The heroine in this book is one of the most annoying and stupid characters I've ever read about. She has no clue, is dumb and still never listens to other people. Then she gets in trouble and the guys have to rescue her. When she gets scolded for it she even wonders why people are pissed. Seriosuly did she lose her brain when she was turned into a Marge?!?!

But still the author writes about how others are in awe of her and of course several men want her. Why they would want someone like her I have no clue.

I know many readers seem to gush about that Logan guy. But apart from the rare moments he talks about his family he is just a disrespectful, annoying, possessive asshole. He is such a walking cliché PR alpha male it's not even fun anymore. That he could be interested in someone like Silver also makes me doubt his intelligence.

Of course, the author has to go the predictable route with him and Silver. He kidnaps her (after the dumb chick lets him into the house) to deliver her to her enemy, then changes his mind and suddenly they work together. Btw, the moment he entered her room he marked it and her. What a surprise. *rolls eyes* She tells him that she can't trust him and will never love again but lets him treat her like property? Really? She sleeps with him in one bed, lets him kiss her, he hits every male who even looks at her the wrong way (one friend even has to ask for permission to heal her) and she is cool with that? Wasn't she so keen on independence?

In one scene she gets kidnapped (again), he occurs to her in a dream, she accuses him over selling her out (which is cool since she can't trust him, remember) but he only has to deny it and she's all like "Cool, then lets make out!" WTF?!?! Apart from that we get the usual bad PR clichés: only she can calm him, she feels that he loves her, she is impressed when he fights to rescue her (used later to justify why she falls for him???), he growls around all the time etc. Urgh!

I really wish he turns out to be a bad guy and slits her throat. That will teach her a lesson.

It seems like unfortunately everything is just a means to bombard us with that "romance". Other scenes I was really interested in reading about were finished in one paragraph only to get back to page after page of boring Silver and Logan scenes. It felt like 20% action and INTERESTING characters (Justus!!!!!!!!!, Remi, Simon) and 80% bad "romance" with the stupid chick and the asshole.

The saddest thing about that is that the world the author created is really interesting. She could do so much with it but prefers to go the PR route. Same with some of the characters. Justus is one of the most intruguing males I've read about, Simon, Remi and Finn seem interesting as well. But everyone has to step back for the sake of the "romance". I hope this changes in the next book!

I'm in love, officially, with Logan Cross. This book is awesome. Its rating is actually closer to 5 stars, like 4-3/4.

Our Silver is struggling to accept her new life as a Mage and to be a good learner. But, trouble just seems to find her no matter what. The benefactor wants her back and he will do whatever it takes to get her. Enter into the picture, Logan Cross. Logan is not a Mage, he is a Chitah. He is sent to kidnap Silver but things take a different path. Justus, Simon, Adam, and Knox are working to discover who the benefactor is and every step takes them closer. Silver's friend, Sunny, is back as well. I liked that the book dwelled on her for awhile, sort of a dual story line.

This book is full of sweet moments and intense action and suspense. Logan is fantastic. He has some of the best lines. I love seeing how Silver is developing into this new life. Different from other Mage, she is clinging to some of her humanity. She confounds her fellow Mage when she willingly risks her life to save humans or other Breed that she doesn't even know. Silver is getting stronger and learning to trust, both in her own instincts and in those that care about her. And they, in turn are gaining respect for this new Mage. I can't wait to see where her adventures go next.

Twist is the second installment in Dannika Dark's urban fantasy series titled: Mageri. Ms. Dark is an amazing writer of paranormal/urban fantasy and I adore her Seven series. Mageri has been a difficult storyline for me to invest in though. After finishing the first book Sterling with three stars, I was pretty hopeful that Twist would be the one to win me over but it was a struggle. Based on my personal reading experience, Sterling warranted those three stars and I detailed why in my review, but for Twist, I can't really tell you why it feels like a 3-star read except for it felt like a chore to pick it up each day. I wasn't engaged or invested at all. This is why I think it was probably just a bad reading week for me or something. Regardless of the reason, I'm putting this series down for now. Probably not forever but certainly for now. I wouldn't deter anyone from trying Mageri though. Ms. Dark definitely has some skills and like I said, it was probably just me. Check it out!

