Imperium: Mech #0

The Dominant

Rate this book
Death awaits the curious!

Out along the rim of the galaxy hangs a loose configuration of some sixty stars known as the Faustian Chain. This whorl of sparkling suns is rich in planets and occupies an irregular volume of space some twenty lightyears in diameter. From an external viewpoint, the Chain presents a colorful display of plasma-streams, luminous nebulae and sparkling pinpoints of light.

The human colonists who settled the Chain were aware the region had recently been populated by other species--beings that had all but vanished after waging devastating wars thousands of years in the past. Little was known of them, but certain areas in which their artifacts still persisted were proscribed by interstellar law....

MECH ZERO is a novella (about 60 pages long) by bestselling author B. V. Larson. Set at the beginning of the Imperium Series, this story is a prequel to the outbreak of war. The series involves early human colonies in a region of space previously occupied by a vicious alien species.

“The Dominant”, prequel to the 'Imperium' series, is little more than a truncated short story.
Two planets in a faraway part of the Universe, are going to war.
One is decadent, the other is dedicated to overcoming adversity.
Somewhere between them the Dominant waits.
It gets messy.
I don't feel any urge to continue reading the series.

Great read

Great read, it’s like reading about the Romans in Space. The only way to survive is to become a better warrior.

Great Edition to the Series!

This is a prequel to the Mech series. As it does not require you to be familiar with the series, I recommend this novella to new comers. However, I strongly recommend this series (Mech 1: The Parent, Mech 2: The Savant and Mech 3: The Empress).

This series has never disappointed me and has always delivered the high entertainment I seek. This fantastic novella packed a lot of wallop of a story in only 57 pages. The authored cover all basis in this story, which was short but well written and flowed smoothly. Hopefully there will be more Imperium mischief to come beyond Mech 1-3.

I highly recommend this novella and series to fellow SF readers and also recommend to fellow dark urban fantasy readers who are looking for a good space opera but do not want to end up with a space romance.

I am a sci-fi slut, and will read entire series if they have even a few interesting ideas, even if they're not particularly well-written. This one's not bad. Action packed

It's like a movie I saw as a kid years ago, about these aliens who attached themselves to your spine, and controlled you. Only, this is happening in space.
