Don’t let the title fool you: Christine Warner’s debut release SOME LIKE IT IN HANDCUFFS isn’t hardcore. To the contrary, this delightful romantic suspense, full of unforgettable humor, absolutely sizzles with a slow, sensual burn and characters who positively leap from the page.

Sunny Kennedy’s off-the-record investigation of a cold case murder takes a heated turn when she’s hauled to the police station in handcuffs, her only crime being a woman in a family full of men. Her father and brothers—all police detectives—want her off the case, but she’d determined to seek justice for a man who still grieves the loss of his daughter, years after her death. Her brothers think she’s asking for trouble and won’t be able to handle herself when the aforementioned trouble arrives. She’s not on board with their assessment, but to appease the manfolk—and ensure her access to police records—she agrees to work with Judson Blackwolf, a behemoth detective in a hot bod with baggage of his own.

Judson already lost one partner on a case, so when Sunny insists on keeping her undercover gig tending bar, neck deep in murder suspects, he insists otherwise. But Judson gets a fast taste of Sunny’s dogged determination when she sneaks off to work anyway. Not to be outdone—or outsmarted—he shows up, playing the ex who can’t let her go—a stint that quickly leads to real fireworks. As the tension heats up, so do those protective instincts, and before they know it, threads of real emotion have them both tied in knots.

The suspense is thick, suspects plentiful. It’s not often the reader is genuinely enamored with the purported bad guy, but with a couple of great twists it’s hard to know who to suspect . . . or who to trust. Sunny’s close interaction with the major players might skew her judgment, or does it? Judson’s objectivity is a nice balance to her belief in the prime suspect’s innocence, the banter fast and furious when Judson questions her defense of a man who has for years carried the burden of presumed guilt.

And just when you think you have it all figured out, you better think again. The truth is definitely in the details, and even down to the wire, things aren’t always what they seem, and sometimes help comes from the most surprising places.

Christine Warner’s debut release delivers with a feisty heroine and a hero who proves to be her ultimate match. Packed with breathtaking suspense, sizzling with sensuality, and doused in humor, SOME LIKE IT IN HANDCUFFS is a must read for lovers of romance and suspense.

What a delightful little mystery romance. I was pleasantly surprised because I was not sold on the idea of reviewing this book. What a surprise I got! This book has it all: a little bit of romance, mystery, and a well-written story. I have never read anything by this author in the past, but I am glad I chose to!

As to my rating, I did wonder whether I would give it a 4- or 5-star rating. I could have given it a 4-star, but there were a couple things that pushed it over the edge. The humor in the book is quite entertaining. I get so tired of authors not putting good humor in their books. And the writing is excellent. The characters are 3-dimensional, and even though most of the story follows a typical formula, the author throws a couple of things in to make it a little more interesting.

There is some profanity in the book, and there is a bedroom scene. I am glad to say that both are fairly minimal. But I do post this as a warning. I can honestly recommend this is a nice, light, easy read that mystery and romance lovers will equally enjoy.

I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I was not financially compensated, and all opinions are 100 percent mine.

I pretty much read this book in one sitting – Couldn’t put it down! It’s full of suspense, mystery and romance with a twist of humor woven throughout the story.

Spunky and sassy Private Investigator Sunny Kennedy has been hired to investigate a 26 year-old cold case, and she’s determined to solve this one, despite the over-protective interference from her police detective brothers and police chief father.

Somehow Sunny’s family of alpha males manage to saddle her with Judson Blackwolf, a sexy detective temporarily assigned to the police department until he can move on to Montana. If Sunny wants access to the police records that will help her in the investigation, she’s got to accept Judson as a partner on the murder case.

Judson’s blue-gray eyes, strong, rugged features and dark coloring that makes his Native American heritage obvious immediately catches Sunny’s attention. And sparks fly from the minute Judson snaps the cuffs on Sunny in a raid on Benny’s Playhouse, a club Sunny is bartending at undercover to gain information for her investigation.

