In the first installment of New Moon, Bella and Edward find themselves facing new obstacles, including a devastating separation, the mysterious appearance of dangerous wolves roaming the forest in Forks, a terrifying threat of revenge from a female vampire and a deliciously sinister encounter with Italy's reigning royal family of vampires: the Volturi.
Here is what I have to say about this. Regardless of whatever my feelings are on the matter or what I say, clearly the cow is going to be milked no matter what else is going on.
If this still has the super lame font bs going on and horrendous balloon placement again I promise I will only give this a cursory glance at the bookstore and won't even try anymore. It's a graphic novel folks, get creative... It does. It's clear they don't even need to try. This will still sell like crack and no one will care. I finished up another book today and had a bit of time to kill before dinner. It kept getting worse and worse. Just as the action is happening, BAM! Super huge balloon over the moment. Even better is HUGE balloon... tiny little
"Happy Birthday"
with a ton of white space in and the words, yup it looks like that since it's Times New Roman! Nice job guys, very nice job [sarc]. I took a few pics but honestly, it's not even worth my time to upload them. Two painful observations, these books could be phenomenal. I mean honest to god fabulous and they just don't care. The other, the art is fantastic. Why do they keep spending all this time, effort and energy to waste it all with poor execution on the tail end? How unfortunate.
Considering how much of a Twihard I am (I know, I know...and I'm single AND hetero. Suck it :-) I just can't get excited about this anymore. They seemed to be taking their sweet sweet time with these releases and by the time we can to see Kim's interpretation of Renesmee I will have (a) forgotten all about it or (b) put a plague on both Meyer's and Kim's houses for screwing with us so bad and have since went into hiding to try and avoid the rest of the rabid fans for killing their beloved.
Oh, bonus, whoever in their drug-induced haze thinks I'm spoiling a moment for you with the name Renesmee you need to sober up. Hello!! If you know the name you've already been spoiled! That ain't my problem! It's not a spoiler anyway. Think about it. I said a name. Get over it. If you can't, report me again, and I will cut you.
I'M RUNNING AROUND THE HOUSE LIKE AN EXCITED MUPPET!!!
I had NO IDEA they were going to continue the Twilight Saga in Graphic Novel form past the first book!!!XXDDDDD
These graphic novels are sooooo beautifully drawn. It's the only decent book-turned-graphic novel out there. Seriously, the people who did Vampire Academy, House of Night, and Hush, Hush should be ashamed of themselves. And I'm terrified of what they're going to do to my beloved Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices T~T At least TID will be a manga XD (I'm biased towards Anime/Manga :))
Edit:When is this coming out? B&N and Amazon say April 23, 2013!!! I will be soooo bummed if I have to wait that long! I mean really, it'll be 6 years before they're done converting the books, and that's only if there are 2 graphic novels per book.
I wasn't even going to read this because the first half of new moon isn't my favourite, and the second half will be forever in developmental hell because certain someone takes forever to finish her projects. I'm actually glad I gave it a chance. It was a great a way to reconnect with the series.
So Young's gonna do the rest of the series? O.o I thought it was just gonna be the first novel...Oh well, i trust her anyways.
EDIT: 6/7/12
Whoa, cover's out already. I really like it but compared to Vol 1+2's beautiful meadow background, this one's kinda simple but fitting to the original book covers.
AND I'M CALLING RIGHT NOW ON VOL 2 EDWARD IS ON THE COVER AND BELLA'S ARMS ARE REACHING TO HIM EVEN THOUGH THIS COVER LOOKS LIKE SHE'S WITH JACOB.
*If Young is actually doing this, Then that's amazing symbolism on her part. *Claps*
So...this was really boring. I read the first two graphic novels years ago when they were still current but at this pace, I think it's better to let them go. Two things annoyed me in this graphic novel. First, this story is boring, I hated New Moon in the first place because of the stupid "gets broken up with and becomes an emotional zombie" plot and the amount of Jacob so it's not the fault of the graphic novel but even a book compiled of mostly pictures and little text couldn't save that awful plot and awkward phrases. Secondly, the large text bubbles that looked like they were made on Paint and small font just made it feel very either cheap or misguided in the way a graphic novel should be formatted so that was distracting. Besides all that, the reason I read these graphic novels in the first place was because I liked the drawing style and that remains in the volume. I think it's a little lacklustre compared to the first two volumes but it was still enjoyable to follow through each page.
Although I'm not really a graphic novel person, I AM really enjoying the Twilight ones! It helps me to remember the actual BOOK story versus the movies. The illustrations are really quite amazing and they capture the key elements of what happened in each installment! Can't wait for the next one!
Reviewed for THC Reviews New Moon: The Graphic Novel, Volume 1, as the title implies, is the graphic novel adaptation of approximately the first half of Stephenie Meyer’s novel, New Moon, the second volume of her bestselling Twilight Saga. In it, Bella reluctantly gathers with the Cullen family on her birthday, but an unfortunate mishap leaves her injured and causes Jasper to nearly attack her. In the aftermath, Edward realizes that it would be best for Bella if he and his family are no longer a part of her life. After their breakup and Edward’s departure, Bella is left adrift and depressed, but she eventually discovers by chance that if she takes risks, she hallucinates Edward’s voice. She asks Jacob to help her fix up a pair of old motorcycles and as they work on their project, their friendship deepens. But almost immediately after Jacob declares his feelings for Bella and assures her that she can always count on him, he, too, grows distant, leaving her wondering what’s going on with him. This part of the story wraps up with Bella nearly being killed by Laurent in the meadow and the wolves coming to her rescue.
