For years, the human and vampire residents of Morganville, Texas, have managed to co-exist in peace. But now that the threat to the vampires has been defeated, the human residents are learning that the gravest danger they face is the enemy within…

Thanks to the eradication of the parasitic creatures known as the draug, the vampires of Morganville have been freed of their usual constraints. With the vampires indulging their every whim, the town’s human population is determined to hold on to their lives by taking up arms. But college student Claire Danvers isn’t about to take sides, considering she has ties to both the humans and the vampires.

To make matters worse, a television show comes to Morganville looking for ghosts, just as vampire and human politics collide. Now, Claire and her friends have to figure out how to keep the peace without ending up on the nightly news… or worse.

Spoilers

Like the last few books in the series, the plot was dull and uninspired. It was the same old rubbish:

Claire moaned about something or other.
There was a new threat of some sort.
Vampires = Bad times.
Eve and Claire fangirled over Michael's fit body and beautiful face.
Michael brooded about being a vampire.
Amelie acted like a bitch.
Oliver acted like a bitch.
Shane bitched about the vampires and his twagic life.
Myrnin acted crazy and wore silly clothes.
There was a misunderstanding or two.
Michael/Eve and Shane/Claire angsted about their relationship.
The gang faced the bad guys and against all odds, won.
Blah blah blah.

Claire
In the last few books, I found Claire really boring and sadly she still bored the hell out of me. I hate how dumb she seems to have gotten, in the first few books, she came across as smart, resilient and funny and now she's a Mary Sue and all she cares about are her boys - Shane, Michael and Myrnin. Its like she's forgotten about her dreams and education — it's all about vampires and Shane..ugh.
I did love that Claire didn't forgive Shane after he treated her like shit but I'm sure she'll let me down in the next book when she's all over him again.

Shane
Shane started off decent enough but he's turned into a mega whiny bitch-bastard-douche. Most of the time he's either emo or angry. His treatment of Claire pissed me off — he was probably happy that Michael kissed Claire because it gave him the perfect excuse to treat her like crap — he's one of those guys that like being a dick to their girlfriend… they get off on it.

Michael
Good god — he's dull..'Oh I wuv Eve but I have to pwotect her from all the evul wampires so I'm gonna act like a dick blah blah. I also like blood blah blah blah..woe is me!!'
His relationship with Eve's ridiculous — as if, he'd still be with her when she's old and saggy — nope, he'd be off stalking and falling in insta-wuv with wide eyed teenage girls.

Eve
Eve used to be a great character, now she's an idiot that cries all the time and only cares about Michael and her wuv life.

Monica
It says a lot about a series when the most likeable character used to be bully and is presently still a bitch. She's more entertaining than Claire/Eve/Shane/Michael put together.
It's funny that Monica has more chemistry with Shane than Claire does, I wouldn't mind Shane and Monica getting together.

Miranda
Miranda's an okay character, I just wish she wasn't so desperate for Claire and co's acceptance and approval.
I hated the way Michael treated her, he was a fucker! He should have empathized with her situation but instead he thought he was the only one with problems, and he made her feel so bad that she wanted to kill herself! And then on top of that, Michael and co didn't even feel guilty about what they did to her! I hate how the core 4 act like they're the good guys, they judge everyone else's behaviour and are all preachy but they don't look at themselves and see that they only ever do what's best for the four of them.

Morganville vampires
I hate all the vampires (bar Myrnin) — they're all so unlikable and cartoonish. The perfect ending would be if they all died. I'm really hoping Claire invents a machine to kill them all.

Random thoughts
-The different POV's and the shifts from 3rd person to 1st person was irritating.
-I don't need to be told repeatedly what people look like and how hot they are.
-Why does Amelie only wear white?
-Why did Amelie have to fall in wuv with Oliver? she's a strong enough leader without him or any man.
-Why is this so boring?

