A Love Untamed

Rate this book
The newest member of the elite Feral Warriors brotherhood, Fox is eager to prove himself on the frontlines of battle against the Daemons. When paired with the legendary Ilina warrior, Melisande, he expects the fierce beauty to quickly fall under the spell of his quite considerable charm. Instead, he finds himself spellbound by a woman who's his match in every way.

Beneath Melisande's brittle exterior lies centuries of pain and a violent hatred of all shape-shifters—a hatred that slowly crumbles after they're caught in a deadly and cunning Mage trap and she glimpses a surprising depth in her far-too-seductive partner. I didn't expect to like this book - with Mosquito Brain as the heroine, how could I? - but at least I hoped it would be hot and exciting like the past books in the series. But it wasn't even that.

We first met Melisande aka Mosquito Brain in Hunger Untamed as Ariana's second and all around shifter hater. Because of her hatred, she had stopped the mating between her Queen and a Feral, unwittingly poisoning her whole race and causing the death of 96 of her sisters. In this book, we learned the reason for her hatred, which made sense in the particular but not in the general. Some shifters did something bad to her so she hated ALL shifters. Even though she was able to exact her revenge and kill the people that hurt her, she didn't let go of that prejudice.

Then she meets Fox, one of the new Ferals and by trying to hurt him, she finds out that he can be her mate. By a convoluted set of circumstances, she's paired with Fox in a mission. This was so freaking boring, with the same things happening over and over, that I won't go into it.

After she held her irrational hatred for over 5 millenia, it seemed to me she got over it pretty quickly. That didn't seem real to me. And the way she dealt with her guilt about all the stupid shit she had done was pretty unbelievable: "I was wrong but I meant well." ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME? You're not supposed to forgive yourself that you poisoned almost a hundred of your sisters because of your stupid prejudice. You can learn to live with it, yes, but meaning well (which I really doubt) is NO JUSTIFICATION for killing innocent people, you freaking moron.

And that meeting with Julianna didn't make any sense. Nobody will ever forgive you for killing their parents. That's another stupid act that you must learn to live with.

Even with this less than lackluster entry in the series, I'm looking forward to Wulfe's book.

I honestly did not expect to enjoy A Lover Untamed as much as I did. I have had a serious hate on for Melisande from the moment she was introduced. I hated her even more after reading Hunger Untamed, Kougar’s book. By the end of A Lover Untamed I can honestly say I no longer hate Melisande, she is still not my favorite and I believe I will never really like her. She has an interesting past. Her life has been hard and it has led her to do the things that she has done. She is someone you want on your team. She may be cold, but she has honor and will do anything for her fellow Ilina’s.

Kieran is the new Fox. He makes fox shifters sexy. He has fought with and trained the Therian Guard for numerous years. He knows that he has what it takes to be a Feral Warrior. He remains hopeful that he will be marked. He knows of the trapped animal spirits becoming freed and now marking the next in line. Kieran also fits in perfectly at Feral House. The relationship between Foxylocks and Jagabelle is too funny. It also reemphasizes the brotherhood like camaraderie that these warriors have.

When the trapped animal spirits were freed from the spirit trap I knew awesome things would come from that. I have not been disappointed by where that has taken this series. I love the things that are happening with the new Ferals. The Mage have figured out a way to keep the Feral Warriors in a constant fight with themselves. They can never let their guard down. They have no way of knowing which animal spirit is tainted. It has kept the action non-stop.

As always Palmer incorporates the past couples into the current book. I love seeing the past couples present and happy. Readers are also given some new guys to drool over. Grizz had a significant role. The little info that readers are given about him was interesting. He is one of the newer members of the Feral Warriors and he is put in an awkward situation due to a conversation he overhears. Needless to say where this takes him has me curious about him and wanting to know more about his character.

Notes: I read the eARC and quotes will need to be checked against finished copy.
My Synopsis:

He didn't think he had the capacity to love someone...

"I've no heart to give you, Jill," he said quietly, regretfully.

"So you've told me many a time, but you're wrong Kieran. You've a big heart in that finely hewn chest. You just haven't met the right female, yet."

Kieran didn't think he had the capacity to ever love someone. His sister had died and he had suffered so much agony and pain that he couldn't image what it'd be like to lose a wife, a mate. So he'd made up his mind never to seek to have one.

