I loved all of the tidbits explored in this book, but it was the short story of how the Horsemen were conceived that really grabbed me. Can someone please get rid of Lilith already???

I know I'm late to starting this series, but the story gave me such a huge clue and I'm freaking out. So... Verrine = Harvester? And Yenrieth = Reaver?

Amiright??!!

If you are a Larissa Ione fan and you've been reading her Lords of Deliverance series, do yourself a favor and get this little book! Even though so short, every single word was so enjoyable and it gave me a little glimpse into the everyday life and workings of this complex world created by Ms Ione.

We get to hear it from her as if we were just sitting down talking about how the series came about, who the characters are, and even a list of demons, which will proove helpful because I can't keep them straight. And we learn a bit more about Larissa.

And then there's the short story included in this book, Eternal Damnation. WOW! This story goes back to the origins of the Four Horsemen and how they were conceived. You can read that before or after Lethal Rider, but having read Lethal Rider I had so many "aha!" moments. All the pieces are falling together. And can I just say that, yes the short story was great, but OMG I can't wait to read "blank.blank.blank"'s book! It's going to be off the charts amazing, especially after this setup and the ending of this short story. Now if only we can get Ms Ione to write faster?!?!?!

This story made me depressed.

I am completely unable to rate this. The writing, the facts? It deserved 5 stars.
The story? Disturbing. I would personally stuff it on my ‘avoid’ and ‘never to reread in order to avoid suicide’ shelf.

The Lords of Deliverance Compendium - Apocalypse: The Lords of Deliverance Compendium is a brief – roughly novelette length – encyclopedic reference to Larissa Ione’s Lords of Deliverance series. It introduces readers to the key players in this universe, providing stats, physical descriptions, and bio information. However, since this series is a spin-off or sub-series of her Demonica series, there are a number of common characters, so some of the info in this section is a repeat of what was found in Demonica: A Demon Compendium. Then there are sections describing The Four Horses of the Apocalypse and background information on the world-building, followed by an encyclopedic listing of all the demon species that have been mentioned in the series thus far. Much like with the character bios, a lot of the information in this section is a repeat from the previous compendium with the addition of a few species that are new to the Lords of Deliverance world. After that is a short Q & A in which the author answers questions that were submitted by readers and a brief story of the legend behind the Four Horsemen. Overall, I enjoyed this short reference to the series. I picked up a few new interesting tidbits while reading it. If not for a significant portion of the book being a repeat of previously published material, I probably would have given it a higher rating, but it was still a good refresher and the new material was worth checking it out.

Eternal Damnation - “Eternal Damnation” is an original short story in the Lords of Deliverance world that is only available in this compendium. It tells the story of how Lilith spied on the angel, Yenrieth, and managed to seduce him into getting her pregnant with the Four Horsemen, which solidified her place in Sheoul. I found it interesting that while Yenrieth wasn’t supposed to have sex with demons, his demon-sensing abilities weren’t fully developed enough to realize what Lilith was until after the deed was done. I’m curious to know what happened to him afterward, as he hasn’t been a part of the series yet. The story also introduces a female angel named Verrine who I don’t believe we’ve seen in the series before either. She’s in love with Yenrieth, and after she realizes what he did, she vows to keep his secret and to protect his offspring. I’ll be very interested to see if she or Yenrieth ever show up again in the series, as I’d be totally on board for a pairing between them. Overall, this short story was well-written and steamy, a nice addition to the series mythology, although not really a romance since there’s no HEA, nor would I have wanted there to be one between Yenrieth and Lilith.

Reading this one just make me so impatient to get my hand of Lethal Rider.
And netgalley just decline my request, which is GREAT!!!
I know 22nd May will come, but hell to the yeah, I live in Indonesia, while I must wait 3-4 weeks for the book to come!
Why not buy the ebook, said you?
Is it wrong if I want the paperback version because I want to lick, caress, stare touch the cover , since the model is Paul Marron?

