short review for busy readers: an excellent book on the self for those new to esoteric/alternate spirituality as well as those more experienced who are looking for ways to go beyond their current level of understanding. Part of a series that can be used as a complete self-teaching course. Considered a classic in the field of channelled texts and includes a lot of info. Highly recommended.

No matter what your beliefs about alternate spirituality are, there is one thing you immediately notice about this book: it's written from a place of great love and acceptance. Just reading though the chapters is calming. You feel grounded and at peace, even if you (may) disagree with what you're reading.

I've never read ANY spiritual text like that, although they say it's the mark of a powerful channel. What impressed me most and why I'll be re-reading this one, possibly multiple times:

* The energy exercises are the easiest to follow I've found. The ones I've tried had the promised effect and were quite helpful.

*By -- admittedly superficially -- going from basic esoteric ideas to super advanced ones (hello yogi!) the book answers very well the questions where does active spiritual growth lead you? Why do it? What's the point? You can clearly see where the path leads and where you are on it.

* This and the other books in the Earth Life series comprise an actual course in esoteric spirituality.
Book 1: Living with Joy: Keys to Personal Power and Spiritual Transformation, Book 2: Personal Power Through Awareness: A Guidebook for Sensitive People
You can teach yourself how to do a lot of this stuff, because it comes from you, not from the outside.

Nothing in the book feels like dogma, or unsafe or "out there" even if some of the very, very advanced stuff comes off as, well, science fiction. (Guess I'm not there yet!)

A word on channelling and the typical "New Age-y" stuff:
There are a number of channellers I've seen/tried. Although I place myself very firmly in the esoteric community, I'm still sceptical of the validity of anyone doing public channelling or writing channelled books. I need to see their work over a longer period of time and judge how tangibly practical it is before I take their words to heart or apply them.

What I've learned, though, is that guides can generally only use the "knowledge" of the person they are speaking though. If a channeller doesn't know a word or some specific fact or if the channeller believes something is absolutely true, the guides have to phrase their message to connect with that belief/knowledge.

This is where I'm guessing the 'standard New Age' stuff in the book comes in.

It was the outlook, belief and focus of the 'author', Sanaya Roman, at the time of writing (late 80s) so it's what her guides used. It's not terribly intrusive, but you do notice it. Especially if you've seen a particular idea lambasted in works written decades later (like the Power of Positive Thinking).

So don't throw the baby out with the bathwater if you meet a very 80s concept, or one you think more belongs on an inspirational poster. That's probably the reason.

This channeled book is one of the most simple, loving, and progressive books I have ever read. The affirmations on each page are great for just opening the book and seeing what is drawn to you. Anyone wishing to experience their higher self, or learn how to work with light and energy to create their reality will benefit greatly from this book. Reading it is like being held in a warm embrace from the depth of your spirit. Enjoy!

I agree with the reviewer who described this book as "very woo woo but very good". Initially skeptical because of early chapters encouraging "energy work" and "sending light" with little focus on taking physical action to elicit change, the book redeemed itself with its later chapters on Non-Attachment, Will, and Transparency. If you're in the early stages of spiritual growth and can get past the "woo woo", I think you'll find it a useful read. I look forward to reading more from this series.

I thought this was a wonderful book for someone looking to become more spiritual and lead a joyful existence. I have been wanting to explore spirituality more lately but have yet to stick with any of the books I picked up on the subject matter. This book was written in a clear, gentle, straightforward way and was easy to stick with. I read a chapter or two before bed and it would calm me and usually I found parts of it that resonated well with what I was feeling or what I went through that day. At times I felt like the book was speaking directly to me. I also liked the guided meditations following each chapter. Overall, a great read and I plan on reading the other books in the series.

According to this book I am a guide for those close to me to reach higher levels of consciousness. Therefore Jamie, Elton, Arun, Lakhan and Evelina please all follow me your humble leader to the path of enlightenment and the end of suffering gn.

But on a serious note this book isn’t really what I was expecting. I thought it would be about 6th dimensional humans perhaps and eternal consciousness/enlightenment. Sadly it wasn’t. The stories within were a tad dramatic too. But don’t get me wrong certain chapters of this book I enjoyed.

I received this book as a gift over 20 years ago and have only just now read it for the first time. Perhaps I was not ready for it before; certainly those two decades of life experience have given me a different outlook. In any case, I liked it - the text advocates positive thinking without coming across as clichéd and sentimental, guides the reader to look inside themselves for advice, and says to use your mind to keep yourself grounded when the people around you are in emotional turmoil - all excellent recommendations even without the spiritual dimension. But if you subscribe to a more esoteric approach to the human condition, it adds some higher-level aspects to expanding awareness, serving humanity, and progressing along the spiritual pathway. I found the examples of "real people" using the meditations to resolve their problems a bit vague and too glibly assigned to spiritual assistance rather than basic psychological processes, but at least there was an attempt to show how the principles can be applied to everyday life; it was not just listing hard-to-follow guru theory and overgeneralisations, as some books in this genre tend to do. The author says she channeled the text from a spirit teacher called Orin, and I tend to be sceptical of such claims - but whether that's true or not is a moot point. A lot of it agrees with what I have read in other places. It was well-written and thoughtful enough that I might continue to read more by Ms Roman. Perhaps I can apply some of it in my own life.