She thought she was would never be able to trust another man...

"Melisande is a good person, but she has a violent and justified hatred of Therians. While she's obligated to honor my alliance with the Ferals, she's unpredictable. She won't try to kill you. But that's about all I can guarantee. And if you hurt her, even that's off the table."

Betrayed by a past lover in a way that would break many in the same position, she had learned to hate all Therians and mistrust men. While her scars might not be visible, the wounds are still raw and run deep, but Melisande is a survivor.

Fate, however, had other plans...

The petite blonde flung her empty hand toward him as if it were not empty at all, as if she meant to toss a fireball in his face.

Instead, exquisite sexual pleasure rushed though his body on a blast so strong, so pure, that that he nearly came right there in the middle of the hallway. On a groan, he arched his back, his eyes dropping closed as the pleasure roared through him, wave after wave of pure ecstasy.

For there is only one individual whom an Ilinas such as Melisande can't hurt, and that's their potential mate.

When Kara, the Therians' Radiant is kidnapped, the Ferals and Ilinas' unite to find her...

"Tell me how many warriors you need, Paenther, and they'll be at your disposal."

"Half a dozen, preferably in mist form so they won't be seen by passing humans. Is that possible?"

Ariana nodded. "Yes, if they're careful."

...the two are paired together and will learn to rely and depend on one another.

Sometimes fate just can't be denied.

My Thoughts:

This is the seventh book in the Feral Warriors series. While you don't necessarily need to read the previous books in the series, I recommend that you at least read the first and sixth book. There is a lot going on within the Feral Warrior world and there are a lot of relationships, events and history you may not wish to miss, so you may wish to read them all.

"At one time, all Therians had been shape-shifters, able to shift into their animals at will. But those days ended five millennium ago when, for a brief period of time, the Mage and Therians banded together, mortgaging the bulk of their power to defeat the Daemons. who were terrorizing the Earth." Magic and power, however, have their price and the power they'd pledged had never returned. Since then, only one Therian of each animal line has retained the original abilities held by all. That individual has always been the strongest and finest of his or her line. The chosen are known as Feral Warriors and they've banned together over the years to ensure the safety of their race and the world against the return of the Daemons. When one warrior dies another is marked and becomes the next Feral of his or her line.

Recently, however, everything changed because of an evil Mage using dark magic cast a spell designed to force the animal spirits to choose the most evil and morally corrupt among each line. In some instances, the animal spirits were powerful enough to overcome the spell. In other instances, however, they were not. Now the question is which of the latest bunch of newly marked Ferals are good and which are evil? Can any truly be trusted? Additionally, Kara, the warriors' Radiant, the female who pulls the energy from the earth which renews, aids and empowers the Therian race, has been kidnapped. Without her, the race will weaken and none of the newly marked Ferals will be able to make the full transition to their newly acquired animal forms. The Ferals believe the Mage who bespelled them is the one who captured their Radiant in order to use her powers.

Kieran, now Fox, is among the newly chosen. Luckily, because of his connection with the Ferals there is no question that he is the person who should have been selected. He's well liked and has taught many Therians how to fight and defend themselves. Since his sister's death he hasn't allowed any one to get close to him. He has a big heart, a great capacity to love, but anything more than a one night stand she shies away from.

Melisande is a Ilina. The race had gone into hiding thousands of years ago after the majority of their people were killed. Melisande had an indirect role in what happened to her people and the loss, betrayal and abuse she endured has left her emotionally scared. She's strong, but has sworn off all males and has come to hate all Therians as the man who betrayed her was a shape-shifter. Some call her a bitch and perhaps at times she is, but she has her reasons. Fox, if he wishes to explore the powerful attraction between the two, will have his work cut out for him. He'll have to get through the barriers she's erected and help her confront her fears.

I enjoyed how Melisande slowly (or at least it seemed slowly) learns to trust Fox. She is put in a position where her life is in danger and Fox is the one who keeps her safe. Normally Melisande would be a kick butt heroine, but due to the deadly affect some of the Mage's wards have on the Ilinas she needs protection only a Therian can provide. As the two begin to rely on each other, their attraction grows more intense. While Fox isn't the soul reason she begins to let go of her fears of a relationship and intimacy, he definitely plays a huge role. I loved the way he handled her and took a cautious approach with her. He made sure she was comfortable with everything every step of the way.

