Review from Way Too Hot Books

Sommer Marsden is not new author for me. I've been walking around her books ever since I started to read erotica, especially BDSM novels. I am ashamed to admit that I have Learning to Drown on my e-reader for what it seems forever, but I always leave it for another time. When I saw Restless Spirit, I knew it would be something I might enjoy. And, boy, I did.

description

One girl and three boys. Adrian, Shepherd and Reed are archetypes of female sexual fantasies. Tuesday is woman we all secretly want to be sometimes - uninhibited, sensual, open and reckless. She returns home after getting out of abusive relationship and there she meet one old guy and two new guys. Now you think you got it all figured out, but do not rush. I had some ideas about what will happen, but I was surprised.

Is there any depth of story or is it just all about sex? Well, you will be happy to hear that you will get the whole package with Restless Spirit - emotions, intensity, insanely hot sex scenes and few lines that will make you think. How about few teasers?

The most perfect sound to me - a man coming undone. A man losing his tiny thread of control. A man who was now groaning loud, coming with me. Because he'd lost his hold of himself. Because of me.

***********

"I don't believe in perfect. I don't even think I buy that soul mate shit. But I do believe in connections. I do believe in energy recognizing compatible energy. I don't have a world for it... But I believe you can look at someone- maybe one someone in your whole life- and feel this instant..."
"Zap, I thought. Lightning."

But why did I give it three stars? No matter how much I enjoyed reading about Tuesday's encounters with alpha males, I still noticed that several things could have been better. For starters, Tuesday herself. All clenching and dripping and fluttering was a little bit too much sometimes. Other than that, I think suspense should have been given more importance. Few times I thought that there would be paranormal twist, but luckily, I was wrong.

If you are craving some hotness and need few hours away from dull, everyday life and responsibilities, Restless Spirit is perfect choice for you.

3.5 for the story and 4 stars for Shepherd
"You’re not damaged, Tuesday. You’re restless."

Tuesday Cane is going back, back to her Nan, problem is Nan’s not there, she waited too long to visit and now all that’s left is her memories, her home and everything else Nan left her. Her comfort is sex, she knows the damage that can happen when you care, when you start to feel. it's been a year since she left Phil as broken as he made her, but it’s all still too fresh. So in Allister Lake she hopes to get a fresh start, what she didn’t count on was three men
I had walked away from Phil and his bullshit and Stan and his cloying too-much-love. I did not want to care what Shepherd did or how Reed felt or that under it all I felt like I was shafting Adrian. I didn’t want all that sticky messy feeling shit. I just wanted sex. Was that so bad?

Tuesday has no problem giving into her body’s demands, it’s her own way of fighting her heart and mind, sex is simple, mindless and just exactly what she needs. After her parent’s death, the way her relationship with Phil turned out and Nan leaving her, it was all too much. She doesn’t want to belong to nobody, she doesn’t want to answer to anyone, no one owns her, she’s no one’s girl, but why is it that one man his found his way in
"You make me crazy," he said softly. "But I’m not putting any chains on you, Tuesday." He pulled back to look at me. "Except maybe the ones you ask for," he amended.

All three men, served a different purpose, Aiden , the “casual-sex-like-rabbits-since-I-arrived scenario Reed, “the pretty distraction” but Shepherd, he was different and it scared the shit out of her. “I wanted him to come and take care of me – and I hated myself for it.” All the men knew the score, knew where they stood with her, no matter how hard they try and change her mind, she’s relentless and wicked in getting what she wants. She needs to get her mind right, she needs to find out what she wants, she needs to see if her mind will ever catch up to her heart. On top of her three men, she couldn’t shake the feeling of being watched, seeing and hearing things she couldn’t prove, too prideful to ask for help, the only man she trusts is the one she so stubbornly refuses with her heart, but never her body.
"I’m grabbing you, Tuesday Cane. All you have to do is grab me back."

Seriously torn with this one, I really liked it but there were some things that bothered me. Tuesday was shameless, I get that, it was her way to deal, whatever, she did try and make some kind of effort to rein her whoremones. Her "need" was to the extreme, she was almost always horny. There was tons of sex, (sometimes repetitive) she always had to feed her greedy cunt. The buildup of her stalker was a nice a add in, But I felt like need some closure with some characters, I felt like it should have been dealt with a little bit more. Heck maybe I just wanted to see some cock fights or something…

But I LOVED Shepherd, god he was such a manly man and hot as fuck.
‘I know, baby. It’s the scariest thing I’ve felt in over a decade. But it’s there. And I’m man enough to admit it.’