I've come this far, so I'm going to stick it out until the bitter end. I'm hoping that Claire stops being such a dull goody goody and becomes more interesting, I don't think there's any hope for Michael, Shane and Eve. Actually, I wouldn't mind if Claire just died and Monica became the protagonist — that would definitely make for more exciting reading.

How can I possibly explain how utterly awesome this book was? I devoured it. It had everything I was hoping for, which means it had Myrnin, Claire/Myrnin, Claire, Amelie, Amelie/Oliver, Eve, Eve/Michael, adventure, shocking events, constant danger... It was so nice getting to once again re visit these great characters... with the exception of Shane of course (I am an avid supporter of the "let's kill Shane" fan club; there's more of us than you think). Bitter Blood was pretty much Morganville on a whole new level.

"Morganville's bricks and mortar were back together, but its people were coming apart"

What could Rachel Caine possibly come up with next? She basically created the father of all bad assness (Bishop) (well, two fathers of bad assness if you count Frank Collins) and had him take over the entire town in about 2-3 books. She also created a whole new set of mythological creatures that made us all re think the idea of taking a nice shower as much as the next vampire (the Draug) for the last couple of books, so what can she possibly come up with next to keep our gang on their toes? And on book thirteen nonetheless? Well, nothing fancy really, she just sparked the flame of the town from the inside and watched it burn... add in a blind queen, a lost Myrnin, and fractured relationships inside the glass house and you got yourself a tea party you really don't want to miss.

I am amazed at how alive this series still is. Being on book thirteen and still being able to keep your readers interested and at the edge of their seats isn't a small feat, but Morganville is different and if it manages to capture your attention in the first few books, well, then you are going to be ensnared in it's pages till the very end. I know I still am! With every book new things are brought into the mix, like different POVs for example, that just make the story grow and evolve, develop into something bigger than itself and way better than most series floating around.

But I'm rambling here so I am just going to tell you some of my favorite parts (without spoiling). One was of course Myrnin, whole lot of Myrnin! Yes, we finally get what we have ALL been waiting for, we get to be inside Myrnin's mind, and it doesn't disappoint. Claire, she has grown up so much. I mean the scared innocent girl first introduced in Glass House is now a strong, smart, determined woman who can take care of herself plus bring good into the town. And she specially does something in this book that just earned her buckets of respect from my part . Also Eve and Michael's marriage plays a huge roll in this book, specially since nobody seems to be on their team. The story evolves and keeps you entertained, Bitter Blood is definitely not a filler, and by the end some things happen that make the prospect of the NEXT book all that much more interesting.

Bad Parts? Other than Shane still kicking it up nothing really. He just manages to piss me off in every single book. Though he manages to redeem himself a tiny bit I still dislike him for being untrustworthy and fickle. Alas though, he is the main character's love interest so c'est la vie.

Final Verdict: Read it! So worth it because of everything. It's a good book for Morganville fans out there. The series still has plenty of juice left. I can't believe there is only 2 more books left...

Old Update:

The vampires in Morganville are pissing me off. They are really quick to forget that without human help they would have been DEAD and GONE. I am actually surprised that Shane, Eve, Michael and Claire didn't haul ass in the last book by the end; The computer was clearly not working anymore and they did EVERYTHING in their power to help take back the city. Amelie owes them that much. Queen bitch.

Mini Review: Word-vomit review headed your way.