Overall, I gave this one 4 out of 5 roses. Not a lot of conclusion due to ongoing and continuing story lines, but plenty of action, drama, suspense and, of course, romance. While I enjoyed the ending to this tale, I look forward to seeing how all those loose ends will eventually come together and be resolved. It's those ongoing story lines that make the series so addictive. If you like paranormal romance, this is a series you may want to take a look at. On the Lisarenee Romance Rating Scale, this one gets a STEAM rating--too hot for a fan, but you still have a handle on things. You should use extreme caution when reading a book with this rating in public. People may inquire as to why you looked flustered and flushed.

Narrator Performance: 4/5

This is officially my least favorite of the series thus far. It was very slow moving. That slowness was a key part to the plot but I found it tedious and tiresome.

Fox was awesome though. I'd happily put him in my hottie harem. He's both sexy and sweet.

Umm, yeah, I know the cover is FUGLY. With all letters capitalized. And the title kinda silly...
But I love Feral Warriors series and after the last book, Ecstasy Untamed, I can't wait for what the new Feral Warrior will delivered. Beside this new Fox might be my type of hero.

Can't they change the model of this one to Paul Marron? Please?

After the way the last book in the series ended, I had been stalking the sites waiting for my chance to pounce on the next book in advance. When it became available for review, my fingers clicked faster than the eye could see. Yes everyone, I was that anxious to read the next book in the Feral Warrior world.

We start the story eight days before the story ended in the last one. Kieran is training new recruits into the Therian Guard. It is then that he becomes marked as a new Feral Warrior along with one other. From this point we also get to flash forward slowly up until the point of what actually happened those last few moments in book six. We see who kidnapped Kara -- their Radiant and Lyon's mate -- and how it all went down.

I always had a soft spot for Fox even when it was the previous one. I missed the Cub, but when Kieran was marked as his replacement I decided to give him a chance. He still had the playfulness of the previous Fox, but he was also a born warrior. There was no mistaking the good that is in him. Melisande was never a favorite character of mine. She was without emotion and just to hard for my taste. Even though I wasn't a fan of her, I tried to embrace her personality and give her a chance. What we learn of her past though is actually what made her the cold and vicious warrior that she is today. Only Fox is the one who has touched her tender side and he is the only one who can bring it out. Mel is aware from the get go that he is her destined mate but she refuses to accept it. She wants to stay cold and unfeeling without having to accept a Feral Warrior as her mate. She has despised them for so long, she is afraid to even let one close enough to see her weakness.

The two become trapped in a Mage Labyrinth with no way out that they can find. This where the story started to fall for me. I enjoyed the small connections between the two characters and understand that this is their book, but I wanted the other Feral's included more. Each book the author has had before this one has had a balance of main characters and side characters. The reader received enough of each to stay satisfied. With Love Untamed, we are only given small glimpse's of the rest of the Warrior's and it didn't satisfy me as a fan of the series. We were given small pieces of further story but not enough to get the reader as excited as before. There are still some questions unanswered. This fine since it is a series, but too many can lead to the reader becoming to frustrated to continue in the journey.

The rescue of Kara was also rushed and too easy. I expected it to be much more with all Feral Warrior's included in the rescue. Instead they only appear near the end of the rescue. If they are rescuing Kara from the evil Mage's main stronghold, you would think it would have been a little harder than what it was.

Overall I was glad to have read this one early. I am left guessing of what will come in the next one even if I felt a little cheated with it. Not one of my favorites of the series like I was hoping, but one very worth the time and money especially if you are a huge fan of the series. Now the only problem is waiting even longer for the next one to arrive!

My review and an extended sample of the audiobook are posted at Hotlistens.com.

A Love Untamed is the seventh and second to last story in the Feral Warriors series. In this story, we have Kieran, who is now known as Fox. He has joined the elite Feral Warriors during a very turbulent time. The newest Feral Warriors aren’t all that they seem, so the original warriors don’t know who to trust.

