Knox's narration about Ceylon (Sri Lanka) from 1659 to 1680. Knox spent 19 years on Ceylon after being taken prisoner by King Rajasingha II which he spent among the locals, as a local, following the local customs that gave him first hand experience to include in the book. The original was named "An Historical Relation of the Island Ceylon" and published in 1861 and was later translated to Sinhalese by David karunaratne; one of the best translators of all times. It does have it's biased bits and pieces and hateful writing which depicts the king as a heartless & a ruthless monster in all aspects and the locals as savages. Apart from those bits the book as a whole, provides a very detailed description to the life in Ceylon during the time period of King Rajasinghe II.

It is one of the few books with a proper elaboration of the Economy. court system, social life, food, festivals, beliefs and the eco system of Sri Lanka during 1600’s. He takes ample time to describe the kingdom of Kanda Udarata, commonly known as Kandy throughout the book and the latter part is dedicated to his escape.

I won't say it's the best history book out there but it's one of those books with valuable information. Lose the rubbish and you got a very enjoyable and an educative writing.

i learned this book has more informations anout our sri lanka udarata rajadhaniya.i wouls like to find more information about the history of our country.but i dont have this book in my home.thats why i think to reed this book online
