In my usual organized way of doing things, read "Plaza", the second book written by this author first and liked it so well I immediately started this, his first book. Didn't think I could possibly be as impressed by the author's first book as much as I was by Plaza, but expected it to be good.
It was better than good, if anything even better than Plaza, and I was amazed by that. Plaza had elements (Mayan ruins in the jungle, archaelogy) which I am particularly drawn to and sometimes the strictly military can be a little overdone for me. This was strictly military/terrorism and bio-warfare development laboratories with the usual collection of characters, terrorists, Marine strike force group and the scientists.
The author handled the plotline and characters admirably and managed to cleverly sidestep many of the possible pitfalls so many authors seem to fall prey to, with the various relationships. His female characters were particularly well done and well developed, civilians ... none of the tough military types ... but smart, intuitive and tough-minded individuals that operated admirably under extreme pressure.
This is one author that has made it to my must-buy-everything as it is published list with just two books ... and that doesn't happen very often with me.
