This was another quite slow instalment, and the ending has left me a little confused, what the heck has Nick done now? Is he in an alternate reality or something? Is his poor mother still in Hell where he left her?

Otherwise this book did irritate me a bit. It seems a little unlikely that he’d be able to just pick up some sticks and play the drum like a pro, and his mother’s whining seems to get worse with each book!

This book was a lot more intense and more deep than the prior books and unlike the prior books, there wasn't a bunch of zombies or other creatures taking over. Now sixteen and coming into more and more of his powers, our little Nick is growing up!

There are just too many things going on in this story so I'm just going to touch on some highlights:

♦ Nick found out some 'truths' about Kody in the last book and that causes a bunch of problems.

♦ There are many more 'beings' after him and many that he cannot see or know how to fight.

♦ Caleb really proves himself to Nick and I'm happy that he's become such a big part of the story.

♦ Ash is around A LOT and that makes me very happy.

♦ Bubba's role will be taking an interesting turn if Cherise agrees.

♦ Silver Jag, new clothes...hello sexy Nick!

♦ Simi...and the kiss. WOW....but what exactly does that mean?

♦ Big surprise with Adarian at the end and will the binding potion work?

♦ I'm really curious about Zavid...hopefully we get to learn more.

♦ The Epilogue. OMG....Ash is a five foot tall geek in a pink tux...say it isn't true! But it looks like that's what the next book, Illusion, is going to be about. Not sure how I like that!

I did have some problems with the book. I felt that it dragged at parts and there was definitely an overload of information. Makes it hard to know what's important to remember and what's not.

There were also a lot of deep messages and touchy subjects that were addressed primarily about bullying. It is extremely heartfelt and very poignant especially with what's going on in today's society as well as with Nick's. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that things continue to get better for him.

And as always I loved seeing everyone from the Dark Hunter world and it's great reading about everything from Nick's POV. I just hope that it doesn't influence me too much and I can keep the two series separate.

Wow! totally worth the wait, Amazing book with all the life's lessons coming from the characters, with all their wisdom, truly an inspirational book!

there are still a lot of stones yet to be turned but it's the fourth book from the series so far we have to wait, there are so much going on, and a lot are still unanswered...The distant future where Ambrose lives was getting WORST, poor Nick, his last thread of humanity was almost gone:( I hope Artemis will have the courage and could work out to change the past with the help of the ancient Order

I'm still clueless of who is Nick's Heroine in his DH book,
yes I know he's still young with all his teenage hormones lol and a lot of ladies will come and go from his young life, so I don't mind:)
I mean he had some visions from other women in his future life, which made me happy because I'm not a fan of team Kody, but so sad she was still part of his future though, I'm sure Kody fans are happy for that news:(
so I'm gonna stick with my instinct that the one who would be his last and forever girl will be immune from his charms!(just like Ash and Tory's love story, the one with the hammer throwing:])
I'm still team Simi, against all odds!!!
and Tiyana??? I don't know, i think that was just the same figment from the "seize the night" book, so unsure about the girl..
but the one I'm curious was the woman he saw from his future, the one with the battle gear and all, I don't like that that would be Kody, no no no no, it said there she had black hair and she's more like the goddess Ma'at that means like Menyara, I hope she has dark skin so that the puzzle will fixed:)

what astound me was Adarian, I really hate Nick's father for abandoning them and had been brutal father to Nick...it really change my idea of him, with one single act, I have never thought he had loved Cherise, because the Malachai saying was that Nick was conceive in violence... and I never thought that a pure Malachai like Adarian who only knows hatred got humanity in him, thanks to Cherise, he did know how to love and care only little but it was enough, it may not be for Nick on what he had done but at least he did it for his love for Cherise:) and that he was redeem for me and I have more respect on him:)

This is a very brilliant book, perfect for teens and young at heart, there are so much to learn about them, the journey of Nick from his teenage life and avoiding his destiny was not easy and I will definitely continue reading this series...

oh before I forgot,
what the heck was the Epilogue??? was that an Illusion :)

Nick se encuentra ahora en un lugar feliz, tiene a su novia Kody, su amigo Caleb, un buen trabajo con Kieran, y Ash enseñandolo a manejar. Pero las cosas buenas en su vida nunca duran, asi que cuando se entera de que el proposito de Kody es asesinarlo, que Caleb solo esta ahi obligado por su padre y que hay otro grupo de seres detras de el, pues, vuelve de nuevo a intentar manterse a salvo.
Cuando mantenerse a salvo no es suficiente, cuando lo que debe es mantener a salvo a su madre. Nick lograra hacer todo lo que esta en su mano (sepa como hacerlo o no) para mantenerla a salvo.

