I'm not exactly sure when I fell in love with books. Probably on my mother's knee listening to her read Dr. Seuss to me. I do remember that I was barely old enough to cross the street by myself when I discovered the delights of the local library. Could anything be more wonderful than spending summer days surrounded by stacks of Nancy Drew mysteries? Over the years I fell in love with Victoria Holt, Jane Austen, Agatha Christie, and J.R.R. Tolkien just to name a few. I read poetry, essays, biographies, and plays. In fact, I read anything I could get my hands on.

Years later (no, I'm not admitting how many) I'm still an avid reader, and my tastes are still as varied as they were in my youth, which I suppose helps to explain why I enjoy writing regency historicals under the name of Deborah Raleigh, as well as my contemporary paranormals as Alexandra Ivy. For now that is enough to keep me busy, but who knows what the future might hold!

I do have a few other loves in my life besides reading and writing, the most important being my unbelievably patient husband, David, and my two sons, Chance and Alexander. Without their constant support and belief in me, I never could have been able to follow my dreams. They are truly my heroes.

4 I Wanted More Of Cassie Stars

I liked this book a lot but I wanted it more focused on Cassie and Caine than the rest of the characters. I was especially disappointed of how much space Gaius occupied.

3.5 Re-Readable Stars

This is the tale of Cur Caine and Seer/Prophet Cassie. I did want a little more focus on the romance between the two but overall, I liked how the development of their relationship was depicted. A number of characters from previous books make a appearance throughout the book, as everyone tries to stop ‘the dark one’.

Again, Levet brings humour to the tale, as he has in the books that came before this, although a little bit more of him this book was needed.

This was overall an enjoyable re-read, it’s been years and years since I last read this but it’s held up well, and reading it without re-reading the others was perfectly fine.

94p on Amazon 10th July 2019 (I love a good bargain!)

3 plus stars = pretty good.

I liked the bits with Caine and Cassie in Fear the Darkness, but unlike the early books the romance was a really small part of the story and Cain and Cassie's romance was pretty straight forward.

I...liked...the rest but gosh, there were so many past and future characters in the book that I think that almost everyone in the series turned up -that's a slight exaggeration but it sure felt like the whole gang was there. While I liked seeing Viper, Styx, and Salvadore, and the others, having such a large cast meant there were thread shifts galore and I wasn't prepared for bouncing around between those threads - including ones for the bad guys - quite so much. But, that said, I was really happy that Levit had a good part for a change and that he wasn't just comic relief and the usual iritant for the hero.

The reason that we waited so long for Cassie and Caine's story is that the background series arc with the Dark Lord finally came to a head in Fear the Darkness. So, in case you were wondering if this was the end of the Guardian's of Eternity, you needn't worry - I don't think that Ivy is ending the series soon. There are two things left open at the end Fear the Darkness (one mildly cliffhanger-y, but not the drive you nuts kind) and Ivy was obviously grooming a new vampire leading man in Roke the vampire chief of Las Vegas, though I think that I might have heard that Santiago and the mist walking female vamp Nefri from the previous book are up next - which would make sense in some ways because of a certain tie that Santiago has with one of 'loose threads'.

The heroine was sweet and in this book we kind of go back in time a few weeks to discover what happened with these two and we see the things happening again from their pvo. It was nice but I think I am getting tired of this series.

Caine the cur who tried to kill the Salvatore, the King of Weres is back. He has had his prophecy fulfilled and is now a pure bred Were and no longer a cur. He is also the protector to Cassie, the last prophet and the only person with glimpses of the future.

Their story takes them into the mist to battle against the Dark Lord. A battle that leaves Caine in half human/half wolf form. Cassie's quick thinking and faith in him saves him.

This was another great installment in this series. All the former heroes and heroines are here for the big boss battle. There is also the minor villain, Gaius, who seemed to have a change of heart. But is that what it really seems? And the very end of the book has me looking forward to see what happens next. Levet better be ok. I'm very fond of him too.

All in all, worth the 4 Stars I gave it. Enjoyed this book immensely.

Review courtesy of Dark Faerie Tales

Quick & Dirty: Great installment for fans of the series, with a dark and creative world. Had me hooked, can’t wait to start this series from the beginning.

Opening Sentence: The abandoned silver mine in the Mojave Desert wasn’t the first place someone would expect to encounter Styx, the current Anasso.