I absolutely loved the surprise of Judson’s disguise - Did not see that coming - Talk about a shocker! And Sunny’s comebacks are snappy and downright hilarious. The sexual tension between Sunny and Judson consistently raised goose bumps throughout the story and culminated in one of the sexiest love scenes I’ve read in a long time. The fluid characterization caught and kept my interest, and the “Who done it?” kept me in suspense until the last few pages of the book. And, at several points in the book, I’m not ashamed to say the story had me swallowing a lump in my throat. This debut novel by Christine Warner is a real page-turner and a must read!

My Review:

This was a fun and cute story. Sunny is trying to make her name as a PI, but that isn't easy with a family full of over-protective men who just all happen to work for the police force too. The positive thing about them is that she has access to police documents, but when they insist she take a partner to have continued access, she is not a happy camper...especially when they bring her in cuffed to let her know.

I liked Judson, the police detective helping Sunny....a LOT. I liked his character. Unfortunately, just like all the men in Sunny's family, he has a bit of a problem with a female being in a dangerous position. But you know, it's hard to hate an alpha-male when it's so natural for him to go all alpha. My favorite scene in the book was the testosterone overload between Judson and Derek and Sunny's reaction to it. Just classic and funny.

There are quite a few characters in this book and it's hard to know who to trust and who is really the bad guy. I kept guessing and second-guessing all the way through the book. Sunny is working undercover as a bartender to solve a 26 year old coldcase murder. Judson hangs out at the bar disguised as Sunny's ex who isn't over her. There are two men who run the bar, Benny (she likes him) and Slater (she doesn't like him). Maggie, Slater's mother, who plays an interesting part in the story. And of course all of Sunny's family...her father and two sexy and overprotective brothers who all work on the police force.

Overall, it was an interesting book. There were a couple of scenes where I questioned actions/reactions of the characters, but those weren't hugely distracting to the overall story and pacing of it. It was good for an afternoon worth of entertaining reading.

Some Like it in Handcuffs-

Nobody does sexual tension like Christine Warner. Wow! From the moment those cuffs clicked into place around Sunny Kennedy’s wrists, I was hooked!

Working undercover at Benny’s Backyard Playhouse, Sunny has found a comfortable position for herself, front and center, in order to solve a cold case that has plagued her client, Mr. DeVito, for twenty-six years. The last thing she wants or needs is interference from outsiders- namely Detective Judson Blackwolf.

But once she’d informed by the police captain- who just happens to be her father- and the small army of brothers who make it their duty to protect her, although she’d be the first to argue that point, Sunny has no choice in the matter. It’s either pal up with her new side-kick or forget about it.

I loved every moment of Some Like it in Handcuffs. Sunny and Judson are great together, exasperating, unpredictable, and yes…undeniably drawn to one another. And with the two of them working the case, the clues keep piling up. But so does the heated attraction and Judson can barely keep his hands off. Everything else gets pushed to the back of his mind. Although Sunny’s determined not to be distracted, she can’t refuse just a sample. Or two. It was a treat to watch these two go toe to toe and fall head-over heels.

Ms. Warner sprinkles the right touch of mystery with just the right amount of suspects. It will take both Sunny and Judson to bring a murderer to justice. If they don’t kill each other first!

P. I. Sunny Kennedy has been fighting all her life to be recognized in a family of all males. Now, she has the opportunity to prove herself. She’s been hired to solve a cold murder case. Before she gets very far in her research, she’s handcuffed and dragged to the police station during a raid of the club where she uses her bartender’s job to gather evidence.
Judson Blackwolf, the hot detective who snaps those cuffs, has been assigned to assist Sunny in the case by her father, the Chief of Police. Despite her objections, she’s told it’s a take or leave it situation. If she wants access to police records, Judson will be her partner.
Judson and Sunny clash from the first time he places his hand on her head to ease her into the police car. But neither can deny the strong attraction between them, even though Sunny has no use for relationships, and Judson is moving out of state once this assignment ends.
Some Like It In Handcuffs is a funny, sweet story of two strong personalities each trying to have their own way. Ms. Warner’s debut novel is sharp, quick-paced, and thoroughly enjoyable. Sunny is sassy enough to tickle your innards, and Judson enough of an alpha male to accelerate your heartbeat.
If you’re looking for a cozy weekend read either in front of the fireplace, or on the beach, pick up a copy of Some Like It In Handcuffs by debut author Christine Warner.

