Having read Dead Radiance and enjoyed it, I was expecting to enjoy Dead Embers... and I totally did. In fact, I liked it even more than the first book in this awesome series.
I love that Bryn learned how to fly and I liked her growth in the story. The ending was stellar and I'm really looking forward to reading the final book when it comes online.
I started to like Joshua a little more in this book and found my feelings over Aidan mixed. I'm not sure if Ayer has something planned there, but I look forward to seeing what she comes up with.
You can't fault Bryn's spunk. I love her snarky little thoughts and her tough attitude. She is a very cool heroine and one that is easy to cheer for.
Oh yeah - and Thor! Hello! I really enjoyed reading him. Ayer portrayed him perfectly.
All in all - Dead Embers is a great read that is beautifully written. Ayer has the art of painting pictures with her words down pat. She is one talented writer.

Dead Embers picks up immediately from where Dead Radiance finished. And trust me it was heart wrenching! This book takes a darker turn than book one and it makes the book. The dark undertone takes nothing away but gives everything to the plot. This book takes you further into the world of Norse Mythology and takes you on a thrilling dark twisty ride that will leave you breathless and on the edge of your seat. The romantic parts of the relationship are now flowing a bit easier and are more believable. This is a great follow up to book one! This book is full of emotion and action that anybody who likes books based in mythology will love! A Solid 5 stars!

I was lucky enough to get an ARC of Dead Embers from the author, TG Ayer. I had previously read, reviewed and LOVED the first book in the series, Dead Radiance. So I was overjoyed to get this ARC and to find out what was happening with Bryn and Aidan.
In case you haven’t read Dead Radiance, but have come to read my review, I will try not to have any spoilers in my review. I do try not to spoil things for people anyway, but I am obviously a bit more aware that this is the second in the series.
So anyway, on with my review…
As Dead Radiance had ended quite sad, I was aware going into this book that it would be a sad beginning, but I don’t think I was quite prepared for the pang I felt in my gut and the sting in my eyes. Having previously mentioned about spoilers, I won’t tell you why I was sad because you may not have read the end of the first book yet. But believe me when I say, you need a box of tissues when you start this second book. Since it had been a few weeks or more previously that I had read Dead Radiance, I had… not forgotten, but put the pain of the ending to the back of my mind. So it was a bit of a gut-wrenching start.
This second installment in the series is a journey of discovery for Bryn. It’s definitely an action-packed adventure where she learns more about herself as a Valkyrie, amongst other things.
There are lessons to be learned, but not only by Bryn this time. I can’t tell you too much but what I can say is that right when I was looking the other way, someone betrays someone and it came as a total shock to me. Obviously I can’t say who betrays whom, but I can tell you it blew my mind; not only the betrayal itself, but the reasons behind it. I was left reeling from the fallout. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing.
Bryn has to set off on a journey to find the cure for the poison that ails Aidan and the grand-daughter of a dragon [again, trying not to say too much here] Aidan was poisoned by the trickster God, Loki and it’s now a race to find a cure. There’s only one thing that will cure him and the answer lies in this journey to find a goblet. So Bryn sets off, with an invisibility blanket given to her by the God, Thor and [ insert name ] by her side.
It’s not easy for the two of them to find this goblet; it is after all, held by a Goblin Queen. It’s not easy to sneak past the goblin guards… unless you have a blanket that turns you invisible of course! But still, the twosome have to be careful, they have to remain under the blanket and out of sight, careful not to bump into anything or anyone on their way.
But this journey isn’t the only action in the book. As always Loki, is his usual trickster God self. Ugh. If only I could reach in and strangle him. Or use Thor’s hammer to render him unconscious long enough to tie him up, throw him in a cell and throw away the key. But I digress…
There’s also the fact that the retrievals the teams are on don’t go to plan. The Warriors they are sent to retrieve are covered in poisonous black goo and this extinguishes their glow, meaning they can’t be retrieved because they have met their true death. But what’s causing this poison to spread like wildfire? Why are the teams unable to get to them before they are all tainted?
So with the main storylines intersecting with each other, it comes as another shock that there is another twist in store for Bryn. I obviously can’t tell you what, but I really wasn’t expecting it. There are so many little twists and turns in this book. How so many things can go wrong in such a short space of time, I really do not know. But it does.
I’m really glad how Tee works it all out in the end. She obviously knew where she wanted it to end up, but as it was going along, I wasn’t too sure there would ever be a happy ending. Of course, I can’t tell you whether the ending is happy or sad, that’s something you need to experience for yourself. All I can tell you is that Tee doesn’t leave you hanging on the edge of a cliff. That’s one thing I am really grateful for. With all the ups and downs, twists and turns, I really didn’t want there to be a cliff-hanger ending.
As always, Tee’s writing is flawless. It seems to flow with such grace that you can’t help but be in awe of this woman. There is no reason why she shouldn’t become a best-selling author. I, for one, will be there every step of her journey as an author. I just hope she remembers the little people like me when she reaches stardom!
I love the story of Bryn. She’s such a feisty, headstrong young woman. She doesn’t know how to take things lying down and she refuses to let people walk all over her. That is what I love in a protagonist. It’s what I admire the most. I am probably most glad that as the story goes along, Bryn grows as a person as well as, as a Valkyrie. She has to fight some battles, most of which are internal, it is these that make her blossom and grow.
I love how Tee has developed the plotline of the story and the character that appear in it. One of my favourite characters other than Bryn and Aidan would have to be Odin. He might be some big, scary, bad-ass God, but he’s also a kind of father figure to Bryn. I don’t mean in the ‘All-Father’ kind of way, I mean in the way he cares about her and helps her whenever he can. He doesn’t chastise her just to make a point, he actually cares about what happens to her and what he can do to help her or turn a blind eye whenever he can. He’s the kind of guy I would like as my own father.
All in all, I think that Dead Embers is a wonderful book. Possibly better than Dead Radiance and that is saying something considering how much I truly loved that book!
Tee is one of those authors that like to weave the magical and the mystical and create something that truly is amazing to behold. I am just glad that she chose to share the ARC with me. I will always be grateful for that.
Thank you Tee, for creating such an amazing, awe-inspiring book. I am so glad you chose to set your stories within Asgard. I absolutely love things that have Loki and Thor in them and you haven’t failed to gain my love.

