Detective Rick Frost washes up in the sleepy Los Angeles exurb of Santa Isidora after being cashiered by the LAPD. An everyday murder investigation draws Frost into a web of corruption that stretches from the salons of Beverly Hills to the Green Zone of Baghdad and quickly pits him against powerful forces that even the Feds fear to disturb. Before it’s over, Frost will face an agonizing decision: to bring the guilty to justice, he must risk the life of the woman he loves.
An emotionally drained police detective with a checkered past is assigned a murder case. His investigation leads to local and national fraud and cover ups. Twisted plot, fast read. I rate this a 4.2.
A study in morality. It's worth every ounce of sleep I missed. Appreciated the snippets of introspection and the truth that we always have a choice, the system doesn't always work, and you can't save everyone.
One of the better mystery-thrillers I've read, not just for the engaging story but also for the quality of the writing. The characters were interesting and believable with quirks and nuances, unlike the stock cardboard kinds of characters in too many mysteries. The story grabbed me from the beginning and kept pulling me along right through to the end.
This was an excellent mystery/thriller with a twist ending I did not see coming at all. Clever and exceedingly well-written with believable but sometimes quirky characters. It would make an excellent movie -- part "Syriana," part film noir. I read it straight through and recommend it highly if you like mysteries that aren't just fashioned with a cookie-cutter to read like very other mystery.
This book started off rather slow in my opinion. However, half way though it picked up speed and the ending surprised me for I did not see one of the characters detouring! Nice read.
good book gave a three just not my style liked the characters just felt that frost was sharper than he was written to many clues not to be able get there sooner
I enjoyed this book very much. It was clever, well-written and kept my interest throughout. It was a little bit of an unusual choice for me, but I'm glad I took a chance on it!
