This is a very local Akron book, but for someone who lives in Akron, it is a lot of fun. The author, Irv Korman, spent many years doing reviews and interviews for the Carousel Dinner Theatre and Tangiers. Both venues brought in big names, especially in the 1970s and 80s, when stars from California spent summers doing summer stock productions across the country.

Korman has put together of collection of brief biographies of many of the stars he had the chance to meet and work with over the years. He has carefully researched each performer to provide career background and then centers each piece on the performer's visit to Akron. Korman treats each individual with respect and sometimes compassion (it didn't always go well).

I Was Jerry Lewis' Bodyguard for 10 Minutes! shows just how much talent visited Akron "back in the day" and is a good reminder of how much talent still visits NE Ohio. If you enjoy learning about musicians, movie stars, and comedians from the mid-20th century, you will have fun with this book.

Received this book signed by the author, who happens to be my wife's cousin. Lots of interesting info about the celebrities and the author's opinions about them. If you want to know what these people are really like, then this is the book to read.