Sunny Kennedy is determined to prove to her over-protective brothers and father that she can solve a case just as well as they can. But when they find she's working a cold case involving the murder of a retired colleague's daughter, they decide to insist that she work with a partner. It doesn't matter if Sunny doesn't want the partner, they only way they'll let her continue with the case is if she agrees to work with hot, almost out the door, detective Judson Blackwolf.

The last thing Judson needs is to be involved with another stubborn woman who resists his attempts to protect her. But he figures he owes his mentor to try and find out what happened to his murdered daughter.

Sunny and Judon are cute together. They rub each other the wrong way, but it's in a way that's like foreplay to them. They bickering, arguing and ultimately see the other person as someone that can't live without. They each have to get over their prejudices in order to get to that happily ever after place (and some require an intervention to get there) but ultimately it takes compromises and understanding on both of their parts to get their HEA.

The mystery around the cold case was perfectly interwoven into the romance between Sunny and Judson. While it may not have been a total surprise when we discovered who killed Karina, it was well written and suspenseful enough to keep your interest.

Some Like it in Handcuffs is a lively, humorous and sexy romance. Christine Warner demonstrates her talent for writing with this funny and delightful story that is both enjoyable and entertaining. The writing flows easily, the plot moves unfettered, and the sexual tension heats up.

Sunny Kennedy, a private investigator who is trying to prove her ability in a male-oriented field, has to contend with her domineering father and brothers, who are all in the law enforcement field. To alleviate their interfering concern for her safety, she finds herself saddled with Judson Blackwolf, a testosterone laden detective who thinks women should work in the background of law enforcement. The sparks fly as these two strong individuals find themselves fighting the strong sexual chemistry which flows between them.

This fun and witty read has it all – a little mystery, humorous dialogue, hot chemistry, sexy romance, creative storyline and likeable characters. It will have you turning the pages from the beginning to end while you root for the main characters’ happily ever after.

Private Investigator Sunny Kennedy has been trying to prove to her overprotective brothers and father that she can handle working undercover to solve a twenty-six year old murder. But the males in her life has other plans when they assign Judson Blackwolf to watch over her and assist with the case. When Sunny lets them she's none too pleased, she's thrown an ultimatum. If she wants access to the case records, she will have to allow Judson to help out.

Sunny and Judson have an explosive attraction to one another, yet each fight their own inner battles. Sunny doesn't want any relationship involving another male with a badge, and she very much likes her independence. Judson's dealing with his former partner's death, and Sunny reminds him of her too much. But alas, they can't fight the magnet pulling them together.

This was such a fun read. Sunny is spunky and a spitfire, taking it as well as she can dish it right back out. Judson has a heart of gold, even he believes she has no right being out on the front lines in the investigation. Christine Warner has created such wonderful, memorable characters and live long after reading their story.

P.I. Sunny Kennedy has set her sights on working a cold case to find the killer for the father of the victim, who is her friend and who is terminally ill. Time is a factor so she takes a job bartending at the strip club the original murder suspect owns, much to the dismay of her brothers and overly-protective father who are all in police work. The men do their best to keep her out of the physical side of the PI business but Sunny is determined and used to getting her way with men. Judson Blackwolf, the hot detective, who is biding his time before transferring to another state, has been assigned by the Chief of Police, Sunny's father, to work the case with her over her frustrated objections. He's macho. She's stubborn. And now someone is leaving her clues.

Some Like It In Handcuffs is an excellent read, funny and sexy. The pacing is good, the story will keep you interested, and the chemistry between these two just might warm your cheeks. I'm looking forward to more novels from author Christine Warner.