En este libro, el autor nos mueve por demasiados inframundos, demasiadas intrigas, realmente no se logra entender porque introducir tantos personajes dentro de este universo y complicarlo tanto, o por lo menos porque no hay ninguna logica a los lugares donde fue llevado Nick, si explicaciones del lugar o los personajes que estan en el.
La historia, en completo, va tomando forma, pero me parece que tienes que tener un conocimiento demasiado fresco de todos los Dark-Hunter, sus dioses, universos, infiernos y panteones, como para entender la mitad del libro. Y si, se que es un libro escrito para los fans de la serie, pero siento que le hacen falta, aunque sea, unas notas de pie de pagina con algunas explicaciones.
En fin, me gusta la serie, quiero saber mas de este universo donde Nick intenta volverse bueno, donde el Malachi intenta re-escribir la historia, pero espero que los proximos libros sean un poco mas explciativos de lo que han sido hasta ahora.

Ok…that was an odd ending. Had to be a dream, I hope. Now, on to the next book of the series…I hope it picks up again. This one was really good but I am hoping for a little more out of the next books so I am as addicted to them as I was the last three. This one did finally reveal what and who Kody is though, so that was good because I have been guessing since book one. Also, the battle involving the demon “amusement park” and his parents was really awesome to read.

My quick and simple overall: really good and hoping for even more in the next book.

Well.
If my previous reviews haven't made it clear enough that I can fangirl like a nut when I like a series, let me refresh your memory. I really have enjoyed the first three Chronicles of Nick books. I enjoyed the characters, the themes, the writing, the fact that there isn't swearing. I liked the weirdness and creativity of it. I found Nick way to hormonal but I'd go so far as to say that has been one of my biggest complaints in the series.
Funny, that plays a smaller role in my irritation of this book. It just wasn't....really worth it. At all. I'm giving it two stars because the plot picked up near the end but otherwise I got sick and tired of the same old stuff. There are to many characters being thrown around and Nick is stupid and there is way to much random kissing. Like, ewww, what?
The "Plot Continuation" if you call it that is mainly Nick continuing to come into his powers and the threat that all is lost. But like seriously, that is it. There is no smaller story worth bothering within the greater theme. The same characters show up but maybe because time has passed since book 3, I failed to truly appreciate any of them. With new 'other world creatures' and mythology being added, the plot also felt cluttered and confusing.
Mainly, the book harped on the idea of Nick's humanity facing his demon and not giving in and protecting his mother and how all the girls are falling for him and he's starting to look cool and how everyone around him is like 'yo, we brothers now.' And its boring. Long, long paragraphs of italics quoting people about being good and fighting for the right stuff. Every time I saw one I wanted to jab myself in the eye. With a needle. Just....boring.
The Point of View switched randomly. Like, Nick's Dad gets this weird few paragraphs of memory and then it will be Caleb mooning over his old girl or something. I got annoyed with it very quickly.
The final thing that annoyed me about this story is that EVERY. SINGLE. CHARACTER has a back-story involving the loss of either a significant other or their entire family. All of them. Is the loss of a spouse the only thing that turns someone good...or evil? As much as this book tries to play with the question of 'Do we make our destinies or are we a product of them?' the destiny-scope here is very limited. Frankly, downright boring.
This is a transitional book and could have been good. It wasn't. Boring. I'll read the next one because of my early attachment to Nick but when Kody becomes a favorite character of mine...you know how one-dimensional everyone else is.

เล่มนี้ไม่ตื่นเต้นเท่าเล่มแรกๆที่เคยอ่านมานะ เหตุการณ์จะออกแนวเรื่อยๆ เล่าถึงการปรับตัวของนิคและการไว้เนื้อเชื่อใจคนรอบข้าง ถ้าจะหวังความหวานของคู่นิคกับโคดี้ เล่มนี้มีอยู่ประมาณเศษเล็บค่ะ ซึ่งไม่มีปัญหาสำหรับเราเลย ฮ่าาาา แค่เรื่องของนิคคนเดียวก็เอาอยู่แล้ว สิ่งที่จะได้รู้มากขึ้นคือการนี่นิคต้องรับมีกับการเป็นมาลาไค ตัวตนของโคดี้และคาเลบ และตัวละครใหม่ๆที่เข้ามาในเรื่องเช่นกลุ่มเฮลแคสเตอร์