Melisande is second in command of the Ilinas who we met in Hunger Untamed. She is a woman who is all warrior with no conscience. She got that way after suffering from terrible abuse. Her lack of feelings was the only way she was able to survive. Fox cracks the ice, but Melisande has to determine if she is willing to go on feeling. It is much harder to do her job when she has feelings.

In this story, Kara is stolen by the mages and tainted ferals. It is up to Fox, Ilinas and the Feral Warriors to find her. They also have to figure out who is tainted and who isn’t. The majority of the story is focused on Fox and Melisande as they fight their way through the many different worlds of the mage trap. There is also a side story with two of the new ferals going off on their own to prove that they aren’t tainted.

This series continues on it’s dark path, as one of the darkest, if not the darkest, paranormal romance series I’ve ever read. The world-building around this darkness is so well developed that you are completely immersed into the dark world that Palmer has created. I can’t wait to see how she plans to wrap up this series.

Narration
I was worried that I would have the issue with this narration that I had when Rob Shapiro narrated Hunger Untamed, the other story that featured the Ilinas. In that book, he whispered the female voices, that was not an issue with this book. I continue to think he does a good job with this series. You can always tell which character is the one speaking, which is very important to me. I do listen to this at an increased speed because he does speak a little slow for me, but the increased speed works perfectly, in my opinion

I like to thank Tantor Audio for providing me with a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

Oh how I love this series. It doesn't matter that it's been a few months since I finished Hawke and Faith's book Ecstasy Untamed , just the first line got me right back into it like it was yesterday and I was reminding once again how truly awesome these books are.

The Feral Warriors are all men you want to see succeed and get their HEAs and despite being one of the newest, Keiran/Fox is no different. He's a charming Irish lad, a descendant of the Fox line, but he tows the same line of defeating evil that his Feral brothers do. I loved watching him emerge as even more of a hero while finding out love makes a man stronger.

I knew beforehand that Melisande, the Ilina warrior would be his match but I wasn't sure how much I would like her. In the previous books since we've meet her in Kougar and Ariana's book, Hunger Untamed, we knew her to be a hard woman, one filled with ice and no emotions. But I was touched as we finally found out the reasons behind her personality, the tragedies that befell her and changed her into who she was.

And I absolutely loved that Fox was able bring forth her inner being and help her join both halves of herself and that allowed her to be happy and accept the mating bond with Fox.

This was absolutely a great and riveting read and while I'm super excited to get to Wulfe's book, I'm also extremely saddened by the thought that there's only one book left in the series!

Highly recommend this book and series!

I feel like this bad cover cursed the book. Fox isn't anything like the guy on it, in fact he is sort of bland, which is why I felt sorry that he felt the pull of Melisande, who so far has been a bitch. That didn't change for most of this book. We do find out why she is like that. Did it make me feel empathy for her, yes, did it make me like her more, not really. For someone as old as she is, she shouldn't have held on to her rage for so long. Another thing that I didn't get, or felt was inapporiate, was how Fox and Melisande would stop off for sex while they were running from mages and trying to find Kara.

I was more interested in what was going on with Kara and the evil, but maybe not evil, lost 17 ferals. It made sense how the ferals were sabatoged, but even worse how just how evil some of them were.

I almost didn't want to continue with this series after this book, but I sort of want to know what is going to happen to Griz and Lepard, plus I hope Lynks gets his, he really needs it with his confession to Kara.

Fox is a new character in the series, his two predecessors died in the previous books, and I liked how Pamela Palmer introduced him. Beside being a skilled warrior, he is a playful kind of guy and his relationship with Melisande was ok, what I didn't like in this book is the plot.

I honestly found the labyrinth part boring (it was the main part of the book), I also would have liked more interactions between the guys and less tête-à-tête between Fox and Mel. Last but not least, after the never ending labyrinth part, Kara's rescue was too rushed.

Another thing that bugged me is that How stupid is that?

I was hoping the next feral novel would showcase Wulfe, but hey, I enjoyed the Irish Fox. A subplot concerning the kidnapping of Kara, the Radiant, kept the plot moving. I wonder though, If Pamela Palmer is bringing too many characters into this world, good ferals, evil ferals, who can keep it all straight? Out of the new characters, I admit Grizz intrigues me, we are not sure what he is.