My favorite quote:
“Careful what you choose for your purpose in life; revenge is a swamp you’ll get lost in.”

The Mageri series includes the following installments as of February 2016:
#1-Sterling
#2-Twist
#3-Impulse
#4-Gravity
#4.5-Closer

Update: Reread 2022

Don't ask me why I keep coming back to this book in this series. I don't know either. I just kinda sorta really enjoy it now that I have the full perspective of a finished series. I think it's my favorite in this series. I don't know how that happened considering how my original review reamed this book into oblivion 😅

But yeah.... I was (still am?) in a slump and this book was what my brain decided to fixate on so here we are. I really enjoyed this reread. You can also tell how much Nicole Poole (the narrator) has evolved in her craft since this was recorded.

Update: Reread 2018

I reread this novel in July 2018 to see if, with some perspective, my opinion would change and it did somewhat. Looking back I was shipping Justus and Silver so fervently that it got in the way of me seeing how caring Logan was towards Silver. I still don't agree and can't begin to wrap my head around what he did in the beginning, but I can see the appeal it has for the story and character development. I still adore the world building of this series and how everything feels so real.

This book felt like a huge filler to me. It's either that or the only way the author found it in herself to introduce Logan Cross as a love interest. The story felt like it went in circles and the ending didn't really leave me satisfied because no one was caught. There were a scene or two that was heartwarming, but that's about it.

Silver seemed so naive, in this novel, to the point that it became a running joke in my head of 'What will Silver do next?'. The whole novel only happened because of her idiotic life threatening mistakes. Had she never opened the door or called to ask her guardian or Simon if she was supposed to be expecting someone, then at most she would have had to get out of there by car and meet up with them.

Logan rubbed me the wrong way from the moment he met Silver. Maybe I hold too tightly onto grudges, but I can't forgive someone for doing what he did in the beginning. I don't care about the extenuating circumstances. You don't do that to anyone, ever. He was sweet and protective, but I'm on team Justus.

I'm starting the think that I'm on the wrong side of this 'possible' love triangle because I ship Silver with Justus. So because of that I despised every moment with Logan. Though both men seem to be polar opposites of each other and I'm guessing that's the appeal. I don't like it in the least.

The ending was one of the few parts of the story that I adored. Her moment with Justus was incredible and I want to get to know him a little bit better. The moment with Finn was also high on my list of enjoyable moments.

The Audio Book:

The narration was very good. I could distinguish between all the character voices. I have nothing but positive things to say about this audio book.

I love this whole series. The author is a wonderful writer and her characters are very well written. I just re-read it and loved it just as much the second time around. I have to say it is a really rare thing for me to re-read a book but this drew me in as much as it did the first time. If you love paranormal romances, you should start with Sterling(Book 1) and read all of them.It has one of the best romances and one of the best if not the best love interest of any book I have ever read.
*****
Another re-listen. This series is one of less than a handful that I reread. Or re-listen. The series features mages that are unlike any from other paranormal series, cheetahs(and they aren’t shifters)and shifters. The next book introduces a vampire that ends up being the romantic hero from her Crossbreed series. This one is a twist away from book one, hence the name of the book. The romance in this book is still my favorite of any paranormal romance. Or most other books as well. It’s both paranormal romance and urban fantasy. And narration by Nicole Poole could stand up with any of the best narrators in the business. She does amazing accents and male voices as well.
Highly recommend this whole series!

3.5/5 stars

Just like with the first installment, I was very entertained and I would recommend it to UF and PR fans. It has really good moments and I am hooked. I just can't bring myself to give it a higher rating for several reasons:

The whole thing is still extremely sexist.