Tuesday Cane wasn’t my favorite day of the week, even though I ended up liking her all the same. Our relationship proved a bit tumultuous at times, as she bounced between men with a slap happy insistence that caused my head to jerk about as frequently as a male teenager with ADD. She dialed 3825 (to copulate) so often that she must have had it preprogrammed into her phone at the top of her speed dial. And there was so much fucking and yanging the wang I wouldn’t have been surprised if my pages weren’t somehow lubricated.

RESTLESS SPIRIT could have been the name of a horse, or it could have been a metaphor for the way I felt as I devoured this book, the pages filling my fantasies six ways from Sunday, the days of the week flying by in epic and unexpected passion. The bare sex scenes heightened my senses to the point that I felt a part of the action, peering out of the bedroom closet with one eye focused on the prize, and There’s Something About Mary doesn’t have anything on the sticky hair scene contained in this novel.

Shepard Moore proved every bit as strong as Tuesday Cane, but I found Adrian and Reed Green a bit lacking in the strong and silent type department. Tuesday, however, proved plenty restless, and worked her way up and down the small town. If she didn’t hold a certain appeal that I can’t quite describe, her finger hovering over the eject button might have shown me the error of my ways, or caused a sad shake of my head. But if it’s all the same to you, I’ll relish the wanton abandon contained within these pages, even as the ending was projected on my flat screen well before we reached the finish line.

All in all a fine read if you’re into that will she or won’t she sort of thing, but not one I’ll probably revisit anytime soon.

I received this book for free through NetGalley.

This was the first book I have read from Sommer Marsden and it certainly wont be my last wow what a great read. Its now 3.35 am I have just finished this compelling read and had to get some comments down before I finally give into sleep.
Restless Spirit is an intense emotional journey which is well constructed and flows well within the 247 pages; an engrossing read from page 1.
I loved the main character Tuesday as she is so relateable, I loved her tough outer exterior with a hint of vulnerability and making her very believable. So fleeing to Allister Lake after inheriting her grandmothers house and escaping a bad break up we follow Tuesday as she suddenly finds herself the main interest of 3 super sexy men in a town where single women are like gold dust; each guy with quite different likeable personalities but she doesn't want that commitment right now.
I loved how she is sexually confident and knows what she wants and enjoys her sexual freedom with no awkwardness with these gorgeous guys; but can she choose between the charming rich Reed Green TV star and berry picking farmer. Or over-protective Aiden her loyal and heroic caretaker/handyman who she has had past history with. Or will she fall for the mysterious Shepherd Moore ex cage fighter.

She is drawn right from the start to Shepherd despite being warned off against him, and being so different from the men she's dated in the past. But she uses the other two guys just to satisfy her immediate needs, something I wanted to slap her for as she leads these 3 great guys on, all three that are falling for her; I was so relieved when she finally saw sense. Its a sign of a great writer that can get such a variety of emotions from us.
But after several very hot and steamy encounters with Shepherd, Tuesday gradually learns to shed her inhibitions with him and embrace her submissive side as he allows her to grow both as a person and sexually by pushing her boundaries further than she has ever gone.
I loved how Sommer creates intensity between all the characters and the sex scenes are frequent throughout the pages with each guy and is brilliantly written with alot of realism and some great sexual tension build-ups rather than immediate sex. There are a great variety of hot steamy sex scenes with each guy bringing something different to the plate so to speak; these are graphic well placed but not sleazy just super hot and very memorable.
But thats not it.........!
Along with a great storyline and super sexy scenes there is a mounting suspense story running parallel with the main storyline which escalates to a brilliant climatic twist which I wasn’t expecting. But I would have liked this to have been a bit longer being such a great twist and after such a long buildup throughout the book. I have to stress though it doesn't spoil anything its still an incredible read, great storylines with believable realistic characters and fantastic ending. Sommer knows people and knows how to keep us turning those pages.
I cant wait to read the next.

"Guilt is a wasted emotion. If you must entertain it, make it quick and get on with it."

