Tristan's Loins

Rate this book
Aspiring author, Selene Weston didn't have a clue about how to write a romance novel. She created Tristan de Montfort, a twelfth century hero who embodied everything she felt important in a man. Something makes Tristan real. Soon,he is jumping out of the pages and rewriting his own destiny from her desktop. He isn't happy with his snooty heroine, or the happy ending Selene has planned.

Karolyn Cairns is a single mother of 14 yr old twins. She lives in sunny Florida. She spends a lot of time sitting in the sun thinking about that next great book. When she's not making up stories, she spends a lot of time working in the garden. She's back to work writing after some time off. Its been a great year.
She just wrapped up The Libertine's Wife, a historical romance. I would warn you right away that the hero in this book lives his life by a philosophy and set of rules most women would find disagreeable. We make NO apologies for Garret. He won't apologize, so why should we? A new historical romance titled A Viking's Love, is also available now. She is currently working on books three to 'The Wicked Series' and 'The Lost Tribe Series'. 'A Wicked Arrangement' is in the works, and 'Fangs', both due out in the spring.
Karolyn enjoys reviews and comments from readers. She thanks you for all your encouragement.

The book started out really well - super humorous, not taking itself too seriously - which is a good thing, because the whole plot line is crazy & laughable...

An author is writing a romance novel when suddenly her main character comes to life... The whole thing took a nosedive as the novel started to get too serious. If the book had stayed light-hearted and humorous, the entire strolling would have benefitted.

The errors also affected my enjoyment..
Lots of contraction issues and redundancy.

I was pleasantly surprised. This was an enjoyable read. I will point out that it is NOT erotica, despite the unfortunate title.

It started good and with humour ,then it went downhill fast. The writing became from engaging to boring and it was much telling not showing. The dialogues were superficial and useless not adding to the characters development and depth. The story itself was a good idea but the execution was a disappointment and hold no poignancy. Strange enough as it was short ,this felt a very long read so I had to skim at the end.

I was intrigued by the plot and found the book to be quite good overall. However, I must in all honesty say, that I agree whole-heartedly with some of the previous reviews.

First off, the title is awful and does nothing for the actual story, giving the impression that you are about to read a sexually explicit erotic tale which is not the case. I found the sexual encounters between characters to be tastefully executed, not too overtly graphic, and kept in line within the flow of the book. Don’t get me wrong, it did get hot at times but I still wouldn’t classify it as anything other than a romance despite what the title suggests. Even if you disregard the erotic implication in the title, it still has little to do with the actual story. This book doesn’t revolve around “Tristan’s Loins”. I would say that it’s more about Selene finding true love than Tristan’s raging hard on, or need to get off.

Feeling engaged in the story was slow for me in the beginning. The author gives ample detail setting up the foundation before diving in to the heart of it. Without it, the story would seem flat. Enabling me to begin to feel for the characters and understand where they were coming from made all the difference. By the middle of the story, I was totally invested in the outcome and couldn’t seem to put my nook down.

The only thing other than the title that really bothered me is the obvious editing mistakes. With as good as the story was, I unfortunately found myself wishing I could take a red pen to it and return it to the author for corrections. The most obvious thing for me was that the dialog was almost completely devoid of contractions. I can understand Tristan not using them, as he was from the twelfth-century, prior to the beginning of the use of contractions in the spoken language. However, there is no excuse for all of the modern day characters running around saying: cannot, will not, and the like. Unless speaking in a heated or assertive manner, most people use contractions when speaking. It made the few that were used stand out instead of blending in. If it weren’t for those few, I would almost swear that the author used grammar check on their word processor and just allowed it to correct every mistake found.

Despite my issues with the book, I would still recommend reading it. This isn’t one I would add to the reread shelf, but it was enjoyable and worth it the first time around.

I have to say...I thought the story was boring in the beginning. But once you got pass the foundation work of the book the story really opened up. I love the romance and drama. Her friends seemed like friends in real life, selfish yet true. Tristan was WOW...just made me melt with all the love and attention. Would love to read more of these two and there adventure in life. Great book!

Aside from my HATING the title, and the NUMEROUS errors, I have to say that I LOVED the plot! It was a quick read, and I caught myself laughing out loud a couple times. On the whole it was a pretty good story, but as a fanatic about spelling/ punctuation errors it drove me crazy!!!!! If not for the errors, I would probably rank this at a 4 or 5 star.

Good story. Good characters. Slow start & I found myself skipping large chunks of text as the author developed secondary characters & inconsequential sub-plots. But the premise was beautifully written & the ending was a tearful happy ever after. :)

Selene starts out writing a novel with an Medevil Englishlord she names Tristan. Who somehow becomes real with the help of a magical ring. Selene has to teach Tristan to have fun and all about the modern world. They both fall in love.

One of my favorites from her. Most of her other books can be like a soap opera with som many things going on,and not in a bad way either. But this book was really good. I have read it more than a few times.