I swear this series could be tightened up considerably if the characters didn’t spend so much time rehashing things. I’d also prefer more focus on advancing external plot points. However, that’s not really the point of the story. The point is to spend time with the characters and really immerse in their thoughts and feelings. The bad guys are secondary. I like these characters well enough. I’ve read enough of Rachel Caine to note that we’d be compatible friends because we definitely don’t have the same taste in boys. I’ve been working my way through this series gradually for about ten years, and it’s interesting to me how much more often I notice relationship dynamics between the main characters that are really unhealthy. It certainly adds to the drama and perpetuates the series. But at the same time I now find it harder to read. A lot of the arguments seem senseless. But that kind of makes them the most realistic, which is oddly compelling. It’s probably why I keep coming back to the series – to see where everyone ends up in the end. I am getting tired of the “scary” vampires doing “scary” things but never actually hurting anybody thing that’s going on. It lowers any stakes (pun) I might feel because everything is so vanilla. However, that also means the violence is age-appropriate and I should probably stick to adult urban fantasy after this (I won’t) if I want something substantial. Overall, it’s a staple YA vampire series that I’ve mostly enjoyed. I’d have a hard time feeling good about recommending it to teens because of the toxic relationships and sexual content (nothing explicit, just promotion of underaged sex. The main character is quite young with a much older boyfriend), but I’d also feel off recommending it to adults because it doesn’t give a lot to sink your teeth into (another pun) other than teenage angst (which apparently is entertaining enough to keep me reading). The overall story arcs are a lot of fun, it just draws them out a bit too long. On the flipside, the novels are short, so if you can breeze through them your experience might be a lot better than mine. Haha how about that for a review? Happy reading, peeps!

Wow, so this book brought me to tears at one point. I really felt for Claire and the gang. Even Shane, even though I'm STILL mad at him. I'll forgive him eventually though lol. I love how there are some extra POVs other than just Claire's. I especially liked being inside Myrnin's crazy head. Only two books left in the series. Feels like that should have been the last. So I can't wait to see what else lies in store for Morganville.

How I choose my rating:
1* Didn't like it at all. These are rare as I usually just don't finish any book I dislike this much.
2** Didn't like it. Again usually DNF if I dislike it this much, but occasionally I feel it still has potential and I try to stick with it to the end.
3*** I liked it. It wasn't great but it was enjoyable enough. It is unlikely I'll ever reread it but I might finish the series if it is a part of one.
4**** I really liked this book. Maybe not a work of genius, but highly entertaining. I might reread this at some point, and I will almost always finish the series if part of one.
5***** I loved this book. I found little to no issues with it at all. I will probably reread this and possibly more than once. I will definitely finish the series if it's part of one.

I like it, I love it, i want some more of it!!!! and I want this book to be out now!! Please! and Thank you.

I think how Rachel Caine plots this series could go on forever, it's just fantastic. Even though the plots may be repetitive but to me the character growth is just wonderful and how most of us seem sort of connected to the characters in some way Also the villains of the story like Oliver and Amelia you just love them and hate them at the same time and you would actually feel sad if they died. Also Eve,Claire,Shane, and Micheal are just a wonderful team and are all very different from each other but that's why they make such a great team. But you can't hang on to a good story forever so the series has to end sometime. These are just my opinions on why this series could last a long time though.

I am sooo excited for this book!! even though school will be on by the time this books comes out which will be sad atleast on the day of Nov.7 my day will be better cuz this books will be on the shelves ohhhh yeahhh.

Great read, I think it's one of the best books of the series cause the characters have grown soo much over the books. I gotta say though I think I just love myrnin even more after I read the part where Well in this book there is certainly a plot twist that will surprise you it surprised me. I can't wait till the next book and see where it's going. 6 more months to waite and 2 more books till the whole series is sadly down which i am curious but sad to see how it ends.

Oh Morganville, how I have missed you. This series is addictive and never fails at nonstop action and adventure. Please forgive me for being so vague in this review, but if I were to say to much it would give away so much of the story. We can't have all the secrets spilled like blood in one review!

Bitter Blood is again told from multiple POV's from all our favorite characters. The one that excited me the most was Myrnin though! We get to glimpse into his crazy mind and the author did a wonderful job of letting the reader understand what he goes through each day. Myrnin also knows that Morganville is changing. It is finally coming down to a war between the humans and the vampires. Sides will need to be chosen and our loyal group of four will find themselves put right in the middle of it. Previous evil villains will reemerge and try to play the game of chess with lives of all. Some you won't expect, others you will. One character will finally die, but I won't tell you which one or how.