The romantic situation feels like a mess and a sort of course correction. Once again, we are adding a new love interest to the mix, now we have 4 (although some of them are being pushed away from that role now). Yet again, he is a hot stranger that becomes INSTANTLY DEVOTED to her. I still don't understand this phenomenon. How is she doing this? Is this part of her special individual mage secret powers or what? At this point, I am really hoping for the series to turn into some kind of reverse harem situation like the Anita Blake series, or at least add some polyamorous relationships. A girl can hope, can't she?
I am also getting impatient with the "heroin" making out with guys without going further than second base. What is this, a young-adult book? She is nearly 30 and she is surrounded by a bunch of hot supernatural domineering and loyal men lusting after her.. .Grow up already and live a little woman!

Between the 2 first books of this series, Silver gets attacked and kidnaped like a million times, and not just by the bad guys, but also by randoms. Her powers of attractions are unparalleled I tell you, and yet, the one who is supposed to have the sexual mojo is Justus, ha!

Silver gets herself into pretty stupid and avoidable situations, while the men make decisions that help these outcomes, like repeatedly leaving her alone, despite stating hundreds of times that she cannot be alone. Again, this kind of situations are hard to believe.

I still find Silver judgmental and hypocritical of sexual matters. Last time, she discriminated against sexually active women (she got offended by the possibility of someone thinking that she was "the kind of women who slept around" and said she wasn't a "whore"). I really hated that. This time, she goes to a sort or supernatural BDSM club and just proceeds to judge that whole scene. Again, I really don't appreciate that.

Despite all the above problems, I did enjoy the general story and pace, and I am curious to see where everything goes, specially with the men (still hoping).

Anyways, I am moving on to the third installment.

2.5 frustrated stars

I loved Sterling. Despite some of Zoe’s questionable (stupid) behaviour and reactions, I liked her. And I loved every single one of the strong personalities of Justus, Simon and Adam. So how did this go from 4 stars to a cringe-worthy 2.5?

Well. For starters, Dannika Dark introduced a fourth love interest. Third if you don’t count Justus as a love interest. Apparently none of them were good enough for Zoe (Zoe agrees) so she brings in Logan.

Me? I was rooting for Justus. I LOVE a mentor falling for their student story, a hate-to-love relationship etc etc. I just plain love Justus.

This here is the kicker though: I don’t like Logan. There is nothing that I like about him: not his long hair, not the way he falls at Zoe’s feet upon meeting her and follows her around like a needy cat. Nope nope nope.

Second, I hated the plot. It consisted of Zoe acting like a toddler, acting out, throwing hissy fits and almost getting herself killed several times while all the men in her life take turns mollycoddling her. I have no recollection of what happened apart from something about a dungeon, a juicer and a fire. And a prison.. Not in that order.

Third and related to one and two, the character development was a mess. It felt like Dark forgot who her characters were, because they were continually doing and saying completely contradictory things.

What happened?!?

I think I'll preserve my good memories of Sterling and Seven Years and not continue the Mageri series.

I am loving the Mageri series and Twist, book 2, does not disappoint!

Book 1, Sterling, set up a complicated world with great characters and introduced the Mageri. It ended with a "twist" and left me wondering how Ms. Dark would juggle a wealth of hot men connected with Silver.

Amazingly enough, we get even hotter men as Logan, a Chitah, is introduced into the mix, along with a variety of interesting peripheral characters who I suspect will be developed in future books.

The plot revolves around the continuing search for the "Benefactor", who abused Silver, stealing her light in book #1. What I loved was that Ms.Dark weaves all the wonderful men into the action, developing their individual relationships with Silver, though all take a back seat to Logan, who is definitely "wet panties" material.

My one gripe is that Silver might be a bit heavy on the protestations of horror connected to Logan's predatory ways, when she is obviously hooked on the man, but luckily Logan's OK with a patiently seductive courtship, so Silver's reluctance simply means more drool-worthy scenes with the two of them.

I'm looking forward to future books, there's so much potential to be spun into stories and I recommend you pick up these two books NOW, while they're inexpensive, cause word-of-mouth popularity may rationalize higher prices in the future.

