Being raised in a two-family household is almost unheard of in African American neighborhoods but for Jason it was normal, at least until he witnessed the brutal murder of his father one ill-fated night that changed the course of his life forever. The death of his father exposed him to a plethora of emotions and threatened to uncover a dark secret that had been hidden from his mother. Before his death, Jason's father knew his son was a very timid boy and had went to great lengths to protect his secret. Jason knew early on he was different too because he always seemed to be singled out and bullied in school. His mother Paula never noticed because her obsession was focused on his academics to ensure his success in life. She sheltered him from anything she felt would hinder him from becoming successful, including her husband's family who she thought were coarse and ill-mannered. After his father's death, Jason reunited with his Uncle Rick. Rick made a promise to his brother that he would protect his son, so he took Jason under his wing. Rick tried to give him a crash course in the school of hard knocks because he came from the same beginnings and now owned an illegal gambling den and distributed large quantity of drugs. Jason didn't show interest in any of the things Rick exposed him to except the trip to the strip club where he met a beautiful stripper named Magic. Magic is a stripper who is in a physically abusive relationship, searching for a way out for her and her son. When she meets Jason and realizes he's a virgin, she instantly wants to use him as her way up and out of the hood. Jason falls for her hard, despite Rick's street guidance and is sucked into her clutches. When he is almost killed by her estranged boyfriend and ends up in the hospital, Paula meets Magic and is dead set against their union and voices her resentment in hopes Jason takes heed to her words before he leaves for college. Jason pledges his love for her instead and promises he'll continue seeing her no matter what. Adjusting to college life is difficult for Jason but when he is violently assaulted in his dorm room he finally realizes he cannot hide from being victimized and goes to his uncle Rick for help. Rick is only too happy to help him and glad his nephew is finally hitting back. While Jason is away a college Paula experiences loneliness and finds solace with Louis, a younger man who seems romantically interested in her. He breaks down her rigid exterior and she soon becomes more relax and enjoys life more with him. Their relationship grows and she finds herself in love but is apprehensive in telling Jason about it since he hadn't seen her with a man since the death of his father. Jason accepts Paula's and Louis' relationship and when he gets a unexpected financial windfall he immediately plans on taking Magic out of the hood to share in his wealth. He insists on telling his mother what he's planning even though Magic thinks it's a bad idea. He decides to tell Paula on his birthday but a secret is revealed that ruins the night for everyone. When Jason goes home he is bombarded by another devastating secret that threatens to kill his relationship with Magic and he is forced to deal with it. In the end, the Buchanan's secret is revealed and the whole family, Paula, Rick and Jason must come together to make sure the secret never gets out.
June first discovered his love of writing in public school where he dazzled his teachers with his creative short stories and intriguing poems. His writing was acknowledged locally when it was featured in his graduating class yearbook. He abandoned his love for writing for the dangerous life on the streets of Brooklyn. His involvement changed from petty crimes to becoming a major distributor of illegal drugs out of state. During his tenure in these activities he was convicted and incarcerated. His time behind bars gave him new insight but when released on parole he went right back to the life that put him behind the barbed wire fences. here was no stability in his life and the only person he was responsible for was himself but the birth of his first daughter changed the way he viewed life and he set out to change his existence. June enrolled into college to pursue his Degree where his creative writing ability was again showcased in this setting and recognized by his English professors. While pursuing his degree, tragedy struck and one of his closest friends was brutally murdered. Not knowing how to deal with the loss he channeled his pain into something that came to him naturally, he wrote the story. June began penning his novel This Game Has No Loyalty and incorporated his own experiences into his writing to produce the “realness” his story needed to capture his audience. He created his publishing company, FourShadough Publishing to self publish his body of written work. In 2013 he was discovered by Ashley & JaQuavis and offered a spot on as a signed author to their new publishing company O.W.L.- Official Writers League. His title International Regime is scheduled to be released 2014-2015. June is currently penning the follow up to his This Game Has No Loyalty Series.
What an amazing story!!!!!! June your writing is EPIC. I had no idea until the very end. Yes I assumed it was the Uncle. Louis knew what he was doing after Paula explained about the death of Ronald. I'm trying not to spoil anything for the next reader but The Buchanan's Secret was awesome. You have to read it to understand my excitement. I wish I had more stars to give. #Owl500
Jason is`soft as a marshmallow', that statement in the book was so true. LoL. He never even attempted to fight back, he just ran or got beat up. Thank goodness for his street smart uncle, Rick. His mom Paula definitely made him a `momma's boys' but as a parent myself I understand her need of wanting to protect him after his father's murder. After meeting Magic and having a sexual encounter with her, her friend and his uncle Jason falls madly in love and starts planning a life with her. Not wanting to give any spoilers, I will say this...........the plot was totally unexpected and put a really good twist on the story. I give it 5 stars
In this novel Author June Miller shows that he is a versatile writer with some range. It was nice to see more in the arsenal then just Junior, Sandra and Muffin, the characters from "This Game Has No Loyalty" series. I have to say there was no disappointment in this book and only one aspect of the novel was predictable, while the rest was a total shock.