เอาจริง เราอ่านไประลึกชาติไปอยู่เหมือนกัน ตัวละครมันเยอะเหลือเกิน อาณาจักรพรานราตรีมันช่างกว้างใหญ่ไพศาลนัก ลืมหมดค่ะ ตัวละครเล่มอื่นๆ ฮ่าาา เนื้อจากเรื่องของนิคมันจะเล่าย้อนตั้งแต่ก่อนชุดราตรีเล่มแรกและอนาคตของแอมโบส ต้องตั้งสนิทกันนิดนึง

เราเดาทางSherrilyn Kenyonไม่ออกจริงๆ ยิ่งชุดนิคแล้วยิ่งไม่รู้ว่าอนาคตจะเป็นยังไง ต่อให้อ่านพรานราตรีมาแล้ว เราก็ยังไม่รู้ตอนจบที่ตายตัวของนิค เพราะเขาต้องแก้ไขอดีตของตัวเอง เพื่อตัวเขาในอนาคตจะไม่มาทำร้ายทุกคนบนโลก คนอ่านยังงงบ่อยๆ ไม่เข้าใจว่าคนเขียน เขียนเองแล้วไม่งงได้ไง อยากขอtimelineและความเชื่อมโยงของตัวละครของทั้งเซ็ตนี้จริงๆ

ตอนจบเรื่องนี้ มันเป็นยิ่งกว่าclifffhanger ค้างด้วยเหตุการณ์ที่ไม่เกี่ยวข้องอะไรเลย อยู่ดีๆก็โผล่มา เล่นเอาไปไม่เป็นเลย ตอนนี้เลยอยากอ่านเล่มต่อไปมาก แต่คงต้องไปเก็บทุกชุดของDark-Hunterให้ครบก่อน จะได้ลำดับเรื่องราวถูก

The characters in this are really starting to annoy me now.

Chronicles of Nick is a YA spin-off of Sherrilyn Kenyon’s adult paranormal romance series, which – I have to be honest here – I haven’t read. My initial enthusiasm for these books was mostly due to Holter Graham, the best audio narrator in the history of audio narrators, but even after choosing to read the last two books, my love wasn’t diminished in the least. I guess Nick and I love each other unconditionally now. *wipes tears of joy*

Nick’s voice is fabulously done. He was 14 at the beginning of the series and I assume his gender and age presented a challenge for Sherrilyn Kenyon, but I could never tell. He is a teenage boy with teen boy priorities, just recently rescued from bitter poverty and not quite accustomed to being a blip on the social radar. He is hesitant to speak his opinions, completely insecure around girls, embarrassed by the obnoxious Hawaiian shirts his mother makes him wear, stubborn, hardworking, but easily influenced. Some of these traits can be quite frustrating at times, especially when he gets dragged into relationships that aren’t healthy for him or when he allows a girl to change him into something he’s not, both inside and out. But overall, Nick is a sweetheart I can’t help but adore, even when I wish to strangle him at the same time.

In Inferno, Nick finally learns Nikoda’s true purpose and the two of them break up. Enter Casey, a cheerleader who, a mere month ago, would sooner have spit on Nick than date him. But she’s gorgeous and he’s a hormonal teenage boy, so when she starts influencing him and changing him on every turn, he surrenders without any real struggle. Nick doesn’t trust easily, and it seems that everyone around him has an ulterior motive, but Kody’s betrayal (or what he perceives as betrayal) makes him seek comfort elsewhere.

Truth be told, I was quite angry at Nick throughout this book, but fortunately, all the amazing secondary characters made things somewhat easier. Nick’s mother is still my favorite character by far, her courage and her desire to protect her son unparalleled in YA lit. I have yet to meet Kyrian and Acheron as heroes in the Dark Hunter series, but from what I’ve seen here, I know I’ll adore them both. Ash is eleven thousand years old and he’s been through hell far too many times, but his heart is good and he is still generous.

Despite its few flaws, I was thoroughly enjoying Nick’s story right up until the very last chapter. The ending was so confusing and nonsensical that I still don’t quite know what to think. Things will probably sort themselves out in Illusion, but honestly, that’s no way to end a book. How very cruel of Ms. Kenyon to leave us utterly confused.

Nevertheless, I recommend this series even to those unfamiliar with Kenyon’s work. There’s a lot to love here – if nothing else, the occasional moments of hilarity will make it worth your while.

Inferno is the fourth book in Sherrilyn Kenyon's Chronicles of Nick series so this review may contain spoilers for previous books. I'm going to assume that anyone who reads beyond this point is up to date with the series so look away now if you're not!