OK. I am hooked. After this second installment in the Mageri series, I understand what all the fuss is about with this author. I read the whole thing in one sitting.

Confession number two: I was totally skeptical when I read the blurb and saw that there was yet another man coming into the heroine’s life. If you read my review on the first book, you would know there were already three guys who had the potential to be her love interest. And now, I am rooting for none of them. Because I have a new character named Logan Cross to ship.

As the story begins, Silver (Who I still think of as Zoe) is still training to understand what it means to be a mage. Justus is a good teacher, but he is very old-school and he keeps her pretty cloistered. She misses her best friend, though, and reaches out to Sunny behind his back. (Yay for the return of this character and cameo appearance by the cat. Their introduction, and later absence, in the first book kind of irritated me.)

Meanwhile, the bad guy who survived book one, is gunning for Silver. He wants his toy back. So he hires a man to kidnap her. That is Logan. He is a Chitah, a new supernatural breed we haven’t been introduced to yet. There is something cat like going on, but he is super powerful and his bite is poison. But he is immediately drawn to Silver and a strange relationship between them is born.

I don’t want to spoil too much, but I loved these two together. It is an unusual pairing and a slow burn and I don’t care. Because at the end of the day it is so clear that he loves her. None of the other guys in her life have ever been so upfront about their intentions and it’s nice to see her get that for a change.

I also really love the secondary romance brewing between Sunny and Knox, Adam’s best friend. Yeah, it came out of nowhere, but it also came on like a freight train and I was 100% on board.

Silver doesn’t always make the best choices in her efforts to ferret out her nemesis, but I understand what drives her. And I respect the fierceness in which she values the people she cares about.

I can’t wait to spend time with more of the Chitah and to see how Silver’s love life plays out. And I can’t wait for the bad guy to get what’s coming to him. Will definitely keep reading.

Struggled a bit to finish this one. I gave three stars to the first book, even though there were a few things I didn't like. First books can often be a little bit hit and miss, so I was willing to be generous. Unfortunately the problems continue into this book too. I just don't like the heroine, Silver. She is contradictory and inconsistent and I was reaching the point where, not only did I not care what she did next, I actually hoped she'd be killed and one of the other characters would take over as lead. It's a shame because the world Dannika Dark has created is interesting and has potential, but I don't feel inclined to read any more of this series.

Second Review Re-read for Dannika Dark Buddy Read in Gotta Have Romance with a Kick group.

This one really picks things up. Now that some of the perimeters of the world are established we spend less time on those issues and more time spending more time in the Breed world, and learning customs. Naturally Silver believes this means don't tell Justus things, and to go gallivanting around sans support/body guard etc.

Silver is still living with Justus and hasn't really seen Adam since the last book. She's full of guilt for his choice. Needing some girlfriend connection Silver calls Sunny and tries to convince her she's actually Zoe, and has Sunny come out, but without telling anyone.

Somehow Adam ends up in the mix with his friend Knox, who is a human, and that throws Silver for a loop. That Adam can remain in contact with a human friend, and she isn't allowed to. So that's what prompted her to call Sunny. Needless to say Justus finds out, and some shit goes down. But time and again Silver doesn't listen to Justus. What drives me nuts is after the first incident you'd think she'd listen and not be a bull in a china shop, but nope. She still goes off on her own in a world she hasn't been immersed in long enough and still clearly doesn't know all the customs and Breeds it entails. It doesn't help that Justus doesn't really let Silver do much without a guardian.

Eventually they find out some crucial information that leaves Silver at home and Sunny, Knox, Simon and Justus to travel on their own. While on the phone with Simon there is a knock on the door. Ok first - isn't this like some kind of underground bunker? So is it typical to have people knocking on the door? And she assumes it's going to be Adam. So she hangs up with Simon to answer the door. It's not Adam. Enter Logan Cross a Chitah. Chitah are awesome people with animal like instincts that kick in called "flipping their switch" which is to say they can't be reasoned with. Chitah have venom in their teeth when all 4 incisors bite a Mage, they die. But if only 3 or less go in it just paralyzes the Mage for a window of time. Chitah also revere women, they would NEVER harm a female, it goes against their very nature. Chitah have specific customs as well. Which I love. Logan in some ways makes me think of Curran from Kate Daniels. (If you haven't read Magic Bites you really should.)

