Karen Magill, author of The Bond: A Paranormal Love Story approached me a while back about reviewing this book. As I have talked about before, I never considered myself a paranormal fan until beginning this journey, so I was a bit leery at first.

From the first chapter, any reservations I had about The Bond went completely out the window. Magill writes beautifully, her style evoking emotions in me from the very beginning of the book.

The Bond centers around the lives of two lonely, but amazingly talented people: Laura and Julian. Laura owns a successful women's apparell shop, but has thrown herself into her work at the expense of personal life. She long-ago gave up on her dreams of being a professional actress. Julian is a talented artist, who bucked his trust-fund upbringing to pursue his passion. While his art is beginning to be make a name for himself, he misses the once-close bond he had with his family.

One night, Julian and Laura (who live on opposite sides of Canada) are hit by cars at the exact same moment. Both experience out-of-body experiences, finding themselves floating high-above the accident scene. The two bodies are drawn together, experiencing this intense moment with each other.

Upon waking, Laura and Julian both shake off their experiences as an intense dream curteosy of some serious pain medications. Still, the two start to experience visions of one another. With the help of a psychic, Julian learns that those moments occured because they were both near death and are now imprinted on one another. He also learns that Laura's quest for love, and desire to stop living a sheltered life is going to lead her into some serious trouble. Can he use his visions and gain the support of his loved in order to save Laura?

The story is not only a beautiful romance, with some spooky elements, it takes a hard look at mortality. No day is guaranteed, expect today. Magill and I agree that the world would be a different place if we all learned to start living and stop letting ourselves get boxed into a mundane excuse for life.

The Bond takes a concept that could easily read cheesy, and instead turns it into a beautiful, intense look at love, life and how our choices shape our relationships. My only complaint, is not a complaint at all. The story is relatively short and left me wanting to what was next for Laura and Julian, and for her family. The twist at the end literally had me tweeting Ms. Magill for a follow up novel!

Overall Rating: 9.5/10 A MUST READ!

This story was about Laura, independent and hardworking store owner, who has an out of body experience linking her with Julian, an artist who is trying to make his mark in the art world. They had a car accident at the same time, and so their souls were in communion during their out of body experience. When they returned to their respective bodies, they were left feeling incomplete without each other.

This premise was creative and I wish she spent more time really acclimatizing us to the characters. The book was a quick read, but I wouldn't have minded if it was twice as long. I didn't "experience" Julian's struggle/suffering as an artist. So it made it hard to appreciate his one night success. Laura had a bad relationship, so she was single and hiding behind her work. I wanted to know a little bit more about what shaped their lives.

My favorite thing: the Heroine was a strong, independent and savvy entrepreneur. I am sick of these weak and feeble women needing rescue.

My least favorite thing; I was hoping for a real world connection as well as a mystical bond. I didn't feel a serious reciprocal connection between Julian and Laura...or even Gerald and Laura. The book would have benefited from more fleshing out of their times together. It didn't have to be graphic, but there should have been more descriptions about their emotions when they were around each other. I wanted to FEEL their love, passion and their BOND.

Also the ending was rushed. There wasn't enough time of Julian and Laura together getting to know each other. That was what the book was about--their bond, and there wasn't enough of a physical bond (on earth). That is what I was truly waiting for.

I will recommend this book because it was pleasurable and it wasn't so focused on sex as many of the paranormals seemed to be. It was a nice twist to the same old plots.

The Bond Creates Connection with Readers

Karen Magill’s novel, The Bond A Paranormal Love Story, is a fresh and different twist on the Romance scene. In an imaginative jaunt through the lives on its characters, this tale proves that all humans may be connected, but some more than others may. Thus, in the end, what counts is not who one might be, but what choices one makes in life.

The main characters are Laura Neill, a self-made businessperson and Julian Rule, a talented artist who made a life for himself away from his family’s money and power. Both characters have his and her own brand of baggage being carried through life, but as in most Romances, one thing, or maybe two, is missing from life for them both.

The plot is fresh and actually, one I have never run across yet in all my reading. Some of the underlying storyline is so straightforward that is takes some of the mystery out of it, but that is only due to the fact that the reader is privy to information that characters aren’t or because the character ignores things that shouldn’t be ignored. The fact is that there are a number of storylines, all of which are written into the mainstream of the tale and seemingly intertwined with ease by Magill. This is book is a fast read, with a good storyline, and can be enjoyed by anyone who enjoys a hybrid of romance, action, and a few other genres. What? Surely, you didn’t expect me to give away all the information...did you?