The Review:

Fear the Darkness begins with Cassie and Caine on the run. Cassie is a prophet and many people would like to use her to further their own power. Cassie has spent most of her life locked up before she was rescued by Caine. Because of her imprisonment, Cassie is quite naive and inexperienced with the world. She doesn’t really know how to act around people. Her immaturity is quite funny at times and Cassie eventually learns to adapt to her new life as a much stronger woman. Meanwhile, Caine is uber-dedicated to Cassie. He doesn’t like to leave her side even when he is checking on their safety. He was a little clingy but I still found him to be quite hot.

Starting a series, nine titles in can be a little bit intimidating. The Guardians of Eternity is a complex world of vampires, werewolves and other supernatural creatures. I was immediately swept into this world that also includes hidden dimensions. Unfortunately, I wish I hadn’t started at book nine with Fear the Darkness. I was never really lost in the story but keeping track of the huge cast of characters was a little bit daunting. I also felt like the previous books secrets weren’t ruined for me, just enough information was revealed to further the plot, and there were enough hints that make me really want to pick up the rest of this series.

As I mentioned above, the cast of characters in this series is quite huge, so almost half of this book isn’t focused on their relationship but the ongoing storyline with the Dark Lord. The point of views jumps from many different characters, good and evil. The only real problem I had was in the middle where a battle had obviously happened but it really wasn’t discussed except to know that it had happened. (I wonder if this event happened in one of the previous novellas? If that is the case, then I understand why it was omitted.) Thankfully, the final battle was not glossed over at all.

While the relationship wasn’t the focus of Fear the Darkness, the novel does focus on a world that has been creatively built up with a truly evil villain and supernatural creatures who just want to save the world. With just this one taste of the world, I would pick up the beginning of this series just to see how it got to this point. I definitely want to learn about certain characters from this series, especially Styx.

Notable Scene:

He ruthlessly arranged her slender body beneath him, settling between her legs and propping himself on his elbows to gaze down at her startled expression. “Let’s get two things straight,” he growled.

She remained silent a long minute, no doubt trying to decide whether she wanted to hear what he had to say or punch him in the nose for behaving like a caveman.

At last curiosity won out. “What?”

“I was born to become your mate.” He placed a hand over her mouth when she would have protested. “Just listen.”

She rolled her eyes, waiting for him to remove his hand before muttering her opinion of males and their deficient DNA. But thankfully she made no effort to escape. “Fine, I’m listening,” she at last conceded.

“My destiny has always been to protect you. Always.” He caught and held her gaze, laying bare his heart without hesitation. “And if you ever try to take that away it will destroy me.” He heard her breath catch at his blunt honesty, a startled tenderness flowing through their mating bond.

FTC Advisory: Zebra/Kensington provided me with a copy of Fear the Darkness. No goody bags, sponsorships, “material connections,” or bribes were exchanged for my review.

Fear the Darkness is Cassie and Caine’s story. It has been a while coming and I’m glad it finally got here.

Cassie is one of the were “twins” although I believe there is 4 of them, they are called twins. Each if Cassie's, sisters already bagging (Mating) one of the big hot alpha’s of the previous books…it was time for her story. Cassie has been living in a cave, literally, held prisoner by the uber evil...because she is the prophet. She is rescued by Caine and has been on the run with him from everyone because everyone wants to own the prophet and she just wants to be free.

Caine was a cur, a bitten were, and he would stop at nothing to become a full were…even make a deal with the evil himself. In a previous book, he is magically transformed into a pure blood were. He finds himself in the position of protecting the innocent Cassie from the world. The Dark Lord, now a young beautiful woman wants Cassie and will stop at nothing to obtain her, including gory murder and mayhem.

With all paranormal romances, this book had action, murder, battles, vampires, weres, fairies, demons, gargoyles and the such...but Ivy usually uses more humor to balance out the story. Fear the Darkness didn’t have as much humor as previous books, mainly I missed Levets wit. Yes, there was some but not as much as usual and it was definitely missed. There was however mammoth sexual tension from the start which continues to build as the book proceeds.

Many of the characters that we’ve come to appreciate throughout this series make a strong showing. Although I was disappointed in the reunion/down play of the sisters all finally reunited. It seems that I've been waiting for this forever and it was minimally included.

In the end, I enjoyed Fear the Darkness...but I think my anticipation and excitement for Cassie and Caine’s story as well as the ultimate battle with the Dark Lord still left me wanting. I’m giving Fear the Darkness 3.5 stars.