Logan charms his way inside. Eats the food that Silver made and claims to be a babysitter friend of Justus's. None of this sets off Silver's alarm bells. Is she TSTL? Not always. But she can lean that way. She's also brave too. Anyways it takes her a while to figure out that Logan isn't her friend or Justus's friend. But not because Logan rubs his scent ALL OVER SILVER'S BED. I felt that was important for some reason. And then gets kidnapped.

Eventually we get the name of the Benefactor. His name is Things kick up from here.

I enjoy Logan and Silver's budding possible relationship. See, while Adam could be a love interest neither has really fought for the other, or specifically claimed feelings for the other. Adam gets jelly of Silver giving Logan affection, but to me it's kinda stupid. You can't get pissy at Silver for moving on, when you won't try to chase her. Logan is her match, and she seems to be his.

I'm over Silver's know it all attitude. Her jumping off without thinking. I hope she can learn this further.

We are introduced to some new Breed species and learn some more of their customs as well.

I still really enjoyed the book and look forward to re-reading the next one.

First Review.
We leave off where the last book ended and we finally get to meet Logan who my friends have mentioned in their reviews. This book is about finding out who the benefactor is the person who was not so nice to Silver and where or what might be going on with him. The only thing I did not like about this book was that it ended kind of randomly to me I just wish you had a more precise point of ending. However I am slightly OK with it because I know that there is going to be another book.

Twist by Dannika Dark was an exciting, glorious ride. It took everything I love about urban fantasy and it DELIVERED! The evolution of the protagonist makes me so happy. So often we read about super confident, sassy, strong, ultra- independent heroines, or perhaps delicate hothouse flowers that need an alpha male to keep them, with no BALANCE between the two archetypes. I love reading about a character who is discovering who she is, outside of being defined by a relationship, race, power, or Breed. Silver's strength is not gained by subduing men twice her size, or from what lays between her thighs, or runs through her veins. Her strength lies in how she thinks, her courage, compassion, burgeoning self-confidence, and the loyalty she inspires in those around her (though part of that is probably because they think she is hot). Speaking of those around her, I love love, LOVE Logan, and though at first this arrogant interloper caused me to fear the worst (not sure if I can stand another love triangle or quadrilateral), I love what his character represents for Silver. One thing is for certain, I want more characters like Dannika Dark's Silver on my bookshelf!!

When you think of these as just paranormal romances and shake off all of your expectations of the female lead being heroic, then these don’t suck.

All of these (two so far) books make this build-up of Zoe/Silver as this exceptional mage/warrior.
* Born during lightening storm on flight
* conducted static electricity before changed

Silver is (thankfully) less of a damsel/victim in this book. But she still needs rescuing plenty.
She huffs and tantrums about being included and being part of the action. Then when she is in the action, she is neither a competent mage nor fighter and has to bluster until Logan shows up to save her. Over and over.

The men in this book are all pretty chauvinist, even when being nice.
Women should be guarded.
Women don’t work.
Women aren’t useful.
Silver chafes at this, but again....damsel.

Recommended as filler only.

Silver is continuing her training as a learner but isn't quite ready to give up her past life. Justus and Simon continue their search for the mysterious mage known as "the benefactor." In TWIST we get to know new characters, but more importantly, we learn more about the characters we have previously met. I am enjoying the balance of suspense, comradery, and romance that Dark delivers.

Dark introduces two new types of Breed. A Chitah and a Wolf Shifter. Logan Cross is the Chitah who has cat-like abilities wth speed, senses, and strength. They are feared by Mage for their ability to kill or paralyze them. Silver's introduction to Logan is filled with danger and was central to the tale delivered in TWIST. Cross hates Mages, but Silver might just change his opinion. I was impressed at how Dark developed Logan and look forward to learning more about his abilities.