I wasn’t entirely too sure what to think when I was confronted with the title. However, after the first couple of pages, I soon found myself flipping from page to page with enthusiasm. This was definitely a humorous story with such likeable characters. The author crafted a smooth-flowing, well-written novel that captured my attention from start to finish.

I think the author did a fantastic job creating two extremely witty, appealing characters that complimented each other so well. Also, she established an awesome level of sexual tension and witty banter between Sunny and Judson.

All in all, I enjoyed this light-hearted, sexy, fun read. Without a doubt, I finished this book with a huge smile on my face. I’m anxious to read more from this author. So, please write more soon, eh?

A wonderful debut novel that keeps you turning those pages from beginning to end. Very hard to put down and I read it in two days! It was fun, full of excitement and suspense. Christine had a way of making me feel as though I was Sunny, who reacted exactly as I would have.

What more could Sunny ask for than to work with a sexy detective like Judson Blackwolf - I would have loved to have been in her shoes any day!

Well worth a day of putting your feet up to enjoy the entertainment, laughter, and mystery that kept me guessing throughout.

Great novel, Christine - can't wait to read your next one!

I've read many romance novels over the years and have fallen in love with many heroes, but there is something about Judson, the hero in Some Like it in Handcuffs by Christine Warner that makes me sigh. He is that perfect combo of handsome, sexy, funny, and strong. Plus, he knows how to push Sunny the heroine's buttons.
I found myself laughing at many scenes in this awesome book.
I HIGHLY recommend this novel.
Grab yourself a copy and find a quiet corner and allow Judson and Sunny to take you away on a wonderful, sensual, funny trip.

If you like a book with a ‘cop partners’ theme you’ll find this was a fun read, even though there’s a deadly serious side to it. The characters are lively and the story flows easily as they go through twist and turns of the plot, and encounter a rather mad secondary character. I homed in on the guilty party fairly early in the story, even though the guilty one (no spoilers here) was nameless at that point. Sunny is a likeable character; Judson a hunky hero anyone would love to meet. Some grammar and editing issues marred what was, otherwise, a very entertaining read.

This is a great read. It is steamy exciting and will keep you on the edge of your seat. I really like the ideal that this book shows that women can be strong. It is greatly detailed and sometimes you just want to tell Sunny and Judson to wake up. If you like action packed hot steamy romance you will love this book.

This is a cute story with a murder mystery woven throughout the book. It's full of witty dialogue and the pages just fly.

Sunny Kennedy works as a private investigator much to the dismay of her family members. While it might seem a plus to be a PI with brothers and a father on the police force, it's sometimes a drawback for Sunny. In order to continue working a 26 year old murder case and have access to evidence files, she has to accept a police officer as a partner in working the case.

Enter Judson Blackwolf, an officer working one last case before moving on to Montana. He lost his female partner on a case because she insisted on taking a risk so Judson is naturally overprotective of Sunny. The fact that Sunny is fiercely independent makes for some interesting scenes and chemistry between the two.

There were a couple of things that bothered me that kept me from giving it a 5 star rating. One is the misuse of apostrophe marks. I'm sorry, but it's a pet peeve of mine.

Here are just some of the instances of apostrophe misuse: "...to meet her brother's stares." There's more than one brother so it should be "...to meet her brothers' stares" or if she's only looking at one of her brothers in the room, then it should be "...to meet her brother's stare." "...a friend of her fathers, too old." It should be "...a friend of her father's, too old." "You're pride might be hurt, but..." It should be "Your pride might be hurt, but..." You're is the contraction of you are and you are pride might be hurt makes no sense. "Don't treat me like my brother's, Judson." should be "Don't treat me like my brothers, Judson." "Either you stay at your dads, one of..." should be "Either you stay at your dad's, one of..." "Didn't' Slater feel..." - This is self explanatory. "If she see's either one..." should be "If she sees either one..."

