He was the most famous and popular author, dramatist and filmmaker ever to grace the cultural world of Bangladesh since its independence in 1971. Dawn referred to him as the cultural legend of Bangladesh. Humayun started his journey to reach fame with the publication of his novel Nondito Noroke (In Blissful Hell) in 1972, which remains one of his most famous works. He wrote over 250 fiction and non-fiction books, all of which were bestsellers in Bangladesh, most of them were number one bestsellers of their respective years by a wide margin. In recognition to the works of Humayun, Times of India wrote, "Humayun was a custodian of the Bangladeshi literary culture whose contribution single-handedly shifted the capital of Bengali literature from Kolkata to Dhaka without any war or revolution." Ahmed's writing style was characterized as "Magic Realism." Sunil Gangopadhyay described him as the most popular writer in the Bengali language for a century and according to him, Ahmed was even more popular than Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay. Ahmed's books have been the top sellers at the Ekushey Book Fair during every years of the 1990s and 2000s.
Early life:
Humayun Ahmed was born in Mohongonj, Netrokona, but his village home is Kutubpur, Mymensingh, Bangladesh (then East Pakistan). His father, Faizur Rahman Ahmed, a police officer and writer, was killed by Pakistani military during the liberation war of Bangladesh in 1971, and his mother is Ayesha Foyez. Humayun's younger brother, Muhammed Zafar Iqbal, a university professor, is also a very popular author of mostly science fiction genre and Children's Literature. Another brother, Ahsan Habib, the editor of Unmad, a cartoon magazine, and one of the most famous Cartoonist in the country.
Education and Early Career:
Ahmed went to schools in Sylhet, Comilla, Chittagong, Dinajpur and Bogra as his father lived in different places upon official assignment. Ahmed passed SSC exam from Bogra Zilla School in 1965. He stood second in the merit list in Rajshahi Education Board. He passed HSC exam from Dhaka College in 1967. He studied Chemistry in Dhaka University and earned BSc (Honors) and MSc with First Class distinction.
Upon graduation Ahmed joined Bangladesh Agricultural University as a lecturer. After six months he joined Dhaka University as a faculty of the Department of Chemistry. Later he attended North Dakota State University for his PhD studies. He grew his interest in Polymer Chemistry and earned his PhD in that subject. He returned to Bangladesh and resumed his teaching career in Dhaka University. In mid 1990s he left the faculty job to devote all his time to writing, playwright and film production.
Marriages and Personal Life:
In 1973, Humayun Ahmed married Gultekin. They had three daughters — Nova, Sheela, Bipasha and one son — Nuhash. In 2003 Humayun divorced Gultekin and married Meher Afroj Shaon in 2005. From the second marriage he had two sons — Nishad and Ninit.
Death:
In 2011 Ahmed had been diagnosed with colorectal cancer. He died on 19 July 2012 at 11.20 PM BST at Bellevue Hospital in New York City. He was buried in Nuhash Palli, his farm house.

প্রথমবার যখন আঙুল কাটা জগলু ভাই পড়েছিলাম, সেবারে জগলু ভাই, মতি- এদের দেখে যতটা মোহিত হয়েছিলাম। এবারে ততটা হলাম না। ৩ তারা দেয়ার পরেও বলবো, গোটা হিমু সিরিজে আঙুল কাটা জগলু আমার জন্যে বিশেষ স্থান দখল করে রাখবে।

ইংরেজি সাহিত্যে পড়াশোনা করা শীর্ষ সন্ত্রাসী জগলু মিয়ার গল্প। আঙুল কাটা জগলু, তার নিজের আঙুল সব ঠিক আছে, আঙুল কাটেন অন্যদের।
আছে মনসুর মিয়ার মেয়ে মীতুর গল্প, সেই সাথে আছে খালাতো ভাই বাদলের গল্প, এর আগেও বাদলের গল্প পড়েছি। মজার ব্যাপার হচ্ছে আবার বাদলের বিয়ের আলাপ হইলো এইখানে।
এর আগে বাদল ছিলো ফুফাতো ভাই, এখন এই বাদল হইলো খালাতো ভাই। সব মাথার উপর দিয়ে গেলো।
বইটা পড়তে পড়তে বিরক্ত হইছি, অনেক হেসেছি। বইটা অনেক ভালো লেগেছে কেনো ভালো লাগলো বুঝলাম না।

