When the Demon Hordes threaten the kingdom of Dusis, the Dragon Lord and his tribe must use the magical dragon swords to protect their peace and prosperity.
Continuing with rereading the Dragon Knight series, now we’re here at volume 2.
The second volume shows us a few back stories. Mostly about Rune, Thatz, and Nadil. If you're looking for complex back stories, you won't find them here. These are just chapters that show how Rune and Thatz become Dragon Knights while the other one tells us about the fight between the Dragon Lord and the demon Nadil.
Rune's backstory is pretty interesting. We find out that he is fae (an elf prince) and became a knight because the water dragon chose his elf powers to defeat the water demon fish who flooded the whole world in the past.
Thatz's past tells us that he was a thief who tried to steal one of the dragons but ended up being used by Nadil's second in command to kill the Dragon Lord. It's short and is mostly full of comic relief.
The last story is about Nadil kidnapping the Dragon Queen and the Dragon Lord going to save her. (I'm still boggled why she's referred to as the Dragon 'Queen' and not the Dragon 'Lady' or better yet why is the Dragon Lord called a 'Lord' instead of 'King'. I know it's a nitpick but that really bothers me.) This one doesn't explain why or how the Dragon Knights ended up with Nadil's head in the first volume. It just shows one of the things the villain did.
If you really look at it, this part is practically pointless.
This scenario only informs us on a few things: why the Dragon Queen can't produce an heir to the Dragon Lord the Fairy Elder using the Dragon Lord's blood to save his tribe (although it's not explained how) the Faerie Elder made some sort of elixir with Lykouleon's blood and the Elder's magic (again, doesn't explain how)
The other thing that doesn't make sense was why Nadil kidnapped Lady Raseleanne.
Here's what happened and what we know so far:
First, Nadil made Raseleanne infertile by taking out her dragon eyes (To this day, I'm sad to say I still don't know what those are exactly. My guess it is something tied to her magic abilities) and casts a spell on her.
Nadil wants to take over when Lord Lykouleon dies.
By ending Lykoulen's bloodline Nadil thinks he can take over the Dragon Kingdom.
With all this there are segments to his plan that don't make sense.
Instead of kidnapping the dragon queen why doesn't he curse her from a distance? Does he need physical contact with her in order for the spell to be effective?
Also, instead of cursing the queen and having the Dragon Lord come rescue her wouldn't it make sense to kill the both of them right then and there? I'm not trying to cheer for the bad guy, but he could have avoided his own death. During the confrontation between the Dragon Lord and Nadil, Nadil's two second-in-command demons are doing nothing but watching from the sidelines.
Couldn't he have them fight those demons Crewger and Illuser from a distance. I know the Dragon Lord's light is too bright for them to come close, but do you mean to tell me that they don't have long distant attacks to use?
*sighs*
Either way, this one wasn't too great and for me that's saying a lot since I love this manga series so much. But I will admit that the first two volumes are not that spectacular.
Suka sama trio Rath, Rune, Thatz. Sejujurnya seri ini punya plot dalam plot (?) dan alurnya tuh kadang membingungkan gitu. Terlebih gambar gelutnya juga kurang jelas, tapi entahlah, saya tetap suka. Haha.
I definitely like volume 2 more than the 1st. In volume 2 there was one part in the book where I was taken back by what a character said. I like how there was background history in this book:)
It's cool to see memories and understand stories and everything but the transitions were terrible. They were so confusing. It was like all of a sudden we were talking about Thatz and how he got there and then the Dragon Lord and than Rune was thrown in with little Rath (which I admit defeat, he's freaking adorable) and I was all like - when did this happen? I mean the fact that it was a memory was obvious but still. Aside from that it was good ^_^
I enjoyed V2 a lot more than Vol1 for a few reasons:
1. The story isn't quite as spastic, and thus, is easier to follow. 2. It gives the story some context. What's going on, on a national scale. 3. It lets you in on the main three character's backgrounds and a bit of insight into some of the minor character's backgrounds.
There really wasn't much to the first volume except showing the main characters' personalities and some small journeys they took. This is definitely better because it reveals as to why each knight is who he is and a little bit of their past lives. In addition, we get see what the Lord Dragon was like and what happened to the Demon Lord, Nadil
this one was honestly a little better than the first one, but the editor should have suggested a better order for the segments. i think the story would have not only made more sense if told in a different order, but had a better impact, and frankly be a better story all together.
