Solomon is broken. Well, that is what her ex-husband told her numerous times after discovering she could not conceive. After catching her husband in bed with another woman, she returns to her hometown, Rock Hill, SC, and starts her life over as a medical biller hell bent to remain in her safe little bubble, ruled by her Siamese cat, Izzy.

Everything is smooth sailing in her protective bubble. Solomon is content to cut off her man-dar switch and live a life without worrying about a man breaking her heart...until a mysterious new neighbor moves into the house that has been vacant since her elderly neighbor passed away four years ago. Then a new physician starting at her office has his sights on her.

Both men know the secret behind Solomon's broken life. Will she be able to handle the news?

This book was gifted to me as a birthday present. What a present it turned out to be. The author starts her book with witty commentary on the life of a divorcee with emotional scars. Intrigue soon finds her and with it danger. But which of the sudden mysterious men in her life is dangerous? Might it be a man from her past? Might it be a woman? The intrigue swifts to real danger and brand new challenges. The wit and irony of the author in her dialogue however does not disappear. I love this authors way with language and the characters interior dialogue had me snickering at times and at others laughing out loud. This is truly a delightful read. One warning though, although not an erotic novel a sensitive reader or a minor might not find this book appropriate. I have no personal preference towards erotic or explicit writing but I was not offended or put off from the fact that the author wrote in a scene or two, hot enough to fog up your glasses!
I love recommending good books to avid readers and with this one I discovered an entire new rating. A seven star rating which in future will mean that I finished reading a book and could not wait to get to write a review so that I could tell everybody to go and read this book. I absolute adored the story and can simply not wait until the sequel is written. As a matter of fact, I am not following this author as a fan on Goodreads! Why, cause I want to read her next book. And so will you.

I want to just say, you have to read this book, if you think you know what it is about, you are way off. It starts out in the everyday, routine life of Solomon, a divorcee who tries to fly under the radar and does her best to not get hurt emotionally again. I enjoyed the everyday humor and intricacies of her life but boy was I in for a treat when halfway through, the story shifted into literally a unique take on shifters, guardians, nephilem, demons and angels.

LOVED it! DM has such witty writing, it made me laugh, cry, feel frustrated along with the heroine. She is probably the most real protagonist I have come across in a while. She gets hurt, she’s clumsy, she’s sarcastic, and I fell in love with her right away. Throw in some nice hunky males Xavier and Drake (Sigh!) and a non-predictable story line into the mix, well, you got me hooked. I really enjoyed this book, kicking myself in the pants for not finishing it sooner!

I highly recommend this paranormal romance. Just remember, this is no formula story, it’s way better, the turns the twists and the shocking moments to make you want to turn the page, or click the kindle buttons away late at night until you realize you’ve been up too long. That’s the awesomeness of this story. Great read!

DM McDaniel has a way with story telling that is not that easy to come by. Most times when reading you can predict what is happening or what will happen. I can honestly say that what I expected is not even close to what happened. She did an excellent job at keeping you guessing and wanting to get to the end so that you knew where everyone ended up! LIONS!! A leo after my own heart!! Awesome Job DM. Maybe you will quit that day job sooner rather than later! Please keep the good stories coming. I can not wait for the next installment in your Guardian Dreams series. I love that you were able to put a twist on Good vs Evil that I haven't seen before. I love all of your characters and I found myself wanting to smack your villians and hug your heros. Lions, Wolves, Ghost and Vampires Oh MY! Excellent job.

Most paranormal books end up being bad but every once in awhile they get it right and this is one of those times. I loved this book and will reread it.

Ew! Just finished reading Broken by DM McDaniel and let me tell you, if you haven't read it grab your copy!! 5/5 stars! I was given this book by a friend when I requested help breaking into the Paranoramal genre and I am NOT disapointed! I read this book in less than 48 hours! Loved the characters, loved the writing. I truely felt like I was there thinking and feeling everything Solomon was. :) It was a great leap into the genre, I've been having problems finding paranormal that I can get into but this one really pulled me in! I'm waiting impatiently for book 2 so I can dive back into Solomon and Xavier's story!!