My rating :

I got this ARC via Netgalley in exchange for my honest opinion. Alexandra Ivy has done it again. I loved this latest book in her "Guardians of Eternity" series even more than the last one. It was so exciting! Of course , Càine has long been one of my favorite alpha males. He's the original bad ass no longer since he has found Cassandra, his true mate. Cassie is the prophet. Caine has his work cut out for him as he tries to save his mate from the Dark Lord. This book has everything that kept me întereted from the first page through the last. Hot alpha males, kick ass females, non stop fireworks, romance & an unexpected twist at the end. Oh, and don't forget the requisite HEA. Did I mention how much I loved this book? Please, don't stop writing this series, Ms. Ivy.

Sterne: 4

Covergestaltung: gut
Schreibart: gut
Thematik: gut

You know what they say about Karma right? Well I'm sure Caine certainly does! He's spent so much time being an evil bastard that fate has come up with the most delicious punishment. He got his wish to turn from cur to a pureblood Were but at the same time he has taken on the task of protecting the most valuable creature in the world from dark forces. Unfortunately for him, he finds her irresistible and his newly found conscience is firm on not taking advantage of her naivety and innocence.

Now one might think that Cassie would be a boring snooze fest of a character in a paranormal world due to said innocence but that's just not true. She's smart, sassy and a fast learner. Her naivety and innocence comes not from a prudish mind but from being locked up for so many years, unable to so much as socialize with anyone. Cassie is a grown woman, beautiful and tough but she also doesn't completely understand the world around her, giving her a child-like mentality and views from time to time, which doesn't help Caine's dilemma one bit.

Cassie may be new to the world, but that doesn't mean she blindly follows Caine or lets him boss her around, she gives as good as she gets, even going so far as to call Caine out on him being a "sexist dog" when he wants to always be the one she depends on for protection. She isn't afraid of him or his sometimes cranky moods or the fact that as a full blood Were he's almost as big as a car and twice as mean. Cassie is most entertaining once she knows what she wants (Caine) and goes after it (him).

The sexual tension was present from page one, Caine wants Cassie but he doesn't want to hurt or take advantage of her, something completely new and baffling at times for him. He isn't used to feeling something other than lust for a female and to have his bad ass self WANT to protect and care for such a pure creature such as Cassie drives him nuts for a few pages. Thankfully, Fear the Darkness doesn't spend too much time on the "will they or won't they" battle between Caine and Cassie because there's a much bigger obstacle in their way. I'm grateful for this because frankly, Caine and Cassie are just too combustible to be kept from each other for so long. They're a pretty hot couple that will definitely make you re-think the whole "Team Vampire" thing (If you were inclined in that direction before).

Fear the Darkness is definitely filled with blood, danger, death and mayhem, it wouldn't be a paranormal romance if there wasn't at least one bloody fight would it? Keeping it balanced and from becoming an endless nightmare for her characters, Alexandra injects just the right amount of humor to distract everyone from the conflict, even if it's only for a moment. One of my favorites? Cassie's first taste of wine and pizza.

Having read Alexandra Ivy's Guardians of Eternity series from the beginning and loving each one of her alpha males, I'm going to have to say here and now that Caine is officially my favorite. I was mildly intrigued by him when he was a cur, he had hints of decency in him but it was never more apparent than when he saw Cassie for the first time. He may not be as tortured as Styx, Viper or even Salvatore, King of the Weres, but he does have that whole "Will kill to protect" attitude and as bad as he can get, his tender way with Cassie kind of cancels out his cold hearted, bad ass factor.

Fear the Darkness is a great read from beginning to end and definitely leaves you wanting more from the Guardians of Eternity and of course, leaves you with the feeling that the end of the battle is only the beginning of the war.

Vampires, Werewolves, Witches oh my! Guardians of Eternity
Book 9, Fear the Darkness has it all with some possessive, alpha male action, steamy romance, good vs. evil and of course a gargoyle that will make any girl giggle. If you have not read the previous books in this series, I would highly recommend doing so. While this book can stand on its own, there are a number of previous story lines that lead up to this one and explain the various creatures that appear throughout the story.

Caine is a pureblooded werewolf on the run with Cassie, a prophet and a werewolf that cannot shift to her animal form. With Cassie being the only prophet in existence, there are a number of power hungry demons that would kill to get their hands on her, including the Dark Lord.

With a minion, Gaius, doing the dirty work, the Dark Lord will stop at nothing to have the seer and take a human form once again in order to travel away from the prison that has held the Dark Lord captive for years. Already in possession of the one of the twin infants required for the transformation, the Dark Lord uses Gaius’s love for his dead wife against him to try and find the missing twin and gain access to a physical body once again. When the Dark Lord manages to capture Cassie and Caine, they must overcome the fear and pain to see beneath the surface and find the love that can save them.

