Since her arrival at Dover Academy, the one person Kat has been able to depend on is her best friend Mee-Seen, better known as Mouse. But when Mouse gets a crush on the new art teacher, a misunderstanding comes between the two friends -- and a class trip to the art museum only makes it worse! When a famous painting is stolen right under their noses, will Kat and Mouse be able to smooth things out in time to catch the thief?
Alex de Campi is a New York-based writer with an extensive backlist of critically-acclaimed graphic novels including Eisner-nominated heist noir Bad Girls (Simon & Schuster) and Twisted Romance (Image Comics). Her most recent book was her debut prose novel The Scottish Boy (Unbound). She lives with her daughter, their cat, and a Deafblind pit bull named Tango.
More fun mystery solving for our junior high protagonists trapped in a posh junior high school. Kat is more on her own this time, as Mouse is sulking over the new art teacher, but they come together during their art school field trip. I liked the manga style illustrations which were easy for me to follow.
This one teaches us how to make a magnet out of a nail, a battery and some paperclips. The inspirational women this time around are Jocelyn Bell Burnell and (of course she's in this list) Amelia Earhart. Other than that, what can I say? I'm still into it.
Kat & Mouse are back. Kat's father takes a job as a science teacher at a private school back East. Kat becomes friends with a bright, quirky student named Mee-Seen (Mouse). The students take a field trip to a Boston art museum and a famous painting is stolen and someone from the Dover Academy is the thief. Kat & Mouse are also trying to solve a series of thefts around campus, perpetrated by "The Artful Dodger."
Still more relationship drama than mystery, but more mystery elements mixed in make it a nice hybrid for older kids and teens who are looking for a bit of both.