Poor Nick doesn't have the same worries as most sixteen year old boys, instead he has the weight of the world on his shoulders knowing that he has to change his future so he doesn't kill everyone he has ever met and cared about. As if visits from his future self weren't enough to cause him stress he has just discovered that his girlfriend was sent to assassinate him and there is also a mysterious entity who is set on destroying both him and his father so they can claim the Malachai powers for themself. Heartbroken by Kody's betrayal Nick has to decide who he can really trust to have his back when he needs them.

I started reading the Chronicles of Nick series before Sherrilyn Kenyon's adult Dark-Hunters series but since I have recently started to devour her adult books I find I'm enjoying this series even more. I'm still only about 6 books into the Dark-Hunters series but getting to know Kyrian, Asheron, Simi and the others has just made me appreciate the appearances their characters made in Inferno even more than usual. Ash has definitely become a firm favourite but Simi never fails to add humour to the story and I loved her interactions with Nick in this book. It was also great to see Ash from Nick's perspective and I really like how Ash is always there when Nick needs him.

I felt that Inferno was a slightly slower read than the first three books, it was more character driven, particularly in the beginning, but that's great because we really get to see Nick do some growing up. I also felt like we got to know Caleb and Kody a bit better and find out more about their backgrounds and their motivations for helping Nick. I did find myself slightly frustrated that Nick let himself be caught up by Casey's attention so easily but I guess most teenage guys would have reacted the same if they were approached by a beautiful girl so I'll forgive him just this once.

The pace really picked up in the second half and that's when I found I didn't want to put the book down. There are a lot of interesting revelations, some great fight scenes and some poignant moments between Nick and his friends and family. I still love Nick's interactions with his mother Cherise, it's so sweet to see how much he loves her and how far he will go to protect her from everyone, even himself. Inferno is another great instalment to the series, it ends with a killer cliffhanger that means things are sure to get VERY interesting in the next book, Illusion. I'm just disappointed I'll have to wait until next year to see how it all plays out!

Inferno is the fourth book in the Chronicles of Nick series, and it brought the whole story back on track for me. I wasn’t all that happy with Infamous, because that felt too much like a filler than an actual novel to me. With Inferno, though, my love for Nick and the whole Dark Hunter world made sense again, even if I’m still not completely happy with the time-travel aspect of the story. Yes, yes, I know, it’s fiction, and time travel cannot even happen in the real world.

Book 4: Human ego & Jealousy

Grim decides to come out and play. Beginning of chapter one, Grim reveals Kody's true mission. Nick breaks up with her, right when they both falls in love, and the day after he gifts her a heart locket; Caleb goes full protection mode. I was picturing the trio like Harry Potter where the three will rely on each other and be present in all scenes; I did not anticipate after becoming a team for one book, the trio separates.

I'm a little mad at Caleb. After the breakup Casey steps in. Heartbroken, I understand Nick's reluctance with the attention. But Caleb didn't question the motive and saw her as a normal new gf.

New devlopment: All of a sudden Bubba is the "closest thing to a father" for Nick; when he found out Bubba son's age would have been Nick's age, he find himself looking up to him. I can't believe Kyrian and Ash have no clue he's a Malachai. With the clues everywhere, I didn't think Nick is still shielded. I guess the immortal powers are different from the demon. Nick requests a Malachai history lesson from Ash. More K/Ash chapters 😊 yay

Casey aggressively shows Nick a different side; trying out for a band, having confidence, buying new clothes, looking and feeling different. She's unrelenting in her pursuit for him; working with Grim to bring him to the darkness, actual Casey is sleeping and can't get out.

Who is Simi's Akri? I thought it's Ash but now I'm thinking Ambrose since Artemis is the goddess who keeps visiting him. Did Ambrose really lose his humanity?? What's going on with Nick/Ambrose reality?

Finds out there is a loophole in the bargain between Adarian and Caleb. Instead of binding him to his life, he bound him to his power, therefore the next being who absorbs the Malachai powers will inherit Caleb. Caleb used to be married and lived in blissful happiness for 3 yrs.

Adarian is dying. What is killing him?

Nick gets mugged by Alan and Tyree. Possessed Casey eggs him to kill but is stopped by Simi, who kisses him to free him from the bloodlust. After returning home covered in blood and bruises, Cherise throws a fit telling him he can't walk anymore and wants him to drive everywhere. Ash gets him a dr license and a Jag that same night.

Bubba asks Nick's permission to date Cherise. Someone helps Adarian escape prison. There are Mara, Hel Hounds, and Bounty Hunters set loose. Adarian and Nick gets abducted. Noncorporeal Casey is slammed out of the girl's body. Grim's plans go disastrous. Goddess Hel of Helheim ruins Grim's plan by kidnapping Nick and meets the Hel Hound Zavid who saves him by releasing him.