We will also see the marriage between a vampire and human --Eve and Michael-- come to a major play for this book. Amelie didn't want this marriage to take place for a reason and it will be revealed why in this book. Shane and Claire will also have their own relationship struggle that will change their outcome as well.

Can I just say that what the author gave me as a reader in the last half of the book, was some of the best she has written yet. She wasn't afraid to take the road the fans will hate, but in time I believe it is for the best. There has been build up for this scene throughout the last few books -- if not all -- that finally comes to a climax. I think I was just as flabbergasted and shocked as the characters.

After thirteen installments in the Morganville story, it is great to know that the author can keep shocking me and keeping the story line interesting. For fans of Morganville, do not miss this one. Things are changing and evolving with each new chapter!

Oh this was kind of weird but good! :D
Morganville is finally moving towards some place and I like it. The characters are growing up and the grown ups are defined more clearly.
You can't read a Rachel Caine book and expect anything else than an action packed, intense and cleverly written plot. Bitter Blood delivered all those things and left me waiting for the next book one more time! There aren't many series that can keep readers hooked after that many sequels... So what's more to say?
I love the characters, I love the world this books are set in and I really really like the fact that I've gotten to the 13th book in these series and I still consider the story fast paced and intriguing. :)
The atmosphere was a bit heavier in this book. Morganville was never a walk in the park, but there was always someone who remained relatively happy. Here I couldn't for the life of me name one person that got it easy or wasn't half-way depressed or mad... The gang has been scattered, at least temporarily, and it remains up to Caine how she'll decide to write the end.
I won't say much more, but I can't help mentioning for the billionth time, as I have in all my reviews of this series that I LOVE MYRNIN!!! :D Seriously the guy is a mad genius and in here we finally got the chance to look inside his head! And boy did I like that! I'll miss the vampire bunny slippers!

This is one of those books that I had started reading, then just started losing interest. So I take a little break from it. Okay a long break from it.

Finally, finally I get around to getting back to book series I really should catch up or finish. Morganville Vampires series is one of those.

So I read where I left off. Apparently I was halfway into the book when I last read it. This was one of my favorite vampire series. But it happens with long book series, that you start to not love it as much.

Then once you take a break from it, you come back to it and are reminded why you loved reading said book series in the first place.

For me its not only the pace, the writing style but the characters. Especially Myrnin. Honestly he makes this book for me. Giving it a 3.5 just for him. Glad we got a Myrnin POV chapter this time.

Oh and the story does pick up so its nice to see Claire and co try to solve another predicament for the town.

Still a good installment but not as good as some of the other books in the series so far.

Good installment as we near the end

Every book in this series is crazy, with a lot going on and tons of drama, but this felt more serious and more mature. Everyone is growing up, Michael and Eve are facing the consequences of their marriage and learning what it means to be husband and wife. Claire is learning who she can truly rely on and what she wants for her future. Naomi is an interesting villain because we don't see her much, she's good at creating pawns to do things for her.
The ending of this is pretty significant and we are definitely looking down the barrel and the conclusion of the series.

Book thirteen in Rachel Caine’s Morganville Vampire series didn’t disappoint, although it ended up being pretty dark. The evil Draug is gone, but of course there’s always something on tap in this vampire controlled town to keep us on the edge of our seats, and in turn, keep us enthralled. If you plan on reading this series, keep in mind there may be spoilers.

Morganville has been beaten down by the evil Draug that ended up killing quite a few of it’s residents, both human and vampire. Now that they are defeated, it should be a time for calming down and taking a breath. Of course, it isn’t because Amelie(the vampire queen)has changed as has Oliver, her second in command. Things that would have never been tolerated in this community previously are now approved-including a vampire’s right to hunt-humans. Other things as well, but that is the big one. Claire is having none of it and risks her and Shane’s life while trying to reason with Amelie. What no one but Oliver knows is that someone else is now pulling the strings in Morganville and if this person isn’t stopped, it will be the end of life for most of the humans in this town.