একটা পাখি, চারটা পাখি, তিনটা পাখি।
ইংরেজি সাহিত্যে পড়াশোনা করা শীর্ষ সন্ত্রাসী জগলু মিয়ার গল্প। আঙুল কাটা জগলু, তার নিজের আঙুল সব ঠিক আছে, আঙুল কাটেন অন্যদের।
আছে মনসুর মিয়ার মেয়ে মীতুর গল্প, সেই সাথে আছে খালাতো ভাই বাদলের গল্প, এর আগেও বাদলের গল্প পড়েছি। মজার ব্যাপার হচ্ছে আবার বাদলের বিয়ের আলাপ হইলো এইখানে।
এর আগে বাদল ছিলো ফুফাতো ভাই, এখন এই বাদল হইলো খালাতো ভাই। সব মাথার উপর দিয়ে গেলো।
বইটা পড়তে পড়তে বিরক্ত হইছি, অনেক হেসেছি। বইটা অনেক ভালো লেগেছে কেনো ভালো লাগলো বুঝলাম না।

I like the character Himu. Does that make me illogical even though I'm completely and entirely a logical person? Probably. That's what prompted me to give this book 5 stars. Because well, it's a Himu book. It's funny, hilarious,and light. It shows Himu's supernatural powers. And I enjoyed reading it. I've reread it countless times and every time I feel happier. It's no masterpiece and I know it. But Humayun Ahmed himself is a legend.

লাশ নিয়ে একটা গা ছমছমে কিন্তু মজার একটা গল্প আছে বইয়ে।
ওই অংশটা ছাড়া বাকি উপন্যাসটা পড়তে তেমন একটা ভালো লাগেনি।

থার্টিন/তেরো-কে অনেকেই আনলাকি বলে ধরেন। আমি অবশ্য এসবে বিশ্বাস করি না। বলতে বলতেই বাংলায় একটা গান মনে পড়ে গেলো এই থার্টিনকে ঘিরে।
''আজ মন খারাপের দিন
আজ আনলাকি থার্টিন।"
তেরো নিয়ে এতো কথা কেনো বলছি? কারণ আজ হিমু সিরিজের তেরোতম বই শেষ করলাম। বইয়ের নাম 'আঙুল কাটা জগলু'। আশা করি আমার রেটিং অলরেডি দেখে ফেলেছেন। জ্বি হ্যাঁ। ঠিক দেখেছেন। সলিড ৫/৫। কোনো ফরমালিন নাই এই রেটিংয়ে।
হিমুকে নতুন করে চেনানোর কিছু নাই। সে কোনো সাধারণ মানুষ নয়। মহামানব মাঝে মাঝে মনে হতে পারে তবে কাজকাম দেখলে বেশিরভাগ মানুষ পাগলই বলবে। সে হাঁটে খালি পায়ে, হলুদ পাঞ্জাবি পরে আর মানুষের মনের গভীরে গিয়ে নাড়া দেয়।
এই উপন্যাসে হিমুর পরিচয় ঘটে জগলু নামের এক সন্ত্রাসের সাথে। যে তার শিকারদের আঙুল কেটে নেয়। এর ফলেই তার নাম আঙুল কাটা জগলু। কুখ্যাত সন্ত্রাস জগলু অপহরণ করেন এক বর্ণাঢ্য ধনী ব্যবসায়ীকে। সমস্যা সেটা না। সমস্যা হচ্ছে, হিমুকে এখন এই অপহরণ হওয়া ব্যক্তির মুক্তিপণ হিসেবে যে টাকা দাবি করা হয়েছে সেটা নিয়ে আসতে হবে। বাকিটা আর বলছি না। পড়ে নিবেন নিজ দায়িত্বে।
বরাবরের মতোই এই উপন্যাসটাও হিমুর মজা আর পাগলামিতে ভরপুর। পড়তে পড়তে অনেকবার হেসে উঠেছি। মজা পেয়েছি। হিমু ফ্যানরা তো পড়বেনই। যারা হিমুকে দেখতে পারেন না, তারাও পড়বেন৷ মজা পাবেন। ঘুমাতে যাই। রাত হয়েছে।

