When Spencer Fogle hears blood-curdling screams on his way home from school he doesn't realise he is about to become embroiled in a dark plot involving carnivorous plants, genetically modified flies, and a mysterious, hidden file.
Johanna Knox is the author of The Fly Papers, a new mystery-adventure series about mutant carnivorous plants. She was inspired to write these books while wondering what the carnivorous plants in her own collection would be like if they developed minds of their own.
Plants loom large in Johanna's working life. She has had a regular spot on National Radio's This Way Up chatting about foraging for wild weeds, and keeps a popular blog about the same subject. She also frequently writes for magazines such as Taste and Good about plants, food, and sustainable ways of living.
She's always happy to talk about writing, the wonders of carnivorous plants, or both.
Twelve year old Spencer Fogle isn’t one to make rash decisions. But when he hears someone screaming – he climbs a tree to check it out. Living in the famous movie making town of Filmington, he’s not sure what to expect to see through the porthole of a laboratory.
At the sight of a scientist being bound and gagged and her lab being trashed – Spencer doesn’t know what to do. The scientist sees him peering in at her and gets his attention as she kicks a file into a grate, hiding it from her attackers.
When he retrieves it, he is suddenly in danger himself.
This begins Spencer’s life changing story of mutant carnivorous plants, movie stars, snap decisions and plans to defeat the richest man in Filmington – Jimmy Jangles.
The first in a series by Kiwi Author Johanna Knox. Humour, a bit of sci fi, school stuff and tons of action all mixed in together. Great read.
I have read the second book in this series as well and it's so cool! I have not been able to stop waiting till th third one comes out, as this id one of the most cool series of books I've ever read.
I rated it 5/5 because it's awesome (just saying).