OK so the more I think about it, the more I can't write this review properly without giving away who out of the three guys she ends up with so I am going to hide the rest of my review. However for me its pretty obvious from about 15-20% and that will be the only spoiler in the rest of my review. So if you are fine with knowing who feel free to read on.

This was a nice erotic romance, in that I felt it had the right amount of romance and sexy smut.

This book has a tonne of sex. I mean I read erotic novels a lot and my first thought after reading this was "well, that was a lot of sex." And not just run of mill romantic missionary sex, ooooh no, this is over a table, against a bookcase, steamy hot, holy shit yes, sex. Yep. I'm even giving this book a whole extra star simply for the imaginative and extremely well written sex scenes. The title does include "Erotic Novel" so it seems only fair to note the erotic content. *wink wink* amiright? However, don't brush this book off as a sex filled novel without much substance, there is a story line. Tuesday is the leading lady moving back to her home town in an attempt to start life anew after breaking up with an abusive boyfriend - cue self discovery theme track.

Considering I would give this story 3 stars without the wicked awesome sexy time here are my issues with "Restless Spirit." The relationship between Tuesday and her neighbor didn't seem to have much connection past the "spark" and Tuesday feeling safe with him. From their dialogue I didn't build a convincing emotional draw. While they kept telling each other they were broken I found myself scoffing a little because it came across as an excuse for them to keep their distance from everyone. I definitely believe they've been hurt and deeply affected by previous relationships but the whole "I'm broken and therefore can't commit" was slightly drama queen-esque. I think the truest words were spoken by Tuesday's deceased grandmother "the biggest obstacle is yourself." For the main characters, the only person saying they couldn't was themselves and thankfully they eventually realized it too.

I actually read the first 70 or so pages and that was it. I skipped to the Epilog just to find out who she ends up with. I agree with some of the other reviewers that Tuesday had no respect for herself at all and just gave it up way too easily. I mean going from one guy to another guy to another guy in one day? I mean come on! How horny can one girl be? She was a little too slutty for my tastes. I'm all for a girl being independent but this wasn't it. If there had been more of a story and less fucking, I might have given it 2 stars. I'm glad I got the book for free or would not be very happy.

Marsden wickedly crafts extremely sexy, graphic scenes that still manage to move the storyline along. Perhaps the trick lies in creating fully developed characters, ones that are multi-dimensional, flawed and still wholly appealing. For my full review, go to http://guiltyindulgencebookclub.blogs.... Mixed reviews: the first part of the book was a round robin of sex with each of those guys -- often all on the same day. But as she began to gravitate on one of them I thought the book got better. A mystery for the subplot, which turned out to be rather anticlimactic imho.

Not the best book I've ever read. The characters were memorable. My favorite character was Shepard (AKA: cage-fighter). I really didn't care for the main character Tuesday (AKA: whore). I really have no respect for someone who has sex with four different men within 24 hours of each-other. No matter what kind of messed up shit she had I just couldn't get on board with that kind of whore like stuff.

Still Shepard was by far my favorite man.

This was a ARC given by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review!

I guess my opinions on relationships effect my opinion of the book in general. I believe in monogamy in a relationship. IF there is any exclusions it will be because both people involved want a threesome (still not my taste but if both consent then to each their own) However I had a hard time digesting this story seeing as how she is plowing her way through several men in the town, and each are undeniably attracted and interested in her for different reasons. Unfortunately, they don't know that they are all one of many in her daily sex life for almost half this book and when they do find out they are given the impression she can be persuaded to like one better than the other. She is having multiple partners in a day, which qualifies her to be a possible sex addict I'd say.

I was team Shepherd throughout the book. I felt out of the three of them he had a mysterious unknown quality and secret about him. It was intriguing and i felt that he was the one that could most fulfilled and truly cared for Tuesday the way she deserved. I liked Adrian and respected their history but I don't feel like there was any serious connection they could have ignited and lasted on. What would have been between them, was long in their past. All they had was sex in the present and I didn't see that going any further. Reed in the beginning was a potential. I didn't care for his antics with Sheperds past ex, it left a sour taste in my mouth. I think that's why ultimately I pulled for Shepherd almost half of this book. On the topic of Shepard she kept referring to his hands as "meaty hands". I know she was basically saying they were thick and big sine he was a big tall guy. But every time I saw the phrase I cringed inside a little. Fortunately she didn't use the phrase too much.

