"Well, on the bright side, that’ll probably be the last time a rat ever tries to kill you.” - Sirius Black to James Potter

This is well written story about the beginning of the Marauder friends adventures including their pranks. Very plausible plot line and entertaining in my point of view.

James, Sirius and Remus will never do anything that would change how I see and feel about them. The three of them might be pompous, arrogant jerks as Severus sees them but that is part of their charm and they mean well. Peter on the other hand is just an insecure boy that longed to have his friends' charm, I can understand why he did what he did in the HP series but I'm not saying that I can forgive him. Severus is different, he does really love Lily in a way that no other person can not even James, I do think he is as heroic as the rest of the Order of the Phoenix and a damn good double agent. He also is a brilliant wizard not just on brewing potions but also on hexing spells. You can't blame him that he hates James & his friends, it won't be a good story without love and jealousy!!!

I'm glad L. Wilt wrote this and I can't wait to read the next book!!!

This is a wonderful book. I know many HP fans have been hoping for a series about the Marauders, and this fan has decided to take it upon themselves to give us the story. I am grateful to this author for their imagination in telling this story. I love how the reader uses tidbits from J. K. Rowling to embellish the story even more.
I cannot wait until Year Two comes out.

I loved this book.
Firstly because it gave me a chance to go back to the world of Harry Potter. Secondly and maybe most importantly, because it meant Sirius and Lupin again and James for the first time.
I warmly recommend it to all Harry Potter fans(:.

So let me just say that this may be my favourite book ever!!! I mean there is not one thing I disliked (except peter whom I hated) about it but many that I loved!!!.... Some examples:

-James and Sirius. I love these two!
-James and Sirius getting into trouble! :) troublemakers
-Remus was pretty cool
-lily
- :D Severus
-kreacher and the blacks
-all the staff and students at Hogwarts are from hp's except here they are friends with jp and same age or bit older (ex. Kingsley is a prefect, frank longbottom and his future wife,...)
- all male potters have to do something adventure-est during the school year
-the invisibility cloak!
-the map (both maps)
-lots and lots of future reference's to everything!! (That I especially loved)

So overall a fantastic book!!! Definitively a favourite and 5 stars! Also I would recommend not only to harry potter fans but also to anyone who would like a good read in magic and Hogwarts.

Very anxiously waiting for the next one!!!

That was totally fabulous! I loved the idea of James, and his friends during they're first year at Hogwarts! The author did a fantastic job weaving the Harry Potter world throughout James's story.... Suspenseful, exciting, and fun....this kept me reading right to the last paragraph! And I wanted to cry at a certain time jumping spot! Fantastic fan fiction! I truly hope this author continues this series! If I didn't know any better, I'd swear Rowling wrote this herself! Awesome job!!!!

My previous reads of fan fiction have not been very happy experiences but this one attracted me because it was a prequel to the Harry Potter books. I would love JK Rowling to write a series of books about James, Sirius, Snape and the gang at Hogwarts, so seeing that this was a fan fiction of their first year, I had to read it. And I thought it was GREAT!

The first thing to say is that it is true to the characters and the world that JK Rowling invented and nurtured. The author obviously referred to the books to get things right, then added in a few things of their own to enhance the plot, things that were a perfect fit into the world we know. This book is a salute to the work of JK Rowling but is also a great piece of writing in its own right.

So, what is the plot? A death eater at Hogwarts is seeking the Bolt of Ages, the scepter of Alexander the Great which is said to control time. James, Sirius, Remus and Peter need to find the diary which gives clues as to where the Hogwarts founders hid the four pieces of it. It is a dangerous treasure hunt and the death eaters are waiting for the chance to take the prize from them.

The four boys are exactly the way I imagined them to be. Sirius with the good looks and lazy grin, always ready for an adventure, James trying to catch Lily's eye and getting into fights with Snape, Peter going between being terrified and daring depending on the situation, and Remus being caught out in lies about visiting his sick mother while he covers up his werewolf condition. Peter becomes less of the bad guy and more like Neville was in the first Harry Potter book, which felt weird in a way but you could see how he would be easily led to the dark side. Snape sees James as a rival for Lily and tries to get him into trouble and make Lily think that James hates muggle borns. We see other characters as well, with the boys sharing a room with Frank Longbottom, which was nice. Kingsley and Lucius are prefects, Slughorn has his Slug Club with Lily as a member, and Ernie, driver of the night bus in HP&POA is the conductor on it in this book. It felt comfortable to read, as if you were slipping back into that world all over again.

There was plenty of humour in the book, which I enjoyed, including the boys adventure with the Giant Squid and the Knight Bus as they sneak out of school to find the diary. I liked the whole adventure of looking to solve the clues and find the pieces, which had the elements of excitement and tension, with death eaters and Peeves lurking around every corner! The map that they are following is obviously the inspiration for them to invent the Marauder's Map which Harry finds so useful. The action was well written and fits with the sort of adventure which you could imagine having in the castle, with great attention to detail. We have the paintings getting involved in the fun and even an 'appearance' from the Invisible Book of Invisibility' which was fun. There was so much attention to detail to make it feel more like a JK Rowling novel.

There were poignant moments too, as we get flashes of how James is to meet his fate. After being attacked by a rat during an adventure Sirius says to James 'That'll probably be the last time a rat ever tries to kill you'. I found that kind of sad, as was the future glimpse of a scene involving Harry. I won't spoil it but I did feel a bit sniffly after that!