বইটা পড়ে মজা পেয়েছি এবং একইসাথে বিরক্তও হয়েছি, সেই সাথে প্রচন্ডরকম ভাবে ভালো লেগেছে । হিমু কে আমার কখনোই সহ্য হয় না আবার কেমন যেন ফেলতেও পারি না। প্রতিবারই হিমু পড়ার পর হিমু আমাকে প্রভাবিত করে। এবারেও তার ব্যতিক্রম হয় নি। কোনো এক অদ্ভুত কারণে আঙুল কাটা জগলু শেষ করার পর আমার ভালো লাগছে। ভীষণই ভালো লাগছে।
এই বই টা আমার এতো ভালো লাগলো কেনো!!

আঙুল কাটা জগলু,পড়লাম।হিমু মানে রসিকতা, হিমু মানে হেয়ালিপণা আর রহস্যময়তা। হিমু মানে হলুদ পাঞ্জাবি আর এতগুলো ভালোলাগা আর আবেগ।
হিমু সিরিজের উপন্যাসগুলো বরাবরই উপভোগ্য আঙুল কাটা জগলু, তার ব্যতিক্রম নয়।
জগলু নামকরা সন্ত্রাসী, আঙুল কাটা যার কাজ।জগলুমিয়া অদ্ভুত এক চরিত্র।
বাদলের পাগলামী,মনসুর,মিতু প্রত্যেক চরিত্রটি ছিল সুন্দর আর নিখুঁত।
মানুষ বেঁচে থাকলে যত ধরনের লম্ফ,জম্ফ কিন্তু দম ফুরালে ঠুস!!
একজন মানুষের সঙ্গ জীবিত অবস্থায় যতটা সুখকর হোক, মৃত অবস্থায় তার সাথে কেউ এক গাড়ীতে যেতে নারাজ।
এটাই সত্য,আর এটাই বাস্তব।

হিমু সিরিজের উপন্যাসগুলো বরাবরই উপভোগ্য আঙুল কাটা জগলু, তার ব্যতিক্রম নয়।
জগলু নামকরা সন্ত্রাসী, আঙুল কাটা যার কাজ।জগলুমিয়া অদ্ভুত এক চরিত্র।

The great failure and success of Humayun Ahmed is the brevity of his books. While this has disqualified him from being considered a serious novelist, I suspect this has also greatly endeared him to his vast readership.
Angul Kata Joglu certainly falls in the same pit of being neither a novella nor a short story nor a long story. Despite this and many of its other shortcomings, you cannot quite put it aside. With Himu, Humayun Ahmed created a whole sub genre of neo-realist postmodern fiction in Bangla, that is at once unique and ubiquitous. It is unique in its presentation of everyday events through the eyes of Himu, who I am sure has thousands if not millions of Bengali reading fans, for introducing a new lifestyle approach altogether. When the harsh and often vulgar realities of city life brings one to the verge of madness,anger and subjugation, Himu preaches and demonstrates a novel way of dealing with it. An approach that could be termed "take it easy" or "everything is gonna be alright". A kind of Hakuna Matata approach that even the writer is aware may not be completely conducive and agreeable to the constantly suspicious and beaten-down urbanites, such as Himu's bitter uncles that hold him responsible for corrupting his gullible children to his strange ways.
In Angel Kata Joglu, the premise is of Himu talking his way into becoming a confidante to a top terror who kidnaps a rich businessman for ransom. While ferocious at first sight, Joglu is also shown as a kind hearted father who longs to meet his sick son but is unable to do so as police will surely catch him if he attempts to. Himu links him to a surrogate son of sorts and strikes up some strange relationships with two prison inmates and the daughter of the kidnapped rich man. In typical Himu fashion, there are absolutely absurd scenes such as the one where Himu is transporting a dead body of Joglu's associate to his ancestoral village and the driver of the van asking if he can play some music since the drive is long. Himu agrees to this and they drive on in the darkness with the unclaimed dead body of a terrorist killed in police custody, with some strong dance music playing in the car. This adds excellent comic value but the writer's credit lies in pointing out the worth of human life, the questionable law and order practice and the innate righteousness of the general mob that will refuse to identify with anything remotely wrong. It is poignant but in such a subtle way that blink you will likely dismiss it as crass comic antics.
Eventually some characters find retribution and some fall in unrequited love. Maybe the greater point that many Himu books make, at least for me, is, it is not the destination but the journey that makes the human condition .

