This was the first SHH book I've read. This pretty much stood alone. There was some clear foreshadowing about Finn and Evie's book which may actually be more interesting than this was.

Tom's a neurosurgeon who was blinded in a bike accident. He's always been defined by his work and without it, he doesn't see how he can do anything of value. He's a kick-ass lecturer but unfortunately believes the sorry old adage that "those who can do, those who can't teach". Thanks Tom. I guess you just popped out of the womb practicing surgery. Moving on.

Tom had a troubled youth and wasn't exactly surrounded by healthy relationships (although he has a mentor couple so he's not completely devoid of love). He refuses to believe in love until it's almost too late.

Haley was a PITA. She has PTSD from when she was 11 years old. I just didn't care for her too much. She was too whiny about herself but remarkably insightful about Tom. The same can also be said for Tom.

I got this one in the big HQ sale a few months back. I doubt I'll read others in the series.

This is a series that you have to read in the right order. I think I was hoping for a bit of a miracle, by the end of the story, when it came to Tom's sight. But it was a lovely story and the epilogue was good too.

Sydney Harbour Hospital: TOM'S REDEMPTION is author Fiona Lowe's latest offering from Mills and Boon Medical Romance releasing in April 2012.

By a quirk of fate neuro-surgeon Tom Jordan lost his eyesight. Now he is unable to operate and for him it feels like he has lost a limb. When he was sighted he kept away from relationships and emotional entanglements.

But now he doesn't want anyone's pity or sympathy. So he keeps himself aloof to the point of being rude.

Surgical registrar Hayley Grey felt herself drawn towards him. And the attraction simmering just below the surfaces was mutual between them. Will they act on this mutual attraction? Then Hayley comes up with the idea of `friends with benefits!' As she herself is not ready to commit to a relationship at this point because of her upcoming exams.

When she gets to know the man behind the blind surgeon, she falls for him hard. But will Tom return her love?

Why is Hayley scared of sleeping in the dark? For years Hayley has held herself apart from people but Tom had slipped under her guard and made a home in her heart. Now she has to come clean about her phobia. And why does Tom have this driving need to succeed? Why can't he depend on Hayley?

You just can't help but root for Tom and Hayley to get to their happy ending. I didn't want the story to end just then. But who wants a good romance to end? This story had layer upon layer of emotional and sensual tension.

Author Fiona Lowe mostly writes about small communities or outback hospitals and her stories are based in rural areas so Sydney Harbour Hospital: Tom's Redemption was a pleasant surprise from her. This story was based at a big bustling city hospital and it was very realistically depicted. I knew when I picked up a Fiona Lowe title that I was going to be reading a spellbinding story which I will devour in one sitting and Sydney Harbour Hospital: Tom's Redemption was no exception!

Hayley Grey is a Resident at Sydney Harbour Hospital, she is one exam away from being a qualified Surgeon. She is scared of the dark but other than that a good kick ass female main character. Tom Jordon, a Surgeon, has returned to Sydney from Perth where he had been recuperating for two years following an accident; a car banged into him when he was cycling.

We learn that Tom is gorgeous, a serious person whose focus has been 100% on his carear which is now not an option for him. So he is at the stage in his life where he is looking for what he wants to do now.

Enter Hayley into his life. They develop a friendship which grows to more...

This book is a fast read. I didn't really feel involved in the story which I think was mainly due to the length of the book not giving the author or reader time to really engaged in the story. Likewise, these two fairly interesting characters didn't get room to grow. Their bumps in their relationship seemed to be solved before you got a chance to fret for them.

The medical referencing was just enough to convince me they knew what they were doing without flowing the pages with terminology.

I enjoyed the book but it was just ok.

Number 4 in the Sydney Harbour Hospital series. Had a slow start on this one, probably because there is quite a bit of the Finn/Evie story popping up early and distracting me. Once I got going it was a great read with two very interesting characters. I do have to say that the idea that there might be a doctor or nurse out there that doesn't have a traumatic past seems fairly unlikely half way through the series. I can only hope life isn't so traumatic for the rest of the populace in the real world.

Tom is gorgeous and irascible and totally hot. Hayley, with her dark history was clever and a loner but still likeable. Loved the development of their relationship which was very believable in the hothouse intensity of hospital life.

The sizzle was nicely graded but less explicit than the previous book in the series but that was to be expected given the different authorial style. I was drawn into the emotional climax and found the epilogue very touching and satisfying. Given the series nature I wasn't expecting the epilogue but it rounded the story out nicely.
