Can she even trust herself? Find out in Neeley Bratcher’s first novel, Childs’ Proof!
I am a HUGE paranormal fiction reader and I was surprised how little I missed it in this book. I loved the Victoria's internal dialog, it had me LOLing a lot. The book was like watching a really good crime show on TV except it was in my head. It is a wonderful start to a new series, I recommend giving this a read.
I really enjoyed the humor in this book. Vic is a hoot and her 'Angel' is quite the hottie. And when these two hook up,wow! Although I admit there were a few times she was so pig-headed that I wanted to yell @ her to grow up,she did end up saving the day. I look forward to 'The Beginning'.
Loved it, Loved it, Loved it! So proud of her to go out on her own and start something spectacular! Can't wait for the next Childs' book so we can continue her awesome story!
Child’s Proof by Neeley Bratcher A Victoria Childs' Novel #1 Victoria Childs is a witty young woman who’s life sucks a bit. She has a boss who lives to irritate and paw people. A best friend who’s so sexy that guys notice Toni and Vic becomes invisible. Not to mention the men she does catch seem to have serious issues, like being married, insane or criminals. On top of everything else the poor girl finds herself craving KFC only to have forgotten her purse at work. Could things get much worse than that? For someone like Vic? Yup. Going back for her purse ends her in more trouble than she could ever imagine. One good thing out of it is the handsome Detective Jason Varner.
Follow the humorous escapades of Vic as she fights vending machines, crazy bosses and her hormones. The story is written from Vic’s whimsical point of view. Follow this petite firecracker as her life goes from boring and tedious to running from danger while trying to hold onto her heart. Childs’ Abduction continues the story of Vic’s new and improved life and career, but the girl is a magnet for trouble, a high powered magnet. **Sexual content and language http://justjudysjumbles.blogspot.com/...
It's a romance story where a girl involved in a murder falls for the hot detective and with a plot like that, it's easy to see where the two will end up.
I really love the humor in the story and the dialogue is witty and cute. I just felt that some of the scenes needed to be extended to have more of an impact. It would switch from one scene to another and there wasn't enough of a description to elevate the character's emotion or even flesh out the characters' thoughts to give the reader a clue to why they did what they did. Also there needed to be more of a variety to "he said", "he laughed", etc. I felt like I read "He laughed." a lot.
The characters themselves do have a mind of their own. While some of the conflicts seems silly to me, considering the murder case is more important, I like how they eventually make up in the end. I also like how some scenes felt real. It described the main girl's panic attacks very vividly.
I love the story and it's unique since I've never read something like this character before. I do feel like the first chapter should've been Chapter 2 to just dive into the action but that's just my opinion.
Child's Proof is written well and makes you laugh.
I enjoyed the humor, the characters were likable, and the action and romance made it easy to keep on ready. I enjoyed the arguments. I think well played argument scenes in a book can truly bring out the characters and feelings they have either about themselves or the other characters. Prompts to the author.
There are a few things that didn't quite fall in to place smoothly though. The police investigation/procedures could have been more precise. I think a little more investigative work in this area would have made Varner an even stronger character.
From what I can tell, it looks this is the author's first book. So this is a really good first book. There aren't really any qualities of the book to put you off. It's a good read with both limited strong language or explicit sex. So if this is what your looking for, you may not find this to your liking. But I say give it a try anyway. You won't be disappointed.
When I laughed out loud three times in the first chapter I knew I was going to like Neely’s style of writing. This book reminds me a little of a Janet Evanovich, Stephanie Plum book but better. The humor and romance is there but it’s written in a smarter fashion. The main character Vic has such spunk and is written as a confident woman, which I adore in a book female lead. Jason the male lead, swoon. Is there anything better than a true and handsome southern gentleman? Oh did I mention he is also a bit of an alpha male with strong protective tendencies and full of stubbornness?
There isn’t much strong language or graphic sex so I would consider Child’s Proof is more thriller than romance. Yes Vic and Jason are hot and hot for one another, but that’s not really what draws you into this read but rather enhances it.
For me this book was ok but not that great. Not my style I guess I would have to say it had its good points but I guess I couldn't really get into it all that much. The author did a wonderful job with writing her story, just wasn't my cup of tea. I wish her luck in her writing career but I most likely will not read anything of hers again but who knows.
This story has a lot to offer, it's got a realistic heroine with fears, doubts, and strengths; She is not perfect. It also has a hunky man and great chemistry between the two characters. This book is really good at keeping ones attention.
If you want a good read that will keep you engaged then you should really try this book out, I may not have loved the book but that doesn't mean it was not good just means that it didn't have what I was looking for.
Victoria Childs hates her job at the Clerks office. One day due to her forgetfulness she finds herself the only witness to a murder and suddenly shes a suspect/witness and her life is out of her control. If you're looking for a book with a story that grabs you and sucks you in this one is for you . The characters are fun, sweet and sparks fly when Dectective Varner hits the scene. If you enjoy books by Gemma Halliday you will definitley enjoy this series by Neeley Bratcher! Don't miss this fun filled comedic murder mystery it's so worth reading and I know I was unable to put in down until the end then had to buy the second book. Hope you enjoy it, I surely did :)
A funny read...I got a little lost a time or to with Vic inner ramblings...but my brain works kinda the same way. There were lots of twists and turns in this book!!! A true who did it the whole way threw. I was glad she decided to leave a job she wasn't interested in but I got frustrated with her that she felt she could just step in and be a ditective, and then how mad Jason got when she kept doing that even after he had used her help! But It did leave me interested enough to want to check out book 2.
I liked this book. The plot and romance aspect were well written. I did have some issues with Victoria's character. Her actions ran hot and cold and she didn't seem very consistent. The ending was great, if unrealistic, and I am looking forward to reading the next book.
I didn't pay enough attention to what I was buying -- thought it was a mystery, when it was really just all about sexual desire. Won't be buying this author again.
