Dark Eden #1.5

Phantom File

Rate this book
Will Besting and six other teens were cured of their phobias at Fort Eden by the mysterious—and often quietly terrifying—Rainsford. But while the cure took away their phobias, it left them with other headaches, loss of hearing, fatigue. It also left Will with an intense need to know more about their supposed savior and his twisted methods. Now Will has discovered a file he was never supposed to see, and the story contained within involves characters he never expected to see together. What will the phantom file reveal about Rainsford's ghoulish ways?

With a contemporary nod to classic horror, Patrick Carman's Dark Phantom File takes readers on a journey to discover the origins of a madman's reign—and of fear itself.

I have been a lifelong writer and storyteller. Salem, Oregon is where I spent my formative years and I graduated from Willamette University. After college, I spent a decade living in Portland, Oregon where I worked in advertising, game design, and technology.

I've written young adult and children's books for Scholastic, Little Brown Books For Young Readers and Katherine Tegen Books/ HarperCollins Publishers.

I've been fortunate enough to have had some bestselling series work: The Land of Elyon, Atherton, Elliot’s Park, 39 Clues, and Skeleton Creek. Here's a fun note...the books have been translated into approximately two dozen languages. Currently I'm developing a few new-media projects. Check out DARK EDEN to experience this type of cross-platform project.

When I'm not writing or creating a story, I spend my free time supporting literacy campaigns and community organizations, fly fishing, playing basketball and tennis, doing crosswords, watching movies, dabbling in video games, reading (lots), and (more than anything else) spending time with my wife and two daughters.

In the daring 2nd book(or 1.5) of the Dark Eden series, most of the kids now have been cured but are suffering side effects and other ailments except for Will, the main character feels there is something wrong here and sneaks away into a room and stayed there for a while, discovering the truth about this facility in a secret file. What he doesn't know is he might have just walked into a trap.

I LOVED Carman for writing this! He filled in some gaps and answered a lot of our questions and gave us so much more background and info. I can't wait until I finish reading Dark Eden 2 (which I had to pick up RIGHT after reading this, I was so hooked, and can explore some of the websites and extra goodies for the book.) If you read Dark Eden, read this right after! Don't miss it, only 99 cents on Amazon and SO worth the quick read - this coming from someone who NEVER buys these extra short stories that seem so popular nowadays for series. JUST DOOO IT! :D

This is a short ebook set between the first book and the second. I thought that it was a nice bridge between them. It gave interesting background to some of the characters.

A super quick and interesting read. It gives more insight on some of the characters from Dark Eden. There is a story inside a story inside a story inside a story.