দেশের কুখ্যাত সন্ত্রাসী- আঙ্গুল কাটা জগলু হিমুকে পুলিশের ��নফরমার হিসেবে সন্দেহ করছে | তাই জিজ্ঞাসাবাদ করার জন্য জগলু তার লোকদেরকে পাঠিয়ে হিমুকে তার কাছে ধরে নিয়ে আসে | হিমু যে পুলিশের ইনফরমার না, এ কথাটা হিমু কোনোভাবেই জগলুকে বিশ্বাস করাতে পারছে না | তারপর হিমুর মুখ থেকে সত্যি কথা বের করানোর জন্য জগলু তার লোকদেরকে হিমুকে জল চিকিৎসা দিতে বলে |
জল চিকিৎসা দেওয়ার জন্য হিমুকে অন্য রুমে নিয়ে যাওয়া হলে , হিমুর সেখানে মনসুর গ্রুপের মালিক মনসুর সাহেবের সাথে পরিচয় হয় |মূলত টাকার জন্য মনসুর সাহেবকে জগলু ধরে নিয়ে এসেছে এবং
মনসুর সাহেব ২০ লক্ষ টাকা দিলেই ছাড়া পেয়ে যাবে | মনসুর সাহেবের মেয়ে মিতুর টাকা পাঠানোর কথা কিন্তু মিতু টাকা না পাঠিয়ে পুলিশের কাছে খবর দেয় | তাই জগলু রাগে মনসুর সাহেবকেও জল চিকিৎসা দেওয়ার সিদ্ধান্ত নেয় | হিমু নানারকম অদ্ভুত ও হাস্যকর কাজ করে জগলুর বিশ্বাস অর্জন করে এবং মিতুকে তার বাবার জন্য টাকা দিতে রাজি করায় | তারপর সিদ্ধান্ত হয় যে, হিমু মনসুর সাহেবকে তার বাসায় পৌঁছে দিয়ে মিতুর কাছ থেকে টাকা নিয়ে আসবে |
জগলু হিমুর সাথে যোগাযোগ রাখার জন্য একটি মোবাইল দিয়ে দেয় | হিমু টাকা নেয় ঠিকই কিন্তু জগলু তাকে ফোন করে জানায় যে সে এখন এক ঝামেলায় আছে তাই টাকাটা এখন নিতে পারবে না এবং হিমুর কাছেই টাকাটা রেখে দিতে বলে |
টাকার সুটকেস নিয়ে হিমু কিছুদিন ঘোরাঘুরি করার পর সুটকেসটি
মনসুর সাহেবের বাসাতেই রেখে আসে এবং বলে আসে যে জগলু টাকা চাইলে সে এসে সুটকেসটি নিয়ে যাবে | হিমুর এই কাজ দেখে মনসুর সাহেব ও মিতু খুবই অবাক হয় |
অবশেষে মনসুর সাহেব ও মিতু কানাডায় চলে যায়| মিতু হিমুকে দেখতে না পারলেও কানাডা থেকে সে প্রায়ই হিমুকে চিঠি লিখে পাঠায় | পুলিশ অনেকদিন ধরে জগলুকে ধরার চেষ্টা করছিল কিন্তু সফল হচ্ছিল না | হঠাৎ একদিন তারা জগলুকে ধরতে সফল হল |