I think I watch to many CSI and Criminal Minds because I figured out the shadow person around the house almost immediately. It irked me more that she noticed odd moving, shadows and light plays and not only did she NOT have anyone check it out. When Adrian came to check on things because he thought he saw something, she was down-right rude and unappreciative. On top of that she kept leaving her doors unlocked and would second-guess her leaving them open. Ditzy did not suite her.

I felt that the second half of this book was rushed. From her sorting out her feelings to the final outcome of the shadow person. She was still kissing someone outside of her relationship with Shepherd at 90%. I just had a hard time with her sudden realization and acceptance of her feelings in the last few pages of the book. I just didn't really feel it at all.

I like adult erotica as much as the next person, but even this book was a bit much for me. Yet, I rated it highly and continued to read it even while shaking my head and complaining about it to my husband and my co-worker. And I can't figure out why.

The writing was good and the scenes were steamy. The part that bothered me was that it wasn't like I was reading erotica - it's like I was reading porn. At one point, I felt like Joey and Chandler did in the episode of 'Friends' when they got free porn and finally had to turn the TV off because it was affecting their day to day life so much. I finally had to put the book down and step away because it was too much.

I then talked to my co-worker to make sure I wasn't crazy. I asked her if it was physically possible for a woman to have sex three times a day every single day for a week and she agreed with me that it was not. Tuesday would be so sore she wouldn't be able to walk. Yet, here she was ready, willing, and able, every time she turned around. Towards the end of the book she says, "It never seems to end - my lust for this man." Well, not just Shepherd, but any man who even so much as looked at her.

I wasn't bothered by the fact that she wanted to fool around with three different men - to each their own prerogative, but different men, same day, in the berry orchards, in the kitchen for all to see, on her grandmother's bed - it all seemed way too skanky. Then she was shocked near the end when someone called her a slut. Well, she is sleeping with multiple men, jumping around between them, practically flaunting it, dropping her pants on every single page - so yes, even I can get on board with the word slut.

Her "bad ass" attitude, wearing leather, and always making sure she put on motorcycle boots - even if she was just cleaning the house (who does this?) drove me crazy. Her refusal to commit to anyone because one man had broken her heart was too in your face - over and over it was thrown at you to remember that poor Tuesday had been beaten by her ex boyfriend.

The Phil / Stan / Annie thing was more mentioned to give the effect of a plot. There was no plot. There is no plot. Just sex. And yet, I'm still rating it a 4. What does that say about me?

Review:

First, I have to say I liked this book.

Now, I have to say this is a hard book for me to categorize...it is erotic romance with suspense added in.

What I like and dislike about this is that the Lead character, Tuesday is the Restless Spirit. I like that she is free spirited, strong, comfortable with her sexuality. What I do have a problem with is that even though Tuesday tells the men in her life that she does not want commitments I have a problem with her having sex with one then another. This did not interfere with me enjoying the story as a whole and I would totally recommend the book.

Tuesday has escaped from an abusive ex and moved into her Nan's home after she passes away. As she settles into life in the small town she gets reacquainted with the handyman caretaker, Adrian that she knew from her youth. She also meets Sheperd her neighbor and Reed former television star now farmer. Tuesday's sexual encounters with all three men are extremely sexy and sensual. But someone has been lurking around and the incidents escalate as Tuesday gets closer to one of the men, and yes, I am not going to tell you which one.

I loved reading Tuesday's journey through sensual and emotional discovery and highly recommend this book.

The prologue starts off super spicy and reeled me in. I realized quickly the heroine in our story is quite independent which I can appreciate. The first chapters are about Tuesday’s move to the little lake town. Her name is Tuesday Cane. I love the name Tuesday but initially when reading Cane after it all I could think of was it’s a stripper name. Anyway, I digress… She runs into an old flame Adrian, who happens to be the caretaker of her property, and immediately has sex with him for old time’s sake. Subsequently Tuesday meets her hunky neighbor Shepherd Moore and feels an instant attraction and possible connection. She messes around with him. Upon starting her new waitressing job, she encounters Reed Green, a former television star turned berry farmer. Guess what? Yes, she has sex with him too.