Nick goes through a series of tests to get home. At first I thought he fell into an alternate dimension but it was a test he needed to answer.

With Nick gone from the earth realm, Caleb seeks Kody for help. Caleb discovers her identity when he went to her house and saw the weapon and symbol on her walls.

His mom and dad are kidnapped and trapped behind a thin ice wall of demons. Through Nick's power, he is able to locate them and teleport to his father. But there are demons waiting for their escape. Adarian sacrifices himself for Cherise by saving their lives and giving his powers to Nick. His mom's memory is wiped and Kody temp seals the powers by shielding him from outsiders. They decide to trust each other again. He saves Zavid and didn't know when a Malachai saves a demon, he enslaves him.

All these scattered realities have me confused. He wants to be normal and average and one of his reality comes true in the epilogue. What's going on now??

More of the same occurs in this installment of the series. Nick is still being influenced by outside supernaturals to make decisions in the hopes that he will turn into his evil self. There are a couple of new players, but the story is essentially the same......which leads me to the reduced rating.

While I understand that the premise of this series is that Nick is destined to be extremely powerful and his decisions will lead him to either use that power for good or for evil, and thus there are entities trying to seduce him one way or another. However, I feel like we are being subjected to the same formula over and over, especially since it is mostly evil that is tempting him just missing out on being successful each time. I'm ready for something different to happen. IDK, like maybe good could win for a while instead of Nick just returning to the status quo. I'm not sure if I want to keep going if I'm going to get the same story each time.

[This is a (not-so-well-thought-off) Rant. Beware.]

My first reaction when I got this was to squeal and flail like the fangirl I am.

Moving on, prior to the momentous second I got 'Inferno', I re-read the series, and it made me realize some things.

Cherise Gautier is SO ANNOYING. Yes, the female species tend to be emotional(I happen to be one, myself), but Cherise's emotions are just... irrational and exaggerated. Yes, I get it. She loves her kid very much, and it's hard for her being a single parent and stuff. But Cherise is not merely overprotective towards Nick, she's obsessed. And that ain't healthy.

And I get the fact that Nick is the sarcasm master, but must he do it in EVERYTHING he does? Yes, yes. It's entertaining, but there IS a limit to that.
Not to mention the fact that he's a slave to his mother. GAWD, stand up for yourself, boy! Have some backbone! Well. Eventually he did, but still... meh.

Anyways. Inferno was, undoubtedly entertaining. thrilling. and the overall storyline has a lot of promise which made my reactions go to overdrive.
I'll not elaborate on the story, simply put, Nick's growing up and having to embrace his Malachai self more quickly than he thought. And ends up with quite possibly the most annoying cliffhanger that I had ever encountered.
Please note that having read this this quite quickly, I might have to re-read it again someday and alter this review. Nevertheless, I noticed some obvious annoyance that got in the way of enjoying my reading.

The way the plot's written was... confusing. A bit too fast-paced without sufficient elaboration nor description on some parts of the scenes. There was a LOT of jumping (with no hands up whatsoever) from one scene to another that will puzzle you and have you re-read some parts again. And I'm not talking about flashbacks or something like that. No. It's like now they're in the Kitchen, and suddenly they're in the Library.
But still. This is a CON book, and if you read the series this far, you get attached to it and would definitely move on. So it's a forgiven flaw. for now.

For those who follow Ms. Kenyon's Dark Hunter series (of which I merely read the one on Kyrian. Was it the 1st one..?) you will meet familiar characters...perhaps. I'm not sure about the others, but this one definitely has more of a crossover than the earlier books in the series.

On the plus side the characters' development were interesting. We get more on Caleb, some screen time of Kody's has been reduced, but there are a LOT of additional characters here. But overall it's like 'reveal your past and identities' day.
However. I really can't get over the fact that the climax (at least I think it was) was just a few paragraphs. A. FEW. PARAGRAPHS. not even a few pages. NOPE. Like what the f*ck. WHY would you do that??
[don't open this if you're not sure you want too. Because this is a SUPER MAJOR SPOILER How could you just kill Adarian like that?? Not that he's my fav character, but he could have played a more major role!! WHYYYYY???]
Not to mention that most of the scenes that build it was too independent and just does not have the flow the other books has.

Well. All in all. Entertaining. Very Entertaining. But it has its flaws.