Typical Himu!
This story revolves around a terrorist, his gang and his son mainly. Himu as usual, with his weird cluster of ideas entraps A-Z characters inhibiting this story, from his Khala, Khalu and Badol(with whom he introduces his weird song-therapies). There is also this rich man Mansoor Saheb and his daughter, who at first takes Himu to be a nuisance and behaves so, but as usual gets smitten by his weird atrocities and gets convinced by him to lend a Microbus for a trip to do a funeral of an anti-social. There is Subhro, a good boy whom Himu introduces to the titular character to make him gap the lack of his son. There is Hong, the ghost Himu gifts and the head-massager/pick-pocketer Jitu miya. . . Loads of character inhibits this sweet-n-sour story that has an ending that is inevitable and predictable, yet makes you a bit down, but at the same time leaves a smile in your face too.

অদ্ভূত , খাপছাড়া গল্প- তবুও কেনো এতো আনন্দ নিয়ে পড়লাম কি জানি। ভালও লাগলো বেশ।
এইটেই মনে করি হুমায়ূনের জাদু।

ইংরেজী সাহিত্যে পড়াশুনা করা একজন বিখ্যাত সন্ত্রাসী। তাকে ধরায় দিলে পুলিস দিবে পুরস্কার। নাম তার আঙ্গুল কাটা জগ্লু। এই লোকের আঙ্গুল সব ঠিকই আছে, কিন্তু সমস্যা হচ্ছে উনি অন্যলোকের আঙ্গুল কেটে দেন। তাই এই নামেই বিখ্যাত। এক বর্ষাস্নাত দিনে হিমু ধরা খায় আঙ্গুল কাটা জগ্লুর কাছে। বাকি গল্পটা হিমুসুলভ ভঙ্গিতেই এগিয়ে গিয়ে শেষ হয়েছে। হিমুর গল্পগুলার ধরণ সবই একই। একটা নির্দিষ্ট প্যাটার্নেই সব গল্প এগিয়ে গিয়ে শেষ হয়। এক্ষেত্রেও তাই হয়েছে। কিন্তু আমি রূপাকে মিস করি।

মতি মিয়া হিমুকে ধরে নিয়ে যায়,আঙুল কাটা জগলুর কাছে।তার দোষ সে কয়েকদিন যাবত জগলুকে ফলো করছে। কেন ফলো করছে, জিজ্ঞাসাবাদ করার পরও সে বলেনি। তাই হিমুকে জলচিকিৎসা দেয়ার জন্য একটা রুমে নিয়ে যাওয়া হল....

আমার পড়া হিমু সিরিজের সবচেয়ে ফালতু বইগুলার একটা! সময়, পয়সা দুইটারই লস! প্রুফ রিড করা হয়নি বোধহয় বইটার। জগলুকে বজলু বানানো ছাড়াও বিবিধ অসঙ্গতিতে ভরপুর!

অনেকদিন পর হিমু পড়লাম।মোটামুটি ভালোই লেগেছে।তবে ছোট্ট একটা গরমিল হয়েছে।এই বইয়ের আগের বইগুলোর কোনো একটিতে লেখক বাদলের বিয়ে দিয়েছিলেন।এখন এই বইয়ে আবারও বিয়ে দিচ্ছেন।

কুখ্যাত সন্ত্রাসী জগলু,হিমুকে সে পুলিশের চর হিসেবে সন্দেহ করে। অন্যদিকে জগলু অপহরণ করে বিখ্যাত এক ব্যবসায়ীকে,যাকে বাড়ি পৌঁছিয়ে ২৫লক্ষ টাকা নিয়ে আসার দায়িত্ব এসে পড়ে হিমুর ঘাড়ে। জগলুর ছেলে বাবুর বোন-ম্যারো ট্রান্সপ্লান্ট এর জন্য প্রয়োজন প্রচুর টাকা,অন্যদিকে বাবুর চাই একটা ভুতের ছানা। জগলু ভাইয়ের ডান হাত মতি মিঞার মৃতদেহ কে নিয়ে চলে আরেক কান্ড। যেহেতু বাদলের আগে আরেকবার বিয়ে দিয়েছিলেন লেখক এবং এই গল্পে আবার বিয়ে দিলেন,তাই একটি তারা কেটে নিলাম।