Styx and Viper know that something bad is coming. After seeing a symbol written by the prophet, they are searching endlessly to find her and the cur turned werewolf that protects her. Knowing that they must protect the twin infant that is in their care, they are well aware that the Dark Lord will be attempting a kidnapping. When their efforts fail, and both the child and the prophet are captured, they have to work together to come up with a plan before it is too late. With the help of their friends, family, a gargoyle, and a number of mystical creatures they must fight for their lives and tip the balance in their favor.
For those of you that are paranormal fans, this is a series you don’t want to miss. While many series focus on one or two types of mystical beings, I love that this series branches out to a number of creatures.

The banter between the characters is always funny and of course the addition of Levit, the mishapen gargoyle that always sweet talks the ladies in french, makes for some lighthearted fun amidst that danger.
The males in this series are alpha all the way and when they get protective of their women, things always get interesting. What is even more fun, is that their women are never afraid of their men and have no problem putting them in their place. They are bad asses and can kick ass just as well as their men can. The sweetness in all of the chaos of this story is the romance between Caine and Cassie. While Caine is determined to stay a protector and not get involved, Cassie has other plans. Her innocence and his determination to protect it, becomes a subject of argument and the relationship between the two of them is to enjoy.

The way this story ends leaves me curious as to what happens next and I am anxious for book ten. Always an adventure, with some steamy sex, a few laughs and a lot of action, Guardian’s of Eternity does not disappoint.

Review of Fear the Darkness by Alexandra Ivy

This is book 9 in the Guardians of Eternity series. I had read the first 4 books, have books 5 and 6 sitting in my TBR pile, but haven’t stayed current with the series. I will have to rectify that. I forgot how much I enjoyed Ms. Ivy’s books.

Because I haven’t read all the books, there were some characters and plot threads that I was unfamiliar with. So I would get a little distracted at some points, trying to make connections and understanding the significance of some plot developments. But that was no fault of the author’s. While it is best to read this series in order, I was able to follow along with and enjoy the book.

This series does not rely on the mating bond or deep immersion into another species powers or world. While those things are present, this is really a series about warriors battling an evil trying to take over the world. If you didn’t know they were vampires or shifters, you could think this was a modern day king and his knights. So I recommend this series if you like lots of action and battles with your paranormal.

Cassandra is one of four Were sisters that were separated at birth. She has been imprisoned for all of her 30 years by demon because she is also the Prophet. She has visions of the future that both sides need to know. She is an interesting mix of knowledge, because she sees the future, and naivete, because she has never experienced the world outside her prison.

Caine is a Were who has sworn to protect her. Here’s where the previous book would have helped me. Apparently, Caine has a shady past and helped out the bad guys but redeemed himself by literally stepping in front of Cassie and saving her life at the expense of his own. Now he is on the run with her, saving her from the bad guys, and trying not to give in to their desire for each other. Caine doesn’t think he is worthy of Cassie and he also doesn’t want to tie her into a relationship when she has just started to experience life.

So while they are unsuccessfully trying not to fall into love and bed with each other, the Dark Lord who was imprisoned by the Goddess of Light is plotting how to get out of his prison and unleash his demons on the world. There is a great battle scene at the end of the book that requires everyone to band together, from the tiniest warrior to Cassie and her gift of prophecy. These books have individual action and responsibility as a recurring theme. That one person’s decisions and choices can change the future and the world both for good and for bad. We get to spend a lot of time inside the head of Gaius, the Dark Lord’s general. It gave a depth and complexity to the book to see that he has what he thinks is the most important reason of all for the evil he is doing.

If you like lots of action with your vamps and shifters and even some fey, and just enough hot sex scenes, and you are looking for a nice long series to sink your teeth into (pun intended), then start with book one but definitely check this series out. I’m going to start a reread and catch up so I’m there for the final battle!

Alexandra Ivy is the queen of the alpha male and Kicka$$ female leads. Action, romance, and a fast moving story..what more can you ask for?

Description:

Her Visions Lead Her To Danger

Beautiful Cassandra is a Were, a prophet both vulnerable and defiant, blessed with visions that portend the fate of the world. A rare and delicate creature, Cassie must be protected at all costs. Enter Caine, a powerful cur turned pureblooded Were whose recent tangles with a demon lord have left him in serious need of redemption. Caine is duty-bound to keep Cassie out of danger—and that means resisting his potent urge to seduce her.