As for the love story, Fox is hot, and yes, being Irish amped up his attractiveness to me. The heroine Melisande is your standard paranormal kick-ass heroine with a troubled past. I did love the way Fox treated her with such gentle reverence. Ultimately, I enjoyed this read and if you are a fan of shape-shifters, the Feral Warriors are for you! (this was book 7)

Loved the interaction with Fox and Melisande, as well as the other Ferals. Took them forever to rescue Kara. So glad she's finally safe, for now. Poor, poor Wulfe. Anxious to see him finally have a mate he can truely love and move on from Beatrice.

First, you have to get past the cover. Fox is described as being a very beautiful man but whomever chose the cover art needs to get glasses. I actually slapped a fabric cover on my book because I could not stand looking at the photo! Second, I was very happy to see Melisande as a heroin. You get to know Melisande in Hunger Untamed and I found her to be much more interesting that Ariana. If you have been reading the Feral Warriors in order, as you should, you might find similarities between Melisande and Jag. The behavior of both characters stems from traumatic prior experiences. Melisande is the attracted to Fox's physical beauty, perseverance and gentleness. Fox likes the fact that Melisande is resistant to his charms but also recognizes her skill as a warrior along with her beauty. The pair get through emotional strain and a challenging maze to find the captured Kara before it is too late.

While this series is altogether not good, this book is easily the worst of them. Melisande is terrible. You're going to hold a grudge for 5 MILLENNIA, murder innocent people (including almost 100 of your own sisters) and then a hot guy comes along, you fall in love, and all is forgiven? Part of the reason I didn't like Ariana and Kougar's book was because everyone just looked past the fact that Melisande went to the Mage to screw with their mating bond in the first place, which is really what caused all the devastation. Ariana and Kougar spent most of their book blaming themselves and each other for what happened when it was ALL BECAUSE OF MELISANDE. So she ruined their book and her own. Fox's character did nothing to help this book. He was so boring and flat. His only redeeming contribution was that it was funny how he couldn't control his animal's size.

For the full review, including Memorable Quotes and similar recommended reads, check out the review on GraveTells.com at http://gravetells.com/2012/11/14/arc-...

Things are pretty grim at Feral house, and all is not well with the warriors. Their Radiant is gone, kidnapped, and their leader is a hot mess. They need to get Kara back soon, not just for the radiance they all need to survive, but for Lyon's sanity and mental stability. If she dies, he will most certainly follow.

The prickly, rage-ridden Melisande has been a mystery since we first met her in Zee and Julianne's story. Her history is a traumatic one, and A Love Untamed brings it all back into brutally unforgiving focus for the Ilina who has had to harden her heart and spirit to survive so much. Mel is literally an ancient, so I loved learning "firsthand" about the times before The Sacrifice and all that came just after. The burden of such a long memory and existence must be fierce, but nothing haunts Melisande more than her personal trauma and the need to maintain her shield and the cold heart that lets her keep on keepin' on... to serve her queen and make amends with her sisters.

I loved getting to see Zee and Julianne again! Theirs was the very first Ferals story I read, Hearts Untamed, a short in an anthology called Bitten By Cupid, and where I first met my shifter crush, Jag. Zee and Kieran/Fox have been friends for many years, and their bond is tight. Our new Fox is a charmer, all sweet, sexy, and Irish. His speech and vocabulary are well crafted, and it's easy to imagine his deep, smooth voice lilting in the brogue that has made many a female heart flutter.

"Things are not as they seem" has been a theme throughout the Feral Warriors books, but it's practically the anthem of A Love Untamed. Mage traps, untrusted new Ferals, and brutally drastic measures define this new turn in the series. The Feral Warriors are definitely off the rails! Secrets about the warriors you thought you knew and revelations about some who've lost their way fill in storyline gaps that fans of the series will relish. Melisande and Fox are lovely together, and getting to learn more about some of the unmated characters was exciting. It looks like the next book may take a break from the usual mage-focused plot; this is the first book in a long time that tied up the main storyline without leaving me gasping at an unexpected ending. Cliffhanger? But of course! The good news is you probably won't be pulling out your hair from the suspense with this one!

