Mary lives in Magna, a little town west of Salt Lake City, Utah. Together with her husband, she has six grown children, and six wonderful grandsons and five beautiful granddaughters. She loves to spend time with family and friends--she includes good books as friends!

Mary writes mostly romantic suspense, romance, women's fiction, and she has just begun to dabble in young adult mystery. During her writing career she has been a conference coordinator, workshop presenter, and chapter president for the Utah Chapter of Romance Writers of America. In 2007 she was presented with the Utah RWA service award in acknowledgment and appreciation for outstanding service.

Mary and her husband love to travel, especially to the Caribbean for relaxing, and Italy for the wine. And most recently she discovered she was Irish and Scottish, of course they had to visit Ireland and Scotland. Mary fell in love with both, but the green hills of Ireland felt like home. With the experience from the exotic places she has visited, she is able to fill her books with colorful descriptions of cities, painting a colorful backdrop for her characters.

They are avid concert ‘Ho’s’! Yes, they pretty much want to do them all. They love outdoor amphitheaters the best and attend as many during the warmer months as possible.

Mary and her husband are also enthusiastic college football fans. They have season tickets to the UTES, University of Utah Football and they tailgate every game. They love tailgating so much, that they were married at a tailgating in 1999.
GO UTES!

For those readers who want a story you can put down and do other things...and one that is not going to keep you up until the last page... This is NOT the story for you! But if you are one of those readers who likes action-packed, suspense, on the edge of your seat reads...you will LOVE "Disappeared" by Mary Martinez.

Undercover FBI agent, Tyler Beckett has a new assignment - protect the only witness who saw a murder from the crime boss Tyler has been after for years. Kiera is frightened that the crime boss will kill her next, especially when she is always tracked down and her life is threatened, even while in the safe house. Slowly Tyler and Kiera fall in love, but if the crime lord wants her dead, how will their love ever survive?

What a thrilling read! Thank you Ms. Martinez!

My Review:
This book was full of twists and turns and the suspense was everywhere. When I think back over the events in this book, it is overwhelming with how much action the author really jammed into it. As someone who writes romantic suspense, I am really impressed with this author's ability to create so many different scenes and different sequences and still keep it all totally believable and completely engaging all the way through. There was only a single moment where I stepped back from my reading and said, "Oh come on..." in disbelief, but it was just one little bitty time through a lot of action and events.

This book is about Keira and Tyler. Tyler is an undercover FBI agent who's been working undercover for two years. He doesn't understand why he's not getting anywhere in his investigation until a single night turns everything around and he discovers that the last 2 years work has been in vain. He's not willing to let this investigation go though, so he works it so that he's protecting Keira, the primary witness against a hit man within the organization.

Keira saw the main hit man, that no one has ever seen, for this major crime boss kill a cop in NYC. The problem...he knows she saw him and now is after her so that she can't testify against him. Love Keira...she's an accountant/office type, but this girl is tough! OMG, I love this character. She's smart and quick-acting in a high stress situation (and she finds herself in tons of those.) She and Tyler work so well together!

This book has it all. There's murder, intrigue, a department mole, human trafficking, some smexy romance, lots of trips to Starbucks (yes, I like that as a reader),and some definite hot detectives. The reading of this book was totally addicting and now I am dying to Gabe and Jessica's story. I can promise you that you will see reviews of all the Beckett series on here, because I already love this family! Book #2, Innocent, is supposed to be out in July! ;o)

Keira Cavanaugh, from small town Nebraska, was not finding New York City to be as wonderful as hoped. To make matters worse, she witnessed a murder of a law enforcement officer. And the suspect was an infamous hitman (the Batt) whose name, but not face, was well known by the NYPD.

Tyler Beckett had been undercover at Hancock Industries, trying to find proof that Mr. Hancock was none other than the crime boss DeLuca. Unfortunately, he had not been able to make any progress and was not sure why. That all changed when the description of the Batt provided by Keira was released and Tyler ran into the Batt at the bar where Hancock employees hung over -- it was like looking in a mirror, the resemblance was so close. He realized he was kept around to be the fall guy.