And Only He Can Save Her

As Cassie's mysterious visions lead them in and out of danger, Caine believes he has found his true mate, the woman with whom he is bound for all eternity. Cassie is both charmed and frightened by Caine's magnetism, and unsure if he—or her feelings for him—can be trusted. But Cassie can't afford to doubt Cain now. A deadly enemy bent on destruction is closer than they realize—and only they can keep chaos from ruling the world.

My Thoughts:
For the first time in this series the story Arc was more prevalent then the romance. Yes we get the Cassie and Caine story and both characters were well written and have great chemistry. Cassie is a bit too much of a timid minny then again Caine was overbearing in his protectiveness. However the major part of the book is the final (or is it) duel between the Dark Lord and our heroes. We finally find out whats up with the twins and we have appearances by the majority of characters in earlier books. While I was reading I thought great this story arc is finally finishing and we can focus on the romance and the really interesting world that AI has created however I don't think it is over and that saddens me. I admit to being over this story arc and was disappointed when I found it isn't.

I have this story 3.5 stars I liked it..I didn't love it. I loved seeing my favorite characters back and loved the final fight between Dark Lord and Styx/Dark Lord and the Goddess. That being said other parts did drag a bit for me and I prefer the Romance being the main part of the story and the arc being the secondary plot. I hope the next book changes back. Yes I would recommend this book...the rest of the series I adored and you need to read this book for the final confrontation.

Prophecies and the cryptic predictions that come with seers are a favorite element in books for me. The tension and speculation that is added to a book by this makes the pages fly by with anticipation. I have loved Cassandra from the moment she was introduced in this series. I loved the fact that she misunderstood many things due to her naiveté and taking things quite literally. Thus I have been looking forward to this book.

Caine was incredibly devoted to Cassandra. He did everything within his power to give her a sense of normalcy. He saw her as a woman, not the prophet. He also had an incredible patience with her and her naiveté. Caine is also a character that I have enjoyed reading since his introduction to the series. I like reading the bad guy who eventually sees the error of his ways and decides to make a positive change.

I need a love story in romance books I read. I want to be swept away in the chase as the hero and heroine find their way to their happily ever after. Cassie and Caine’s love story seemed to take a backseat as the Dark Lord got closer to crossing over from the hell dimension.

In my opinion at least half of Fear the Darkness focuses on past characters and the strengths they bring to the fight against the Dark Lord. Readers are also given a view from team Dark Lord and how they plan to free it from its prison and the reasons they are fighting for team Dark Lord. I always enjoy multiple perspectives, so the page time with Gaius was interesting.

The things that didn’t work for me: Caine is incapacitated for a ridiculous amount of time (this really took away from the romance,) I felt like I was reading a book focused more on the Dark Lord and its desire to escape its prison than a romance.

I did enjoy the book. I absolutely will continue the series. I’m curious what will happen with several of the characters, especially after what the end revealed. Ivy also introduced a yummy new vampire. I’m looking forward to her plans with him.

“You’re, without doubt, the worst liar I’ve ever met.”
“Hey.”
“Trust me, that’s a compliment, pet,”-Caine and Cassie

Fear the Darkness is the ninth book in the Guardians Of Eternity series.I wanted to read Cassie and Caine's story for so long a time.
Cassie is one of the four were quadruplets. Each sister has finally found happiness and it's time for Cassie to do so as well.Once a mere cur,Caine, has now become a pure blood were.Actually, this happend in Beyond The Darkness so I would suggest you read all the former books before reading this one.
After escaping from the cave Cassandra was being held, she and Caine head to Las Vegas where one of her visions,oh did I mention she's a prophet?,showed her that something important will occur. When their task there is completed they leave and fall right into a well organised trap.
I loved Cassie and Caine's story.Although it wasn't as humorous as the previous books were and I have to add that this book needed more Levet. In Fear the Darkness we only see him four or five times. But in the end he is the one that will save them all from the demon Lord.So why should you read it?The answer is simple.Lots of sexy vampires, werewolves, witches and one to-die-for hilarious gargoyle.
I'm looking forward to reading Darkness Avenged the tenth book in the series,Santiago and Nefri's story, available in June 1st 2013.

Fear the Darkness is the ninth book in The Guardians of Eternity series. Cassie, a were, is the only known prophet. Caine was once a cur but was transformed into a full blooded were. He has taken the role of protector, but his feelings for Cassie go beyond duty.

