A basic manual about axolotls, in my opinion ideal for to-be owners. Foreword is not really a foreword, it's more a summary of the book. I enjoyed the short chapter about history. For a non-US residents it is more of a guide to what kind of information to collect (etc. what worms you can get in pet stores in your area). Sometimes there are few sentences repeated in the same wording, sometimes only the same information - which is kind on boring. Still - a solid handbook with nice photos inside.
5⭐ This book is why your research BEFORE getting a pet. Reading it made me realize this is not the correct pet for us which i am very thankful for
Very sensitive to temperature
Can be 7-14"
Too much movement in tank can cause death. Banging on tank's glass, cats staring at it will stress salamander out enough to kill it. Creating hiding spaces for it can help alleviate some stress
Pg.15) they have primitive lungs that can het some oxygen from gulping air at water's surface (like whales). If you axolotl keeps going to surface to breathe the tank chemistry is wrong. Likely build-up of toxic amonia
Cannot put anything smaller than the axolotl's head in the tank due to choking/blockage, so aquarium gravel is a NO. keep bottom clear or use large pieces of slate
Tank started minimum 2 weeks prior to getting axolotl to get its chemistry correct

I felt like the book was very informative. I understood every topic completely. However I am still debating on weather or not to get an Axolotl. I have two Bearded Dragons at home and I am not really use to the aquatic variety. Still, I enjoyed this book.
It was very informational bowl telling me how to completely take care of axoltl telling me things as far as the total price range of the complete tank how to get food Orit Noho bunch of other information bowl assets
A good reference book for axolotl care. I got the epub so I can't say anything about the pictures, but it's one to add to your axolotl reference collection just in case or for just getting started.