হিমু চরিত্রের আসল নাম হিমালয়। এ নামটি রেখেছিলেন তার বাবা। লেখক হিমুর বাবাকে বর্ণনা করেছেন একজন বিকারগ্রস্ত মানুষ হিসেবে; যার বিশ্বাস ছিল ডাক্তার, ইঞ্জিনিয়ার যদি প্রশিক্ষণ দিয়ে তৈরি করা যায় তবে একইভাবে মহাপুরুষও তৈরি করা সম্ভব। তিনি মহাপুরুষ তৈরির জন্য একটি বিদ্যালয় তৈরি করেছিলেন যার একমাত্র ছাত্র ছিল তার সন্তান হিমু।
হিমুর পোশাক হল পকেটবিহীন হলুদ পাঞ্জাবী। হলুদ বৈরাগের রঙ বলেই পোশাকের রং হলুদ নির্বাচিত করা হয়েছিল। ঢাকা শহরের পথে-পথে উদ্দেশ্যহীনভাবে ঘুরে বেড়ানো তার কর্মকাণ্ডের মধ্যে অন্যতম। উপন্যাসে প্রায়ই তার মধ্যে আধ্যাত্মিক ক্ষমতার প্রকাশ দেখা যায়। যদিও হিমু নিজে তার কোন আধ্যাত্মিক ক্ষমতার কথা স্বীকার করে না।
হিমুর আচার-আচরণ বিভ্রান্তিকর। বিভিন্ন পরিস্থিতিতে তার প্রতিক্রিয়া অন্যদেরকে বিভ্রান্ত করে, এবং এই বিভ্রান্ত সৃষ্টি করা হিমুর অত্যন্ত প্রিয় একটি কাজ। প্রেম ভালবাসা উপেক্ষা করা হিমুর ধর্মের মধ্যে পড়ে। কোন উপন্যাসেই কোন মায়া তাকে কাবু করতে পারে নি। মায়াজালে আটকা পড়তে গেলেই সে উধাও হয়ে যায়। হিমু উপন্যাসে সাধা���ণত হিমুর কিছু ভক্তশ্রেণীর মানুষ থাকে যারা হিমুকে মহাপুরুষ মনে করে। এদের মধ্যে হিমুর ফুপাতো ভাই বাদল অন্যতম। মেস ম্যানেজার বা হোটেল মালিক- এরকম আরও কিছু ভক্ত চরিত্র প্রায় সব উপন্যাসেই দেখা যায়।
এছাড়াও কিছু বইয়ে বিভিন্ন সন্ত্রাস সৃষ্টিকারী ও খুনি ব্যক্তিদের সাথেও তার সু-সম্পর্ক ঘটতে দেখা যায়। হিমুর একজন বান্ধবী রয়েছে, যার নাম রূপা; যাকে ঘিরে হিমুর প্রায় উপন্যাসে রহস্য আবর্তিত হয়। নিরপরাধী হওয়া সত্ত্বেও সন্দেহভাজন হওয়ায় হিমু অনেকবার হাজতবাস করেছে এবং বিভিন্ন থানার ওসি ও সেকেন্ড অফিসারের সাথে তার বন্ধুত্বপূর্ণ সম্পর্ক গড়ে উঠে।
হিমু বাংলাদেশের কথাসাহিত্যিক হুমায়ুন আহমেদ সৃষ্ট একটি জনপ্রিয় ও কাল্পনিক। নব্বই দশকে হিমুর প্রথম উপন্যাস ময়ূরাক্ষী প্রকাশিত হয়। প্রাথমিক সাফল্যের পর হিমু চরিত্র বিচ্ছিন্নভাবে হুমায়ুন আহমেদের বিভিন্ন উপন্যাসে প্রকাশিত হতে থাকে। হিমু ও মিসির আলি হুমায়ুন আহমেদ সৃষ্ট সর্বাধিক জনপ্রিয় দু’টি কাল্পনিক চরিত্র। উদাসীন হিমু একবিংশ শতাব্দীর প্রথম দশকের বাঙালি তরুণদের ব্যাপকভাবে অনুপ্রাণিত করেছিল।