So at this point I’m thinking there’s a ton of hot sex going on but not a lot of story. Thank goodness I was wrong. After establishing her multitude of love affairs, Tuesday’s journey really begins. She has to figure out what she wants and if she’s willing to get it. She learns of her fears and whether she can overcome them to be truly happy. Ultimately she has to decide if she can conquer her past to create a future. It’s quite intriguing to watch her fight more with herself than with the men in her life.

There’s also a bit of a thriller underlying throughout. Unexplained feelings, lights, and shadowy figures add to the drama of narrative. Is this her grandma’s spirit, wild animals, being unsettled in a new life, or someone from her past?

There are subtle, and sometimes not so subtle, nuisances of domination and submission weaved throughout the story adding another layer of complexity. The story is erotic and emotional with a mysterious subplot. The resolution is satisfying without the need to make it a series. Good read.

I've not read many of Ms. Marsden's books, but as a reader who enjoys steamy reads, I found that what she's created meets all my steamy needs. From start to finish we're presented with three very different yet sexy and appealing men all trying to win the heart of mentally weakened through abuse by her ex, Tuesday Cane. This leads to numerous sexual interludes that become more and more intense as the story progresses.

Tuesday is a character that I both liked and was annoyed by. I admire her leaving her abusive ex and showing strength when her life is put at risk by a crazy stalker, but I felt she was using each of these men for almost the entire story by sleeping with all of them repeatedly. I know she's committment-phobic, but her actions lessened my favorable impression of her. Each of her suitors were appealing for a variety of reasons. Aidan was heroic, loyal, and protective. Reed was charming and carefree and could financially support her in comfort. Shepherd was mysterious yet understanding of Tuesday's dark needs since he's of the same mentality. He allowed her to be strong and never judged her. I can understand her dilemma considering how tempting all three of them are.

The issue with the stalker was subtly introduced with the perpetrator well concealed as the feelings of danger and paranoia believably escalated. His capture occurred quickly with this storyline wrapped up a bit too quickly and neatly.

The sexual encounters are what are most memorable upon completing this book. The scenes are varied and creative. They're super steamy with an intense build-up of sexual tension leading to a few scenes late in the story with heavier BDSM elements. This whole read felt like one big fantasy and I look forward to entering other fantasy worlds Ms. Marsden creates in the future and recommend you do to.

I have a new crush and her name is Sommer Marsden, I'm hoping it will turn into a life long live affair and based on this book I think it just might go the distance.
Tuesday Cane is my kind of girl. I loved uncovering a new life with her, I loved exploring her inner emotions with her and I loved finding contentment with her.  Tuesday is damaged but not irreversibly. Tuesday is her own worse enemy just floating through life not really engaging until she collides with the choice of  3 men....yes! 3 options .......oh poor poor Tuesday! (sarcasm font needed). Does she choose the man who smells like wood shavings, cold air and leather or the one that smells like sandalwood, roaring fire and snow or the one that Is tall and leanly muscled like a street fighter
I do have a confession...I did read the ending to see who she chose ....I had to....my favorite was made early on and I needed prepare my self if it wasn't him.
I found it refreshing that the character of Tuesday owned her sexuality....she was honest and up front about sex and was able to have sex without love or falling in love.  I also liked how it was sex with one of the three that in a way freed her to feel and build something of permanence. I liked how it was Tuesday 'choosing' which man, I liked how Tuesday was a survivor, I liked how Tuesday was never portrayed as a victim. In short I just liked Tuesday. For me the strength of this story lies with Tuesday...she is quite refreshing.

Just not feeling it, 84% done on Kindle. Love scenes feel a little mechanical. I don't like the whole sleeping around thing either, she's just too much of a starts with h ends with o.

The plot is ridiculous, the set-up (a town full of drop dead gorgeous guys, all without girls... in fact, there ARE no other available girls in this town it seems), its just like knock knock, who's there...any guy who comes to her door is fair game. Yuck. No romance, I don't like that.

Not particularly fond of the female protagonist (as you can see), or Shepherd, not my type I guess. It's quite boring now to me. I don't think I'll try any more of this author.:(

Yes, ok, update, I am done with it and it was HEA but I couldn't help but think she'll probably end up cheating on the poor hero in a few months. I just think she was way too hoe-ey for me to sympathize with. sorry.