As with the second volume of the Twilight graphic novel, I thought this one was also very well done. It definitely hits all the major plot points from the first half or so of New Moon, while sticking pretty closely with the movie version. When I recently reread the Twilight Saga, I gained a new appreciation for Jacob, and this graphic novel adaptation helped to solidify that. I enjoyed Bella and Jacob’s friendship, and although unrequited, I could feel the romantic love from Jacob’s side of the relationship. However, even though I thought this version of the book was quite good, I still encourage readers to check out the novel first, since it has so much more detail to it. As with the other two graphic novels in this series, I thought the artwork was excellent and matches fairly well with the pictures I’d formed of the characters in my mind. Young Kim does a great job of expressing emotions through her art, which is probably why I felt that deep connection between Bella and Jacob. I thoroughly enjoyed reading New Moon: The Graphic Novel, Volume 1 and seeing this story brought to life in a different medium. I’m a little disappointed that the second half of the New Moon graphic novel has never been published, nor have the other two novels been adapted to graphic novels either. I’m not entirely sure why that is, but it isn’t looking very likely that it will happen anytime soon, if at all. Even if the first three graphic novel volumes are all that readers get, I’m still happy with what’s contained in them and recommend them to fans of the novels and of the medium.
I know I picked this up as a joke on the back of a Vampire Sleep Over night I recently hosted. BUT MY GOD it is so much worse than I thought. Heaven help me. The manga style illustrations, Edward’s “this is a skin of a killer vibes” traumatising 🤣.
Weil der zweiter Teil des zweiten Bandes nie veröffentlicht wurde, werde ich nie erfahren wie das Buch endet. Anyway, das Buch ist literally haunted von Taylor Swift. Slay, fünf Sterne
New Moon is my favorite of the Twilight novels. It is not because of Jacob, but because of the angst and torment Bella goes through, before finding redemption and Edward at the end.
I love the drawings in the graphic novels, especially Bella and her expressions and even her hair. However, I wasn't feeling the emotion and wreckage that I felt with New Moon or even the feelings that I experience with the the graphic novels of Twilight. It had the same great pictures and I enjoyed every minute of that, but I expected more of an emotional response from this one that I just didn't get. I am hoping I will feel and enjoy more with the second one. A problem with the graphic novels is they take sooo long to come out, it can be frustrating.
I feel really cheated , this graphic novel is 160 pages ONLY so why is New Moon divided into two volumes ? the story felt really rushed but I wouldn't have minded that if they just finished the whole thing ... I mean since you're rushing the story then you might as well put it all in one volume because a graphic novel that takes a year to come out should either be way longer than 160 pages or should be completely finished with the story .. this is ridiculous..
I quiet enjoyed reading this as New Moon is one of my favourites from the Twilight series. But I found it really annoying that Bella just couldn't seem to live without Edward at first.
Not really a whole lot to review since it's just New Moon in comic form. but I will say one thing, the artwork is just beautiful in these graphic novels and the main reason I will keep buying them.
Now pay attention, because this review gets tricky. I am a 25 year old heterosexual (I shit you not) male and I love these graphic novels. Why? Because fuck you, that's why.
Young Kim’s New Moon: The Graphic Novel continues (and sadly, finishes) her graphic novel adaptations of Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series. This book focuses on the first half of New Moon’s plot, where Edward departs after Bella’s birthday ends in disaster. Additionally, after Bella’s depressive episode she becomes close to Jacob. The public and Charlie are concerned about large bear sightings in the woods, but that is nothing in comparison to the news Laurent shares with Bella about Victoria. New Moon is my least favourite book in the series, I hate Edward leaving and I’m not a fan of Jacob, or Bella’s inability to pull her self round after a breakup - tbh, fair enough, if I dated a vampire I’d be the same. Obviously this isn’t an issue with the graphic novel, but the plot line of the original text. Sadly though I didn’t feel that Kim’s drawings encapsulated Bella’s emotional disaster as well as Meyer did originally, I felt like the well known blank chapters ‘October, November, December, January’ displayed Bella’s mental health so powerfully that this should have been copied here. (Also, what was up with Jaspers ‘grrr’… so cringe, in this instance, showing through the illustrations rather than written text would have been better). Still, as with the previous graphic novels I adore the artwork, love her presentation of the Cullens, especially Rosalie. The occasional dash of colour works tremendously and the art style is just beautiful. I am horrified that there’s not a complete series and that Kim stopped here, people say it was because of her heath which if this is true, that is very sad. I have gone as far as signing a petition on Change.org for more graphic novels to be released - maybe next year when it’s the Twilight anniversary?? (I won’t get my hopes up though).
Argh! This is part one, AND THERE IS NO PART TWO. So frustrating. There never will be - it was written too long ago. Of course I know what happens, but I want it drawn for me, damn it! Review: It’s Twilight. It’s not Shakespeare. I like it. I like the books more than the graphic adaptations, but they’re fun.
Ahora entiendo porque Jacob se enamora de bella. En las películas un poco más y le escupe bella, aquí están tonteando. Mínimo este Jacob no es un pesado como lo es en la película.
