Mara is a Jewish concubine of Herod Antipas. She gains the agner of Herodias, and is forced into a wandering life of prostitution in order to support the needs of her Jewish lover Judah, a follower of John the Baptist, who went insane when he found out the truth about her. He becomes the madman that Jesus cures by sending the demons into the pigs. She becomes the prostitute who rubbed and washed his feet at the home of the Pharisee, in this story set at the time of Jesus.
