Jeff Mitchell and Lillian Reins are in love. But they both know that their relationship will not work, so they mutually agree to terminate it. On the same night that they agree to end their relationship, Lillian is brutally murdered. Jeff becomes the prime suspect, is apprehended, charged and convicted of the crime. Sent to Death Row for a crime he did not commit, Jeff spends years awaiting his execution. That execution is set for midnight.
Slow, methodical novel questioning the protocol of the American justice system by focusing on one man who is wrongly imprisoned, then sentenced to death, for murder. Nice twist at the very end but really slow read.