I listened to this book through audible. I am a huge fan of this author and love this series!!!!
The storyline to this book is so exciting…. There really are thrills and chills throughout the whole book, right up to the last sentence of this book
.. And what an ending!!!!! I am so excited to read the next book and find out what will happen next in this amazing series!!! In every book I have read by this author it draws you into the magical world and makes you want to be a part of it and this book is no different. I love the talent that this author has of being able to create such addictive, imaginative and vivid stories that hook you from the first page right up until the last.
I love reading about Bryn, she is full of so much courage and inner strength, I don't think she realises how strong she actually is. She goes through so much emotionally in this book and just when you think that she can't take any more, something else will happen and her strength shines through, you can't help but feel for her and want things to work out for her.

I’m really loving T.G. Ayer’s Valkyrie Series. It got off to a rousing start in Dead Radiance and now the follow-up book 2 in the series, Dead Embers, is a fantastic sophomore achievement. The author has created a fantastic Norse myth based world, with Odin and his chosen warriors, Loki, the Norse Hel, dwarfs, dragons, and everything else you could conceivably want. I love Valkyries. I love the heroine here Valkyrie-in-training Bryn Halbrook. She may face time of problems with her boyfriend stuck in Hel, Odin's chosen warriors dying mysteriously and, oh yeah, that little matter of impending Ragnarok, the ultimate battle, drawing closer, but I’d never bet against an ultimate kick-a** heroine in the making like Bryn. Instead I’m just enjoying the ride.