Cherise is so annoying! Seriously that woman always pisses me off. I hate it that she is so ignorant about the world, about her ex-lover and her son and that she personifies the ultimate goodness and innocence. I get it that how much she loves Nick but at the same time she always emotionally blackmailing him and the poor boy is full of remorse about things he can not help. It was Cherise's decision to keep the baby and I'm sorry to say this, but it was her decision to make love with Adarian at age 15. I would be so happy if Nick finally understand this and doesn't feel guilty about it.

The Inferno was not what I expected. With the frightening but still awesome vision at the beginning I expected much more Ambrose or at least to see what Nick screwed up that is caused to Ambrose to change into the Malachai.

I found the story a little bit slow in the beginning and in the middle, but Nick went through some important life lessons what he needed to learn. However I was a bit bored with the Casey-parts. After that the things speeded up and we got some real action finally. I loved Nick's adventure in the Helheim and that he can finally control some of his abilities. Oh, and it was very interesting to get a brief look into Adarian and to see his love for Cherise (gggrrr, still hate the woman). But his sacrifice and death was a bit too easy for me and have to say that it was a bit gooey too. Anyway, one less problem for Nick.

Oh well, and Nekoda. Still I couldn't love the girl but I say it's better if she is with Nick instead of trying to kill him. But I hope that she won't be the one for Nick at the end of this. I don't know, who would be better but I love the idea of Nick&Simi better than Nick&Nekoda. It would be very interesting and I assume Simi don't have an objection about it :DD

The one thing I couldn't understand that how is it that neither Acheron nor Kyrian doesn't notice anything? Seriously? The boy is actually hunted by various demons and other nasty things and nobody notices it? I understand that his powers are cloaked and Ash doesn't see his future because of their friendship but I can hardly believe that he doesn't feel the ripple in the Force when two Malachai is fighting and dying in his city. Huh?

And I almost forgot the epilogue, what the feck was that?!

You must understand, I AM A HUGE SHERRILYN KENYON FAN! I read every Dark Hunter book and most of her other books so when she came out with this young adult off shoot of the Dark Hunters, I sucked them right up. I read this book totally for me, I wanted it, I bought it and now I’m going to tell you why I loved it.

1) ½ Evil Demon or not, Nick is just an all around awesome guy. Yes, he’s conflicted but what teenager isn’t without having a demon threat over their heads.

2) Ash, yup he’s here in all his yumminess!

3) Simi – I think she should get her own series, how can you not love a 11,000+ year old demon child and Goth chick fashionista.

4) Nick’s mom – who wouldn’t want the over protective, crazy obsessive, I’d do anything for my child mom. She shows complete and udder devotion and love for her son. This is a spoiler for those of you that didn’t read Dark Hunter I balled my eyes out when she died in the Dark Hunter Series, and kinda hated Kenyon for a few days too.

5) This series has every kind of supernatural including but not limited to gods, goddesses, demons, shifters, voodoo priestesses, crazy radical humans and so much more. It is a complete thrill for any paranormal enthusiast.

Ok, Ok, I could keep going, but I’m going to stop there. If you want to read an incredible young adult, male perspective, paranormal adventure, check out this fabulous book written by this incredibly talented author Sherrilyn Kenyon. And yes, I do have to check every time I spell her name – I apparently can’t handle the slightly original spelling.

What an ending! Leaving us out there wanting more.

I like few YA series. Harry Potter, Carl Hiaasen's & Kenyon's. There was teenage angst, but it was subdued in the last half of the book. Kenyon knows how to trap the reader in her world and make us want to be there even with the danger. Nick is growing up and that could cause the world to end. Thank God for his Mother and her love. That is the hope for mankind. I love whenever Ash makes an appearance and I loved his conversation with Nick. He revealed much.

There were surprises such as Simi's kiss, Adarian's protection of Cherise and Caleb's actions. There are always surprises in a Sherrilyn Kenyon plot. She puts us in Nick's head as we feel his struggles. This books gives us hope.

An issue addressed in this book is bullying. Handled with knowledge and still very much a part of the story. Good to be a part of a YA book.

The Epilogue was the scariest part of the book. A short Ash in a pink tux. Give me demons. The next book is called Illusions so we can hope that Ash will not be stuck in high school.

Now on to Styxx and then to Illusions. So many reasons to look forward.

How I missed Nick. This book was worth waiting for. Every scene in that book was absolutely special and hilarious. Lawved the scene when Nick hugged Ash (tears) Nick was truly Ash's best buddy. The ending confused me. Plus, Nick's father Adrian and Cherise scene was sweet as well. I can't believe the great evil Malachi gave his life for Nick. At the end, he did do something worth and good. But now Nick has the all power but it's bound. And he has a slave as well (haha) I can't wait to read the next book. Nick is one wild kid. It would be great seeing what he's gonna do with the wolf. And again, what's with the ending?! I hope it was just one of his silly bad dreams.