When he finds out that the dead officer was his cousin, Tyler wants to be the officer assigned to protect Keira. This leads to an awkward moment when he shows up at her apartment and she sees the face of her killer, before realizing that they look alike, but are not the same person. Tyler is smitten with Keira (not a good thing considering he is supposed to protect her) and Keira ends up falling for Tyler as well. Much of the story focuses on them getting closer physically and emotionally while trying to avoid the Batt and other DeLuca goons.

This was an enjoyable story with a decent mix of action, mystery, and love. How the ending is too neat and tidy. After spending so much time and energy trying to uncover the truth about Hancock/DeLuca and find the evidence to bring down the criminal enterprise, all of the "bad guys" are caught too quickly and easily. It feels as if the author tired of writing about the action/crime element of the book and wanted to get to the happy ending, so she just rushed to wrap everything up. Because of that, I give it only three stars.

I received a copy of the ebook from Reading Alley in exchange for a review.

Disappear

I met Mary Martinez in my shuttle to our hotel from the Sacramento airport. I'm so glad she introduced herself and told me she's a author. She told me that people thought the Beckett series was erotica because of their previous covers. This series is definitely not erotica.People should learn to not judge a book by it's cover. This series is action packed and fun.

The Beckett family is indeed an interesting and ideal family. The personalities of the group are strong, yet, very individual. The "Elders" (Mom aka Martha] & Dad aka Fred) Beckett, raised their children to be independent and strong. Tyler is a FBI agent. Christine is an Attorney at Law. Matthew is a business man and computer "geek". Jessica is a High School teacher. All have strong patriotic, family unity and integrity principles which they value above life itself. Failure was never an option.

'Disappear' centers mostly on Tyler and his underground agent work
debauched and vacillated. There are strong villain personalities and
a strong victim personality. The foundation for the rest of the series
is, also, set in this first novel. Mary does a great job in setting up
the foundation and the character traits to accompany the reader through
each of the series. If you like romance/mystery you will most likely
enjoy this. It is better than a lot of the CSI series I have watched.

The plot unfolds and has a lot of action. The story line is very good.
The delivery of it is a little shaky in places. There are a couple of
discrepancies in the writing. It is still an enjoyable book if you
don't mind the profanity and the sexual situations and a couple of
explicit scenes.

Topics included in this novel are: espionage, deceit, violence,
trust/mistrust, team-work, love, and family unity, & honor.

I did really like the overall book but hated the language an sex scenes.
The author generously sent me the series in exchange for an honest review,
of which I have given.

However, because of a couple of discrepancies and of couple of places she seemed to be trying to stretch the story out. Because of this I give it a weak four star rating.

Mystery, thriller, huh? Oh, I love those. Do you, too?

Then you should undoubtedly pick this one up. I was hooked from page 1 and devoured this 400 page book in a day or much rather in one sitting except I had to eat and do other chores.

A complete page-turner, this book is a wonderful romance mystery that has a brain-y woman who can stand up for herself (I love those) and a man who doesn’t think any less of her (I love those too). And lots of other characters and an amazing plot you can’t help but marvel at. Everything is just perfect to the T.

The plot, the way it’s written, well etched-out characters and the pace. Ooh!

Wasn’t I saying it was time for a good mystery a while back. I missed these. Ah, the action, the pace. Gotta love them. They are my first loves, well almost. I do love my romance too. And chick-lit, ooh. Ok, I am going way away from this book.

Mary Martinez has done a wonderful job with this book. It will make you rack your brains till the very end and ‘Oh’ and ‘Ah’s at the moves the plot takes. Very interesting and riveting.

And if you love romance, there’s quite a bit for you too. You won’t feel disappointed at all.