Caine’s world building is still amazing as ever. I still marvel at her imagination that has kept me and probably millions of readers hanging on her every word while reading this series and I am sure her other series as well. She has created a world where vampires are the top of the hierarchy in a small college town, where taxes are paid in blood banks, and where most are never allowed to leave-except the college students that are happily oblivious to the problems that surround them, due to being off-limits to the vamps.

Caine’s characters are marvelously fleshed out and I can picture each of them. The core characters of Claire, Shane, Michael, and Eve are perfect for this series. The villains are always super bad and in this book, a fairly new character rises to mega villain level.

Claire and Shane’s relationship has always been one of my favorite parts of these books. The L word is on the table, but this book threatens to tear apart everything I love about this couple. And I actually think that was one of the worse things about this book. I started out thinking this book was a solid 4.5 star book, but the more I think on it, I am dropping it to 4 stars simply because of this element. It just went against everything I knew about one of this twosome’s character. And that’s the end of my rant!

Narration by Angela Dawe was good. I thought the characters voices were done well, and could only find fault with one voice-that of the vampire Myrnin and I found that one to be almost cartoon like. So 4 stars for narration and I would be happy to listen to her again.

I can’t recommend this series enough. Yes, it’s young adult, but don’t let that stop you. It’s one of my favorites of all the YA that I have read and can be definitely enjoyed by adults. A good book is a good book, regardless of who it’s supposedly written for. Highly recommended! (originally posted on RabidReads)

As usual, things in Morganville are unstable. While the town is getting rebuilt following the ordeal with the Draug, Oliver is able to influence Amelie into allowing sanctioned "hunts" of the humans in town in addition to other unfavorable to human policies. This, of course, stirs up the human anti-vampire feelings. Both sides seem to have picked Michael and Eve as a target of their spite.

It's funny, while I was reading this, I felt like things were dragging a bit, but now that I'm finished, I realized that a lot actually happened. Things are definitely in an interesting position at the end and it makes me want the next book in my hands ASAP.

Bitter Blood is the thirteenth installment to the Morganville Vampire series. I wish I could say that I adored this just as much as I did the others, but I just can't. I found myself rather disappointed with this one. You don't know how hard it is to give this book a 3 star and not a 5 like the rest of them. Don't get me wrong, I didn't hate it and I still had a good time being in this world again, but it felt very off compared to the rest.

I can't quite place the why's but maybe it's cause it felt more like we were going in circles and there was hardly any real action. Or the fact that the banter, wit and humor didn't really cut it. The ghost hunter thing felt more like background noise while Oliver and Amelie's control issues felt like the same old repeated same old.
There were a couple of shockers that dealt with Claire/Myrnin/Michael, and I'm not entirely sure how to feel about that, but it was the only moment that got me intrigued and excited enough to want to read on.

But what got me the most is what happened with Shane and Claire. Is it me or does anyone feel like we just took a huge step back with these two? They've been through so much together emotionally and physically within the relationship and all they had to endure within Morganville itself. So, why in the hell did they feel so shy and unsure about their relationship now? I mean Shane had that beautiful dream about what they were going to name their daughter and he wants to marry her one day and so on, so why did they get all blush-blush about moving in together or even saying the words I love you? I also hated the way Shane acted. I expected him to be mad but he was upset with the wrong person. I don't blame Claire a bit, it would have hurt me too.

I am however proud of Claire. Like always she's proven herself to be a fierce friend and loyal character. She's grown up so much in these books. I love how she can stand up for herself and the ones that she cares about. The way she deals with madness and can still look at evil in the eyes and say screw you! Awesome character!!

With that said, even though my feelings are kinda all over the place, I still love and adore this series.
True, this one felt all over the place and not consistent with the rest of the books and it also felt flat compared to the rest. But I still love this town. Two more books left and I still wish it could go on forever, but I can finally see where Caine is taking these characters next and a small part of me is actually ready to let them go.

