Pandaman was not only used in a chapter of the manga but would later return as a recurring cameo character in Oda's own works.

FIVE BRILLIANT STARS! Ya'll I'm really enjoying this story. While there isn't much that I can say in regard to the actual plot, just know that Buggy the Clown is a trip and it was so interesting watching him and Luffy go at it. There is this ease to Luffy that most of his adversaries don't understand and I love watching them get riled up behind it. Additionally, this is the volume in which we are introduced to Nami and I'm so curious to see how her personality (she HATES pirates) is going to mesh (or not mesh) with Luffy and Zolo.

We will see this trend continue, Luffy's pirate crew gets bigger, so they get to face bigger crews, but screw the crews, what's important the stars of each crew, and they will always be slightly more than Luffy's crew.
That might make you feel this is generic but it's not, everyone has their own unique story, everyone has their own unqiue character and looks, everyone has their own unique powers, and the writer excels in coming up with new powers, that other writers don't have anything to come up with anymore lol
I loved the dog origin story I don't remember it from the anime but I watched the anime ages ago.
Still distrustful of Nami for some reason, but she feels the same way towards Luffy's crew, she is distrustful of pirates.

I can't believe Buggy has a whole volume named after him. I totally forgot this. What kind of madness is this?

So much fun still! I think I liked the first volume a bit more, but I'm still stoked to continue with the story. I can see this heading to great places for sure.

I'll start by saying that I hate hate hate clowns, and Buggy might just be the epitome of it.
One Piece, Volume 2 (“Buggy the Clown”) picks up right where the first left off, and we keep getting to know the first characters of the crew. Nami takes a central role on this one and we start seeing there's more about her than meets the eye. This is applicable to all characters I believe, but I'll RAFO.
This volume keeps the nice mix of comedy and silliness that is somewhat more uncommon nowadays, but reminded me a lot of things I enjoyed while growing up. The art changes throughout the volume, and though it's always beautiful, I don't know which I prefer. u
I didn't mention on the review of the first but I am obsessed with the in-between chapter curiosities. The sketches, drawing lessons, character's evolution. My favorite in this volume was about Wickie the Viking. I loved this Cartoon sooo much! What a road trip down memory lane!

AnyWHO… I always find myself laughing or cursing tremendously when it comes to this series hahaha. If it weren’t for Luffy, Buggy, and Zoro (Zolo) I’d probably rip the manga to shreds with my teeth every time I saw Nami.

This was all right...
But I think this series might lend itself better to anime, so I'm probably just going to be watching this one. Reading/seeing this much action on a page kinda gives me a headache. I do like the characters, but it's hard to read and understand the scenes.

Ah, Buggy. Poor Buggy. On the surface a cheerful and enthusiastic party animal... but scratch the surface a bit and you uncover a sad, bitter washout, venting his frustrations on everyone around him. He could've been great. He coulda been a contender. A lot of this becomes apparent in the future - in the very next volume in fact - but it's already heavily implied. And even then he's good for a laugh, even if we're laughing at him rather than with him.
He's a lot better and more enduring villain than the last two, but not by much. Much as I enjoyed this volume, I'll be glad to see the story move on from him pretty quickly in the nex- say, remember when One Piece could complete an entire story arc within the span of a single volume? Ah, those were the days. Can't do that anymore, sadly.
Great introduction to Nami, too. I like how Luffy of all people refuses to make friends with someone from the outset.