If there is evidence of anything in this series, it is evidence to the fact that this kid Nick can take a freaking beating and still keep kicking.. I mean mentally and physically. Everyone is out to get him, everyone has ulterior motives, everyone wants to either use or kill him. Its flipping exhausting! Really.

The motto of this book is "Be careful what you wish for." As Nick gets closer and closer to his more powerful self, everyone is focused on swaying him one direction or the other. This poor guy can't catch a break.. and if its not supernaturals pushing and pulling on him its the police throwing him in jail every five minute. Nick is just desperate for a break, desperate for just some sense of normalcy.. If that means he needs to date the materialistic head of the cheerleaders then he will do it. If it means he doesn't have to kill, be killed, fight everyone constantly, and get bawled out by his momma all day every day then sign him up he is sick of this crap. What happens when he wakes up though, and all the supernaturals are gone and he is just plain ole Nick again hmmm?

Honestly I'm excited for the next book I've been feeling like Nick needs a little wake up call. He is quickly loosing his positive outlook and his amazement with the supernatural world. I am still constantly wishing he was older though.. Maturity wise, and just because I'm ready for him to get off the teet so to speak, you know have some semblance of some control over his life? At this point he is just getting jerked back and forth and bossed around. I'm ready to see some Bad A Nick!

DISCLAIMER. IF ANYBODY IS EVEN CONSIDERING READING THESE BOOKS PLEASE TAKE MY ADVICE AND DONT DO IT. AND FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE READ THESE AND ENJOYED THEM... HOW DRUNK ARE YOU?

I was giving a $50 shopping spree on Book Outlet for Christmas from my mom and I stumbled upon all 5 of these books. They were all under $3 and I saw they they all had really high ratings!! I was so excited because the plot seemed right up my alley and the blurb already had me grinning. Oh how naive I was. Now I am kinda of hoping that all 5 of the hardcovers that I bought just happen to get run over by a car or possibly dropped into a bonfire. And trust me, I am not one for bookish violence. I hated almost everything about these books but Im gonna try to narrow it down to just a few.

I hated these books with a passion. Don't get me wrong, there was potential. You could write a great story with this plot but the author ruined everything. She sucked. Let me explain. Apparently this woman is a New York Times Best Selling author but from what I can see, she can't even afford an editor. Or maybe her editor is just the type of person who gets distracted by shiny things and has ADD and can't focus because I can't even count how many times there were spelling and editing mistakes. THEY WERE EVERYWHERE. Not to mention there were mistakes in the actual plot and dialogue. For example, in the first 100 pages of the second or third book, one of the side characters (Simi) turns out to be a demon and the main character (Nick) is all shocked and surprised. Anyway he accepts it and continues to be the demon's friend and the story moves on. Then in the last 100 pages of the same book, Simi the demon uses her lame demonic magic and Nick is all shocked and terrifying BECAUSE ACCORDING TO HIM, HE DIDNT KNOW SHE WAS A DEMON. WHAT THE HELL. HOW DOES SOMEONE EVEN MAKE THAT MISTAKE. Another example is in the third book the main character is talking to another supernatural being and the conversation goes like this:

The supernatural creature turns to Nick and says, "How can you not see in the dark?" and Nick replies with "Not really."

LIKE OH MY GOD. YOU'RE AN AUTHOR YET YOU DONT EVEN KNOW HOW TO SPEAK ENGLISH. LIKE WHAT THE ABSOLUTE HELL.

The other main thing that I hated was the characters. Especially the main character Nick. Now to read 5 books all from the perspective of this retard has caused my eye to perpetually twitch and I can't decide if I need to see a doctor or not. By the 5th book, my heart would start beating really fast and I would get really anxious during the intense scenes, not because I was scared for everyones safety but because I was so excited to see if they would all die. Is that bad?! Cuz honestly, I do not feel bad what so ever.