আঙ্গুল কাটা জগলু

নীলক্ষেতে গেছি কিছু উপন্যাস আর প্রবন্ধ কিনতে বইটা হাতে নিয়েছি নাম দেখে তেমন ভালো লাগে নাই বলে রেখে দিয়েছি। বই কেনা শেষ তখন বই দোকানদার চাচা বলল বাবা এই বইটা নেন পড়ে আমার কথা মনে করবেন। যেহেতু পুরাতন বই বাজেট বাড়ায়ে নিলাম। এবারে বই কিনতে গিয়ে তার সাথে এই বই নিয়া হুদাই প্যাঁচাল পেড়েও আসলাম। যাইহোক, বইটা নিয়ে লিখতে ইচ্ছে হয়েছে কিছু কথা লিখি।
বইটি জুড়ে হিমুর সকল অভিব্যক্তি প্রকাশ পেয়েছে। কখনো বুদ্ধিদীপ্ত, কখনো রহস্যময়,কখনো বা ডোন্ট কেয়ার একটা ভাব।
জগলু ইংরেজি সাহিত্যের ছাত্র থেকে এখন শহরের মোস্ট ওয়ান্টেড সন্ত্রাসী।তার নাম আঙ্গুল কাটা জগলু হলেও তার আঙ্গুল কিন্তু অক্ষতই আছে। আঙ্গুল কাটা পড়ে শুধু অন্যদের।
"বড় বোকামি বুদ্ধিমান মানুষেরাই করে"।হয়তো জগলু ভাইয়ের ক্ষেত্রে ও তেমনটাই হয়েছে। আজ নাহয় কাল এই বোকামি তাকে করতেই হতো। জগলু ভাইয়ের ছেলে বাবু চরিত্র টা যেন সরলতা ও আবদারে ভরপুর।
আর পাঁচটা গল্পের মতো করেই কাহিনী এগিয়ে যাচ্ছিলো তবে মিতু চরিত্রের ব্যাপ্তি অল্প হলেও নিখুঁত ছিল।মিতুর বিরক্তি কখন অনুরাগে পরিনত হয়ে গিয়েছে তা হয়তো মিতু নিজেও জানে না।শেষদিকটায় এসে মিতু চরিত্রটি গল্পে এক আলাদা আবেশ সৃষ্টি করেছে নিঃসন্দেহে। মিতু দেশ ছাড়ার পড়েও হিমুকে চিঠি লিখে। কী লিখে সেই চিঠিতে তা জানার ইচ্ছে থাকলে বইটি পড়ে দেখতে পারেন।
হুমায়ূন স্যারের কাছে আমার ব্যাক্তিগত আক্ষেপ থেকেই গেলো স্যার যদি কিছু নিষ্প্রয়োজন গল্প না টেনে মিতু চরিত্র কে একটু স্পেস দিত তাইলে আমার জন্য পারফেক্ট হইতো। তবে ফিনিশিং টা ভালো টেনেছে এতেই খুশি। সব মিলায়ে বইটা ভার্সিটি বাসে ফেরা পড়ন্ত বিকেলে বা ট্রেন জার্নিতে বেশ উপভোগ্য হবে।

It is a awesome story of a little talkative but really interesting guy :) . I really loved this book. This book has inspired me to read all the books of this series written by the great writer Humayun Ahmed.