I absolutely loved Cassie and Caine together. She has basically been held a prisoner her whole life. She is naïve in some ways, especially when it comes to the opposite sex. Caine is seeking redemption for his past mistakes, and wants to do the honorable thing by fighting his attraction to Cassie. I am so happy that it wasn’t a long fight because the chemistry between them sizzles before they even touch. As much as I enjoyed seeing the relationship between Cassie and Caine unfold I was just as happy to see some of my favorite characters return, as well as a couple of new ones. The story began with my two favorite characters, Styx and Viper. I could be entertained for hours just reading the banter between these two! There was a new vampire that came to Styx’s aid, named Roke. We really didn’t get a lot of information on him, but there are indications we haven’t seen the last of him.

The Guardians are trying to eradicate the Dark Lord, which leads to a really suspenseful read. I have followed this series from the beginning and I enjoy Ivy’s writing. This latest book was full of action, and for the most part it moved at a good pace. I do wish the story would have been a little heavier on the romance, but I understand why the book was written like it was; Fear the Darkness really lent some closure to Bound to Darkness.

Fear the Darkness wasn’t my favorite book in the series, but I still enjoyed the read. I wouldn’t hesitate in reading future books, and I would certainly recommend the series to fans of the paranormal romance genre.

Fear the Darkness is the ninth book in the Guardians of Eternity series by Alexandra Ivy. The Guardians of Eternity is one of the series that I will keep and cherish forever. This is due to the fact that it has so many key elements that I enjoy. Humor, passion, and deep plot lines. Fear the Darkness fell perfectly into place with this series. If you have not read the previous eight books I think that you might miss out on a lot of what is going on. Caine is the bad boy turned good and we have the beautiful Cassandra to thank. They are like a yen and yang of a couple. Caine is dark and once so driven by his own wants that he thought of no one else. Cassandra has been a prisoner all her life with no contact to the outside world. The relationship that weaves its way in to both of them was beautiful and stunning. Fear the Darkness is a complete story, but again there is always the overall series plot line that you will miss. My favorite thing about Fear the Darkness is that Alexandra Ivy took a villain and has transformed him into a beloved and crucial character. To me, an author that can pull you through the series and change your feelings about a character as the story changes, is just amazing. Fear the Darkness didn’t disappoint and was a beautiful addition to this series.

I personally purchased this book and received no compensation for this review.

Cassandra (Cassie) is a pureblood werewolf who was genetically altered in the womb so she could never shift. Purebloods cannot carry a pup to term because of the shift to wolf. When she was born, she and her 3 sisters were separated and hidden. Unfortunately Cassie has spent her life hidden from humanity be an evil dark lord, because Cassie has visions of the future.

Caine is a cur...a bitten human who now turns into a werewolf. It has been his lot in life to always be used and referred to as a "mutt". All Caine wants is to be a pureblood. attaching himself to a promise of this earned Caine a lot of disappointment and death while trying to protect an ethereal blond woman/child. For his sacrifice Caine has been reborn a pureblood wolf who swears to protect Cassie with his life.

Cassie has fallen for Caine, but Caine is determined to keep Cassie safe from all harm, even himself. Caine and Cassie are thrust into the horror of evil incarnate trying to part the mists and rule earth with all the minions of hell by his side. Only Cassie, Caine and one mystery hero can stop evil from destroying the earth. Can these two overcome everyone and everything out to destroy their love? And who is the mystery hero who holds the balance of good and evil in his hands? Time and a wonderful book will tell, 'cause I won't! enjoy Fear the Darkness by Alexandra Ivy!

I presume you know what the book is about. I'm letting you know what I liked or disliked about it.

Wow. I am seriously disappointed in this book. It ended well. Yep. I'll read the next one in the series. Ever the optimist here...

Loved Cassie and Caine's connection, for the most part.

I really enjoyed the first six books of this series. Things (events, plot line, etc.) started to go a bit caddywampus in book 7. Book 8 was confusing as it seemed the plot lines fragmented and went in some strange directions. Meaning they weren't consistent directions with the first six books. The twists and turns didn't really read like twists and turns as more like... that point when a story teller isn't sure where to take the story next and flounders a bit. But I followed because of how strong the connection to the previous books was for me.

Ms. Ivy sure knows how to write attraction, seduction, humor, tension in her romance and those are great things indeed. I hope book 10 swings us back around in that direction. Her Vamps and Weres and their partners are fantastic all on there own. who-ya

And can I just say how much I love Levet? Ms. Ivy has a fantastic character in him. oui

I'd give it 3.5-4 stars. POSSIBLE SPOILERS*********
I really liked the bond between Caine and Cassie..I just wish there was more to it. I found myself equally attracted to the story of Caine/Cassie and with Gaius. Felt almost like the story lines were competing for attention. The piece at the end was good..really happy with Levet:) I felt that Caine/Cassie's ending was a bit rushed..or just needed more closer. I really liked the piece with Gaius in the end. Because of that..assuming he's the next book?!?!

