Ideas - This book was created to not only help children’s reading but can also be used to develop their math skills by counting how many puppies have run away and how many are left.
Sentence Fluency - The sentences in the book flow succinctly from one to the other. A rhythmic flow is created that allows the reader to almost sing-along with the book as they go. Each page has a different set of rhyming words that help tell the story such as “run” and “fun” or “eat” and “treat”
Presentation – The picture book places the text in appropriate areas of the page, whilst integrating it within the pictures subsequently helping readings link the words with the pictures on each page.
This book is a great resource for helping students learn basic counting skills. As you are reading this book you are able to ask questions about how many puppies are left and how many have gone away, and how children reached their answer. It is a great introduction to counting and subtraction.
Another cute book. This one is a counting book much like the 5 little monkey songs where one goes away. This is a bit less mathematical because it does not state how many are left, the teacher, parent, or instructor would have to have students count to find out how many are less and pose it as a subtraction by one question.