Hoping the next book is filled with chili and tacos. Banter and wit. Dark humor and sweet moments. All the stuff that these books are made of.

Short Review: I too have bitter blood after reading this. The ghost hunters things seems behind grasping for a story line. I thought there was barriers up for this, I thought there was someone watching for people doing this shit, thought they had towers blocking signals and shit, guess for this book, that is all forgotten, how topical. Then we have the power struggle between Emily and Oliver, which hey we have had for about 12 books now! Fuck. I was bored and didn't give any shits about this book because i had to go through a sex scene of Claire and Shane. So close to the end but yet so far it seems. Oh then they are beating up Eve for marrying a vampire right, then later, she is invited to the vampires tea parties.... make sense of that one.

It feels so good to be walking down the street of Morganville. The taste of the coffee, the blood mobiles driving by, it never ceases to amaze me of how quickly I fall into this series as if I never left. Meeting up with Claire and the glass gang once again, I adored every step in her shoes.

As always with vampires it's always a power play. It's no surprise that once again Morganville is under attack and this time it's happening all under the nose of Amelie. I have to admit that the plot of the story runs a bit deeper than what I thought. Amelie is getting played and Claire is finding the culprit to stop the damage that is being done. There are several plot twist that made my heart ache. Claire is always saving others only to have it bite her right in the butt! I mean really!!! C'mon! Throw me a freaking bone here!

The love interest. Oh boy, you don't want to get me started there. All I can say is,"Seriously Shane? Really? After all that she has done it's like that!" And "Micheal, I'm so sorry." And "Eve, please don't blame them."

If I say anymore that I'd be giving away spoilers. Know this, that Ms. Caine takes it up a notch when it comes your heart and emotions. There are lies, ultimate betrayals all leading up to a powerful ending I can not contain. The beginning may be a bit slow but do not be fooled. It will get hard to read as the power play unravels itself in front of the reader. And when it does, you will not be able to look away...

Bitter Blood indeed leaves a bitter taste in your mouth. The changes in the plot and characters are not good ones leading up to BIG decisions. I thought I had seen and read it all when it came to Ms. Caine. She once again, left me utterly speechless with the impressive storytelling of The Morganville Vampires. Bitter Blood leaves the reader painfully aware that the end is coming and when it does, it will not be good. A successful story that you don't want to miss, Bitter Blood is a must read.

Yet another great book in this series, and one of the best vampire series out there. The story is fresh and original and the characters are developing even more, which I can’t believe since there are so many books. Some of the chapters are from Chara’s point of view which introduces another layer of understanding to the characters. You’re unsure of how the story’s going to go, whether it would go to Claire and Shane or Naomi, which keeps you hooked until the very end, and the cliff-hanger is typical Rachel Caine.

So I am not to fond of Miranda - don't ask me why. For real what is with the show coming to try to catch ghosts.....I don't think you will find them in Morganville lol. I still with Amelie would turn Claire into a vampire I would like to see that. I love seeing Michael and Eve finally trying to work thru things as husband and wife. They are the cutest couple. Except now it reminds me of the civil war - they're being treated as a "mixed" marriage. I mean come on Morganville....

Amelie again with the misplaced mercy for usurpers. If Bishop can break out, so can the next one. And since she just pissed off the whole vamp community…

Though this was a good villain - bending Amelie’s closest allies and supporters to her own will instead. Whatever compulsion that is must be significant because she doesn’t have to be anywhere near them.

I don’t always love Claire - she’s too dependent on Shane, she consistently makes poor decisions that land her in at best precarious situations and at worst life threatening situations for her and anyone around her. If it weren’t for the Plot Armor, they’ve have been dead in like book 2, 3 max.

Claire saved Myrnin which is the only reason I’m still awake at 11:11 PM on the Sunday after we sprung forward and I have to be up in under six hours. I wish she’d throw Shane away and try Myrnin out, take him to MIT.