Dark continues to solidify the world she has created, given insight into its history, teaches and hierarchy. Justus, who doesn't like to be touched, is the perfect teacher for Silver and I devoured the little tidbits about this complex Mage. Adam, his mentor, and Simon are all present. We meet new characters who piqued my curiosity. Dark is assembling a motley crew of characters as they work together on taking down the benefactor. Their interaction from disagreements to teasing banter pulled me into their world.

While there is plenty of suspense and action scenes sprinkled throughout TWIST a developing romance is pushed to the forefront. As a treat, we also see a second romance that develops. These threads held my attention as much as the overall arc and current situation. We also get time to further develop friendships within this group. I absolutely adore Simon. He makes me laugh and Justus intrigues me. I actually thought he might be a romantic interest for Silver but have moved past that.

We see growth in Silver as Dark showcases her strength, compassion, and stubbornness. While she is still a learner she refuses to watch from the sidelines and does a fair job of handling all the testosterone surrounding her.

For me, TWIST, was stronger than STERLING, as Dark had to spend less time establishing the world and focused on the characters and different threads within the Mageri series. Fresh and action packed Dark created a world and characters I am anxious to revisit.

Nicole Poole continues to narrate as she does Dark's other series. I love both her female and male voices. I love when an author and narrate come together like this and couldn't imagine the series on audio without her. This review was originally posted at Caffeinated Book Reviewer

I was Sucked in by STERLING and now I'm Tortured by TWIST!!! These are the best to-date reads for 2012! I average about three books per week so that puts these at the head of an approximate seventy-six book pack, not bad! This is dark urban fantasy at its best and it reminds me of those terrific Stacia Kane books (Unholy Ghost Series) but without the high price tag! STERLING is only a buck and TWIST is $3! That's a heck of a lot of entertainment for the cost. I was on board when I stumbled across book one on the free promotional: cool cover, simple title, intriguing premise... promise of Alpha male types? Sign me up!

And boy, does Dark Deliver! This installment was slightly less dark than #1 and I liked it equally as well; the intrigue was laid on a tight wire, with the reader struggling to balance without teetering off. Unlike #1, there was no "valley" to slow down through. It was an all-mountain read, every chapter a peak of information, action and romantic tension. I was glad that some dudes took a back seat and others came forward. *Especially Logan* He's just... wow. Perfect flawed male that the MC resists. And I love how Silver is still evolving and there are questions that beg answering. I'm content, when there is a series I'm committed to, waiting until the secrets are revealed in a tantalizing bread crumb format. Dark does this expertly, giving just enough detail to engage but without giving away the whole tamale. Love her style. I hope she writes until forever.

Silver is taken again by a new Breed and struggles with his sudden place in her life. Forbidden to be anything more than enemies with him, she soon sees that although not Mage, he is a male of value, one even rivaling Justus. She's confused, hurt and wants desperately to have a more active role in a society that is overprotective of their rare females. Always Silver struggles with why she was chosen, why her old life no longer exists. She begins to cope and then circumstances rise out of the ashes to throw her off-center again.

This is a compelling read with wonderful and unique descriptive narrative. There were passages I re-read to more fully take in the depth of their meaning and nuances presented. Dark is awesome at using the supporting characters in the book, fleshing them out and giving each one individuality. You always know who is whom and she leaves no stone unturned in the unveiling of each person's role in the installment. Can't wait for more!

6 stars!

This book irritated the SNOT out of me. Honestly. There are many, MANY too stupid to live (TSTL) heroines out there, but I PROMISE you, none are more TSTL than Silver. And the guys she has looking out for her.

At least in this one, all the characters are together and there is not a lot of jumping from here to there and around the bend. The cast of characters is *mostly* established, and so we have a decent plot.

BUT. Oh. My. Gawd. How many times does Silver run off by herself (and always ALWAYS get herself in trouble!) before she starts thinking that it is a very bad idea. And, how many times do the guys around her BELIEVE she will NOT run off by herself, before they step in and prevent it? I don't remember EVER reading another heroine who is so incredibly stupid that she does the SAME STUPID THING over and OVER again. Usually, they at least find new stupid things to do.

