I know that this is considered a children’s classic, but it felt very icky to me. The whole storyline with Adam Ladd and his infatuation with Rebecca felt very icky, especially considering that this book is meant for younger readers. I understand that this book was written during a very different time in history, but hinting at a relationship forming between a man and a young girl that he has known since she was a child is not something that a child should be reading.

Overall, I enjoyed the story. I've never read the original before, so I cannot compare it. I was pleasantly surprised to see God and the Bible mentioned. I did find "Mr. Aladdin's" infatuation with Rebecca rather disturbing, so I can't say I'd recommend this version for children. I'd need to read the original to see how that line plays out.

We owned this version of the story, and it reminded me of Anne Of Green Gables (Which I read and loved) so I read it. It was interesting, although I assume the original is much better because this one skimmed over so much that I only really got to know her enough to want to know her more.

I picked up this book when i was about nine, it was too hard to read so i put it down, even now close to my teenage years, it is hard for me to read. the languge is very old fashioned and it doesn't follow a strait storyline.

I read this to my daughter and we both enjoyed the story. I would be curious to see if the unabridged version contains more about Adam Ladd.

January 23, 2015The book I read was Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm, by Kate Douglas Wiggins. In this book a young girl named Rebecca gets sent by her single mother to live with her Aunts, one is stubborn but the other is sweet. In moving in with her aunts she seems to keep getting in trouble with the stubborn Aunt, Aunt Miranda. She also develops many friends young and old who help her during her life. She also thrives in school and graduates early but ends up going back to her help her nursing mother. During that time her aunt becomes ill and dies leaving the place she grew up in all to her. My favorite part of e book was when Rebecca and her friend were bother matching on the day she graduated. I recommend this book to people who like fictional stories based on time in Earlier times.

SOPHIE (6) says, "It is exciting story, but her aunt died which is sad. Her Aunt Miranda was strict like Mrs Mitchell, but she was good. . Rebecca is a lover of poetry. She grows up to be out of college."

I was disappointed to realize I read an abridged version of this book. I would like to have read the entire book instead. Easy read though.

A book for people who want to read about change and how it affects a person.
