Scarred is a collection of twenty-four poems about how our wounds can both weaken and strengthen us. It starts with a vignette about an asthmatic girl who struggles to fit in and ends with the image of a mother working to give her daughter every advantage, taking the reader through stages of pain and growth and awareness.

I give it a 4.5 rating.
Very raw with a natural flow to the words.
Contemporary topics chosen, centred around relationships of various kinds...it is a beautiful example of how minimal words can be used for powerful imagery, some of them moving you to think and feel about situations and events entombed in the words.
Most of the pieces have a tinge of sadness, pain in observation reflecting the natural emotional/spirtiual growth in us as people.
My kind of poetry.

Felsted is raw and authentic and does a good job at navigating the fine line between provocative writing and melodrama. She addresses hard hitting and disturbing human themes while also doing a great job at addressing more common and shared human themes.

good, raw poetry dealing w/ wounds & healing. Moving. Good flow. I only wish it were longer :-)

This poetry collection is every bit as good as Cleave.

Of course, I'm a bit biased in my opinion. The poems are more edgy, though, as they deal with some mildly troubling topics and a few of them are about human sexuality.

If you're a realist, you'll probably like it.

The simple style and powerful imagery of these twenty-four poems make this a standout collection. Some of the details are disturbing, but feeling that raw emotion is one of the pleasures of reading poetry. The introspectiveness of the speaker and her relationships with others are haunting.

This is the paperback version of Scarred. The ebook version came out in March. I'm quite proud of this chapbook, but it's not for everyone. It contains some edginess and adult content.
