Although I couldn't find any references to the game of pool, except the way in which the characters play off each other to reach their goal... This was a very difficult book to read, not because of the storyline, which was intriguing, but because of the writing technique. There may have been a glitch in my e-reader, but in almost each chapter, sentences as well as entire paragraphs were repeated, making it difficult to keep the train-of-thought. Besides having an overabundance of dependent, participial clauses, sentences were flowery and elaborate, almost poetic, to the point of purple prose, and in some cases, so awkward as to seem that they’d actually been translated from another language into English. Other sections were so straightforward, they appeared to have been written by a second person.
In spite of this, there’s a story there, and to the reader who has the wherewithal to stick with it, it’s an enjoyable one, and the characters are intriguing, especially Arlington Cross. Who’s have thought the world of antiques could be so exciting, sexy, or dangerous? Read Rack ’Em and see for yourself.