Angul Kata Joglu is part of the transient period in Himu's narrative where there isn’t a lot of necessity to explain who he is or was, rather the author could move on straightaway to his lopsided account of frenzied events.
In this novel, Himu befriends an infamous criminal and works for him (though as far as the readers get to know, Himu is not following anyone but his own random action plan as always). It is obviously a mystifying thing how Humayun ties all the loose ends brilliantly at the end of Himu novels (which are in some ways, more intricate than Misir Ali ones), and he excels in this one too. Brilliant characters, heartfelt dialogues and fast paced adrenaline based sequences make up a quick and hasty couple of hours of joyous reading.

বিষয়বস্তু যাই হোক ‘হিমু’র গল্প সবসময় সুখ-পাঠ্য হয়; অন্ততঃ আমার কাছে। গল্প পড়তে পড়তে মনে হয়: যেন শেষ না হয়। কিন্তু বেশিরভাগ গল্পই হঠাৎ শেষ হয়ে যায়; পাঠক-অনুযোগ পুঁজি করে রেখে। বলা বাহুল্য এই অভিযোগ হুমাউন আহমেদের বেশিরভাগ উপন্যাসের ক্ষেত্রে প্রযোজ্য।
তবে ‘আঙুল কাটা জগলু’র শেষটা আমার ভাল লেগেছে। মোটেরউপর গল্পটা লেগেছে মোটামুটি; খানিক প্রশান্তি তো খানিক বিরক্তি। প্রুফ রিড করা হয়নি বোধহয় বইটার। মিতু থেকে মিতু মিঞা, জগলুকে বজলু বানানো ছাড়াও বিবিধ অসঙ্গতিতে ভরপুর। সবচেয়ে মজার বিষয় হলো, ফিরিয়ে দেয়া মোবাইল আবার হিমুর কাছে কিভাবে আসলো! এই নিয়ে লেখক কোন ব্যাখ্যা দেননি। এমনকি পড়তে গিয়ে মনে হয়েছে, লেখক বিষয়টা বেমালুম ভুলে গেছেন।

“শীর্ষ সন্ত্রাসী মতি মিয়ার লাশ ২ দিন ধরে ঢাকা মেডিকেল কলেজের মর্গে পরে আছে। কোন আত্মীয় স্বজন নেই যিনি মতি মিয়ার লাশ গ্রহণ করে দাফনের ব্যবস্থা করবে। হিমু এটা শোনার পর মতি মিয়ার আত্মীয় পরিচয় দিয়ে লাশটি গ্রহণ করলো। একটি ঠেলাতে করে লাশটি নিয়ে মিতুদের বাসার সামনে রেখে ভিতরে গিয়ে মিতু ও তার বাবার সাথে বসে চা পান করলো। বাসার সামনে ঠেলার মধ্যে একটি লাশ।”
এরকম ঘটনা সাধারনত হয় না। হিমু যা করেন, যা বলেন তা সাধারনত বাস্তবিক জীবনে হয় না । তবুও আমরা হিমু পড়ি, পড়বো।

When is coincidentally 11th of September as you are finishing the book....
It took me a while to actually like these series of books, mostly because of the main character, who seemed so pointless... But maybe it's our lifestyle that makes it so difficult to accept that not everyone is trying to win and compete in life.
I mean, it still seems pointless, but, not everyone has to win. Some can find happiness in sore loss.
(Not me though, I can't even find happiness in winning...! But okay!)

জগলু ভাই হিমুকে ধরে নিয়ে গেসে এই সন্দেহে যে হিমু মনে হয় জগলু ভাই এর নজরদারি করতেসে। আটকা পড়ে হিমুর দেখা হয় মনসুর সাহেব এর সাথে। মনসুর সাহেব এর থেকে ২০ লাখ টাকা চায় জগলু ভাই। হিমুর দায়িত্ব হয় সেই টাকা নিয়ে আসার জন্য। সেখানেই হিমুর পরিচয় হয় মনসুর সাহেব এর মেয়ে মিতুর সাথে। পরবর্তীতে মিতু হিমুর প্রেমে পড়ে যায়। আর জগলু ভাইও ধরা পড়ে ফাসির জন্য অপেক্ষা করে । এই গল্পে জগলু ভাই এর ছেলের সাথে হিমুর সখ্যতা অনেক বেশি থাকে।