My Review:

I really got into the book from the first chapter. Soloman is a woman who believes she is not worthy of the love she should have gotten from her previous marriage when infact she is stronger then she knows. When the two men Xavier and Drake come into her life Solomon has to trust in herself that she is worthy of love and being more then just a mere human when she is something more special then she gives herself credit for. I really love this storyline because it brings out all my favorite paranormal genre (shapeshifters, vampires & the fallen). Broken is a story of love, loss & strength and a story that once you start one the 1st page you will not want to put it down. Once I was deep into the story I didn't want it to end and was sad to see these characters leave. I am excited to see more from this wonderful author.

This book surprised me. I often spend hours looking for book to purchase on my amazon account. Not one to waste money I make my selections carefully. Wow did I get my $.99 worth!!! I'm waiting to read the next book in the series because although Broken was a good book...it lacked something. I will move on to other books but will comeback one day to read book two.

Honestly, when I started this book I thought it was a contemporary book. After reading the synopsis, it read (to me at least) as a contemp. book about a woman unable to conceive and a new love that helps her heal...Or something along those lines. What I did NOT expect was a book about heaven and hell, shape-shifters, angels, demons and a vampire thrown in for good measure. However, that did not faze me and I continued on with my reading.
Now although the story was okay, I have to say that the writing did not appeal to me. I did not like it at all. It seemed very amaturish. And to be completely truthfull I did not like the main character. She was so damned annoying! As well as being whiny and childish. From this story we are told that she is about twenty-seven or twenty eight. But in one plotline she goes to a dance, kisses someone, the person takes off and the next day she tells her best friend (after crying all night, mind you) "he kissed me and left and I will never go to that party again". This is a friend's party she's been going to annually. I mean really dude. How old ARE you?! That's what I will expect my high school teen-aged daughter to come home and tell me when she goes to a party.
And throughout the book a lot of what happens does not ring true. I know, I know...It's supposed to be UF or whatever, but there were A LOT of coincidences in this book, too many if you ask me, too many to be plausible.
I did give it a 2.5 rating because I did want to know what happened in the end, andit did capture my imagination somewhat, but not enough.

Has a loved one ever told you, that you were broke? It hurts doesn’t it? In DM McDaniel’s book Broken, first In the Guardian Dream series, this is what happened to main character Sullivan. Follow Solly on a soul searching adventure, one that will surprise both the reader and the characters. Solly goes on a whirl wind ride to find the truth about whom and what she is to become. Sully will find her love and come to the realization that she is truly not broke. A story full of twists and turns shifting at every turn of the page. The author’s use of witty comebacks made me fall out of my chair laughing. What do you get when you have a hunky man, a sexy vampire and a pretty lady you get a book worth reading. I cried and laughed with the characters because they are easy to fall in love with, the story is well written and when you are done you will want to pick up the next one.

It took me a while to read this book, I started reading it three times before I finally got past the first chapter and then I didn't put it down until I finished, now I can't help but thinking why it took me all this time in the first place. I really enjoyed this book and the characters, the world created is well done and some moments of reality for everyday people is refreshing in this genre. Solomon and Xavier are loveable characters and I even managed misty eyes in some parts of the story. I absolutely loved Izzy and JD was a bonus, Lennon is someone I want to read more about and I don't think that anyone who read this story wouldn't love to have two friend like Heidi and Parker. I look forward to the next book by D.M. McDaniel

I really liked the book, I didn't expect the paranormal aspect at all but was intrigued. I agree that the main character had some serious self esteem issues but I could relate to her given I had experienced the same self doubt and loathing after surviving an abusive relationship. Unless you've been in one you might be quick to say she was a bit on the childish side but it's really not the case. I felt the main character was written in a way that was true to life although maddening at times when the guy is practically throwing himself at her, but like I said I can relate. When my own Xavier came into my life I had those same doubts, but here we are 18 years later..Sorry I digress, anyway I enjoyed this book and already am 75% done with the 2nd one Restored.

It is really hard to believe that this is DM's 1st book. She has created a wonderfully sexy, funny new twist in the paranormal genre. This world is filled w/shapeshifters, fallen angels, demons, transits and vampires and more. This is mainly Solomon's and Xavier's story, but has a cast of great, lesser characters in it. DM has created so many twists and turns that I just had to keep reading far into the night. Part two, Lennon's story, will be out soon, and I am looking forward to snapping it up.

This was sweet shapeshifting romance. I really liked reading it on my deck in the summer sun. I would gladly read more of this series. The characters were fun, warm and complex enough to keep you interested. The plot was steady and moved the book along. I enjoyed it.