BTW, this compendium is a must read for Larissa Ione hardcore fans, especially if you read her Lords of Deliverance. Contain the data of the key players, the Horse of Four Horseman of Apocalypse (all of them are unique on their own way!), the world, the myth, the weapon list, demon list (which we already know from Demonica). Then, there is short story titled Eternal Damnation. Tell Lilith and Yenrieth story,if you had read Eternal Rider and Immortal Rider, you know who that two. Yep, the Four Horseman's parents. And 3 first chapter of Eternal Rider that make me almost weep. Almost, in a bad way...

As for Eternal Damnation, hmm I don't know. The story feel simple, yet there's so many secrets that still not revealed. There 3 important key player here, Lilith, Yenrieth and Verinne, Yenrieth's angel partner. Now I wonder what happen to Yenrieth after he had sex with Lilith. Is he become Azagoth? Since Azagoth believed to be the Four Horsemen's father? And what Verrine will become? What role she will play at LoD world? Is she someone we already know, but she know in disguise? Ugh, don't said if now she is Harvester! That will make Yenrieth... Reaver? o_O

So many question, and ... damn,I can't wait for Lethal Rider! :(

Fantastic Treat!

If you are new to the Lords of Deliverance Series, I suggest you do not begin here. I strongly recommend you read the series in order (Eternal Rider and Immortal Rider) prior to reading this novella.

This is a fabulous prequel. The story was very short but also very sweet. While I was a bit disappointed that the novella wasn’t a bit longer, the story itself was solid. The anterior section of the book was very informative. Anything you’ve always wanted to know, or anything you’ve always wanted clarified for this series, the Demonica series or the “Demonica World” in general is breakdown and explained in great detail.

This shorty story was well done and despite the length, felt complete and all around perfect tease. My motivation and love for this fabulous series has been rekindled after reading this novella.

I strongly recommend this novella and series to fellow dark urban fantasy readers and I can’t wait to read the next book in the series Lethal Rider due out 6/22/12.

For all Larissa Ione fans impatiently waiting for the release of Lethal Rider, the third installment in the Lords of Deliverance series, Apocalypse: The Lords of Deliverance Compendium is a must have e-book!

Want more of the Four Horsemen? Larissa Delivers (No pun intended -.-) From character identifications to Demon classifications, Apocalypse is an insider's guide into the world of Demonica. And, an exclusive never-before-seen new short-story about what really happened between the evil succubus, Lilith, and the angel, Yenrieth.

Also, a Q&A with Larissa Ione herself, find out who her favorite heroes/heroines are, which book caused the most trouble, and what she does when she's not writing :) Plus, a first look at Lethal Rider!

I loved it! I can't wait for Than's book!! ♥

This was a great companion to the 'Lords of Deliverance' series!

Filled with lots interesting tidbits about Ione's Demonica world, full bios on all the main characters and a hot(!) novella about the origins of the Horsemen we've come to know and love (or hate as the case may be) this Compendium is not to be missed by fans of both the 'Demonica' and 'Lords of Deliverance' series.

The (too) short story was particularly good and while it leaves the reader with more questions and speculations than answers it definitely whets the appetite for the books to come - and I'm gonna be looking at Harvester and Reaver in a whole new light! Now I'm seriously jonesin for 'Lethal Rider'... only a few more weeks!

3.5 stars - for the short story about the conception of the four horsemen, and for the huge aha related to several characters in the series. It looks like there is a whole lot more redemption in the future of the series. As to the rest, it's okay a reference but the character guides and demon dictionary are really just the extras you'd expect to find on an authors website, so it's good that Ione included the short and that the price was so low.

For die-hard fans only

If you read the glossary at the back of each book religiously then this is for you, otherwise I wouldn't bother.

Details about the different demons, the horses and the horsemen comprise most of the book.

There is a short story about Lilith seducing Yenrieth.

Vastly useful, especially to those that need a refresher of the world or have skipped out on the first books in the Demonica series. The short story at the end, depicting how Lilith got pregnant with The Four Horsemen, was very much appreciated. I like having that extra background, plus a little smut never seems to hurt anything. Would recommend if you're a fan of the series and need a reminder of the various characters/creatures or are interested to learn more about Lilith.