Choosing Your Reality:

“Instead or picturing things growing worse, picture things growing better. If you catch yourself worrying about the environment, weather, earth changes, or larger-scale events, imagine things turning out wonderfully. Think of the earth as becoming more beautiful and believe that it is possible to live in a place with clean air and a healthy environment, and you will create it as true in your reality. You will be creating a positive vision that becomes telepathically available to others. When enough people hold a positive vision of the future, it will come about, for your thoughts and intent create your reality.”

“In the past a strong will was needed. Force and aggression assured survival against harsh elements. Today, an aggressive dominant Will is no longer necessary for survival. I love the way books choose me…

That’s exactly how I felt while reading Spiritual Growth. I’ve had this copy since 2011 and only now chose to read it, perhaps more fitting is that it chose to be read. How apropos, even as time is an illusion. I very much enjoyed the gentle guidance and reminders, a pointing to all being well and as it should be, yet across a psycho-spiritual spectrum. I suppose this review is less about the book and more so about the feeling with which it left me. I’ll say this. If you’ve encountered the book, it’s meant for you to read it…now or at some point in the future.

It's a better book than most other spiritual books I've read. After each chapter, there is a meditation guide to help you with what you've just learned. Honestly I didn't do but two or three in the book because it was hard to memorize while trying to do it and having to keep picking the book back up. However it was a good read, made me think and see how I react to toxic people differently.

1. BEING YOUR HIGHER SELF:
- When people have to experience a high level of struggle and pain before they pay attention to and follow the inner messages, they are receiving.

4. BIGGER PICTURE:

7. ALLOWING HIGHER GOOD:
- learn to receive all the good things your higher self has to give you.
- Start believing that a good life is naturally yours. It is the higher plan of the universe for all beings to have lives of beauty, harmony, and abundance.
- Learn to allow yourself to have what you want.
- “I now allow more good things into my life.”
- Every situation is an opportunity to grow. Some situations offer you the opportunity to release an attachment or let go of an emotion that no longer serves you.
- Trust your higher self to bring you the essence of everything you want at the perfect time and in the perfect way. Your higher self is the real “captain”, and it always puts you in the perfect circumstances.
- Simply pay attention, act on any inner messages you are receiving, and stay in the higher flow.
- You can allow more good into your life by giving good things to other people. Give us a smile, love, and good energy wherever you go. Give whatever you want to receive.
- Unlimited abundance exists for everyone.
- Allow people to be any way they want to be. Give all the people in your life permission to be who they are. You increase your ability to love and accept yourself just as you are.
- The more you open to the feelings of allowing deserving, the more rapidly you will grow, and be your higher self.

8. ACCELERATING YOUR GROWTH:
- With growth, you feel vibrant, alive, healthy, and joyful.
- Your desires teach you many things about yourself and the nature of reality.
- Ask your higher self to show you how your life will become even better as you grow spiritually.
- By choosing to hold positive thoughts about your growth, you can expand your potential for evolution.
- You can grow with joy rather than struggle.
- As you increase your vibration, things will get easier. The challenge lies in how expansive you can make your vision, and how much can be accomplished with an economy of energy, joy, and creative intent.

11. TIME: Expanding and contracting time
- Do only those things that create your higher purpose and you will have more time.

- Empowerment means teaching people skills they can use to take charge of their own lives rather than bailing them out of recurring problems. Loving people instead of saving them.
- Consciousness can be shifted in simple ways. As you do this regularly, you will lift your friendship to a higher level and evolve more rapidly yourself.
- As you grow, you will want to increasingly be alert to who, and what you are putting your time and energy into and the results you are or aren’t creating.
- When you create a shift, you feel charged with energy, and your radiance increases.
- People who are growing rapidly from your assistance will not feel like burdens.
- Mastery is demonstrated by how much of a shift is created with each energy expenditure.
- You can talk directly to people’s higher selves.
- Sometimes people are not ready to grow or change. Simply love them, acknowledge their divinity, and allow them to be just as they are.
- When people are ready to make a shift, you will rarely have any resistance to assisting them. (*)
- To serve others, you will need compassion and the ability to detach. (*)
- Allow others to go through their lessons the way they have chosen to experience them. Assist people at whatever level they understand.
- Assist people on the levels they are at, and only when they are ready to help them see how they created their problems.
- Becoming a world server means your own growth will accelerate rapidly. You will become magnetic to people and opportunities that allow you to make a difference.
- Your world service is in whatever area you were drawn to. You can be of service in any job you have. You are in exactly the right place now to start serving and empowering others.
- To awaken others, be on fire yourself, aglow with your own inner light. (*)
- One of the greatest gifts you give the world is to feel enthusiastic and charged with energy, loving your work and your life. Radiate those qualities you want to see in others. (*)
- As you grow, things will become very easy for you to accomplish.
- Applaud people whenever they shift or take a step.
- Becoming a world server is one of the fastest paths to enlightenment, and will bring you joy, abundance, and in satisfaction.