I made it to page 60 and quit, entirely bored. I've read many books in this series and this one is the final straw in the decline of a very formulaic paranormal romance series. When you read parodies of the sub-genre, they are talking about books like you find in this series. Even so, I generally enjoy them, but this one pushed me past my patience threshold. It's just too recycled. The series has lost my interest. This is the story of the prophet werewolf quadruplet - Cassandra, getting together with werewolf protector Caine. Subplot involves ancient vampire Gaius working for the Dark Lord.

I loved Caine and Cassie but hated just about everything else in the book, especially characters that are otherwise intelligent vampire/werewolf etc beings making stupid decisions to add a few extra pages to the book. I was yelling at characters in this book the way you would yell at an idiot in b-movie. "What are you stupid?!? Why are you doing that?!? Argh!!! I DESPISED the end of this book. I'm done with this series...

Bravo Alexandra Ivy!

Most exciting book yet as the crisis with the Dark Lord builds and draws closer and our heroes scramble to find a way to stop her.

In search of answers to her strange visions, Cassandra and Caine are compelled to travel to Las Vegas. But after being secluded from the world for thirty years, Cassandra is unprepared for the wonders of the outside world. Shopping is wonderful, but the crowds are overwhelming. And Caine is unprepared for the strong feelings of protection and want he feels for her.

Meanwhile others are searching for them. Styx and Viper are hot on their heels needing their own answers before the Dark Lord tries to escape again. But the Dark Lord has returned Gaius from behind the veil on a mission to bring both Cassandra and Caine to him.

Question: While Styx having a braid down to his knees is an interesting idea that’s not really a practical thing for a warrior. It can be grabbed and use to strangle or hold him and id can also get in the way of fighting or caught in things.

Footnote: 1) I agree with Cassie about wine. Every time I’ve tasted it, no matter what kind or how good, it tasted bitter, or sharp and just a waste of good fruit juice. For that matter other types of alcohol aren’t much better and I see no sense in ‘acquiring’ the taste. All alcohol seems to do is numb your senses, sometimes to the point of stupidity. It wastes money and can cause liver disease. I’ll stick to the non-fermented fruits, vegetables and grains, thank you very much.

2) Pet peeve time. So nice to see an author use the word ‘alter’ correctly for changing something, instead of using ‘altar’ which is a table in a church.

Fave scenes: Cassie’s dream-walk to the desert, Cassie’s unexpected surprise at Caine’s house and Cassie & Caine’s bonding.

Dia mencengkeram Dara, kekasih belahan hati Gaius, yg mau² saja dipergunakan sbg serdadunya utk menguasai dunia. Tentu saja Styx, sang Annasso berusaha keras mencegah hal ini bs terjadi. Tapi mereka sdh kecolongan duluan dgn diculiknya Maluhia yg penting sbg alat mewujudkan ambisi Raja Kegelapan.

2 1/2
Hmm... Well the first 1/3 of it seemed like a pretty good start for the romance between Caine and Cassie. I was really looking forward to their story and how Caine would be accepted by the others. Only, that acceptance was pretty much anticlimactic as when they finally get together there is no ability to argue/talk, etc... and it happens after the over plot, which is what actually makes this book come to the good level, weeds its way into the romance and pretty much takes over. No more Caine and Cassie, at least not until the end. Instead we get all our favorite characters from before and unluckily they are pretty inept at foiling the Dark Lord's plans. This book is the end of this over plot though I can imagine the DL coming back som other way.

I was happy with the beginning of the romance as Caine was a devoted protector. But in the end it didn't come to fruition for me and fell flat. Their bonding was again, anticlimactic as it just happens, the integration into the pack, etc... Instead we get the Dark Lord plot and demise. It was good but not great. Over all, I was bored in the middle while switching from the Cassie/Caine story to the group and fighting the DL's plans. The end was satisfying so I bumped it up. It was OK to good only and I'm thinking of stopping here as Caine was the book I really wanted to read 2 books back.

I will start out by saying I have not read the first 8 books in the series. Because of this, I found myself a little lost and unsure of all the characters and how they tied into this story. I of course love any book with werewolves, witches, curs, vampires, and demons!