This series already has me down for the count with running into this one. You step yet again into this exciting fantasy world. Bryn will be the main one that captures you in this. She continues in this one her character growing. She also has other characters that will fill you with their part also. The danger will build with your emotions being plucked. If mythology your thing this one is up your alley. This world will have you into it so much you will not mind how she will have you coming back for more.

Bryn has fought and won the elixir to save Aidan. But her worries have just begun. As I read the last page I cried because I didn't want the book to end . I can't wait to start the next Joshua book (#2 its a companion book to "Dead Embers". And then onto " Dead Chaos". The third book in the Valkyrie Series.
If you like the Thor movies you will love this series... Everyone is there. Thor, Loki, Odin, Freya, and of course there's the Valkyrie All waiting for you in Asgard. Waiting for Ragnarok.

I definitely enjoyed reading this book. It's more solidly based in the world of norse mythology, and you get to experience several levels of growth and development as a fairly new valkyrie along with Bryn. This book is a roller coaster of assumed good intentions with treacherous endings. I'm just itching to read book 2, after the way this book ends. I'd recommend this book to fans of mythology and fantasy, and I'd highly recommend you read this series in order.

No sophomore slump here...This book dives right back into where the action of Dead Radiance leaves off without one second to recover from the end of that book. This continuation kept me on the edge of my reading chair throughout and I can't wait to dive into book 3. Bryn and her cohorts are exciting to read and well rounded characters. That's about all I can say without giving spoilers which I refuse to ever do in a review. I request a copy of this book so I could post a review.

This story starts off right where Dead Radiance ends, so make sure you have read that book first.
I am loving this series, and I am surprised to say that I enjoyed this book even more than I enjoyed the first. Being thrust back into the story so quickly was great, and this is one of those series that I want to marathon read. There is so much going on! I don't want to say anything about the amazing story, SO FREAKING AMAZING, so I'm just going to tell you that you should read it.

The epic saga of Bryn continues as she faces new challenges, ruinous betrayals and heartbreaking mysteries in her attempt to rescue her beloved Aiden from the clutches of Freya and Hel. So well written, set in a flawlessly constructed world, populated by strong characters, The Valkyrie series is a must read for fans of paranormal literature and Norse mythology. Fans of Alexia Purdy and Annie Bellet will want to add T.G. Ayer to their list of go-to authors.

Ok I have to say that this is going to be a case of this book is my new favorite book. it picked up right after the last ended. Questions from the last book will be answered. And this book will have new questions. There is lots of action and love. It will also keep you reading all night until you have finished reading it.

Omg
This book kept me enthralled. The characters,and the twists and turns I didn’t want to put it down. It was so well written if it is the first book you have gotten in the series you really need to go back and start from the beginning. Very interesting and exciting
Really enjoying this series, however long and extremely detailed with information, and an intricately written story about these fantastic gods, valkyries, warriors, ulfr , and other realms and creatures ! Definitely filled with dangerous adventures, action, mystery and a little romance !!

Again what a wonderful exciting masterfully story that contiunes the story of the Valkyrie Bryn and her friends facing so many dangers. I so enjoyed the second book and look forward to reading the next one.

Ayer does well with this fourth book! I love how these characters have changed over time and for the better. Everything has been getting more awesome than the previous story!

A continuation from Book 1 - Dead Embers allows the reader to delve more into this exciting and fast paced world the author has created. With in depth and likable characters this series is quickly becoming one of my faves.

So far a great series! A little modern with a dash of Norse mythology. I like it, a lot! Kind of teenager angsty if that is a word but overall a great read.

A great read all the way around, though the blend of OC (Original Characters) and a classic retelling, feels a little trope, character dynamics hold no surprises if you read a lot of YA.

I'm loving this modern Norse Mythology series. Bryn is a fabulous character with lots of spunk and charm. The story and characters are complicated, complex, compelling, mysterious, and intriguing as well as a lot of fun too. I can't wait for the next book in the series.