Mob mentality is a scary thing and Rachel Caine did a great job portraying that. Even young kids are capable of horrible things. And Claire hopping into Monica’s car is a throwback to Claire saving Monica from the mob in whatever book that was near the beginning. A human mob was going to kill Monica who may be an adult but is still a teenager. A human mob of high schoolers was going to kill Eve simply because she married Michael. Live and let live, y’all. It’s fair that the humans were ready to revolt with the mirroring of Nazi Germany and the ID cards. They’ve been shit on since Amelie founded the town. But to take down other humans who aren’t involved in the politics man… idk it hits close to every day problems all over the world I guess and I’m simply too tired to get all philosophical. The loose pattern is still holding up; I dislike or don’t care for one book and then I love the next. Overall still a very good series, but frustrating. Probably because the MC are teenagers or 1,000+ year old vampires who clearly never matured.

The blood hits the proverbial fan in BITTER BLOOD and the fallout makes it one of the most daring Morganville books to date. I’ve long had a number of ‘what if’ questions floating around in my head involving certain Morganville residents that I honestly never expected to actually happen, but Rachel Caine completely shocked me in BITTER BLOOD by letting not one, or two, but three HUGE game changing events play out (one of which still has me reeling). Forget about the happily ever after pairings you thought you knew…there is nothing, I repeat nothing, predictable about the events in BITTER BLOOD.

Shocking lip locks aside, Claire once again shares POV with a handful of other characters including a few fascinatingly deranged chapters from Myrnin’s POV that offered glimpses into his very tragic past. I’ve never fully embraced these POV shifts since I prefer Claire’s narration, so I was pleased that there were only a few shifts this time leaving the lion’s share of the story with Claire.

This is the vampire series you should be reading. There are two more books currently contracted in the Morganville Vampire series, with the potential for more after that. With each installment, I think Rachel Caine has finally written herself into a corner, only to find that she’s perfectly set up events for the next book. I’ve stopped questioning how on earth Claire and her friends are going to prevail next time and learned to trust Rachel. Whatever happens next, it’s going to be a crazy fun ride. The next book in the Morganville Vampire series called FALL OF NIGHT will be out in May 2013. Please, please put this series on TV before then.

Morganville appears to be back to normal but sadly this is not the case when Claire and the Glass House residents get a surprise in the mail: ID cards for the humans and gold cards for vampires giving them special privileges. Claire decides to take matters in her own hands and fight against the system but as always, the task is not easy.

Bitter Blood had many storylines going at once. A camera crew has entered Morganville and seeks content on ghosts for their TV show. Naomi is working behind the scenes to overthrow Amelie. Myrnin leaves town but ends up in trouble. The Glass House residents struggle with Miranda being in the house and their privacy. And of course, there are the mandatory side stories for the Monica and Jason.

Since this book is only three books from the end of the series, I was hoping it would be dark and more epic than the previous installments but that wasn't really the case. Naomi proved to be a minor threat to Amelie and the entire town of Morganville (since her threat only lasts one book). The story frequently sidetracked to the TV crew. These new characters felt one-dimensional and showed up everywhere and did trivial things. They were pests more than anything!

I must say I do enjoy Claire's interactions with Monica (even though Monica is a pest). It's just fun to see her comebacks at Monica's nasty comments. Michael and Eve's forbidden love is a huge part of the series but I still don't really care for it. I am interested in Claire and Shane's relationship though. They still have things to sort out before the series is over!