Now based the photo in the back of the book, this author is a grown ass women who, to be honest, reminds me a lot of Wynonna Judd. She should not be writing a book from the perspective of a 14 year old boy. The author tried to make Nick really funny and sarcastic... and Honey, it did not work. The main character could never be serious and personally, his "sarcasm" made me really uncomfortable. I felt like the half the time I spent reading each of these books, I was cringing from the horrible dialogue. Also, half of the stuff that Nick did in these was stuff that no normal kid his age would do. It was just so obvious that these books were written by a woman. Don't get me wrong, it is amazing and extremely important for boys to respect their mothers but the way Nick was with his mom was weird and just off. It was annoying because all he did was stress about his mom EVERY MINTUE OF EVER SECOND. Not to mention he was always stressing about their money situation and how him and his mom were poor. Like I swear to God, Nick couldn't meet anyone new in the first 3 or 4 books without commenting on how they dressed and how much more money they had compared to him. And those effing, Hawaiian shirts from Goodwill... Im sorry, but were those supposed to be cute and endearing? Was that supposed to be like his signature thing? Like Harry Potters round glasses?..... Hawaiian shirts!?! Seriously?!

I know I am in full out rant mode right now but I just have one more thing I need to add. As I mentioned before, it was obvious that this was written by a woman because no guy that age acts like Nick. And don't start telling me how I wouldn't know because I just happen to be the same age as him. This series is supposed to be about paranormal creatures and how the fate of the entire world is resting on this one boys shoulders but I felt like 3/4 of each book was just really shitty deep quotes. Like there is this one part where one of his friends from school (a girl) is being bullied and with his magnificent spidey senses, he discovers that she is going to kill herself. He runs across all of New Orleans to get to her house and he just happens to get there just in time to talk her down from committing suicide. He then does a huge 3 page speech about bullying and how amazing she is and blah blah blah. Don't get me wrong, it was an inspiring speech but seriously?! I just felt like the author was trying to be deep and come up with really good deep and inspirational one liners instead of focussing on the plot. And stuff like this happened all the time. On more then one occasion, there would be a huge battle going and all the characters would just happen to have 5 minutes of quiet time to sit around a camp fire and roast marshmallows and talk about their feelings. It was lame and I admit to skipping more then one page at a time just to get past the sappy crap.

This will mark the end of this review but I swear I could write a whole book about what was wrong with this series. If you plan on maintaining your sanity stay away from these. They are a waste of your time. According to Goodreads, there will 15 books in this series but I can promise you I will never pick up another book by this author.

I don't truly know how this is such a best seller. I decided at this book to stop investing time into this series. The first book was confusing because it wasn't a stand alone series, as one would think with the author going from Adult Paranormal Romance to YA, but rather, it is part of her Adult Romance series.
Her writing is at best on par with fanfiction writing. You can see the makings of a great plot line with interesting characters, but its bogged down with a writing style that feels more like someone trying to fill up space than actually get readers to connect with the plot and characters. In this book *spoilers* Nick breaks up with Kody because he found out she was sent to kill him. But instead of the author taking the previous three books to build their relationship, it was just thrown together that she was hot and made Nick feel things since he was a teenager. The break up in this book felt like a thing that needed to happen to move the plot along. As a reader, I couldn't connect with Nick how betrayed or heartbroken he felt. I couldn't feel any desire in how wronged Kody was in the breakup. The break up was, "Hey Nick, your gf is an assassin to kill you." "Oh yeah? Bye Felicia." I felt no gut wrenching ache and desire for the couple's unfavored break up due to the fact that it wasnt developed.
On other characters, Nick claims Ash is his best friend but the only interactions they've had thus far was Nick asking Ash a bunch of questions, Ash showing up at random times to help Nick get saved, and then Ash teaching Nick to drive. It seems they have more of a guardian/dependent relationship than a best friend relationship. Kyrian is just a character that is there. He shows up...sometimes. But he is central to the plot? But he very rarely talks to Nick. As someone who hasn't read the DH series, I know nothing about this character, which to me reads as very poor writing. A good author can take any story and give you insight into all the characters without relying on previous installments in another series. Given that this is a jump in genres, this book ends up becoming an introduction of her as an author to many readers, making it vital that she takes the time to develop characters from her previous series.
I have no idea when Nicks mom suddenly became super Catholic. I found out in the third? book that Nick was an alter boy. Things like this are central to the characters development and personality and they aren't introduced until that key trait is important in that current paragraph.
It wasn't until this book I learned that Nick's grimoire had a name or even was the soul of a female. Things that should be introduced early on in the series. Also, there is no mention of how he discovered this. It just suddenly happened. And that describes most of the plot and the story. They are at school, they have a conversation and then suddenly Nick is getting hugged by his mom out of nowhere...? No, turns out they walked (or maybe it was drove? It never says) from school. They just suddenly were there.

So now that I have placed my own review, I have no idea how this is a best seller, when it has a very interesting plot line, however, very poor writing makes it uninteresting and disengages readers from wanting to find out what happens.
