally honest, emotionally exhausting, sometimes fatal and as you drive past you don't want to look but can't help yourself. Eric was always a bit of an enigma so conflicted and torn by his feelings for the Martis and Ivy and then also by her defection to Collin. She brought Eric back to life and made him a demon because she couldn't live without him but in between the curse and the events of the past, he still loves and hated her. Setting up a series of assassinations that would trigger the Queen of the Underworld's just retribution, Eric is unwillingly drawn to Natalia and she becomes embroiled in his quest to end his existence. Natalia is not what she seems and she finds a tiny spark of humanity left in Eric and is compelled to either destroy him or save him. Only time will tell whether she chooses to forgive him or end him and another humdinger of a cliff hanger awaits, I am counting down till the next book.
H.M. Ward does it again with this book!!! This book was so AWESOME! I LOVE the Demon Kissed Series and was sad when book five came out because I Really didn't want the series to end. This book was a great addition and for me a very welcoming one and doesn't disappoint even though it was told through Eric's point of view (which I LOVE) I would highly recommend reading the whole series leading up to this book so that you understand why Eric's life and world is the way is and understand why he's the Hot, Sexy,Cursed,Demon, Angel man he is.....SIIIGH :) If you haven't gotten around to this book yet you need to move your butt along because there's no reason. If you haven't read the series YOUR ARE A CRAZY PERSON and need your head examined!!!!
I was happy to see the Demon Kissed series continue but this book didn't have the same flow. I was disappointed. The writing wasn't well thought out almost as if the author was rushing through it. It was very repetitive and the plot was confusing. I had to reread a few parts because it jumped around and I got a little lost.
I did like that the book told the story from Eric's point of view but I didn't really feel that it added anything further to his character. While I don't feel that this book took away from the Demon Kissed series as a whole, I do hope there is significant improvement in the next one.
If you likes the Demon Kissed series, then take the time to get the paperback version of this book. It is not available on Kindle which I very much respect the authors reasons for why she took it off, but this book continues Eric story. This book does have Ivy and it and you have the feeling that she is controlling a lot of what Eric is doing, but this book is very much about Eric's story. It is a tad darker, but it still keeps the relationships and the story telling that you're used to in the series. I'm not sure the author is done with the series and I certainly hope she is not! I read the series well after her adult romances and I'm glad that I went back and gave it a chance!
I cannot believe the book left me hanging off a cliff screaming to know what happens!! I have loved this series, and this one is a spin off from Demon Kissed that continues with Eric's story. And of course, like authors like to do these days, it has one pain of an ending! Some things that go on in the book are a little strange, at least stranger than my norm, but still so intriguing! Eric is the ultimate good boy now turned BAD. Can't wait for the next book now. This is not for young teens.
This was another satisfying addition to the story...but obviously there is more to come! I didn't mention this in my other reviews, but there are several instances when the wrong spelling of a word is used in all of the books. Not enough to be majorly annoying, yet still errors that should not have been there. Will keep my eye out for further adventures. Again, this is a series that held my attention and was worth it.
I wondered as I read the first 5 Bo's what was going on in Eric's mind. Seriously after he was turned Valefor, but seeing inside his head was YIKES! He is crazy and the again he is not. Tis was a great tale. I need to see what happens next. Excellent
3.5* I enjoyed this one quite a bit, the new character was interesting but it didn't make me like Eric any more. I'd stay well clear of him. Like the rest of the series, it leaves lots of questions unanswered. Oh well, just have to wait for the next book for the answers.
Fucked up. This isn't a Demon Kissed novel though, as marked on here. It's a spin-ff for the series. The novels will now move forward in this matter. I'm interested to see the next one.
This is awesome I loved Eric in all the books and was happy the this book was about him. I hope there is going to be more about Eric the ending makes it look that way lets hope <3