As much as I've enjoyed the recent mage storylines, I'm glad the next book looks to be focused on some relatively new characters outside the immediate grasp of Inir and his daemon minions. While Fox and Mel are both compelling characters and I really enjoyed their interaction, their intimate scenes didn't have the same "oomph" some of the others have had for me. I think that might be partly due to Fox being less "alpha" than the other males (he's a charmer, a sweetheart, and a gentleman) and partly due to the emotional restrictions Mel's past has cursed her with. Jag, the resident bad boy of Feral House, was also tamer than usual, and I missed his usual abundance of snarky banter. I loved the threads weaving history between Jag, Olivia, Fox, Melisande, Arianna, Kougar, Zeeland, and Julianna; I think this is the first time a couple has had more than one connection to the Ferals on both sides, and it made for great character-building.

Memorable Quotes

Jagabelle? *snicker*

"How you doing, Foxylocks? Why don’t you walk on two feet for a while, take a break?"
"I’m fine, Jagabelle, but thanks for the concern."
"Yeah, well I wasn’t really asking, Fox-man. Maintaining the shift can be taxing for a new Feral, and the last thing we need is for you to do a face plant from exhaustion just as we cross a traveling party of Mage."
"That would be poor strategy, wouldn’t it?"

The golden heart of Fox...

Sometimes the psyche built defenses for a reason. Sometimes they were the only things that kept people whole.
If he could undo whatever it was between Melisande and him, and give her back her ice and fire . . . make her quit hurting . . . he’d do it.
But what was done was done. He just had to find a way to traverse this minefield without hurting her more.
As they walked in silence, she reached for his hand. Without looking at him, she pulled it to her mouth and placed a tender kiss upon his knuckles.
His heart clenched and he tipped his head back, filled with an incredible sweetness. His arm ached to go around her and pull her close, but he would not risk spoiling the moment for anything. Instead, he squeezed her hand, caressing the silken back with his thumb.
How had this small slip of a woman come to mean so much?

Final Thoughts:

This 7th installment in the Feral Warriors series is a memorable gauntlet of past sins and their devastating consequences, studded with gentle humor and acceptance, and culminating in a powerful bond and the redemption of one of the most unlikely heroines of the series. While it wasn't my favorite read of them all, it is definitely a solid contribution to an already outstandingly addicting series. A Love Untamed is a GraveTells Recommended Read!

I rated this higher as it is a part of an series. If read as a standalone novel, it would receive 3 stars for being so slow paced. So read all the books prior to this one first better enjoyment. All the feral men are hit AF, Fox is no exception. Pleased also to find I like the women mates paired to these men. They are all bad ass in thier own right.

I really liked this book, but it was in a different format than the other books. In the end I liked the format better, it just took me longer to get into. Loved the book and I am ready to start the last book in the series.

I liked fox's story. To discover his animal was still enchanted I though more would be shared on that. At least the other peoples story line where not so much in this book it was solely Mel and Fox's story.
Though I feel there are so many lose ends. Guess I now have to read book 8.

The Feral Warriors seem to have so much going against them, it was sometimes hard to keep hope for them. But it seems hardship creates strong bonds

Sorry, but I am not going to read this book! Melisandre is a bitch that caused trouble, and how did she get rewarded? With a hot Feral. Hell, NO!