Alright, why am I not giving the book that 0.5 star? Umm, well, I didn’t like romance creeping into my mystery book. Don’t get me wrong. I love romance but well, I would have personally preferred a bit less of it. I would say to each his own.

4 frogs - you have to read this book!
Disappear starts with Keira witnessing a brutal murder of a cop outside of her office one night and running for her life. A murder made by a hitman of a crime boss no one has ever seen before. Tyler is an undercover FBI agent who has spent the last 2 years undercover trying to infiltrate the crime bosses team not understanding why he can't make any head way into the organization. That is until one night he meets the reason why. No longer undercover and not wanting to give up the case Tyler is assigned to protect Keira. As they run for their lives sparks fly between them.

I did enjoy this book..it has a good plot, good characters and the story kept moving along at a good pace. I liked the characters of Keira and Tyler and felt myself rooting for them. They had great chemistry.

There are a lot of great secondary characters as well including Gabe and Jessica which will be in book 2 which out in July which I will be reading! I liked Tylers family and am eager to see more of it. :)

This book picks you up from the very beginning and never lets you go. Kiera witnesses a brutal slaying and she reports it. From that point on her life is in jeopardy. The man who was slayed was a cop and it is all hands on deck. Tyler Beckett is an agent but was also the cousin of the slayed officer. He has been undercover but offers to keep Kiera safe. The minute they meet, she thinks he is the killer and Tyler thinks he has gone to heaven. As the two navigate hiding out, they tell each other their stories. Sparks are flying but both are cautious. When she thinks Tyler is killed, she becomes a woman on a mission. She is going to take down the organization that has been in the sex trade business. She is going to make them pay for killing Tyler. Only Tyler is not dead. He knows where to find her though. But she has gone undercover with the help of a friend. He knows she is safe so he can concentrate on bringing the organization. Guess who shows up at the same time. Kiera and Tyler. Yes they get the bad guys and yes he asks her to marry him.

Can't wait to read the next book.

Disappear is an adult suspense romance, about a young woman that witnesses a murder by a local crime boss. When it is discovered that the undercover FBI agent has an uncanny similar look to that of the crime boss he is reassigned as protection for the sole witness. The only problem with this development is the instantaneous attraction between the agent and witness. As the relationship and bond grows, so does the danger when their hidden location is discovered by none other than the mob. This was an immediate romance, but the story was lacking the emotion that I have come to love in a heart stopping romance. This is an entertaining and thrilling story, but it was no everything that I had hoped it would be. For readers more directed toward the suspense end of the novel this is a great book for you. Romance lovers will crave a bit more emotion and detail for the building of such an intense love story.

Disappear (Beckett, #1) is an excellent read. If I could give it 6 stars, I would. This was very well-written, and I *love* the characters! I have already downloaded the rest of the series and started reading the second book--yup, ahead of the other books in my TBR. Lots of twists and turns!

Keep in mind these are thoughts I posted on a separate deleted blog a few years ago. I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This book is very good and very suspenseful. There is a great amount of action in the book. It is a suspense/romance novel. There were so many twists in this book, that I could not stop reading! This book is about Keira who witnesses a murder and has to go into witness protection. The FBI agent (Tyler), who is assigned to protect her in the safe house, and Keira feels an automatic connection and falls in love very quickly. Tyler was an undercover agent sent to infiltrate a crime lord's (DeLuca) inner circle, and Keira ends up witnessing a murder by that crime boss's main hit man (the Batt). I don't want to give away too much, but DeLuca sends the Batt after Keira and Tyler. Lots and lots of action in this thrilling romance! Anyone who loves romance, sexy detectives, CSI (it is referenced a lot in the book), and tons of action, this book is for you! It definitely is can't-put-down-able.

Would have enjoyed this book more if it had been proof read. There were so many errors, that it took away from enjoying the book. The storyline is good and characters were good.....just too many errors to give a better rating. Too distracting. Sorry. Wanted to enjoy it more.