Jason Buchanan is the perfect example of wanting better for your kids than you’ve had.. Jason is the apple of his mother’s eye. While his father wants to show him the ropes, his mom wants him to have no streets smarts, leading to Jason having a very sheltered life. What kind of social life does the geeky kid have? Flip the pages to find out. I really love the Uncle Rick; he added flavor to the novel that was needed. Jason's mom Paula loved to put on airs. Although she grew up poor, you would never hear those words come out her mouth. When tragedy strikes in this family will Jason be able to step up to the plate?
I enjoyed this novel and commend this author on dealing with a topic that is often swept under the rug in the African American community. Sorry can't say what it is as it spoil it for most. I look forward to seeing what is up next from this talented author.

This was the first book I have read by this author and all I can say is wow! I did not see this twist coming at all. I was so drawn into this story thinking I knew who was doing what until I did not see what was right before me! The weak and timid always look to that someone who will defend and enact a certain form of justice and revenge at those who are constantly victimizing them. Jason needed just that type of protection and boy did he get it! With a father who was a real G and an uncle who was a real beast, no one would have ever expected a son who was afraid of his shadow to be a part of the Buchanan legacy. Jason was smart, humble and cowardly, thanks to the over protection of his mother. To be honest, I actually wanted to crack his friggin ribs and tell him to man up, but thank the heavens he had a guardian that stepped in and fought his battles for him. I enjoyed this novel so much so that it's 5:58 am and I've just finished after staying all night to read it! Hand claps and kudos are in order to this author for this nicely told tale! I highly recommend you check this out! I will definitely be checking out his other work.
VICTIMIZED BY: June Miller 3*** 'Man Up or Man Down...'
Jason Buchanan watched his father being murdered in a random robbery on Thanksgiving Day. All of his life Jason finds himself paralyzed with fear each and every time he’s bullied and unable to defend his self or retaliate. Someone always has to defend him…someone else always has to come to his rescue. His mother wants him to pursue a better way of living and not live a life where he has to defend his honor.
But how long can one young man live the life of ‘the victim, being victimized all the time?’ What will it take for him to man up and take a stand? The storyline was on point with the title, the consistency was on point, but this was just a mediocre read. The finale proved to be a save and kept it from being a fail. 2.78
My actual rating is a 4.5* Only because I really didn't like Jason.
Where do I begin? This book was amazing! My only issue with it, is how much of a wuss the main character Jason is. For the past 2 days I have had to put this book down several times due to the rise in my anxiety levels. I am so thrilled that this book shows how June Miller has such a vividly imagination and a very wide range when it comes to his writing. I fell in love with his work while reading his series THIS GAME HAS NO LOYALTY and kinda expected something similar. I couldn't be more wrong!
The plot was well executed. The characters blended well with each other. All of them had something I could relate to. The ending alone was mind blowing! I swear I never saw that one coming. 2 thumbs up and a job well done Mr Miller :-)
I was a little turned off when I first started reading this book mainly bc the main character Jason was such a punk who refused to stand up for himself. I was so mad that he was just letting bad things and people come into his life and he refused to do anything about it. As I really started getting into it I could not put my kindle down. The twist in the story caught me completely off guard and my mouth was wide open all the way up to the end. This was a different book from my normal reads in that it combined urban fiction and thriller/mystery perfectly. I give Victimized 4.5 stars...a must read
The book, "Victimized-Buchanan's Secret" by June, focuses on main character Jason Buchanan who is viewed as an easy "victim" for robbery, bullying, assault, hate, usage and his inability to "fight-back"; including , a secret he holds. I found myself experience many emotions from compassion, fear, anger and screaming "Jason fight back"! Then, the Buchanan's secret surfaces and I am in total SHOCK!!! I never saw it coming. The storyline is excellent, well written, developed, supported and spell-binding. I am impressed with the author's writing! I highly recommend this book!! Five stars all the way!! Kudos for author June!
In the story Victimized, I thought Jason's weakness was a bit much. Throughout the book, I was hoping he would defend himself even if just a little. I felt his mother Paula did a great disservice by keeping Jason sheltered--so much he did not even notice Magic's game. Although Rick attempted to help him, Bunz was the one who kept him in check unbeknownst to his love ones. I was amazed to see how Louis reemerged in their lives so justice could be served. Standalone read.