One Piece, Vol. 2 continues where the previous tankōbon left off and contains the next nine chapters (9–17) of the on-going manga series.
Monkey D. Luffy begs Nami to become a pirate and his crew's navigator, but she refuses and uses him as bait to steal the treasure of pirate captain Buggy the Clown – as she is a thief, but one that steals only from pirates. As Luffy and Roronoa Zoro fight the Buggy Pirates, Buggy is found to have the power of a devil fruit which allows him to separate his body parts at will and control them. With Buggy's crewmen defeated, Luffy fights him one-on-one.
This tankōbon is written and illustrated by Eiichirō Oda. For the most part, it is written and illustrated rather well. This tankōbon mainly centers on Nami, a thief and expert navigator that only steals from pirates. She refuses to join Luffy's crew, because he is a pirate, but eventually joins forces with him when the face 0ff Buggy the Clown, who is also ate a Devil Fruit, which gives him powers and a contemporary of Shanks – Luffy's pirate role model. I liked this even more than the first one, as we see Luffy, Nami and Zoro (Zolo in the English translation) take on Buggy the Clown. A pirate who seems to have some insecurities regarding his rubber nose and a strange assortment of crew members, including a lion tamer and acrobat. And don't get me started on ChouChou and his steadfast loyalty to protecting his owners shop. There's humour and adventure and at the centre is this kid who just wants to be the king of pirates while standing up against those he perceives to be doing wrong. So good.

I still don't see any improvement in the storyline yet...Maybe I am expecting way too much because of the hype but even then I just feel like the character's response in the book is too impulsive. In every other panel we see them opening them mouth like a monster to scream! Bro just calm down and talk, I just get annoyed at that aggressive way of reply. I don't know if it is a manga thing in general or just a one piece thing...I am really hoping that this will only get better with volumes *crosses fingers*

Zoro and Luffy come to a town but they get separated because reasons and thus Luffy meets Nami but we get her motive and how she betrays him to Buggy and the comedy that ensues there and Zoro to the rescue and the shebang that happens and then meeting this dog Chouchou and the mayor of the town and seeing the dogs backstory Luffy decides to rescue and save him! Its really good and well done and loved the whole comedic effect of it! Plus the art and shading gets better here and we slowly hinting at the grand line and the various devil fruit users!

This manga is at least as imaginative, and much more carefully crafted than Fairy Tail*, which it shares a lot of superficial similarities with. While Nami is definitely from the same school of female character design as Hiro Mashima's women are, the camera behaves itself much, much better here. As a result, the story has a somewhat more fun, innocent, youthful vibe to it. Though it is more gory, I think. The part of this volume where Zoro (soon Zolo) got me a bit queasy the first time I read it years ago, but I guess I'm more tolerant of that kind of thing now.
* I know this came before FT, and I would very easily believe it if I was told FT was directly inspired by it. I'm just comparing the two after having not read any of this series for at least fifteen years, and having read about a third of FT much more recently.

In this volume, Luffy meets Nami, a thief, and excellent navigator. Actually, I actually don't know if she is great, or if Luffy and Zolo are just so bad at being sailors that she simply seems godlike.
Our story takes place in a small town that has been taken over by pirates; Buggy the Clown in this case. He too has eaten a Devil Fruit, making conflict with him more interesting. I'll let you discover what his power is. Our favorite pirate is drawn into a fight with Buggy's group, as expected. There's a lion and a man on a unicycle and other such weirdness that only pirates led by a clown can provide. It's a good time.
Of note, this doesn't wrap up in this volume. It actually wraps up about half way through the next volume. Once you start these, you're reading through. The volumes, at least the early ones I have read, do not seem to care in the slightest where the actual arcs begin and end. You just get whatever the next 9 chapters are. That's nice if you're in for the long haul because you don't have to worry about shorter volumes causing there to be more to buy overall. But it can be annoying while reading because the end of your book doesn't mean the end of an arc (and it means you'll hit the end of an arc half way through a volume sometimes). It's still a really fun book, but it's something to keep in mind as you're finding copies to read.

Some parts of it I enjoyed others not quite so much. Overall a decent volume. But i have about 28 volumes more at home to go so hopefully I'll get hooked on the story sooner or later

What a fun series! Luffy is a unique and awesome character! This is just volume 2 out of over 100 volumes! I can’t wait to continue this series! 4.5 stars rounded up to five!

Zoro's fight with Cabaji is the highlight in this one for me. The scene where he cuts himself and basically shows Cabaji the fingerest finger of all time is just brilliant! The point where he went from awesome to my favourite person in the manga for sure! Luffy and Buggy's face off continues and I can't wait to know what happens next!