Clare, the girls who seems to be the only one who can solve anything is fixing the vamp town again ! After the last book you would think the vamps would be gracious towards the humans. They would be moving forward to continue the vision for the town ? Nope, silly you, now they want to hunt them, control them, go backwards about 20 steps. She this barely legal girl out matches even the oldest vampire, with her massive brain power. WEll, she is smart in many ways except in her choice of men. Shane really brings his inner cavejerk out. "Roar, hear me run away and blame' Shane the Shameful.
Okay so it's the basically the same ole' everyday thing in town, except somebody is manipulating minds. Who ? I can't tell, but it took them long enough to figure it out. Okay so minds are twisted, the town is getting bad (when isn't it?) , so bad even Myrnin is wanting to leave. When he disappears only one person worries for him, guess who ? On his final goodbye scene to Clare, he gives her something to remember him by. (My highlight of the book) So he's out of the story and the town is going coo coo for cocopuffs. There are fights, beatings, rocks thrown, names called and threats. There is a strange TV crew that arrives in town hunting down ghosts. (this was just weird) The ghosts come out and play. Micheal gives a little something to Clare, Shane and Eve go crazy angry. There is more fighting, more words. Clare makes a smart move and.... Phew-
it was nothing new for this old town but it was an exciting read. The saddest part, the outcome for the bunny slippers. ; (......

I have to say i quiet enjoy this book, its been one of the better ones out of the last few.

Man the twist and turns in this book!!! i saw none of it coming!! with that Rachel has out done herself!! and thats one decent cliff hanger at the end. i wonder how she's going to do the next book???

well lets start off with claire - she was even MORE badass in this book than in the past! i know hard to believe but she's my hero, gotta love a nerdy chick who kicks ass with the best of them. ;)
Shane is not in my good books at the moment, he was for a while but of course he always has to screw shit up.
Micheal was as awesome as always, and Eve was her usual entertaining self.
Myrnin - Oh My *swoon* that scene between him and claire *fan's self* sheesh! im jealous!
but actually one of the people who stood out the most for me in this book was Mir! i cant wait for her to pop up again (hopefully in the next book) and see her grow!

The multiple POVs made this book, it made everything so much more complicated and exciting and breathtaking!! i was on my toes for nearly the whole book waiting to see what happened next!!

speculating over it with Joan made it even better!! hard to believe i know :P
so if u havent read this book yet do it NOW!!! trust me u wont be let down!

here's Joan's fantastic review!!

Is this the end? I kinda felt a little lost at the end of this book. Our delightful heroine Claire Danvers has always gone one step more than anyone to try to save the "victim" of either the vampire or human race. All she wants is peace. Not too much to ask of anyone but a Morganville townsperson. Now that other vampires/draug are defeated, it seems like a good time to rebuild the town and relationships between the humans and the vampires residing in Morganville. But when the Founder/Queen turns it into a Nazi like zone, even the humans are terrifying to be around. They say "No good deed goes unpunished" they could have been speaking of the Glass House residence. Claire, Shane, Eve and even vampires Micheal and Myrnin are now on the 'we want you dead' list of EVERYBODY! If you don't have papers on you at all times, you are fair game for any vamp who want's to hunt you. And even with papers, a vampire would only be fined for killing a protected person. And the target of everyone's wrath are the Glass house kids. I hated that everyone wanted to split up...I realize that they are growing up...maybe Rachel will bring them back together 5 years older and wiser. Although Micheal will NEVER age...how will that work with his human wife, Eve? I still have a lot of questions!

As excited as I am for this book to be in my hands right now, I don't ever want this series to come to an end!

It takes a certain kind of diligence to keep a fandom interested for thirteen books-especially with the unfathomable amount of series popping out every so often-but to be able to still surprise a fandom after thirteen books belongs only to Rachel Caine.
Starting this book was like meeting some friends I hadn't seen in a while, and I savored every second of it, until we departed. Like meeting old friends, the stay was full of excitement and unexpected news, some remained exactly as they were, some had changed whether to the worse or better. I wanted to know more about the curious Amelie and Oliver and my beloved Myrnin, and more is exactly what I got. I wanted a break from the We-belong-together-forever relationships and that's what I got.

I'll be just as ravished six months from now to read the 14th installment of the Morganville vampires, and should Rachel Caine decide to make it a twenty book series instead of fifteen, I'd still read every single one with as much anticipation. One thing about the MVV: it doesn't disappoint you.
