V #1-5

V: A Vic and Matt Series

Rate this book
The sudden appearance of superpowers might transform most mild-mannered men into egomaniacs with visions of grandeur. Fortunately, Vic Braunson isn’t most men. His powers come from his lover, Matt diLorenzo, and Vic refuses to let the abilities control or change him.

But even he can't stop the powers from enhancing who he is. These five stories explore different aspects of Vic's personality that are brought out by his superpowers.

The V in Valor —When the landlady’s cat gets loose, Matt broaches the subject of getting a pet. Vic doesn’t want the added responsibility, but the discussion raises questions of long-term commitment neither man is ready to address.

The V in Vengeance—Vic and Matt adjust to life with a new addition—Sadie, the mutt Vic rescued. Matt finds himself dwelling on a more outward way to show the world how he feels for Vic. Though living with a superhero isn’t always easy, Matt wouldn’t have it any other way. Especially when his car is vandalized…

The V in Vigilant—When Vic has a rough day at work, his lover Matt puts their telepathic connection to good use, tapping directly into Vic’s needs. However, their sensual massage turns to serious talk, and Matt pops the question.

The V in Virtue—From the beginning of their relationship, Vic and Matt have celebrated their anniversary on New Year’s Eve. It’s become tradition for the men to swear off intercourse for the week before, a long stretch Matt finds especially difficult to weather. Vic’s blasé attitude about their lack of sex only makes Matt hornier.

The V in Vulnerable—Matt is on a quest to find the perfect ring to symbolize the love he shares with Vic. But criminals strike the jewelry store Matt visits. When the police arrive, what started as a simple robbery quickly turns into a hostage situation. Officer Kendra Jones places a call to the one man she knows will be able to help. Vic.

3.5 rounded up -- nice job showing Matt and Vic's relationship development in these short stories. And the hot sex doesn't hurt either!

I received this book through Goodreads, First-reads.

Vic Braunson isn't your average superhero, he didn't get his powers from an alien ring or radioactive spider, he gets his powers from his lover, Matt DiLorenzo. With these extra gifts, Vic finds himself struggling a bit to keep his powers in check and continue to lead a normal life.

First let me say that I absolutely love the premise of this book. The fact that Vic relies so much on Matt to gift him with his superhuman abilities is something I never saw before, and it makes their relationship so much stronger. Another thing I love is that the only abilities that stay with Vic no matter what are his super strength, and his connection to Matt; everything else is a roulette, his extra abilities changing every time he and Matt make love. What's more is, Vic doesn't always end up with an awesome power, and he has to learn how to cope with them just to function in his day-to-day life. It's about time a superhero had to cope with trying to live a normal life while trying not to float away because of a weird levitating ability.

As the title declares, this book is a collection of five stories within the same series, following the antics of Vic and Matt. It reads as though you would find each story as a stand alone copy, much like a comic book series. At the beginning of each story they review the reader about everything that has been going on in a brief summary: from how Vic gets his abilities to the deep feelings of love these men share for each other, and it always flows into the story at hand so it's never cut and paste. Though it did get a bit tiresome for me to constantly be reminded of all this when I had all five stories back to back. A very minor annoyance that didn't really hinder my reading experience.

The stories themselves have a very good mix of steamy erotica between the lovers, their daily lives (going to work, spending time together, managing new abilities) and always a problem for Vic to fix with the aid of whichever ability he had in that story. I witnessed very few spelling/grammar errors throughout the book, and when I did, they were very small and didn't hinder my reading either.

I recommend this book to anyone with an interest in superheroes and M/M erotica.