I found this book to be about the battle of good vs. evil and of course a love story! Cassie is the “Prophet” that was altered in womb and is a pure blood werewolf that cannot shift to wolf. She was held captive for 30 years by a demon. Cassie is also gifted (or cursed) with visions of the future- a “true seer”. Caine is a werewolf has been sworn to protect her. The story leads to me to believe that Caine did not always lead life on the right side of the tracks. (This is where I feel reading the first books in the series probably would have been helpful.) At the beginning of this book I found the romance and chemistry between Caine and Cassie to be sweet. Cassie has been sheltered while she was held captive all those years and is new to many worldly things. Caine immediately tries to ignore his attraction to Cassie. The fact that Cassie seems to be clueless of her beauty and sexiness makes it hard for Caine to resist and …..his wolf wants this Were- desperately!

Gaius is a vampire that has sold his soul to “The Dark Lord” in the name of love. His mate Dara was killed and in return for Dara returning from the grave Gaius is indebted to the Dark Lord. Gaius was unwillingly teamed up Sally- a witch Conduit and brother/sister team of curs (which also happen to be capable of magic) Dolf and Ingrid. Gaius despises witches and curs but has no choice to team up with them in their quest to capture the beautiful “seer” pure blood werewolf Cassie and deliver her to The Dark Lord. A lot of this book is told from the view of Gaius. I did enjoy getting in the head of the evil Gaius and The Dark Lord. I gained some insight as to how evil almost tries to rationalize its actions!

This is the first book I have ready by author Alexandra Ivy and I will say I love her witty humor throughout the book. The romance did start out “sweet” between Caine and Cassie but eventually turns out to be hot and super steamy. Unable to ignore the attraction Caine eventually does give in. His wolf wants Cassie as a mate- forever! Cassie is new- and excited about these sexual feelings and urges that Caine brings out of her. She pleads with Caine to take her “innocence” but Caine holds back. He feels he is not worthy of having such a woman as a mate. During all the back and forth sexual tension Caine still has to find a way protect Cassie.

The Dark Lord is looking to resurrect so he may rule with evil. He desires the gift of Cassie’s visions and also seeks the babies created centuries ago; “Alpha” and “Omega”. The Dark Lord encounters The “Phoenix”, Goddess of Light who tries to stop the Dark Lord in his quest to rule by chaos and evil. Everyone comes together in the battle scene to fight the classic battle of ‘Good VS Evil”. (This is another situation when knowing all the characters from previous books in the series would have made things a little less confusing). In the end does the Dark Lord unleash his demons and allow chaos to rule? Does Gaius fulfill his deal with the Dark Load and reunite with his beloved mate Dara? Do Cassie and Caine finally seal their love and mark each other as eternal mates? And finally, does Good or Evil prevail?

I did enjoy the way Cassie changed and grew throughout the book. At the beginning of the story she seemed to be this innocent naive woman. She was unaware of her sexuality and seemed so fragile. As the story progressed Cassie grew aware of her attraction for Caine she became a little temptress. I liked how she also took control and tried to protect Caine when she had a vision and sensed he was in danger. She grew from a fragile shell of a woman to a strong woman that would risk herself and delve into the unknown to try to protect the man she felt so strongly for. I do love this kind of character development/growth in a book.

I was surprised of how much I liked Gaius. Even thought he seemed like a heartless vampire I found myself feeling for him. Throughout the book he mistreated many of the other characters and just had a nasty demeanor. What touched me about him was that all he did was in the name of love. He was determined to pay off his debt to the Dark Lord so he would be reunited with his one true love Dara. I felt it was almost sweet how much he cared and wanted to be with his mate even thought he was an evil/bad person. It was all in the name of love.

I normally enjoy many characters in a book, but there were entirely too many characters in this book. I found myself having to write down character names, roles, and relationships. I did also expect more of a back story for the sister. Since Cassie was one of the main characters in this book I would have liked to know more about sisters and their relationship.

I did enjoy the excitement of the story. The story was not predictable at all and I did find myself wanting to read more to see what would happen next even thought I was confused and flustered by the switching of viewpoints and the number of characters in the book. I do appreciate that author Ivy did note the location at the beginning of each section when the view point changed. (Without this I would not been able to finish this book.)

Overall I did enjoy the book but felt it was hard to follow. The story line was good and most of the characters were well developed (even not having read the previous books). I must say I do love the writing style of author Ivy and loved the story line. Ivy writes with much excitement, drama, humor and action! I would recommend this book to anyone currently reading the Guardians of Eternity Series. I will recommend this series but will definitely stress the importance of starting with Book 1!