The Review
I love this one, the fact that the writer has written it from different perspectives and not just the one, is great, it kept you on your toes throughout, The characters were well written, all of them had something about them, that intrigued me, You can imagine flying in the skies meeting up with others while you are up there when you are having a near death experience, This is a beautiful romance with a small paranormal strike through the middle of it, I will be telling all my friends about it, 4.5/5

The Bond A Paranormal Love Story by Karen Magill published in 2004. This is a very beautiful love story. Two people get in an accident and almost die, at the exact same time, in two different parts of the world, and meet as their spirits are going toward the eternities. They join hands during this very spiritual experience which connects them for life. She narrates this story as if she has personally astral projected sometime in her life. Astral projection is an out-of-body-experience. Some people believe the astral body is completely separate from your physical body. Since astral projection is associated with near death experiences Karen Magill begins to shape this story of love between these two characters beautifully.
Karen uses a positive strong young woman named Laura Neill who is very successful in life and Karen also has a strong male figure that is confident as an artist even when his family thinks he is wasting time. Since I don’t want to give away the plot this is all I am going to say except that I give this book a five star rating for its content and creativity. I recommend this book to all young at heart and who’d like to find a love of their own.

Karen Magill has created poignant, compelling characters that mystify and tug at your heart strings. This novel catapults the main characters, Laura and Julian into a celestial realm after both have car accidents and die. Their spirits are drawn to each other, but when they return to their physical bodies, they wonder if it was a dream or they imagined it. Haunted by their experiences, they go on with their lives but they know they have both changed from this"bond" they shared together.

Both are recovering, Julian is an artist and Laura is an independent and hard working store owner. Lacy, Laura's pregnant sister, uses the opportunity to try and steal money from her sister’s store. Soon, her lazy boyfriend and his brother plot how to get at Laura’s wealth in a conniving ploy that will destroy Laura. In the meantime, Julian is striving to find the elusive Laura of his dreams and save her from her impending danger.

This story had a beautiful element of the paranormal in it that I loved! Not only will readers cheer on Laura, but they will love Julian as I did. I gave it five stars and hope this will be made into a movie. Beautiful!

The bond is a quick and entertaining read. It is about Laura and Julian who both get hit by cars at the exact same moment on opposite sides of the country from each other. They both have an out of body experience and meet each other while floating high up in the sky outside their bodies. They get a strong sense of and feel an intense connection to the other. Essentially a bond is formed and once they are well and getting back on with their lives they are still having thoughts of each other. Meanwhile Laura starts dating a man and Julian gets a feeling of impending doom that he believes has to do with Laura. You’ll have to read the story to find out what happens next.

I liked this book, and thought it was very well done. It was well written and fast paced. The story was engaging and flowed nicely. It was interesting and I liked Laura and Julian. I would have liked to have seen a bit more of them together but alas the story came to an end. I think this author shows a lot of promise and will be one to watch.

This story took hold of me from the start. I found myself reading with urgency to find out the bond between these two people. Why were they drawn to each other and how were they really connected. My heart raced as the story unfolded. I was so wishing for a happy fairy-tail ending.

This story was seamlessly written and the premise lured me in. This clever little paranormal story was a great escape and kept me guessing all the way through.

"I felt I was being drawn to her, that some bond was holding us together. I touched her hand and our hands became one. When I connected with her I felt such wonderment. I felt I had to go to her and I didn't want to let go. All I know is that she became a part of me. She touched me in those few moments like no one else has. I can't get her out of my mind and I have been feeling so empty since we parted."

I enjoyed the tale of prominent business woman Laura Neill and successful artist Julian Rule who are psychically bonded during an out-of-body experience after they are struck crossing the road in Vancouver and Toronto. Each return to their bodies with a part of the other’s souls. Still bonded, but not quite sure the other exists, Julian is led to believe that Laura is in danger and a psychic friend of one of his friends confirms it.

Julian flies to Vancouver to save Laura from the deadly man that has become her fiancé. While a little sparse on the description, The Bond was a great short read. It brought me back to my time in Vancouver and New Westminster, Canada. The Characters were well-developed and I would love to read more about them.

This story had a great premise and storyline. I enjoyed it very much, though I would have liked a little more in-depth character development. At first, I found the dialogue to be a little stilted, but that got better as the story progressed and I became engrossed in the story. It read quickly, and I was very interested in the paranormal aspect.

Julian and Laura have an out of body experience and meet after each is in a horrific accident, each leaving part of their soul with the other. Therefore, they are linked when they 'come back'. They have visions of each other, and soon Julian feels that Laura is in danger.

The author has a promising career ahead of her; if you're looking for an entertaining paranormal love story, check out The Bond. You won't be sorry.

I really enjoyed this book The Bond, it was a fast and entertaining read. I enjoyed the story of Laura and Julian and how they met as spirits and then realized that they were bonded to each other after a little help. This was a short book only 89 pages but the author Karen Magill managed to put a lot of information about the characters into the book. The only thing I was disappointed in was that the book ended. I hope Karen Magill is planning on book 2, because I can't wait to see what happens with the characters and what happens when Laura's brother Lee "Christopher" comes home.I am so glad that I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