Unfortunately, I DO like the characters and the world and I am very invested in the plot line of Nero. So, I'm quite likely to finish the series. But, I sure hope the intelligence quotient goes up . . . it terrifies me to think it might go down!

2.5 stars that I've rounded to 3 . . . because I DID move right into book 3.

Dear Ms. Dannika Dark,

You have just earned a fan. Twist, I must say, you did it again. I loved this book. Loved a few new characters. Loved that you incorporated the old characters. On my way to Book 3. Do me a favor, I need you to finish Book Number 4 like right now! I am immersed in this world of Mageri. I can't get enough. Silver is awesome. Didn't think I would like Logan, but he is a Knock your Socks off bad boy! He can sit on me anytime. Simon and Silver keep me laughing. Love the new character Finn. I think I want to live in Cognito. I definitely recommend this series. It's just, right!

Sincerely,

your new Fan! :DD

I liked this book better than the first one. I considered it took more direction and fleshed out the characters a bit more. Although the main character comes across as often careless, and doesn't seem to experience any real trauma or damage from here encounters (which frankly is pretty damn amazing), it does establish her as having strength of character as well as impulsive rather than being as stupid as a whale omelette.

I liked the story and will be steaming ahead to the next one pretty soon, although I will say I'm a bit pensive about this series turning into a love triangle and a soap opera.

Wow this was Brilliant.. i can really see the story developing with new very interesting types of characters...

The world created is suspenseful and riveting, i love silver and her slow reluctance accepting Logan.

This book has silver facing her enemy head on with new drool worthy allies, Unfortunately she still seeks closure but have books galore yet to read so im sure some rocks will be upturned soon!

I do find Silvers acceptance of her situation a little weird... But then who am i to Judge its never happened to me... still great read!

I'm really enjoying revisiting this series.

*****************

Sooooo good!

Oh, Ms. Dark! How I love your stories! Twist is such an amazing blend of action, suspense, an introduction to different Breed, and *sigh* romance, that I had to force myself to put the book down and do things that needed doing. ;)

Silver's life has settled down a bit now that the threat Samil posed has been neutralized. But Justus and Simon are still on the trail of 'the benefactor', and when Silver decides to help, things don't stay calm for long. Then there is the appearance of Logan Cross and he really heats things up.

Ms. Dark did a phenomenal job at weaving in new characters, new plot threads, and a whole lot of action into the overarching plot. It was exciting learning more about Breed and the Breed world - their customs and laws. And I like that Ms. Dark seems to be making a social statement about acceptance and tolerance - something I'm eager to see developed further as the series progresses.

Ms. Dark also deftly creates rich and complex characters. Silver is a kickass heroine whom I adore. She's flawed but has a heart of gold and a sassy mouth. Justus is the perfect mentor for Silver and I know he'd do anything for her. I do hope we get more insight into his aversion to any kindness shown to him from those he cares for. Simon keeps me in stitches but I know there's deeper layers to him as well and although he's not a central character, I hope to dig a little deeper with him as well. Adam will always hold a special place in my heart for having taken dare of Silver when she was most vulnerable. He irritated me at times but I understood the intentions behind his actions...usually. I'm grateful that he's still in Silver's life. And that brings me to Logan... Although the circumstances of their meeting were dubious, I agree with Silver in that he's a man of worth. I'd never have guessed I was such a sucker for chivalry but Logan proved just that. He stood by, behind, and in front of Silver when warranted, and he won me over.

The action in Twist put Silver and company closer to capturing 'the benefactor' but there were setbacks. It all involved some white-knuckling and I was happy that everyone survived. I'm eager to see 'the benefactor' get his due but appreciated Justus' advice to Silver not to let vengeance rule your life. That's a good lesson.

I'm anxious to continue with Silver as she learns more life lessons in her new world as a Mage. I feel a binge coming on...