There were also some inconsistencies that pulled me out of the story. Some examples are:
When she's meeting with her brothers and father in the police interrogation room she "...slammed the table top with her fist. ...Her palm stung, but she..." If she hit the table with her fist, why is her palm stinging? It never made contact with the table. The side of her hand did.

Another instance was when Sunny was in Benny's office and had just discovered the love letters from Karina that he kept. She's surprised by Slater and pretends she was just leaving a note for Benny. "...but she grabbed a pen from Benny's desk..." When she finishes the note "Sweat percolated across the back of her neck, she brushed her free hand along the cool skin and tossed the pencil on Benny's desk." The pen suddenly turned into a pencil. Also, personally, when my skin is sweaty, it doesn't feel cool. It's usually hot to the touch.

One final instance was when Sunny gets out of her car at night and Judson is parked across the road about seven cars down from her. Judson watches her get out of the car. Okay he's close enough to see her rounded backside in the limited lighting. She steps up on the sidewalk just as a car fishtails around the corner. A guy gets out of the car and tries to grab Sunny. She tries to fight him off. The whole time she's fighting with the guy, Judson is running toward her. He falls, gets up, and keeps running. By this time the driver of the car gets out and is now fighting with Sunny too. He hits her in the jaw, knocks her out and throws her in their car. Both men get back in the car and drive off. Meanwhile Judson is still running toward Sunny's car and just barely touches the edge of the get away car as it speeds off. Okay, I live in a city where most people have to park on the street. It would not take that long to run the distance of seven parked cars, even if you did fall. I had my nephew count off 7 parked cars on our street and I stood at the other end of those 7 cars. It took him all of 3 minutes by stop watch time to run to me. Even if he had fallen, or pretended to fall, it wouldn't have taken more than 5 minutes to reach me. Yet the scene with Sunny fighting off her abductors and Judson running toward her took 3 whole pages on my Kindle. I had a hard time believing Judson couldn't reach her in time.

One other small thing that bothered me is that Sunny switches back and forth from calling Karina's father Glen or Mr. DeVito. The formality of Mr. DeVito suggests either she doesn't know him that well or she addresses him that way out of respect for his age. I could understand if she just referred to him as Glen because he is a friend of her father's and a former police officer so he might be a friend of the family who she's known her whole life and feels comfortable enough to address him by his first name but the switching back and forth bothered me at times. Either be formal or informal, but not both.

Now after reading all of the above, you might think I didn't really like the book. Nothing could be further from the truth. I thoroughly enjoyed it and have already recommended it to a couple of friends who like romances that have either heroes or heroines who are first responders.

This story had a little bit of everything, romance, suspense, humor.

Sunny is trying to succeed as a private investigator, but it is not easy with her family of over-protective cops. When her father and brothers insist she take a on a partner while working a case they think is dangerous, she is not a happy about it…especially when they pick her up in a patrol car and put her in handcuffs to bring her in to hear their plans.

Judson, the police detective who is assigned as her partner is seriously HOT, I liked his character a lot. Unfortunately, just like Sonny’s father and brothers, he has a hang-up about females working in dangerous professions (he’s got some past issues he’s working on concerning that). But it’s hard to not fall for an alpha-male who is so darned good at being just that!

Ms. Warner has quite a few good characters in this book. In the beginning I had a hard time figuring out who the bad guy really is. Sunny is working undercover as a bartender trying to solve a cold case murder for her client. Judson hangs out at the bar pretending to be Sunny’s ex who still isn’t over her yet. The two men Sunny works for, Benny (he’s cool) and Slater (he’s not) are definitely persons of interest in the case Sunny is working on.

Overall, it was a good book, made for a good evening of entertaining reading. Can’t wait to see what Ms. Warner has coming out next.

I knew from the sound of the title that i was going to be in for a fun and exciting ride. I was not mistaken. Some Like it in Handcuffs kept me glued to the pages from start to finish. Sunny makes for a great heroine, and she's so sassy, smart, and independent. her quirky but lovable family cracked me up. Despite how they treat her sometimes, being the only woman in the family, they do it with the right intentions, even if it doesn't always look that way. And Judson, whoa! He is a perfect match for Sunny!