14. VEIL OF ILLUSION:
- Lifting the veils of illusion is learning to see the world through the eyes of your higher self, knowing what is truth, and what is illusion.
- Reality and truth depend on the weight of a vibration.
- Practice describing things to yourself, just as they are, without any stories describing them, and you will see beyond the illusions created by your perceptions.
- When you judge others, you are often projecting your thoughts about reality onto them. (*)
- Sending them love will do more to lift them than your negative judgments.
- Watch people without making any judgments about who they are. Find something beautiful about each person and send them light.
- See people clearly and love them for who they are right now. (*)
- You can assist them in growing by focusing on their strengths. Acknowledge their divinity.
- Follow your heart and believe in your truth, now what others and society tell you is best.
- Ask your higher self to lift the veil of evolution and be willing to see what is revealed.
- Integrity is living the truth you know. (*)
- Living an integrity, in harmony with your beliefs and values, will accelerate your growth and make the process more joyful.
- Integrity will bring clarity in order to every area of your life.
- You can find a higher truth by focusing on serving others.
- Know your deeper values and follow them.

15. COMMUNICATING AS YOUR HIGHER SELF:
- Your positive thoughts and visions of people will lead them higher.
- Higher Self communication, brings energy and love back to you.
- When your words are chosen with care and spoken with the intent to serve, they empower people to grow.
- You will discover increasing joy and harmony with your loved ones when you link with them silently.
- Your words create what you speak about. Learn to speak positively.
- As you grow spiritually, your words gain more power to affect people.
- Giving feedback points them in the direction of their next step and makes it easy for them to take it.
- Higher Self communication creates an opening for that person to grow.
- You can have what you want. Express yourself with precision.

16. RIGHT USE OF WILL
- You will is one of the most magnificent and powerful parts of your being. Your will carries out your choices and decisions.
- What is the most challenging aspect of earth-reality is learning to use your will to manifest your higher good and flow in harmony with the Higher Will.
- When the actions you take are aligned with your higher self, you will not need force to carry them out.
- Your wise will guide you to do things you love to do. Do things when they feel right and when you love to do them.
- Magnetism is a powerful force. You can draw what you want to you by allowing it to come rather than forcing it to come.
- Uncomfortable areas can indicate places where you have taken on other people's energies.
- Offer assistance to others only when they ask for it.
- Look for what you have in common with others, and accept and love those who are on different paths.

17. NO -ATTACHMENT
- Developing the ability to let go accelerates your growth.
- Nothing ever leaves your life unless something BETTER is coming.
- Act upon the whispers before they become shouts, and make the changes your inner self suggests to you.
- The path is easy for those who have no preferences.
- Non-attachment is serving people’s “higher selves”, rather than “personality self”.
- You are not responsible for making other people's lives work, they are.
- As you give freedom to others, you become freer yourself.
- To you effectively get your work out into the world, you will need to learn to detach from what others think of you.
- Make your decision not on what you think you will get out of things, but on how much your actions contribute to others.
- One of the greatest gifts you give others is the freedom to go their way.
- To truly serve others, you will need to give them complete freedom. In doing so, you free yourself to be all you can be.
- Only by growing yourself do you serve others.
- New friends will come to your life who will match your higher vibration and new interests.
- You will find more joy and inner peace when you release your attachments.
- When you are not attached to what other people think of you or to having things be a certain way, you are free.

18. TRANSPARENT:
- When you are transparent, you can comfortably be with many different kinds of people.
- You can learn how to be your higher self amid the kind of energies that are present on earth.
- The energy you find the hardest is the one you need to become increasingly transparent to to grow spiritually and more powerfully.
- You will continually attract people with similar energies until you learn how to stay balanced and in your center around them.
- To become transparent, make no judgments about other’s behavior.
- Start by not reacting to what people do.
- Once you are unemotional and acting from your calm, the actions you take will be the ones that create the most results.
- If people are angry or aggressive, see them as small children throwing temper, tantrums, for they are expressing their little selves, not their higher selves.
- Send love when someone is behaving the way you disagree.
- Sending love transforms the energy around you.
- Breathe slowly and calmly. This will help you stay centered and calm.
- When people are acting in ways you don’t like, they are mirroring back to you a part of yourself that you haven’t yet learned to love. (*)