L Wilt has certainly got a flair for storytelling and is very good at putting it together for the reader to flow along with. She pays homage and respect to the material of JK Rowling but adds things that fit well into the world. I have no hesitation in recommending that you get yourself a free copy if you love all things Harry. A copy can be found on their website (see web address beside URL under the book description).

This book is really amazing Ms. Wilt nailed the Marauders, Lily and Snape perfectly.

I cannot wait to read the second book in the series.

If anyone is looking for something else to read while we wait for Year 2 I suggest you read the James Potter Series by G. N. Lippert.

His books (4 with 1 on the way) follow the eldest son of Harry Potter.

This book held my attention only because of it's relationship to the world of Harry Potter. There were too many references to the future and not enough back story.

Ten years ago I used to always watch this author's YouTube video 'How to Animate Characters', which was very helpful for learning about Anime Studio, and I was also really impressed by this trailer, and thought it was going to be a movie. (I'd guess this author must be a little older than me because of how impressed with it I was at the time). It was on my Favorites on YouTube, back when Favorites worked a little differently, and you only added videos you really liked (now, everything is a playlist). I never realised this was actually a whole book that she wrote. It's nice to finally read this whole story and I wish I had known about it ten years ago.

I appreciate how the author actually finished her story, and made it a mystery, which lots of authors are too lazy to do. Because of this there's not much to complain about. Anything that was amateur was overshadowed by the fact that it's impressive because it has so much effort in it, and sometimes you just want to read something like that and not care about imperfections. It powerfully reminds me of 2012, which was one of my favorite years. (Old YouTube, using Anime Studio, and people being more into HP).

I really enjoyed it and it's too bad she mysteriously disappeared, never finishing any sequels. I wonder if some day she might return as mysteriously? Well, you never know, but at least she finished this, which can still be enjoyed years later!

If it really had been a whole movie in that Anime Studio style like I thought it was going to be when I was younger, it would've been pretty timeless, but, I now know it would have taken lots of effort, haha. Still, the old trailer is pretty classic.

I am a very big fan of Harry Potter and the wizarding world and even bigger fan of the Marauders. It seems weird but I know very less about them and yet they seem to be the favorites of mine. And you can always count me in when it comes to a story which gives me more of them. I guess we all want to know about these four friends and the mayhem they caused.
I know James & Sirius are shown as bullies, never giving up any opportunity to curse Severus and that Peter betrayed his friends in the original storyline. But I refused to believe that only these factors define them. Ms Wilt has done a great job in proving it that there is more to them that meets the eye. The adventures were enjoyable and maybe Im hoping as these four grow up their conversation gets to be more and more fun. The fuse of the original story to this and some ironical moments was done brilliantly at few places but in a place or two it seemed forced.
One thing I like to bring in notice, Hermoine has said quite a few times, "you cannot apparate or disapparate in and out of Hogwarts". I guess that was the only discrepancy I could find.
Ms Wilt we wait for more of the marauders...
Please do not stop and continue to give us more...
Anxiously waiting :)

I enjoyed this story. I think I, as many others, have longed for some more backstory about our Marauders.
This story stays within the restriction set up by Rowling while at the same time allowing for new adventures. I liked how nicely things were tied together with the Harry Potter series, almost seamlessly putting them together with no real question marks.

Overall, a very good story, one I enjoyed very much. I would like more stories from this author!

I really enjoyed this novel, I think that every Harry Potter-lover wants more information about the marauders. I think it's the best era and I have already formed images of most off the characters in this novel. I really like this story, but think it's a little to full. You won't really learn about the characters and their backgrounds. The things that you learn about James Potter and his friends are really personal, so it's difficult to read for people like me, who have already an image formed of the characters.
Overal; I liked this novel and I am seeing forward to read year 2, but sometimes it's difficult to read through the details.

I like that someone wrote a book about Harry's father as a student. It was a good story. What was lacking to me was there was little about the classes, teachers, and other students. The 4 marauders, a young James, Sirius, Lupin, and Petrie were well done, as was their search, but if we didn't already know something about the teachers and Hogwarts, they would have been pencil sketches. If the author wrote more of the series, I would read them, but I would hope for more from Wilt on that front. I think writing about something that is history, for which we already have some information from the present stories, is not easily done and I like that the author chose to do so.

This book was simply fantastic. I absolutely loved all the subtle hints at the future that plays out in the Harry Potter series and I just loved the fact that Sirius was exactly how I imagined him to be at this age. Although it was a little sad when James saw a glimpse of Harry saying good bye to his son at Platform 9 3/4 and thinking it was himself. I've been waiting for JK Rowling to do something like this and she just hasn't so I'm very excited that someone else is and that it is written so well. I do hope that this series is continued!

[Spoilers! kind of]

I absolutely love this! As a massive potterhead and a hardcore fan of the mischievous marauders (except Pettigrew. I mean, who doesnt hate him, huh? ) I enjoyed loads of moments in this fic.
Well written with a gripping storyline and interesting hiding places of the sceptor pieces. When James travelled to the future and saw Harry and Harry's sons and thought Harry was himself, honestly, I cried.
Mischief managed. I'm so waiting for the second year of the marauders!

So good and stays so true to the original fiction. I missed Dumbeldore in this one, hoping to see a bit more of him in the next adventure!