The sexual (And non) tension between the two could start a fire. Electric! Wow. You can tell there's definite chemistry from the get go, even when Sunny doesn't want to admit it.

Christine Warner's debut novel will thrill readers that enjoy light hearted romantic suspense. There's just the right amount of suspense, angst, and drama. I felt very connected to Sunny and Judson throughout, and was very sad to see the story end when it did for the mere fact that I wasn't ready to leave these characters yet.

I dare you to pick up this book and not enjoy it. I can't wait to revisit the Kennedy clan and anyone else that this up and coming author has to give. My advice- don't miss Some Like It in Handcuffs!

Read review at my Blog: ReadingToTheStarsAndBack

Today is just a mini-review because I have bloggers block. But a few paragraphs is better than nothing, right?

Personally, I liked Some Like it in Handcuffs more than I did Two Timing the Boss. I wasn’t just interested in the romance, I wanted to know how the case ended. Who killed Karina?

Sunny was a very cheerful girl, but what annoyed me about her was that she completely made the wrong assumption with Judson and almost shunned him. She didn’t even bother to ask? It’s very annoying and unneeded for when this happens in books.

Judson had an interesting back story, which I won’t tell you about because SPOILERS!

Overall, I think Warner writes very steamy love scenes and I was surprised by how well she wrote the policeman – bits. The earrings Watson! (Had too.)

Christine Warner is a new to me author, but I am now hooked! She captured all my favorites in one book! Witty humor, a strong female lead, a hot detective, romance, and a keep you guessing who done it mystery.
Sunny Kennedy is the lone daughter and sister in a family of the over protective Chief of Police and her detective brothers. She is trying to prove she can hold her own as a private investigator while trying to solve a cold case involving the murder of a retired police officer’s daughter. The Kennedy clan is not going to make it easy on Sunny and have her arrested and handcuffed while she is working undercover. They give her an ultimatum, work with Detective hottie Judson Blackwolf or blow her cover. Neither Sunny nor Jud is thrilled with the arrangement, but either have little choice in the matter. Detective Judson Blackwolf is trying to get over the loss of his partner and is only waiting on paperwork before moving to Montana. The prospect of helping to solve the murder of his former mentor’s daughter is the only reason he is agreeing to this arrangement. Jud feels that front line police work should be left to men and women should work the behind the scenes. He can’t bear the thought of losing another partner. Sunny is hell bent on proving that a woman’s place is wherever the investigation takes her, even undercover with the number one suspect. Jud’s idea to become her ex-boyfriend at her undercover job leads to a realization of feelings neither bargained for…but could it be too late?

Sunny is a P.I. trying to prove to her family she can do this on her own. Judson is a detective who lost his last female partner and because of that, feels strongly that the ‘front line’ is no job for a woman, in the background maybe, but not out on the streets. They are thrown together by her father, the Chief of Police and Judson’s boss, and her cop brothers to work together to solve a cold case murder Sunny has taken on to put a family friend’s mind at ease before he passes. Sunny hates the idea, but knows she doesn’t have time, and her family has made it clear if she wants help from the Police department in the form of evidence and files, she must work with Judson.
I loved Sunny and Judson. They both have very strong personalities and butt heads frequently. The sexual chemistry is evident from the beginning. I love the banter between the two. There are some very humorous exchanges between them and between her and her brothers. Sunny doesn’t really take crap from anyone and I love how she isn’t afraid to give it right back. She definitely earned the nickname Wildcat from Judson.
I read that this was a debut novel…Wow, outstanding debut novel. Great job Christine Warner! Once I started reading, I didn’t want to put this down until the end, and even then, I didn’t want it to be over. A perfect mix of intrigue and suspense, drama and danger, all woven together nicely with great humor, sexual tension, and romance. It’s a well-written, captivating story with in-depth character development, and great dialogue. Overall, a great read!