My Review: Well that cleared things up for me! I wish I had the first half of this book in paperback so I can flip through while reading the Lords of Deliverance series. I knew I was missing a lot of the back story because of not reading the Demonica series and this really helped me get the demons straight and get some of the other characters stories without reading the whole series. I also enjoyed the short story about Lilith and Yenrieth and the conception of the Horsemen. It really gives you some insight into how manipulative and evil Lilith really is and made me even more curious about the Horsemen's father. I now have a couple of ideas as to what happened to Yenrieth and who he is, and I really can't wait to read the rest of the series to find out if I am correct!!

Eternal Damnation Short Story: (4 stars)
At the end of the Compendium we get a bonus short story that explains how the Four Horsemen came to be created by the succubus Lilith and the angel Yenrieth.

I really enjoyed this. Yenrieth is smokin' hot and Lilith is every bit as seductive and manipulative as you would imagine the succubus who birthed the Four Horsemen would be. The story is pretty short but I was still glued to it from start to finish.

Definitely a must read for fans of the series. Ione did a good job on it and even manages to squeeze in some sexy times while giving us the truth behind the parents of the Four Hoursemen.

Compendium: (4 stars)
The Compendium portion of the book is really actually pretty interesting. It's been awhile since I've read the Demonica books and over a year since I read my last Lords of Deliverance book, Immortal Rider.

So I can't recall all the different demons and such but it was a good refresher on the various characters and gave me some reminders about why I loved the world Ione has created with Demonica and it's spinoff.

Fans of the series should be happy with this. I'd actually love to get this in paperback form (even though it appears to only be in ebook form at the moment) because it'd be great to reference back to the different characters and demons while reading.

But even though I can't do that as easily on an ebook, it's still a great little companion to have if you're fans of Demonica and/or Lords of Deliverance.

This compendium has all the things that you would expect from such an insider’s guide- stats on all our favourite characters, as well as definitions of all the demon species and a Q&A with the author. If you got this as a re-issue, released with Rogue Rider then you get the added bonus of a short story called Eternal Damnation, which tells the true story of how Lilith seduced Yenrieth to fall pregnant with the Four Horsemen, and what her motivations were for doing so. I liked how Ione expanded on the mythology available in the first two books. We knew Lilith was a schemer, we just didn’t know quite what lengths she was prepared to go to in order to achieve her goals. Yenrieth is a Battle Angel with a dodgy evil detector. Verrine is in love with Yenrieth but too slow to act on it, and there are hints that she will share his tragic fate…

This book should ideally be read after Immortal Rider, but I read it after Rogue Rider, and I think the short story fits in perfectly here. Combining the two reads together makes Harvester’s story become strikingly clear, but I leave that for you to find out.

Blysse’s Hot: Plot Ratio

Most pleasing, as expected of the high standard of Ione’s writing!

(July) Sigh - I love Larissa Ione - I've loved all her books so far (other than Wraith's book, which just didn't work for me). Her world building is amazing - but so complex, and so involved, and so dark and confusing that reading all the spoilers others left on their reviews of this book amazed me - I had no recollection of all the previous details they mention (sorry, don't want to spoil) and while I totally agree w/the conclusions they've drawn, I never would have gotten there on my own! Her 20 (Nook) pages of descriptions about the various demons and others were interesting - but too many, unnecessarily (found myself skimming over them after a while - I figure if they appear in a book, there will be a short description of them anyway!). The 'beginning' story of how the Horsemen were conceived was ok, nothing great, a bit depressing, actually. To me this should have been something offered for free on her website - yes, it was only $0.99, but still - most of the information here was just fluff and filler, nothing that you should have to pay for. But, at least now I'm primed and read to start Lethal Rider!

Apocalypse is a great read for anyone that is a fan of not only The Lords of Deliverance, but the Demonica series as well! There is detailed background information on each of The Horsemen and anything related to their world. A classification of Demons, locations in the Horseman and Demonica world, and weapons. My favorite part of the ebook was the short story where the reader finally gets to learn more on the legend of The Horseman and how they came to be what they are today. And...the first 3 chapter of Lethal Rider, Than's story!

Any and every character that is mentioned in the books is listed. From the some of the important humans to the angels that are a part of their life. There's also a great Q&A with Larissa and I learned even more from one of my favorite authors about her amazing books.