I need to preface this review by stating I won this book in one of the giveaways. I hadn't read any other books in this series, but was extremely excited when a signed copy of A LOVE UNTAMED arrived. Pamela was so generous in sending book marks, a personal note inside the book itself & a another personal card along with it. Her kindness to take the time to add those personal touches was truly heartwarming & I'm thankful to have been
So lucky!
Now as far as the book is concerned, I absolutely loved it as I began reading. I could hear Kieran's sexy accent as I read the words & although I had my doubts about just how sexy he could stay as a fox Pamela did not disappoint me. I could see the story play out like a movie in my head from the first few pages, something that is not as common as it should be. Each character appeared with complete uniqueness one by one. The perfect description of the Ilinas made them vivid in my minds eye. How beautiful Melisande must be even with her cold warrior exterior. The beauty that Ms Palmer brings to the love story that is Fox & Melisande is remarkable. I will admit I'd gotten impatient waiting for the moment that these two came together, but it was indeed worth the wait. The details are sweet, spicy & completely ill timed as most paranormal encounters should be. When I finally began reading thru those pages I felt a great sense of accomplishment for those two characters. Being unfamiliar with this series, I only had this books' descriptions to connect with each character, which may have put me at a slight disadvantage. Even with that however, I quickly fell in love with parts of all of them including Grizz & his constant snarling at the world. Kara is brought to life with magnificent description fitting her perfectly as the light, kind, warm & lovely "radiant" she is & ferals are each given their own distinction highlighting the pros & cons of their own unique characters. This is all done with smooth & hypnotizing story telling that allows a reader to merge directly into this world with ease. That said, the deeper I sank into this story the more I found some of its descriptions slightly repetitive & less engaging. Not of the characters themselves, but of their dialogue & actions. Also this story definitely has a few dark underlines. One of these is understandable due to the building of connection to a main character. You need this information, no matter the difficulty of knowing it, to sympathize with Melisande & truly get to know how she became who she is. The other? I'm not convinced the other dark portion was a necessity. Yes it was hit on briefly & yes it answered a pertinent question, but as a mother who enjoys paranormal romance for entertainment it felt unnecessary. I think there were better explanations for what had occurred than the disturbing turn the story was allowed to take. No matter how brief the point is made. It still makes a point & it left me with a sickened feeling for the rest of the book. This is my personal opinion & may not affect every reader the way it did me. These points did not ruin the story for me but did take away from it slightly.
I still wish to read more into this series in hopes that the beginning books are as engaging as this one without the more disturbing portions.
All in all an extremely well woven tale. The characters are exciting & well placed. The description of each locale is detailed & well written. Pamela Palmer is generous, imaginative, & an incredible weaver of adventure, suspense, & seduction. Thank you to her for all of that. I'll certainly be checking out the rest of this series and I'll most definitely keep going feral!

Vampire Book Club

A Love Untamed is new Feral Warrior Fox’s book. It takes a different turn from the others in the series in that it starts off with a recap of events from Ecstasy Untamed told from Fox’s point of view. Being controlled by the Mage, the newly marked seventeen turned on the original members of the Ferals.

Fox avoids being controlled because his animal’s soul is an original member of the eight. He’s eager to prove himself useful, and when Kara is taken by one of the new Ferals, he just may have his chance.

Never one to have a problem getting women, Fox is attracted to Melisande the moment he sees her. Melisande, known as a cold-hearted bitch with an extreme hatred for all shape-shifters, would rather keep as much distance between herself and Fox as possible. At least that’s what she tries to convince herself, because she too feels there is something between them. When they are paired together in the search for Kara, they both have to reconsider what they thought they wanted for their lives.

A Love Untamed felt more like Melisande’s book than Fox’s. I think it’s the fact that she started as a secondary character with this mysterious hatred surrounding her and now we finally get answers. Her tragic past including betrayal, abuse, and torture changed her physically as well as emotionally. She’s become a fierce warrior and prefers that life to any feelings she may have for Fox. Melisande shows just enough vulnerability to make me see her in a new light, but still retains enough fight that there’s no mistaking, if threatened, she would take out anyone who gave her trouble.

Fox has never thought he was the type who would want a mate. He was never interested in the kind of bond that opens you up to all sorts of vulnerability. After meeting Melisande he’s more open to the possibility than she is, and he’s sure to give her enough patience for her to deal with everything. I think the best way to describe Fox would be that he’s just a genuinely good guy. Being first introduced in Ecstasy Untamed, and now getting his own book, there hasn’t been the subtle build up of characterization that the other Ferals got. Regardless, I like how he’s pretty uncomplicated for the most part.

I was surprised at how light on the sex A Love Untamed was. I think it fit with the characters though. The tragic happenings in Melisande’s past caused her to lose all desire for any man. I think it would have felt very hokey if she was just okay being with a man even though she’s still very strongly affected by her past.

One of the only things I wasn’t sure about in this book was a separate story thread featuring two newly marked Ferals who break away from the main group on their own path to redemption. I’m not sure of the grand plan Pamela Palmer has in store for these characters.

Overall, I liked the choices Palmer made with the characters in A Love Untamed. I think it’s difficult to change an opinion of a character, like Melisande, but she did a great job turning her around. The Mage really stepped things up when they kidnapped Kara, but there is a sense of things winding down. I can’t wait to see what is thrown at us in the final book Wulfe Untamed.