I'm very, very, very smitten with the world Dannika Dark has created here. It's a world that fits the story perfectly. It's dark and brutal and yet it has this core of beauty in it all at the same time. Silver has the potential to do such good and there's so much for her to experience in this new life, yet this ugly underbelly keeps busting in and sticking their dirty fingers where they aren't wanted.

I was iffy on another man being introduced into Silver's story. I *liked* the ones already there and I thought "why does she need anyone else?" Well, I'm pleased to say that Logan Cross won me over BIG TIME. He's dark and deadly and somehow I think he's just what she needs to find her footing in this world.

Silver herself still does things that make me question where she's coming from. I get her need to find out who was behind her captivity in book 1 but it felt like she took unnecessary risks at times to get answers. On the other hand, she's staying true to character. She isn't going to sit back and do nothing when there's something to be done. She's willing to take risks to get the answers she needs. I admire that drive, I just didn't always agree with the secrecy she shrouded her actions in.

The cast of characters is fabulous (Knox made me melt a little), the introduction of Logan's race expanded the already impressive world, and Finn and his ilk intrigue me. Those who can appreciate excellent world building and like something a little off the beaten path will enjoy this series. As I said, I am SMITTEN with it.

This series just lost me. Here’s a woman who is sought for nefarious purposes. Her guardian, Justus, leaves her *alone* at home while he hunts the bad guy, who happens to be Justus’ creator and probably knows how to find him. A stranger shows up at the hidden underground bunker, and she LETS HIM IN WITHOUT A QUESTION. IDIOTIC. She just opens that door and invites him to dinner despite the fact that he gave her an opportunity to shut the door and verify his statement before coming inside. Then when she’s threatened, he offers to wait for her guardian, and she thinks, “No I can’t put Justus at risk.” What on earth??? Justus can handle himself. WAIT FOR BACKUP. DONT EVER GO ANYWHERE WITH SOMEONE. It’s like she has never had a care in the world and has never been afraid! Which is NOT the case for her. Whenever characters act OUT of character to make the story work, that’s called Contrived. I don’t have time for stupid characters. If you want to write a story about a powerful female, give her some common sense and save the cliches for regency romance novels.

Loved this book! I don't even know where to begin. If you read any of my other reviews, then you know I love witty characters and this book was full of them. Silver's sense of humor is great, especially when you consider all the crap abuse she's gone through. She's a strong character that is growing stronger and is determined not to let anyone rule her life or bring her down. (and there is a lot of that going on)
The love triangle simmered down a lot and mostly everyone found their place with Silver. One became a father figure and two a friend, but a new guy was introduced and I don't understand why, but Silver fell for him.
I liked that other people were reintroduced into Silver's new life. That was a nice touch. Also, there were more POV's, which was cool.

I am definitely a Dannika fan now and will be reading more of her books in the future. Can't wait for the next one in this series!!!

“I LOVED the first book, loved the attitude and snark. Book 2 seems to have been toned down a little, and I missed that, BUT, the Alpha maleness went up about 10 points with the addition of another guy looking out for Silver, talk about romantic tension! Thankfully, it did not go the way of Anita Blake, (who I do love, too). Instead, Silver is surrounded by those who are looking out for her best interest, whether they win her affections, or not, awesome!

Silver is coming into her own, opening up to accepting help, reconnecting with her best friend, finding new allies and kicking some bad guy butt...great read!”

Amazing storyline! Twist turns and rolls so quickly that you don't have time to catch your breath. I was a little disappointed that Justus didn't play a bigger part (I have a thing for this guy) and I missed the "training sessions" with Silver. BUT... oh my......... Logan is a great character to introduce to Silver's life. I can't say much without giving away the story, but there are new characters, characters that we met in the first book come back, and all kinds of delicious scenarios. OH! And someone from Silver's past comes to visit.

Well, that escalated quickly. From kidnapper to lover in 0.6 seconds. Don't worry Dark pulls it off. This book and series are great. I can now see why two of my closest book pals are Dark fans!!!
DD4Life and all that jazz.