This is a difficult review for me to get out. I was so torn with this book, I liked it but I was turned off by a few things. First the main character was sleeping around a lot. I understand it was part of her "issues" it just wasn't my thing. Now on to her issues, I don't know that in my opinion it was developed enough. I got that she had some difficulties but I was never really able to understand how that made her who she was. With all of that out of the way this was for me an unconventional romance. There are a lot of steamy scenes and I had to keep reading to find out what would happen next. I also fell in love with the small town she moved to and felt like the author did a good job of making me picture the small town in my head. Overall I was left a little confused but did enjoy the book.

There's a heck of a lot of sex and not a lot of story, at one point I was quite disappointed by Tuesday for sleeping with three different men in two days, but as she says she's a damaged character. There is a story loosely in there, with odd teasing snippets about Grandma that make you wonder if she wasn't promiscuous as well, overall though it's a good read, there's an element of suspense, and also an element of hiding behind the sofa cushion as Tuesday goes through the house searching for her stalker, you're tensed up waiting for someone to jump out on her. There is an end to the story, although the whole thing seems to be fitted into an incredibly short time frame and it's a bit too neat and tidy at the end, considering what's gone before. I enjoyed it enough to consider other books from this author.

What an amazing read! Sommer had me hooked on her works since Big Bad. I've yet to be disappointed. Such amazingly original, erotic and fun reading is put out there for us all to enjoy.

I look at Shepard as a overgrown (good looking) teddy bear! He's such a gruff, heroic yet gentle man that is much more then the eyes can see. Tuesday is a great character with strength to be admired as well as envied. I'll just put as she is definitely a force to be reckoned with and you DO NOT want to get on her bad side... Ever!

Fans of Sommer (and those that have not yet had the pleasure of reading her work) if you have not yet read Restless Spirit. What are you waiting for? You have not really read erotica until you have read from one of the Queens!

I dunno...... Normally I write long reviews but here I'm just not sure what to say. Except perhaps that after reading half the story I was still looking for it. The story I mean....

Tuesday fucks one guy after another without much regard for anything but her own need and satisfaction. Only concern is really whether she is gonna get caught between the guys.....

I have to admit, I gave up..... Not even interested anymore in finding out who she ends up with.... No connection whatsoever.

It could well be me, but I need to be engaged at some point during a book, and I just wasn't.

There was nothing wrong with the writing from a technical point of view, it was the content that was off for me. So two stars for a good cover and a well-written, not really there story.

Sommer Marsden offers us Erotic Suspense in this novel. The heroine is a bit of a free spirit (read sex addict!) but nonetheless, I found her engaging. The hero was strong and well written as well. The couple was easy to connect to and I was rooting for their happy ending. The suspense aspect of the plot was a bit vague at times, I would have liked more suspense woven into the story. All in all a sexy but interesting read, with pacing that seemed a bit rushed towards the ending of the book. I would read more from Ms Marsden.

If you like books with constant sex this is the book for you. I like a story with my sex and about half way into the book I got one. The first half of the book didn't work real well for me it kind of dragged on and was a constant hump fest. The second half of the book was really good. The questions of is she going crazy or is someone messing with her and who was messing with her was great. I also loved Shep he is amazing. If the first half of the book went as well as the second half of the book I would have given it 4 1/2 stars!

I actually started this and then stopped because I was turned off by all the turn ons...lol. It was too much sex with too many different men for my taste. But then I picked it back up and couldn't put it down because behind all the erotic, graphic, sex was a real story. This might have been my first real brush with true erotica and although there were times I was hiding the page from anyone in the room, I can't say that I hated it.

Arc copy netgalley. Ok that was bizarre. 3.5. The concept was good. Too much sex. Did I say that? I love dark erotica, but this book initially the chick just whored herself. We didn't find out why she felt broken until the end. Her romance with Shepard was too whirlwinded... Needed deeper explanation there besides great magnetic sex. What was good though was the ending. Didn't see that one as the stalker

Kinda Cool!

I read this a while ago and found it hard to move on from it, the characters keep popping into my head.

It reminds me of a Lora Leigh book in both the best and worst ways, its hot,its lead character's moral compass may need a little calabration :) - all my favourite things but like Ms Leigh the back story is not strong which detracts a little from the book as a whole.

I loved Tuesday and Shepard though!
