He is also very naughty - he digs in the garden, rolls in the mud, runs away and makes muddy paw prints everywhere. Eventually Mum has had enough. `That is it!' she says. `Grub, you are just too naughty, too mucky and too much trouble. You will have to go!' But after Grub has been taken to live with Uncle Tom and his three dogs, everyone misses him. So Grub comes home again and before long everywhere is a mess again ...
REVIEW
This book is the first in the series of Grub books, and it's a cracker. Beautifully illustrated, heartwarming and hilarious, we have read this book many times in our house and never tire of it.
My son's opinion (3) is: Grub is so funny, he makes such a mess, I bet he is a stinky dog!
Both my sons under 4 love these books and they are an absolute bargain. One to read over and over. This household is certainly glad that Ruby got Grub back from Uncle Tom's house! Such a simple storyline masterfully told, this series could easily run and run.
This is an excellent book that tells the story of a young girl ‘Ruby’ and her grubby, mucky, puppy, ‘Grub’.
Ruby is frustrated that Grub will not, sit when told, or stop digging the back garden up when told and many more terrible, terrible things. While Ruby can see the nice side to Grubs downfalls her mother has “had enough”! One day Ruby’s parents decide to take Grub to a new home, Uncle Toms house. Quite soon after their return home the entire family begin to miss their disobedient, grubby pup.
This is a funny story, told from the perspective of Ruby. The illustrations in the book enhance the humour of the story, making it appealing to children of all ages. The book could be used as a read aloud in the class and also for retrieval skills. It’s a great demonstration of how we still love people/ animals, faults included and how sometimes we may take that for granted. This would be an ideal book to use for S.E.A.L.
